The best part about this place is the gorgeous patio area in back with great views of Lake Superior and a tiny little beach where the kids can play while you can eat your food. Service was meh. Maybe it was because two of the people in our party had just run half-marathons and we were all starving, but we were blown away by the beach club. We sat at the bar and our bartender was a blast, sitting at the bar also means you don't have to wait in line to order at the food window. The food was overall great. There for 15 minutes, told we would have to move - owners were coming and would need our table and some others - that "they always did this". We came to the Beach Club for some food after wandering around the island. We were recommended Beach Club by multiple people, & they were so right! We sat at the bar & were served by a fantastic bartender, who took excellent care of us. I ordered a Bloody Maria with a smoky, sweet tequila recommended by some friends; it was SO good! I love this as a replacement for a Bloody Mary. My friends & I all split a basket of fries, which were so crispy & tasty. I also got their Whitefish Chowder, which was incredible. We were looking for lunch on Madeline island. We choose here because it was right on Superior and they had a simple American food menu. It was seat yourself. The restaurant had a ton of seating and we even got a spot outside on the water side. They also had a pool table inside if you wanted to play! It was also serve yourself here. You go up to the counter, order food, and they give you a number. The drinks you order at the bar separately. The food was out super fast. The fish fry was delicious! It was breaded and crispy on the outside, with a soft, flaky white fish on the inside. The tarter sauce complimented it well. It said their fries were "famous" so we tried those but weren't impressed. They were just your basic fries that probably shouldn't be labeled famous. The prices were fair and on the cheap side. I was a bit reluctant to try this place after reading the bad reviews, which weren't even addressed by the owner or manager (always a HUGE red flag). But let's face it, there aren't a whole lot of options on the island, especially after 6pm. I'm happy to report they got a solid 3.5 stars from us. The servers were all friendly, the food came out lightening fast, and the fish fry (Lake Superior whitefish, natch) was actually a SUPER good deal for a whole lot of food (we honestly could have split one plate). Fish was fried a bit too hard, but there was a lot of it. Fries were passable. Slaw was basic but good. Beer selection was decent. But the reason to go here, the best thing about this place, is the outside deck right on the lake and the accompanying people & boat watching. read more

Always a good island go-to, especially with the location. They're known for their whitefish tacos, but the burgers are also good. Decent curds and really everything I've ever had there is decent, solid. The real star here is the breaded mushrooms. I've never had any like them. I don't usually order these at a restaurant because they're the same, breaded crap that expels boiling hot water into your mouth upon first bite. These are not that. I'm not sure if they are homemade, but they seem like it. Smaller pieces of mushrooms with very light breading. We make a point to come for mushrooms at least once during every island trip. read more

You order separately at the full bar for drinks. We had a lager and a stout. Both of us had seafood chowder with bread and split a summer salad with chicken, onions and blueberries. I wish I could provide a complete review for this place, but rude staff prevented us from even ordering. We entered the establishment around 2:35 and noticed the place was pretty full. We saw the line to order and went to get in line and a lady with a sign that said "kitchen is closed" was standing at the end of the line. I wanted to ask her if we could get in line because a sign on a chalkboard said "kitchen closes from 3-4 pm" but she was on the phone and completely ignored me for about 5 minutes. She turned away from me repeatedly as I tried to get her attention. Finally, another employee came to take her place and I looked at him and was like "hey man can we get in this line?" And he just pointed at the sign and said "this sign says the kitchen is closed, so, no." Meanwhile, my husband had gone to use the bathroom and told me it was disgusting. There were 10-15 flies around the toilet, a mess on the floor, and the TP dispenser was broken so it was hard to use. No soap in the dispenser either. All they needed to do is treat us like human beings, apologize for the kitchen being closed and suggest coming back at 4pm. It took almost 10 minutes for someone to even grunt at us. We know there's a staff shortage, but there shouldn't be a basic human decency shortage. read more

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION I like here, because you can walk a few feet from the deck and wiggle your toes in Lake Superior. The deck does have limited seating, but the view and vibe are awesome. You can watch the ferries come and go too. If you sit at the bar inside facing the windows, you almost feel like you are outside. After ordering at the window, you go find a seat. Maybe they don't have table service because most of the servers/bartenders (summer time) are from Eastern Europe.I find that sooooo charming! The gal bartender has been coming over many years, and brings kids with her. I love having a server from a different country, their accents are too cute. However, my experience with Euros is that their English is impeccable, with a fabulous vocabulary, but comprehension not so good. You may get what you want, and you may not. That's OK, handsome Ukrainian boy, I will eat whatever YOU put in front of me. And like it. I had never knowingly had Lake Superior Whitefish, so I tried it. Ick. This place had me confused from the start. What was it? You order over there, they bring out the food to you. Oh, it's similar to a Culvers! But wait, I need to order the drinks at the packed bar...okay, now that I have that straight, I can try the food. Fish seems the obvious choice, but I had a hankering for nachos. And that means it's time for the nacho breakdown! Chips: Big plate of tortilla chips. Nothing special about the chips. They did they're job as little plates with the occasional soggy one. Real Cheese: More like cheese sauce, this was my least favorite part of the nachos and hard to avoid. Fresh toppings: Yes, they had these right. A little cilantro, some tomato chunks, black beans and jalapenos on it. All made it the best part of the nachos. Sides: Sour cream on the side where it should be. The neon sign said "Fresh Fish," which seemed like a wonderful idea; we had biked about 14 miles, 6 of them loaded down with camping gear, and all of them on nothing but a few beef sticks eaten hours earlier. Stopped here back in February, where it seemed most of the island's hardcore inhabitants were brunching, but we were just there to use the ATM. At the counter, we saw the sign for the Friday fish fry, which came in trout or whitefish. Ordered one of each plus a fish chowder and a couple of hard ciders. Sat outside with a number and the ciders in hand, and watched the seemingly endless lake. Calm day. The ferry running in and out. Another couple a few tables over amusing themselves by feeding ducks. Food came out relatively quick. The whitefish was good, but I liked the trout better. The fish were definitely fresh and cooked perfectly, with a thin crumb batter. The fries tasted like your standard Sysco fries, good enough. The fish chowder was great, milky but not too creamy with large chunks of fish in it. We ate quickly and then sat around in a sated daze for a while. There is no greater way to pass the time watching Lake Superior and its going ons. Thumbs up from me. read more

This establishment has a great ambiance, nice bar area, flat screen TV for sporting events, and the service is great as well. The menu items are prepared with care and all are priced right.
