If you are looking for a success story that delivers and delivers and delivers each time you go back, this is it!! I usually see restaurants fall from Grace after the trend wears out, they go up in smoke and burn out, but this spot, instead of falling by the way side, been frozen and gotten antiquated--stuck in time-- it's improved! That's a huge accomplishment in the restaurant biz!! The prices are high, I'll admit that. But the quality is worth those extra dollars. I've had so many different plates here and each has been treated with finesse. The consistency of the plates also stay high! And the staff?? Brilliant! When I see an owner basking in their own business, that makes me proud too! Favorite local seafood restaurant. Definitely freshest oysters around. Snapper and tostones is the way to go for main course. Often local Blues music in the back room but beware ocasional cover charge. To avoid paying just sit in the middle section and listen while you eat. The other far section is great for catching a game . My only complaint is that black beans and rice are separate menu items and must be paid for individually. I believe your experience here will depend on what you order. They have a lot of options on their menu to choose from, and depending on what you get the food is a hit or miss. The scallops and shrimp pasta would have be good if it wasn't for the shrimps in it, they had absolutely no seasoning on them and were very dry, they were not edible. Crab cakes were another miss, seems like they're deep fried and not like a traditional crab cake, I would not recommend them. The "large shrimps your way" we're delicious we had them scampi style. I also had a side Cesar salad which I really enjoyed . The complimentary fish dip is a great touch. read more

Wow, we finally made it here and it was a fantastic experience. I checked on my Yelp app which places around the area had live music and this one was the first one to pop out, which was perfect because I had it bookmarked. The took us to the "backroom" where they had two people playing live amazing Jazz music. We had dinner and I loved it. Looking for clame we encountered this location. We were pleasantly greeted once we arrived and offered to sit anywhere we wanted. Except the backroom live that was full. Service was good. The fish house is a good seafood restaurant without being pretentious. With a small fresh seafood market that sells to the public at reasonable prices the fish house has a great starting product to serve you fresh fish at their restaurant side. This is new to me... they actually have a sushi chef at the front for a rather large sushi, poke, sashimi menu. Their regular menu is also a large menu that offers everything from fresh oysters and salads to lobster dishes and surf and turf. Service is good and friendly. Where I would recommend improving is the look of the restaurant. It is very dated and would help to spruce it up with a few touches. They have live music several nights a week and the back room offers hi top tables and a more vibrant ambiance. Prices are budget friendly. read more

Tried this restaurant on a Thursday night, and it was packed. First time there, was invited by some friends to celebrate my birthday. There was jazz music in one of the rooms, but the room was full. So we sat in another area of the restaurant. Ambiance was fantastic. Service was great. They bring you this seafood dip they make in-house , with saltine crackers. It was so good that we purchased some to take home. Food was delicious. I had the Shrimp Po Boy sandwich and it was delicious. Shrimp freshly fried, bread was warm and crusty, lettuce tomato and their own sauce which made the sandwich delicious. And it was big too. Two people can eat from it. My wife had the Mahi and it was so delicious that she left the plate clean !!! Our friends had chicken rice combo and that too was plentiful and delicious. Calamari appetizer was OK. I like my calamari a bit thicker. Not expensive. As things are today, prices are average. Overall a gem. Highly recommend this place. The reviews here were so great. I had high expectations. We had a brief wait for our large party. We were then seated in lawn chairs in the main area. Once the server arrived she took our food and drink order at the same time. First item out was my entree of soup. Then came our drinks Then all the entrees followed by hot sushi and then last to arrive was the oyster appetizer. The food (except for Oysters) was tasty. We think those were forgotten in the window. After being on hold for 30 minutes with someone coming on and off the phone telling me to hold for longer (because I wanted to make sure my mother who is a cancer patient got her order correctly and was cook to her liking) I received zero help. I explain to the gentleman I had made an order through Uber eats where I wanted my linguine with shrimp to be cooked with extra-virgin olive oil and light salt. Apparently this was too much of a mission for them as A, neither the chef, nor a server, or a manager could come to the phone... and B, they finally told me "yes sir the scampi shrimp is cooked with a lot of butter and is very fattening" which led me to tell him "please, just cancel my order." If I wouldn't have already known that your scampi was fattening and cooked in a lot of butter, I wouldn't have taken the time to call you to make sure you knew how I wanted you to cook the dish. I called just for that, so that you wouldn't make it the way I know you cooked it. Hospitality in places like this has ironically gone second to the way they are so invested in not helping people. I have lived within walking distance of the Fish House for a long time. Over the years I've tried their food a handful of times. I want to like it evey time but it always seems to disappoint. The environment is casual and has a maritime theme. Inside, it feels like you're in a bar in Key West and not in Olympia Heights. Beginning with the host, the service is always prompt and friendly. On our last visit, we came to try their 50 cent oysters during happy hour. They always start you off with their fish dip and crackers. The fish dip is addictive and tasty. It wouldn't be a bad idea to take some to go as a snack or to serve at a party. Typically, I like my oysters to be freshly shucked and juicy with the taste of ocean water. The oysters this day were dry and seemed like they had been sitting out for a while. We also ordered the Maryland style crab cakes that were pretty standard. The beer battered shrimp came with a flavorful sauce After much deliberation, I only gave 3 stars based on my past experiences with the food here. It is standard but nothing to go out of my way for, even though I live within minutes of here. My biggest problem with this place is the menu. This may have you wondering at this point, why I am giving this restaurant 5 stars if the menu is a problem? I'll tell you! For both a foodie and a pescatarian I am utterly overwhelmed when I come into this place! Put simply, I want to order everything! Now, I have yet to try everything, but I have made my way through a sampling of their delicacies, and everything I've tried has been superb. This is a problem, because I'm a creature of habit. I like finding a favourite dish, and when I find it, I like to order it every time. This is usually never an issue for me because most restaurants only have 1-2 dishes I love, tops. The thing is I've loved everything I've tried at the Fish House, so really I have no choice but to keep ordering new things waiting to be disappointed. It looks like I'll be waiting a long time though as the Fish House has been in business for over two decades, and for good reason! With great live music, warm service, and some of the freshest fish in town, it's no surprise! If you come here (and if you haven't yet, why not?!) definitely try the ceviche. It's the best! And the scallops. Ooh and the grilled mahi...and omg the sushi! I had the best roll tonight (the Fish House roll). It easily rivaled any sushi restaurant out there, and I am insanely picky! This is one of my 'go to' spots in Miami. If we're in the mood for seafood, we come here, if we want to do a simple date night, we come here, we've come here so many times for different reasons! It truly is the best seafood in Miami, especially around the area. We've tried most of the menu and I can honestly say we've liked all of it. They have a nice selection of beer and wine as well, if you're in the mood for a drink. The waiters are always nice, attentive, and the service is quick. Sometimes on the weekend they have live music which is great. The seating indoors is spaced out and there is an additional tent that was set up outside for outdoor dining. After reading the reviews on this place, I had to check it out. I wasn't greeted in the same manner as the couple ahead of me, so my only complaint that I'd have would be the service from the hostess. After I was seated, they gave me a regular menu and a sushi menu. I had no idea that they had a whole sushi menu! They also have a glass case there that displays some of their fresh seafood, including live lobster! I wasn't that hungry and wanted to try a few items, so I stuck with the appetizers. I ordered the fish croquettes, chargrilled oysters and a couple of stone crabs. I was debating on ordering the fish spread, but they gave me a small sample w/ crackers as a starter so I was able to try it without ordering it. The fish spread was okay, but I did find a bone in it....so be careful eating it. After trying it, I wouldn't have ordered it. It wasn't bad, but something I could definitely do without. The medium stone crab are $3 each on Wednesdays and come pre-cracked. However, they do bring additional crackers, dipping sauce and lime for you. The claws were good fresh just like I like em. The fish croquettes were okay. The fish in them were good, but the batter could have had a bit more seasoning. They also came with a mayo-based dipping sauce that I didn't really care for. I ended up dipping them in the sauce that the came with the claws to give it a little more flavor. The oysters were the star of the meal. They came out hot and were delicious. I usually order them any time that I go to restaurants that actually serve them, so I was glad to see them on the menu. We were taken past Elvis signage to a back room where a fake balcony featured New Orleans characters that seemed very out of place. I see now that the restaurant is listed under the category "Jazz and Blues" and also "Cajun/Creole" but while there I didn't pick up on either theme from the menu. And I didn't know that they often have live music. Two of us ordered Maine lobster and one ordered a pasta and shrimp dish. The waitress was quite a saleswoman - maybe a bit too much, but her service was great so it balanced out. After having plastic bibs tied on us, we were served complimentary crackers and a smoked fish dip that was delicious. The menu offered additional sampler refills for only $1. I ordered parsley potatoes and vegetables as my sides. Everything was cooked to perfection and delicious. I was born in Maine, and their Maine lobster was some of the best I've ever had. Very sweet and juicy and meaty. We went to dinner on a Sunday night, but now that I have experienced the Fish House - I can't wait to go back on a night when they have live music. read more

What a great spot! I came in for the Wednesday half off oysters, you just cannot beat 50 cent oysters on the half shell. My boyfriend and I were seated and greeted by our waitress right away. Guests are given a sample of their signature fish dip and crackers, which is quite yummy. We ordered two dozen oysters for appetizers. They were fresh and very clean. Some were more plump than others, but I was very happy. We ordered fried whole snapper and a shrimp po' boy for our entrees to share. The snapper was $21 per pound and you are able to pick a fresh fish from the tank (all definitely larger than 1 pound, our fish came out to be $35). It was lightly seasoned and came out steaming hot. Perfectly cooked, crunchy and flakey. The po' boy was very good. It was served on a french baguette that was nice an chewy. The shrimpy were big and plump and the breading on the shrimp was not too thick. I wish there had been more sauce on the sandwich but that is a quick fix. With our meal we ordered a pitcher of Blue Moon beer ($16) which serves about 4 pints as opposed to 1 pint costing $6 each. The waitress that served us was very attentive and kind. She constantly asked if were ok or needed anything without being too pushy or bothersome. The restaurant is very casual and relaxed. Our meal with tip came out to be $101. It's very easy to spend lots of money here. PS, the yelp offer for $2.50 off an appetizers does not apply to the oyster special (had to try ;) ). read more

The service was much better and the live music topped it all off for a fun night out without breaking the bank. I have been coming to The Fish House off and on with a group of my friends for about five years now. We usually come here to enjoy the wonderful live music that they have. Been wanting to come here for Mardi Gras and never had the opportunity until last night. We had a wonderful time. They had live music outside, in the restaurant part and in what I refer to as the loungy area. Last night was .50 oyster night and they had crawfish! I just had to. The oysters were the best I have had in a while. They were fresh, cold and tasted of the ocean. The crawfish were amazing. They were nice and tender, not rubbery like I have had in some places, and had the right amount of heat to them. I ordered two pounds....and I ate them all! I have come to The Fish House several times, the food is fresh and well elaborated. They main thing is Fish and seafood in general (obviously). But my last visit was to listen to Jazz Live! So this review will be copy/paste to the BackRoom Live since appears to be the same thing with a different name. My first surprised was the emptiness of the place Wednesday night around 8:00pm. Either people of the area doesn't like Jazz or they doesn't know about Live Jazz on Wednesday nights. The musicians are all students, but they all played good and passionated, that's very important for anything to turned out great. The services was nice, we didn't had a real dinner, so it was only a few drinks, bites and music. The list of beers is amazing, I believe they may have over a dozen options from draft to bottles, while the list of wines in below mediocre, this is my only suggestion, to increase the wine options to include at least a descent Cap. and Merlot. I think from 8 until close at mid-night only 6 (max 8) people showed up including us, most of the others was friends of the musicians. I'll definitely be back soon, and I hope people shows up to support good music, otherwise this fantastic Jazz Nights may be gone soon... read more

This is my second visit and first review of the Fish House and I continue to be thrilled about the atmosphere on Wednesday night's Live jazz. Truly a fun place to visit in the middle of the week. When you enter you are greeted by Captain Hook who instantly connects you with your inner seafoodie. I noticed the restaurant is divided into three seating sections: a bar area with TVs with high chair tables, a middle section with booths and table seating for presumed quiet dining, and the far right live band area---that's where we dined! The corridor separating the bar from the middle and live music sections is lined with one or two aquariums containing the catch of the day. This time we began with a bargain priced half dozen oysters at 1$ each, followed up with a cup of their Lobster Bisque and scallops sautéed and served sizzling in a cast iron skillet with onions, green bell pepper and portobello mushrooms. The oysters were tiny but tasty. Blue Points were also available but not for 1$ try 3$. The bisque was rich and creamy with a few bits of lobster. The scallops were juicy and melted in your mouth---very fresh. All-in-all a great seafood experience enhanced with their house cab sav made even more splendid by David Leon on sax performing original music with his fellow band members on trumpet, bass, drum and keyboard. Skip the mid-week work-out once a month and enjoy it here at the Fish House. You won't regret it. read more
