Bbq old fashioned (on the front)
    Ophelia M.

Stopped by here on a recent trip to the area and so enjoyed my experience. Stopped by with a party of 5 for lunch. It was summer tourist season, so we did have to wait a short while (our anticipated wait was 20-30 minutes but we only waited 5-10 in reality). We got our table and ordered drinks. I went for the bbq old fashioned, which was a smoky version of a Wisconsin old fashioned. If you like smokey cocktails, this one's for you. For my main, I got the seasonal salad with ahi added. The ahi was perfectly seared with plenty of pink. The salad was a bed of greens, pesto, burrata, strawberries, and a lovely drizzle of balsamic reduction. For a little crunch, there was toasted pita on the side. It was flavorful and really the best meal of my week in the area. The service was quick and efficient (though not overly friendly). Get to it!

Visited the Pickled Herring for a late lunch/early dinner before an Apostle Islands cruise, since it was right across the street from the docks and rated pretty well. It's definitely a fun place to relax and have a drink or a full meal. I ordered the Hugo Spritz and it was exactly what I was looking for in a cocktail....light and crisp. I ordered the fish sandwich so I could try the local Lake Superior white fish. Blackened was a good choice for how it was cooked. Flaky and juicy...delicious. ibopted for the sweet potato wedges as a side, and wow, were they good and a generous serving. I think I ate the equivalent of two medium sweet potatoes in one sitting...lol. everything tasted great and the staff were very friendly. The dinner seating overlooks Lake Superior, always a plus, and their bar area looks like a fun vibe, too. I would come back. Thanks!

The food was delicious and the view from the deck was even better! While visiting Bayfield we decided to have a late lunch. The two of us shared the Northern Cuban sandwich and an order of their awesome homemade chips. As we enjoyed lunch, we had a great vantage point to watch the ferry and other boats. It was so relaxing!

Fish tacos w/mango salsa and homemade chips

Stopped in for lunch after a tour of the Apostle Islands. It looked small from the outside, but it was actually larger than it looked. It was around 12:30, so they had a good crowd already, but we were seated right away. Ordered the fish tacos w/mango salsa and homemade potato chips. The mango salsa was so fresh and refreshing on a warm day. It worked perfectly on the fish tacos. We thoroughly enjoyed them.

My protein bowl was scrumptious with edamame, black beans, sweet potato, a great dressing, and the right amount of cooked versus crunch. I highly recommend. Husband is still not a fan of Lake Superior white fish but he keeps trying. The mango salsa is pretty but the mangoes were hard chunks. His meal was a 2 star, mine was a 5 star. The waitress handled the service with attention to detail. Impressive skills to keep all deck diners happy. The view is exceptional.

We came up for Applefest and tried one of their Apple brats. One of the worst things I've ever tasted. One bite and throw it away.

Good food, big portions. Had the whitefish platter for lunch, took half of it home. Great location with a nice view of the lake.

Two words: Whitefish livers…read more Where have these been all of my life? Granted, I'm a liver eater. Chopped chicken liver is one of my all time favorite things. Duck liver, goose liver, calves liver, cod liver, monkfish liver, sign me up. But somehow whitefish livers have evaded me. These were delicious! I also had what might have been the most midwestern meal ever. Cheese curds with ranch dressing, a plate of whitefish livers, and a sweet brandy old fashioned to wash it all down. On the specialty drinks menu I couldn't resist the Berens Brandy Old Fashioned. I mean, I have been a fan of Charlie Berens for a few years but I didn't realize he had his own brandy for the definitive cocktail of Wisconsin. It was delicious, but it also turned out to be $12. For my second round I just got a regular brandy old fashioned which was also quite good, but weighed in at five bucks. Let the buyer beware. Which is ultimately why Pier Plaza fell short of the fifth star. The prices feel a bit high for what it is. Granted, it's right by the water, in a remote part of the state, and thrives on tourists. And that's fine. I have no regrets and would absolutely recommend folks who might be passing through to stop in for a very Wisconsin meal. Portions are large, so plan accordingly.

The highlights are definitely: Caesar salad - made old fashioned way you can taste the anchovy Mushroom soup - almost like French onion soup but mushroom and without overwhelming cheese on top. It's so nice and light. Perfect start to a meal seafood ravioli served with salmon - ravioli is definitely the star . The salmon is just some back up dancer. That Ravioli is magic. Umami bomb definitely taste the ocean (in a good way) and the butter and all the good things in life. For desert - the berry cobbler is special of the day and it is just phenomenal. While the patio is dog-friendly, you have to go inside to the bar to order your drinks and food and dogs aren't allowed in there. So, if you're traveling solo with your dog, be aware of this. I just left the car locked and running while I went in to order, put my placard down on a table outside, then went and grabbed the pup from the car. The Caesar Salad with chicken was lovely and had nice, crisp greens - not just the light colored watery lettuce, this had the medium and dark green goodness too. Still a little bland tasting, but it is a nice size and I ate the whole thing. The chicken on top of it was warm and freshly cooked, and absolutely delicious. I shared a piece of chicken and some lettuce with my pup and he likewise approved. It was a warm sunny day, so I ordered a Kentucky Mule to go along with my salad. Staff was a little busy with tables inside (lots of children at one table) so they forgot about my drink sitting on the bar. It came out just after my salad, so I just decided to make it my dessert instead of my appetizer :) Friendly staff and good food. If you're out this way, why not stop in and enjoy for yourself?
