This lodge has all the makings to be an amazing experience but fell completely flat with lack of execution, detail, and communication between hosts and guests. My boyfriend and I booked the Forest Guest room (listed as the most luxurious and most expensive room) for our anniversary. Before arrival I emailed the host Sharon to notify her that I have a service animal. No response and I had to reach out to confirm she had received his paperwork. Upon arrival to the lodge , we were greeted into an empty large living space, no fire places going, no one around, just people's luggage packed at the front door. It took me having to text Sharon again that someone finally got to us. When we entered the room it was beautiful, tub, indoor fireplace. However outdoor our "private terrace" area was un shoveled and the small fire pit covered in snow and not cleaned up. Note the day we arrived was sunny and beautiful. As I slipped into the bath, the water in the adjacent shower began to back up and rise and we had to wait for Sharon's husbands to come and draino it. Later that evening we wanted to peak into the shared common space 10+ seat theater to find it locked. I gently knocked and no answer, knocked again, and was greeted by another guest "yeah what's up". His female companion was in nothing by a robe and they soonly left the theater after our encounter which completely turned us away from even being in that room. Later that evening around 10 we used the app system to ask Sharon if we could start a fire outside our room. After multiple calls and texts, she did not answer me until 7am the next morning, even though she lives on the property. Another detail in the morning was our breakfast was missing items requested on our form. Sharon did not acknowledge us in person not greet us goodbye. As someone who has worked in customer service for over 10+ years, I was shocked this is how you treat your guests in your Inn. While scenic and nice, not worth the $600 and made our anniversary a crappy one to remember by.

The stunning Fern Lodge! I cannot wait to go back!

That is exactly what we got. Honestly, I do not think we could have found a better place to stay. Our room was very comfy and clean. The house was recently remodeled and looks nice and cozy. The breakfast served daily was amazing. I Loved the pumpkin spice pancakes that were an October special. We watched some TV in the main living room and seemed just like a home away from home. It was exactly what we needed for our first bnb experience. The owner Dakota was friendly and hospitable. Her dad was also there occasionally during our stay. He had some interesting and funny stories. Everyone made us feel welcomed. Side notes, the house is next to a grave yard. If you are superstitious, then don't stay here. Grave yards make for very quite neighbors The owner has a couple of dogs. They are super sweet and may bark at you, but that's what dogs do.

We arrived and were greeted by Penny who was very accommodating. This is a very pet friendly place and they have a very cute doggie host, Roddy who is such a mush. Rooms are very clean and comfortable. There's a living room with board games. They house is next to a cemetery so the neighbors are very quiet. There was construction on the road while we were there which was quite noisy but hopefully that will be done soon. There's a fire pit on the other side of the house. Breakfast is cooked by Penny's husband and was delicious. There are many options to choose from and all cooked to order. They are very conscious of food allergies. It was a very nice stay and would definitely recommend.

The owner, Preston, and his wife made us feel right at home. Within 10 minutes of check in we were offered fresh fruit and homemade brownies. Our room (Green Room) was decent sized, had AC, an electric fireplace, and a super comfortable bed. Breakfast was served right at the scheduled time and was excellent. Day one was waffles, bacon, and fruit. Our second and last day led us to a nice quiche with sausage and homemade crumb cake...drool. Preston took the time to sit and converse with us while we are and made a real effort to get to know us. We loved hearing some of his stories about the house and about the area. I highly recommend the Lewis house as an alternative to pricier chain hotels in downtown Saratoga and as another option to camping or staying at a motel. You will not be disappointed.

Mr Lewis and his wife were so friendly and made us feel right at home. He cut me fresh pussy willows from the garden to take home. I couldn't have asked for better hospitality. The Lewis House is walking distance to the village of Ballston Spa and about 10 drive to downtown Saratoga Springs and the racetrack. We will def be back for racing season!

First off let me set the record straight- I really don't like Bed and Breakfasts. I've stayed at…read moresome pretty ones- in Ashland Oregon, in Maine. I just don't like the lack of privacy or the set time to eat or the forced conversation. When I'm traveling I prefer to chill. But this B&B has several things that set is apart and make me like it- a very casual atmosphere- a pretty location- a wonderful proprietor and policies that are different than most B&Bs. First off- there is no set time for breakfast. You can wander down when you like. Second- the lady who runs the place has come up with a brilliant plan- she sets a steaming hot pot of coffee outside your door in the morning so that you can drink your coffee in peace (and privately) before venturing down to the main room. So simple but I've never seen another B&B do that. There really isn't much in Salem NY so you'll only stop here if you happen to be in the area. But if you do and you have B&B phobia as I do you can safely book here. I just remembered the name of the lady who runs it- Laura. She's really nice.

I would have been stranded otherwise, biking legs tired for the day. The inn is just what need and want, clean rooms and bathroom, friendly and helpful host (she told me where to bike the next day), beautiful grounds, friendly farm dogs and a tasty breakfast, coffee and tea the next morning at a time of your choosing. Thank you Laura for providing a wonderful retreat from a hard day's ride.
