The Fish Keg was a pleasant little find while we were in the area - we stopped by to try them out, and we're glad that we did! They offer breaded and fresh seafood items, baked dinners, salads, and sides, as well as a selection of groceries of condiments and such. We ordered: +breaded fried shrimp - uses large Gulf of Mexico white shrimp, coated in the house's homemade batter - super thick and crunchy breading (think of fried chicken skin!), and great with the cocktail and hot sauce +macaroni salad - has a tang to it +creamy cole slaw - tangy and creamy +potato salad - had lots of hardboiled eggs in it; I enjoyed this +hush puppies The staff here are so welcoming, kind, and willing to offer any assistance - they make great recommendations, too, and let you know what their popular items are. I'd love to try their fish chips and chicken wings the next time! You can place your order in-person and wait (ours was about a few minutes), or call ahead for a carryout. They have a lot adjacent to the building. +fresh breaded seafood +friendly service! +lot adjacent to the building

This place still has terrific food and I would go visit them again. It's been multiple decades that my family and parents have gone to this place. It kinda lost its flow of regular customers. I remember in the 80's it was super crowded and the actual business owners worked 6 days a week. I am not sure if they sold it to another owner, but the food still tastes the same. I am giving this a five star because of the food. I am almost going to give the place a 4-star since the prices have been outrageous. It just seems that the cost of getting fresh food and the preparation time for the food make the cost high. Isn't there a way to slightly lower the quality of the food and get a similar taste while bringing down the price? I assume they thought of this, but you really can over-buy or else it racks up the price. I would stay away from the fries since it's not that great. Get a potato salad or macaroni salad. Anyways, it's a nice place to drop by and pick up some food. There isn't any seating and so you will need to bring a drink if you plan to eat in your car.

Want to time warp back to 1970 - then come to The Fish Keg. For over 50 years, the Hansen family has owned and operated this visually arresting fish valhalla. It is the real deal with locals ordering a pound of fried shrimp, or fish, or anything else that can be deep fried. Want fries, cole slaw, macaroni salad or lemon bars with that? Get some. It also has some limited canned goods and you can get Royal Crown Cola here as well. It took most of my life going past this place to finally visit it. You will not be disappointed.

Great consistency and quality of food. Really love their salads and sauces. Bought a tshirt to show my love of a true Rogers Park Landmark.

There's graffiti on the walls and staff members are dressed extremely casually but the food does not lie. Our server was very attentive the whole night and they had a fire playlist that consisted of a lot of drake and partynextdoor. We started off by ordering the fried calamari and the Asiago garlic wings and omg it was so unbelievably good. The fry was light and crispy and the wings were absolutely delicious. Both were around $11 each. In our seafood boil we both got a half pound of snow crabs and shrimp and some fillers like corn and potatoes. I got around 1 lb altogether and my bf got around 1 1/2 lb and we were both stuffed by the end of the night. Sadly they were out of crawfish but I am excited for crawfish season. Total bill ended up around $160 with tip which is pricey and next time we would order just the wings and cut down on the sausage potatoes and other add ons. Highly recommend this place and will be coming back once I get my money up.

At the end of our meal he turned to me and said "it either used to be way better here or maybe the restaurants in the burbs have just gotten a lot better over time." Our meal last night at Pescadero was just A-OK. Our waiter got the job done, but wasn't overly helpful. Ex: he asked after we put in our entree if we wanted anything else and we decided to throw in some oysters. He then told us he didn't know if he could get them out before our entrees since he already put in the order. Well he asked, didn't he? When we asked if the east or west coast oysters were meatier his response was "they are all the same here." They get a star for having Riesling and it was a pretty tasty one. We had very unexciting shrimp cocktail and oysters for our apps. I would skip both next time, which is sad for a seafood & oyster bar. For my entree I got the scallops special. According to my last review from here i loved the scallops. These scallops (served with risotto) were enjoyable, but would probably order something else next time. And my husband said his salmon was just fine. I love a good seafood & oyster bar so bummed this didn't live up to our past meals here, but it's a nice atmosphere so was still a nice Sat evening out in downtown Wilmette.

Found out it's Italian, so based on positive reviews, my wife and I went there early last night. To start they bring out a warm mini-loaf of crusty bread with a small serving of garlicky olive tapenade -- we knew right away we were gonna enjoy this place. The Bella salad had a huge amount of arugula, pear, figs and goat cheese, enough for two. My wife had a special: spinach stuffed ravioli, with a paper thin dough -- very light and buttery. I had the tasty vermicelli amatriciana -- a huge serving, the leftovers was my lunch today. What's interesting was the waitstaff tag-teamed us: Everyone could do everything from take our orders to bus dishes -- you could see they were pros, had worked together for a long time. The only negative (which I will not deduct a star for): There were two huge TV's playing with their sound off -- this did not add anything, were rather distracting. But the food and service won us over -- we will be back.

I was trying to find a place at least midway between us and discovered Carlos and Carlos on Yelp. Carlos and Carlos is old school from the perspective you actually have to call the restaurant to make a reservation. The space itself is located in what I think is a condo building. The space itself is compact, with tables relatively close together. We ended up sitting at table next to the kitchen door, which for me turned out not to be too bad as we were not sitting on top of other folks. The restaurant and bar were packed as it was a Saturday. Based on the size of the space and number of tables, I would strongly suggest making a reservation if you go there. We started out with fresh bread and one of their specials for the night: flash fried calamari served w/fresh tomatoes, pepperoncini peppers, shaved garlic, black olives, capers & garlic butter. This was a first for me as I have never had calamari served this way and it was great. Definitely a dish I would drive back to get. The bread was wonderful and hot. I could see through the kitchen as fresh bread was being pulled out of either a warmer or oven, not sure. It was served with some sort of olive oil and pesto, I think. It made for a lovely spread on the bread. For dinner I ordered a dish called "Meatballs" and it was just that, a whole lotta meatballs with some spaghetti thrown in as a side...HAHAHA! Not complaining, just staying a fact. The meatballs and pasta were good, but I would say there was a fair amount of garlic in the dish. I had my dish as a leftover and as I was warming it up, The Doctor commented that he could smell the garlic. The Doctor had the Pollo Vesuvio, which also came with pasta. I had a small piece and it was pretty nice. Again there was more meat than pasta, but again we were not complaining. The chicken was nice and tender and had a lovely flavor to it. My GF got the Risotto Al Fungi (Arborio served with wild mushrooms & goat cheese). Prior to sampling her dish, I would have absolutely stated that this was a dish I would not order in a restaurant as I wouldn't have any interest in it. I tried a spoonful of my GF's and was amazed at how good it was! The broth that the risotto was cooked in was chicken and I think beef. That with the goat cheese made this a very nice dish and the second reason I would drive here to do a repeat visit for dinner. Portion sizes were nice as The Doctor and I had plenty to eat and enough for light snack the next day. My GF had no leftovers, she became a member of the clean plate club. For dessert we shared a slice of the chocolate mousse cake, which was really nice. It had a lovely dark flavor to it and was creamy in texture. Service was nice and everyone was friendly. There is plenty of street parking within walking distance as well. While this is a bit of a drive for us to get to since it is outside of the city, I could see coming back here. I think I want to try a serving of that risotto on my own instead of a taste.
