I came here based on a suggestion for fish fry. The service was prompt and friendly, they were kind to my dog, and the Old Fashioneds were pretty yummy. I came here for a fish fry just after Memorial Day and the outdoor seating weather was perfect for my pup. The patio overlooks Lake Superior, with a few buildings across the street blocking a bit of the view. It's a nice downtown spot so there are plenty of people out and about walking by the patio. I typically prefer a traditional Old Fashioned, but when in super northern Wisconsin, do as they do. I got a Wisconsin Old Fashioned and it was great. I even ordered a second one! The veggie dumpling soup was beyond my expectations -- I would have just eaten a bunch of bowls of that all night if I hadn't been set on fish fry. I got the Lake Superior Whitefish fry (Lake Superior was right across the street, how could I not?), which was just ok. The sides were great - french fries and green beans are a Wisconsin match made in heaven. The fish was alright, a bit fishier than I'm used to but that just might be a Lake Superior whitefish thing? Still, I found about 6 bones in the fish fry and I've never had that issue at a restaurant fish fry before. I usually give a few bites to my dog but was nervous on this one. We stopped by for a quick lunch on our first day in Bayfield and we're so glad we did! First and foremost, the service was absolutely incredible. I wish I remembered the name of our server because she was so attentive while practically running the front of house by herself, I wish I could give her a specific shout out. The restaurant itself is a classic small town tavern with the dark wood bar, comfy booths, and a gorgeous painted tin ceiling. The food was also pretty good - the cheese curds are a MUST get. The rest of the food was slightly too salty and the fish was just a tad dry but the tartar sauce and coleslaw were both to die for and the fries were fantastic. The Pickled Herring is a really cute spot, it fits the overall age & vibe of Bayfield. It's got huge picture windows facing the lake, so you can watch the boats come & go. Our server was fantastic; she was super attentive & helpful. Our food came out pretty quickly after we ordered, which was really nice. I got a THC cocktail (which they make with Nowadays spirits + mixers) & it was so tasty! We started with cheese curds, which were served with (I think?) house made ranch. Visited the Pickled Herring for a late lunch/early dinner before an Apostle Islands cruise, since it was right across the street from the docks and rated pretty well. It's definitely a fun place to relax and have a drink or a full meal. I ordered the Hugo Spritz and it was exactly what I was looking for in a cocktail....light and crisp. I ordered the fish sandwich so I could try the local Lake Superior white fish. Blackened was a good choice for how it was cooked. Flaky and juicy...delicious. ibopted for the sweet potato wedges as a side, and wow, were they good and a generous serving. I think I ate the equivalent of two medium sweet potatoes in one sitting...lol. everything tasted great and the staff were very friendly. Stopped by here on a recent trip to the area and so enjoyed my experience. Stopped by with a party of 5 for lunch. It was summer tourist season, so we did have to wait a short while (our anticipated wait was 20-30 minutes but we only waited 5-10 in reality). We got our table and ordered drinks. I went for the bbq old fashioned, which was a smoky version of a Wisconsin old fashioned. If you like smokey cocktails, this one's for you. For my main, I got the seasonal salad with ahi added. The ahi was perfectly seared with plenty of pink. The salad was a bed of greens, pesto, burrata, strawberries, and a lovely drizzle of balsamic reduction. For a little crunch, there was toasted pita on the side. It was flavorful and really the best meal of my week in the area. The service was quick and efficient (though not overly friendly). We came up for Applefest and tried one of their Apple brats. One of the worst things I've ever tasted. One bite and throw it away.

The food was delicious and the view from the deck was even better! While visiting Bayfield we decided to have a late lunch. The two of us shared the Northern Cuban sandwich and an order of their awesome homemade chips. As we enjoyed lunch, we had a great vantage point to watch the ferry and other boats. If you're in Bayfield and want to experience a tasty Lake Superior fish fry - you should stop here! The fish and french fries were fried to perfection. The coleslaw was tangy and a great addition to the meal. We also had cocktails while dining here, and they served the best Moscow Mule I have ever had! Husband is still not a fan of Lake Superior white fish but he keeps trying. The mango salsa is pretty but the mangoes were hard chunks. His meal was a 2 star, mine was a 5 star. Went there, 9/22. Asked for an outdoor table. Was told all are filled. Picked 1 of 2 tables. We placed our order. Noticed around us, most people had water to drink not anything else. Wanted to still eat outside, asked waiter, said we had to ask another. She came over, said we ordered, could not move. WOULDNT even work with us on this! Food came, 2 orders of Lake Whitefish, one blackened, one broiled. The other person AND I tried and both were fishy tasting, other person had burger, but smelled the fishy smell at the table. This place is an absolute banger! I went here on a Friday, and my Irish self had to of course try their brilliant Fish Fry. I got the sides of sweet potato fries, mixed veggies and the Garlic Mashed potatoes. I also tried the Pickled Herring drink that has the little Swedish Fish in it, and it is definitely worth the investment. My lady friend had the grilled cheese with some French fries, and was very very happy, and that is a true factor that matters a lot to me. They unfortunately do not take coupons for all you savers out there. I also had a very great waitress who I asked to get me her favorite beer that was on tap. She got me some Alaskan beer that I do not remember the name of but it definitely hit me really good in the heart strings. I look forward to coming back here again when I get the chance. read more

Great place for a whitefish sandwich. Freshly caught whitefish from Lake Superior on a brioche bun. The fish is lightly breaded. I got a side of fruit but there were other options like fries or homemade chips. The tarter sauce comes on the side so you can add what you like. The food tasted delicious and I enjoyed the setting which overlooks Lake Superior. There is an outdoor balcony with tables also. The wait staff was very pleasant. I was really grumpy to see them not only closed on Monday but with operating hours contrary to what I had seen online. BUT what I was really bummed about was not being able to try out a restaurant whose reviews had me craving whitefish. Needless to say, I was excited to not only have a chance to grab lunch here a few days later but to have a seat outside as well. We ordered their white sangria and pickled herring drink. They were huge and came in big beer mugs! Absolutely refreshing on a nice summer day. We had the blackened whitefish tacos and fish po' boy. The tacos were so delicious!! Hands down the best fish tacos I've ever had. The mango salsa and seasoning for the fish was perfect together. I wish I could have the recipe for that salsa. The hubs liked the po'boy. The fish had nice breading and had the expected mildness of whitefish. The overall sandwich was tasty and probably the best fish sandwich we've had all week. We visited after shoulder season for a football game, drinks and a meal at the bar. The staff is amazing. Welcoming, warm, happy to have you even if they're worn down from a long rebound season. The food is great especially the more unique options. Also they have Allagash white beer on tap?! (From Maine - it's great). Wow! Okay, the wait for an outside table was grossly under-estimated, while we were told 30-40 minutes, we actually waited over an hour. Besides this little delay everything else was excellent! The berry infused old fashioned was A-amazingly delicious! The strawberry mule, was good but in comparison, the old fashioned is definitely the way to go. They have a kids menu if you're coming with kids but beware if your kids are able to see/read the "adult" menu, they'll want to order off of it. My oldest had the all beef hamburger. She claimed it was the best she'd ever had and devoured it before I was even able to put pepper on my salad. I had the grilled shrimp salad to go with a lighter meal, but it was so much salad I think it could've easily been shared with another person. They had 3 different vinaigrette's. I had the pear vine grey tea which was a tad bit too sweet but still yummy! My husband had the white fish special which he said was just okay. According to him, the sides were worth the meal. Grilled vegetables and garlic mashed. My middle child had the adult Alfredo with chicken. She too was "in love" with her meal. The portion was really too much for an 11 year old and she had half packed to take home. My youngest ordered the NaN-steak appetizer. It comes out looking like a fancy pizza. While this too was too much for a child to eat in one sitting, we weren't able to take any home because as a family we ate what was left on her plate. The desserts looked amazing and I wish we would've been able to sample some, but we were all too full to stuff any more food into our bellies. Overall, a great stop with a beautiful view. A GREAT PLACE TO STOP AT....... After going on one of the Apostle Island boat tours, I stopped in here to check it out. B I N G O.! Cute name, cute location, cute everything, typical for a resort. Quirky too. So I brought friends two more times, and always a delightful experience. Specifically, their calamari has tentacles, not just Os. I had to slam a drink first, but I managed to gag down tentacles, and they weren't bad. Maybe that's how Andrew Z does it. Another time, as off duty seasonal Girl Scouts, we ordered a drink called " Dirty Girl Scout". Tee Hee. I couldn't remember exactly what went in it, but the bartenders bible actually had the recipe ! We had a minty green drink that tasted exactly like a Thin Mint, but with a vodka punch. Yum Yum Yum. Besides that, all the food ever ordered here was above average. Staff was always attentive, probably locals who can only make good money during the tourist season, so they milk it. Definitely stop here if you are visiting Bayfield. Sure there are other places to get a drink or some food, but this place has some sort of "pull". Maybe it is haunted ( it is old)... and the ghosts drag you in. Works for me. We took a 3hr tour on the lake, got off the boat, and we were starving. This place was so close we just had to walk in. The staff were all very helpful, polite, and friendly. Food: Fish & chips, the piggies in a blanket (i think that's what it was called, and whitefish tacos w sweet potatoes wedges) My hubby looooved his pork sandwich and homemade chips. However, i ordered for the kiddos the fish and chips because there was no fish dish on the kids menu. Strange since it's a fish themed restaurant and you have a lake on your front door... also, on the entire lunch menu, there were only 3 fish options: fish&chips, po' boy and blackened fish taco... they need more fish on that menu. I had the tacos. I'm not sure why... but the fish (taco) had a different taste. I never had that taste before... i eat a lot of fresh fish so i was really confused. The kids fish tasted the same and they didn't eat theirs. I drenched mine in tarter sauce and ate it like that. Let's hope our next time here will be tastier. read more

We ate here two nights in a row. Friday we had the fish fry, which was amazing! Well worth the wait. Since they are well known for the fish fry, it comes recommended! Our hamburger 's were dry and over cooked. Saturday night, we ate the steak special and the pork ribeye, we were so impressed. The mash potatoes were delicious! Salads comes with olives, just a heads up. Also recommend the white fish lives. We tried under a recommendation and was impressed. Something new to try. Staff was friendly both nights.
