Best bar on the Island. Food is good too!
    Jef T.

Extremely disappointed. Went at 6:30 to watch Packer game. Got table, ordered drinks, ordered food. There for 15 minutes, told we would have to move - owners were coming and would need our table and some others - that "they always did this". I pointed out that would have been better to know before we sat down. There were not any other seats that had view of game. Completely unacceptable. Waitress just shrugged.

As far as open restaurants on the island go, this was OK. It's a bar, with bar food. It was fine for what it was. We just wanted a few appetizers and drinks and this was exactly what it was. It just was so interesting that they charge you a kitchen fee on your receipt when you go to the counter & order and they had a tip jar and then you go to the bar to order your drink and there you tip them as well.

We came to the Beach Club for some food after wandering around the island. We were recommended Beach Club by multiple people, & they were so right! We sat at the bar & were served by a fantastic bartender, who took excellent care of us. I ordered a Bloody Maria with a smoky, sweet tequila recommended by some friends; it was SO good! I love this as a replacement for a Bloody Mary. My friends & I all split a basket of fries, which were so crispy & tasty. I also got their Whitefish Chowder, which was incredible. It was so buttery, with chunks of fish (but wasn't fishy). I got a bowl & could've eaten a whole pot of it. Absolutely stop in here when you're on Madeline Island!

We rolled in after biking to the state park and back around 1:00 on a Sunday afternoon. No line to order, friendly staff, and our BLT lunch specials came out pretty quick . We sat out back and enjoyed our great food with a view. The BLT was delicious, the fries were perfectly cooked, and the Cole slaw was just right!

The food was your typical bar food, bartender wasn't any to friendly, maybe he was having a bad day. You do have to order your food at a window, he was a friendly gentleman. They delivered the food in a timely fashion and it was good. I did like the atmosphere of the place. It's a nice place to socialize and enjoy a few drinks with some good bar food.

Cassandra takes on the north ! Yall! Took the hubby with me to the north where I have some distant relatives - after TWO DAYS - we needed quite the break from them - love em tho - hope they don't find this post Anyways , the hubby and I decided to go to this cute little island town and have some dinner it was SO YUMMY I can only hope to go back one day!!! We had the Friday fish special and some gumbo - that gumbo changed the entire trajectory of my life yall . I NEVER knew I was a fan of gumbo until this day. Some angel named Mickey ,I believe, blessed the Madelaine island with that fantastic creation. SO GOOD - and the food came out fast all the workers were so kind

We were looking for lunch on Madeline island. We choose here because it was right on Superior and they had a simple American food menu. It was seat yourself. The restaurant had a ton of seating and we even got a spot outside on the water side. They also had a pool table inside if you wanted to play! It was also serve yourself here. You go up to the counter, order food, and they give you a number. The drinks you order at the bar separately. The food was out super fast. The fish fry was delicious! It was breaded and crispy on the outside, with a soft, flaky white fish on the inside. The tarter sauce complimented it well. It said their fries were "famous" so we tried those but weren't impressed. They were just your basic fries that probably shouldn't be labeled famous. The prices were fair and on the cheap side. An overall nice place for lunch with great views of the lake.

A nice atmosphere with a beautiful view of the water. Friendly service though a little slow to order but I guess when you're on island time that's okay! We ended up getting beers and a couple of appetizers, and all of us were surprised with how much we loved the fried mushrooms. We figured they'd be good but they were exceptional! I would like to try the place again though I do wish there were some more vegetarian friendly dishes.

I was a bit reluctant to try this place after reading the bad reviews, which weren't even addressed by the owner or manager (always a HUGE red flag). But let's face it, there aren't a whole lot of options on the island, especially after 6pm. I'm happy to report they got a solid 3.5 stars from us. The servers were all friendly, the food came out lightening fast, and the fish fry (Lake Superior whitefish, natch) was actually a SUPER good deal for a whole lot of food (we honestly could have split one plate). Fish was fried a bit too hard, but there was a lot of it. Fries were passable. Slaw was basic but good. Beer selection was decent. But the reason to go here, the best thing about this place, is the outside deck right on the lake and the accompanying people & boat watching.

Pros: Easy to get to from the ferry. Plenty of seating, both indoor & outdoor. Food & alcohol is served here. The fish was cooked very well! Cons: Chaotic ordering system. Have to wait in a line to order from the counter. No good place for a queue to form, so it wraps between tables. In order to order a drink, need to yell past people sitting at the bar to the bartenders. No servers, just incredibly young bus boys.

    These are the best shrooms!

Always a good island go-to, especially with the location. They're known for their whitefish tacos, but the burgers are also good. Decent curds and really everything I've ever had there is decent, solid. The real star here is the breaded mushrooms. I've never had any like them. I don't usually order these at a restaurant because they're the same, breaded crap that expels boiling hot water into your mouth upon first bite. These are not that. I'm not sure if they are homemade, but they seem like it. Smaller pieces of mushrooms with very light breading. We make a point to come for mushrooms at least once during every island trip.

Absolutely the rudest service we have ever had anywhere and we are literally from Milwaukee. There was hair in our food, our wait staff was beyond rude, and the food was not even REMOTELY worth it. Avoid at ALLLLLL costs!!!! It deserves to be shut down. In case you're like "oh this person is a Karen" this is the only negative review I've ever written in my life, this place was THAT BAD!

I came here for a fish fry just after Memorial Day and the outdoor seating weather was perfect for my pup. The patio overlooks Lake Superior, with a few buildings across the street blocking a bit of the view. It's a nice downtown spot so there are plenty of people out and about walking by the patio. I typically prefer a traditional Old Fashioned, but when in super northern Wisconsin, do as they do. I got a Wisconsin Old Fashioned and it was great. I even ordered a second one! The veggie dumpling soup was beyond my expectations -- I would have just eaten a bunch of bowls of that all night if I hadn't been set on fish fry. I got the Lake Superior Whitefish fry (Lake Superior was right across the street, how could I not?), which was just ok. The sides were great - french fries and green beans are a Wisconsin match made in heaven. The fish was alright, a bit fishier than I'm used to but that just might be a Lake Superior whitefish thing? Still, I found about 6 bones in the fish fry and I've never had that issue at a restaurant fish fry before. I usually give a few bites to my dog but was nervous on this one. So, overall a great experience and a fun place to stop by. I'd recommend checking them out.

Two words: Whitefish livers…read more Where have these been all of my life? Granted, I'm a liver eater. Chopped chicken liver is one of my all time favorite things. Duck liver, goose liver, calves liver, cod liver, monkfish liver, sign me up. But somehow whitefish livers have evaded me. These were delicious! I also had what might have been the most midwestern meal ever. Cheese curds with ranch dressing, a plate of whitefish livers, and a sweet brandy old fashioned to wash it all down. On the specialty drinks menu I couldn't resist the Berens Brandy Old Fashioned. I mean, I have been a fan of Charlie Berens for a few years but I didn't realize he had his own brandy for the definitive cocktail of Wisconsin. It was delicious, but it also turned out to be $12. For my second round I just got a regular brandy old fashioned which was also quite good, but weighed in at five bucks. Let the buyer beware. Which is ultimately why Pier Plaza fell short of the fifth star. The prices feel a bit high for what it is. Granted, it's right by the water, in a remote part of the state, and thrives on tourists. And that's fine. I have no regrets and would absolutely recommend folks who might be passing through to stop in for a very Wisconsin meal. Portions are large, so plan accordingly.
