Food is absolutely delicious here! My wife and daughter had club sandwiches with chips and I had the small fried catfish with tater salad and green beans. The cornbread and rolls basket before the meal is so tasteful just like the regular dishes. I enjoyed a cheeseburger about a month ago here and came back today. Here's the menu

We're from out of town but wanted a place with burgers and salads. Mine was great and husband said the burger was best he'd had in a while! Reminds me of a cooler, more genuine Cracker Barrel.

Grilled Catfish plate with loaded mashed potatoes and sautéed mushrooms

Came into town to visit family and was taken on a tour of downtown and came to the Feed Mill for dinner. The Feed Mill does a great job making you feel welcome from the moment you arrive, with warm and local decor. (Gave me lots of Cracker Barrel vibes, but hyper-local) We were immediately sat (amazing) and the menu prices were out of this world. Some of the sides were only $2.50 (omg!!!) and some of the were only $6?! And we're talking good food too. Lots of the reviews said this place had good southern home cooking but I'd argue it's actually EXCEPTIONAL southern home cooking. (For real it felt like I was in someone's granny's house) Some of the best grilled catfish and sautéed mushrooms I've ever had. Great restaurant and wonderful place to dine if in the area.

    Cute decor

The kids can play in an area within parents' eye sight while they enjoy themselves or are waiting to be eated. The food is excellent and service is fast and friendly. I have enjoyed their pork chop and at other times their shrimp and grits. There truly is something for everyone here. I can vouch for both. The pork chop is grilled to a juicy perfection. The shrimp and grits has enough heat to get your heart going and your mouth watering. Prices are very reasonable for what you get. This is one of the local gems that is well worth a visit. I promise you, it won't be your last visit!

My wife and I went tonight because I wanted fish and chips. BTW, we live less than a mile away so it is convenient and was on the way home from where we came from. Saying the fish & chips were awful is a compliment. It looked and tasted like chicken fried steak minus the gravy. It was maybe 1/4 inch thick with tons of dry crust and was as dry as their parking lot. Note, if you order fish and it is served with a steak knife, that is a red flag. The chips were chewy. You have to order at the door and 90 seconds in I am given a tablet asking for the tip for my service which has not happened yet. My wife and I ordered iced tea and set at the bar so we could watch the world cup. Since we were not drinking bar drinks, the bartender ignored us and never refilled our tea. The manager was sitting at the end of the bar with another guy that was wearing a Briteside t-shirt drinking a beer and dropping F-bombs. Keep in mind this is a place that caters to families with elementary and junior high kids and they are dropping F-bombs right and left. Manager did come over and ask how my food was. I said "awful". He asked why and I said what I said above. He said "well the cook cooked it too long". No offer of any kind to fix the situation. No apology. When we left he did apologize for the fish but I stated that I didn't feel he meant it since he pretty much dismissed my complaint by changing the subject to the fly fishing resort referenced on my shirt. Again, no attempt to fix this. I said I won't be back and he said 'okay'. So, I won't be back and I suggest, unless you want to drop off your kids at a whiffle ball court and water slide while you drink beer and don't care about the food or the service, don't go.

A simple little country café was just what I wanted. What we did not know was how popular this place was. Judging by the crowd inside and the pictures of all the famous people on the wall, the Coffee Shop Café appeared to have a very long and interesting history. We were promptly seated and after looking over a delicious menu, my wife went with the Philly Cheese steak omelet and I chose the Coffee Shop Special of two eggs, pancakes and sausage. Service was prompt and friendly but it was obvious that the café caters to a large local customer base that probably eat here several times a week. Our meals were hot and absolutely delicious and the price was ever so reasonable. I am no complaints other than the Coffee Shope Café is not located locally to me. Next time we are traveling up towards McGregor, we will definitely be stopping in this great café for another meal

The menu here is not expansive but it offers a very nice selection of tantalizing dishes. We opted for the fried chicken tacos. Being old timers with small appetites we customarily share an entree, but when I learned that an order consists of two, not the customary three tacos, I ordered a plate for each of us. Big mistake! Hahaha. These tacos are humongous! I'm afraid I totally failed to fulfill my duties as a responsible Yelper and take a photo of the presented plate. Attached is a pic of one, but the pic does not adequately provide for you a sense of the taco's actual size. We each had to work to finish one each. This creation is a work of taco art. A taco masterpiece. The tortilla appears to be house-made. The large pieces of chicken breast, perfectly seasoned and breaded; and crisply fried rest on a bed of some of the tastiest cole slaw ever. The fried chicken is then topped with a couple sauces that sing with the chicken and finished with house made hot honey. This taco is worth the drive to Hico from FTW for lunch. Service was once again very pleasant and attentive. And as I think I said in my previous review, Owners/Chefs Austin and Shannon have done a wonderful job of curating a welcoming, warm and authentic ambiance in this historic building.

So, all main entrees were quite good: ribs and brisket were incredibly tender, catfish was nice and crisp, chicken fell off the bone, and the chicken fried chicken was delicious. We also ordered the steak fingers as an appetizer. They tasted good but should have been crispier. Had the sampler which consisted of fried pickle spears (highly recommend) fried mushrooms (honestly tasted like they came pre-packaged and corn nuggets (also quite good). Sides were what took this review to a 4 star: Mac and cheese (way too dry), coleslaw (have had better) and the green beans ( too mushy- definitely canned beans) were nothing to brag about. Our waitperson, Barbara, was quite entertaining and I must add that she was quite efficient. She's apparently worked for the owner for 22 years (of and on). The owner was at the restaurant and made it a point to ask if we enjoyed our meals. Nice touch. We ended our experience with their desserts, all made by the co-owner.
