This place is awesome! The atmosphere and vibe are very much of a locals dive bar with very friendly staff and patrons. I walked in on a Friday night for a classic MidWest Fish Fry and heard Fat Seagull was one of the best. Right when I walked in I was met with a fun atmosphere full of people both at tables and the bar laughing and just having fun. There is no host stand or designated waiters so just grab an open seat and someone will be with you shortly. I sat at the bar and was greeted within 30 seconds by one of the bartenders, asked what I would like to drink, and was offered a food menu. I ordered a Spotted Cow and Diet Coke to drink then placed a food order of the Combo Fish Fry Plate. The plate included generous pieces of fish (5 total) of Walleye and Perch, slaw, rye bread/butter, fries, and sauces. WOW was the food delicious, I loved the perch and rye bread...I would be very happy with just that! Beyond the food and drink, the people working and eating/drinking were just so nice and fun. Sitting at the bar, I struck up a conversation with a couple different people and to my surprise was met with great conversation. I was visiting Manitowoc for work and found everyone I talked to at the Fat Seagull was so happy to have visitors and welcomed me with open arm. A last minute trip to Manitowoc around dinner time had me needing to pick up something before heading back home. The Fat Seagull ended up being my choice because of interesting sounding items on the menu. The to go order consisted of a perch sandwich, a double cheeseburger, mozzarella sticks, and taco egg rolls. The mozzarella sticks are the same kind you can get from Arby's or the hot deli area of Walmart. Yes they are mozzarella sticks and can maybe satisfy a craving if needed, but they're not as good as Italian breaded for wonton wrapped mozzarella sticks. I'm not usually a big fan of charbroiled burgers and I could tell the meat was out of a frozen box of patties, but it was a solid tasting burger. It didn't come with a side, which for the price I assumed was the case ($7.50 as of 2/3/2025). That might be the most I would pay for it, but would consider getting it again. Like the burger, the perch sandwich did not come with a side, so $10 for a single butterfly of perch on a roll was close to my wallet's limit, but that was a tasty piece of fish. I don't find myself in Manitowoc often, but if I did I'd be intrigued by their double perch plate on Fridays given the quality of the the perch in this sandwich. The star of the meal was the taco egg rolls. The size of a typical veggie spring roll and in the same crispy wrapper, these egg rolls come in an order of three or six and I wish I had ordered six instead of three. The taco meat had an amazing kick to it and there was enough cheese inside to be noticeable yet not take away from the meat. I didn't end up using the sour cream or nacho cheese they provided because I wanted to savor the flavor of the egg roll itself, but I appreciate having both options to dip them in. read more

For a small town Wisconsin bar you'd think they'd be able to make an old fashioned. Stick to beer as that was the only beverage they got correct. The place got busy after the local football team arrived but otherwise it was a fairly typical bar scene. read more

Wow, hidden gem. Like little corner dive bar with super fast service and cheap solid food. I was greeted by a super kind bartender ready to take my order even though there was a full bar. She was on it with a water and a menu and recommendations. I got the chili and was hoping for a side salad but they don't have one on the menu so I went with these firecracker eggrolls. Wow were those awesome. Creamy, crispy, and the raspberry dipping sauce was outstanding. I'll be back next time I want a sandwhich or something fried. Made our journey to Manitowoc and were very hungry for a Friday night fish dinner ( a must in Wisconsin ). Had a few suggestions from a friend but did a quick yelp search and Fat Seagull came in second. It's been a long time since I was at Fat Sesgull, never remembered having fish but we gave it a try. Not disappointed; seem the person next to me at the bar and asked if his was Walleye; he acknowledged yes! So we both chose the Walleye. Nice portion and decent price. Sfaff was fun and friendly, location was busy and patrons having fun. This location is old building but have a lot of the features of what old building had in detail and built with quality. Seen a perch plate after and it seemed like a nice meal for the price. Decor was very related to the location and its history. Had a couple drinks, old fashioned mixed up very well. We were passing through town and before hitting the nearby maritime museum so we needed lunch. This place was close by and had good reviews. It was early so it was easy to get a table. The waitress was very friendly and the food came out super fast. I got their perch sandwich which was very good (battered vs breaded would have been better). Another in our group got the pizza burger and loved it. An order of the tots with nacho cheese was devoured quickly. The menu is quite an interesting mix of standard tavern fare with items like home made egg rolls. Prices were fair though no sides were included. Overall a good stop. read more

This lil gem has nothing hit a relaxing vibe from the moment you sit down. Nice personable bartenders with knowledgeable information If you have any questions on your food or drinks. For a little kitchen they do a great job making your food as fast as they can, but still prepared amazingly. They have daily food specials throughout the week, and it's worth the visit to try something from every day. I had the seagull mess with firecracker egg rolls, highly recommend both! I follow The Fat Seagull on Facebook. We are new to the area, and this is how I scope out new places and Yelp, of course. I came here with my wife on a Tuesday evening. The place was relatively empty as we had our choice of tables. It picked up after we sat down. The bartender took our drink order. After we got our drinks, i ordered a bowl of chili and an order of onion rings. The chili was excellent. It was loaded with ground beef and beans, The chili had a little kick but would be alright for most palates. The onion rings were somewhat of a disappointment. They were thick cut and lightly coated in a crumbly tempura batter. It crumbled off as I bit into it. They were quite messy. We ordered some appetizers to go. We got 6 taco egg rolls and an order of chili cheese fries. The egg rolls were great. Crispy shells stuffed with a highly seasoned taco filling. That came with nacho cheese and sour cream dipping sauces. The chili cheese fries weren't so good. They were soggy and bland. The chili that was on them wasn't as flavorful as the bowl that I had finished earlier. All in all, this was a mixed review that averages out to a 3. The chili and taco rolls 4 stars. The onion rings, and chili cheese fries 2 stars. 3 star average. read more

We are new to Manitowoc, and we were researching places to eat prior to moving here, The Fat Seagull seems to be a local favorite, and I can see why. This is a quaint bar and grill with a large bar and ample indoor and outdoor seating. We arrived on a Tuesday afternoon just before 5 pm. The bar was moderately busy. We found a table, and a short time later, the bartender came over to get our drink order. There is quite an extensive menu with a huge variety of starters, sandwiches/wraps, burgers, and fish dishes. Upon reviewing the menu, I decided on the shrimp tacos. The tortillas were stuffed with 4 huge Cajun style shrimp topped with lettuce, sour cream, pico de Gallo, and their own rommaudle sauce. I left the pico off mine be a use I cannot stand cilantro. You get two tacos, and let me tell you, I was stuffed after eating both of them. The flavor of the shrimp and sauce was excellent together, and quickly, they were gone! We ordered some apps to go: the chili cheese fries and taco egg rolls. The taco egg roll is crispy and stuffed with taco filling and cheese. It comes with sour cream and cheese sauce. The chili cheese fries were soggy but had good flavor. I will be back to try some more menu items, or maybe just the shrimp tacos because they were just that good! read more

Stopped in for lunch based on the cool name. Local pub with a good menu. I tried the Badger Burger--quarter pound of brat patty and a quarter pound of beef patty. Very delicious. Side order of fries were good, though the cheese sauce was bland. Friendly service throughout the meal. read more

Okay, as an out-of-stater this dive bar has become my new favorite place to stop when I'm visiting my Manitowoc familia. What do I like about it? 1. Such a great deal! All the food is at dive bar prices. Get your onion rings, cheese curds, french fries, and beer for a steal. I recommend the sour cream fries. *chef kiss* 2. The women's bathroom is labeled as "She-gulls" and the men's is "he-gulls". That's hilarious. 3. You are right by the Manitowoc river/lake michigan. After a few drinks go ahead and walk it off. 4. Traditional marine neighborhood bar, no age restrictions giving broad appeal, risking noise though I'm sure that doesn't matter during the live music events, we quickly found a high table and browsed the menu. Service was here and there, quite spotty for not being that busy, was about to order a second round but she slapped the receipts down so guess we saved extra calories and cash instead. I loved their house chili, the right size for a cooler summer evening. My friend did the perch sandwich, strange no fries or similar included with small skinny slabs missing substantial toppings. I suppose the main base here is going for the beverages which makes sense to let the menu play second fiddle. Proved out with a seafood menu only served on Fridays, another querk for living nextdoor to Lake Michigan. If you like thick cut, fresh, homemade onion rings ( with crunchy batter) you won't be disappointed. We honestly drove an hour and a half from home. I'm obsessed. Burgers were good too. Not too big ( 1/4 lb) so perfect because the onion rings are the star and you want a full order. No sharing. Friendly staff. Haven't tried anything else on the menu, but it all looks good. read more

If I could give this bar and grill 10 stars I would! My wife and I were recently visiting Manitowoc while on vacation and we were searching Google for a place to eat when the Fat Seagull popped up in the listings. The name alone sparked my interest and curiosity so we decided the Fat Seagull was where we were going to eat. We are very happy that we did! Environment, service, and food were excellent! We started out with their chicken nachos. Wow!! Not only were they some of the best nachos we have ever had, the serving was larger than any nacho plate we have ever been served. 4-8 people could have made a meal out of these nachos, no exaggeration! We also ordered the Mushroom and Swiss burger, the Hawaiian burrito, and the oh so delicious beer battered onion rings! Everything was very very good! Now, I'm a burger guy and I was very impressed with the burger I ordered! I got the double. My burger was cooked perfectly; it was smothered in fresh sautéed mushrooms and Swiss cheese, and the patties were thick and juicy with great flavor! Price tag for this monster burger... $8. I've been to plenty of places were this burger would have been $13-$15. High five all day long! If you are looking for a very friendly environment. Great drinks and awesome food. After coming here for years for lunch and dinner, this place will always be a staple when I return to Manitowoc over almost all other restaurants. I love the service, the homey atmosphere, and the bangarang great food. Prices are more than reasonable and I sincerely miss being able to eat here more often than I get to. The only complaint I have is I wish this place was bigger so it could accommodate larger groups of friends and have larger restrooms. I hope some day they move to a larger location but I doubt it since they have been here 20+ years. read more

A local, neighborhood bar near the water. Nautical themed, not flashy but clean and just a solid place to eat vibe. You can tell the locals love it - the servers addressed a lot of guests by name when they came in and they had a big party having lunch on one end. Always a good sign. Menu has a good mix of bar food that was all fresh and tasty. My family had an appetizer, wings, a burger, a hot sandwich. Both were great-- we actually asked if the sandwich buns were from a local bakery, they were so fresh and delicious. It was busy but we were able to sit at the bar and food came up pretty quickly. A classic small town bar and grill. While the ambiance is unexceptional, the food is excellent, the service is attentive and friendly, and the drink selection is very good.
