Someone had mentioned this place as having a dog friendly patio, so we stopped here for lunch after a hike at Lost Creek Falls. The outdoor patio has a (distant) view of Lake Superior. While the patio is dog-friendly, you have to go inside to the bar to order your drinks and food and dogs aren't allowed in there. So, if you're traveling solo with your dog, be aware of this. I just left the car locked and running while I went in to order, put my placard down on a table outside, then went and grabbed the pup from the car. The Caesar Salad with chicken was lovely and had nice, crisp greens - not just the light colored watery lettuce, this had the medium and dark green goodness too. Still a little bland tasting, but it is a nice size and I ate the whole thing. The chicken on top of it was warm and freshly cooked, and absolutely delicious. I shared a piece of chicken and some lettuce with my pup and he likewise approved. It was a warm sunny day, so I ordered a Kentucky Mule to go along with my salad. Staff was a little busy with tables inside (lots of children at one table) so they forgot about my drink sitting on the bar. It came out just after my salad, so I just decided to make it my dessert instead of my appetizer :) Friendly staff and good food. We will drive to Herbster just to eat at The Cranberry again. I will dreaming about the maple sriracha chicken sandwich and rosemary garlic fries. I wish I could have tried everything on the menu. Our server was so helpful and pleasant. They also have a full bar which is great. We opted for one of our favorite beers, Lake Superior Pale Ale from Earth Rider Brewing. read more

We visited here after being close by (10 or so minutes) after hiking the trails above the sea caves. We were seated quickly for a late lunch. Staff were professional and you could tell were old hands and knew what was what. I ordered the hot mess (their version of poutine but without cheese curds and with shredded roast beef) which was amazing, SO good. I had a special - sliders on pretzel buns, and while the beans and coleslaw were delicious, the sliders were just okay. Others in the group loved the pot pie, and my kiddo devoured the burger. We stopped here for dinner on a Saturday evening and were really impressed. The restaurant is cozy, the staff very friendly, and the food was top notch. We ordered the Coconut Curry, the Highway 13 BLT, and the Maple Siracha Chicken Sandwich. Everything was very good and the chicken sandwich was one of the best I have ever eaten. The owner Lacey is very creative in making different special meals each week that are fabulous. She is also a great person and generous to the community. Her menu is terrific too with special chicken on Saturday nights. Her restaurant is one of the best on the South Shore. You will enjoy going there. Loved the atmosphere, and our food was absolutely delicious! The service was excellent despite the fact that they were packed for the Friday night fish fry. Get the Chicken Marsala - three of our party ordered it and each of them raved. Three of us got the Pot Pie and all of us were disappointed. I ordered the Chicken Pot Pie on the recommendation of friends. It is not like the pictures others posted. This was a broth soup with sliced carrots and two pieces of chicken. The top was covered with a pastry that they'd pushed the center down into the broth, leaving a hole. Very attractive presentation, but that part of the crust in the broth didn't cook, so it was raw and disgusting. Otherwise the dough was delightfully golden brown, slightly sweet, and tasty. However, if I'd wanted a soup, I would have ordered one. Very disappointed. And, after waiting about an hour and a half after being seated (with drinks - except for me since I had ordered water and noone brought it even after I had asked twice), we had to ask to place our orders. read more

We love The Cranberry so much, we come up there 1-2 times week we stay at our cabin up in Herbster. The customer service is amazing, the people there are super nice and while there are a couple loud drunk people that is typical of anywhere that has a bar. The food there is also amazing, they have an amazing chicken pot pie which is perfect for a cooler day but if you decide to go there on a Saturday there is a delicious fried chicken dinner. There is not a long wait time so you can sit down and order a beer. Just an amazing place! I think the Cranberry is a must stop if you are in town. This is one of the best restaurants I've been to in a long time. The view is beautiful, and the dining room is kitschy and rustic and fun, all at the same time. The service was amazing, and the food was great. The lady who seemed to be cooking, serving and running things single handedly was friendly and fun. I ordered the Spotted Cow beer battered cheese curds, and the wild rice and chicken soup. The cheese was fried perfectly; it was crispy and so good, and the soup was great too. One of the Saturday night specials is their pickle brined chicken-so we had to try it. It was very good (not so much pickle but salt brine, so more like a broasted chicken). I had the Chicken Pot Pie-also very good with a nice flaky crust on top. The patio is now open so you can overlook the Cranberry River as it heads into Lake Superior. I love this place. The patio is really beautiful when the weather allows - amazing views of the lake especially at sunset. The chicken pot pie is one of the best things I've ever had. I would eat it every day if I could. The Brussels sprouts are also delicious. They do great with gluten free orders, including for celiac. They were running a spicy burrata special when I went last, which was mind blowing. Creative, tasty food and new specials all the time, friendly staff, beautiful spot. My only minor complaint is the air quality inside - don't wear your nice coat because you'll smell like the fryer all winter. read more
