Have had this place twice and each time was really good! They have a few combos that are well worth the price for the amount of seafood boil you receive. My husband and I typically just share the shrimp and crab leg combo and will add in hard boiled eggs and/or sausage. Always tasty! Service is great and attentive. Lots of space within the restaurant. We've come early(ish) on Fridays (about 5/5:30 pm) and by the time we're walking out there are a lot more tables being served. Would definitely give this place a try if you're in the area! read more

It turns out most of our party are seafood aficionados and know where to go in Skokie. Good for us! Crazy enough, this gem can be found in a strip mall. The whole atmosphere is fairly modern with a theme from the sea. Different items from the nautical world adorn the place such as boat oars, hanging fish and even a huge red crab to greet you at the door. Nothing like a fast welcoming process with prompt seating and a quick review of today's specials. The decor may seem a bit hokey, but the food certainly isn't. The appetizers that are a must are the crab cakes, oysters and the calamari. All delicious! They need to work on timing. Too little time between dropping appetizers and the main course. This is my second visit here. The first time was approximately a few weeks after their opening and everything is so much smoother (the first time wasn't actually that bad, honestly). There are appetizers, soups, fried entrees, etc, but you're really here for the seafood boil. You can mix and match (sort of) between half pound and 1 lb options. You pick the flavor profile and the spice level and you get a steaming(!) bag of seafood, potatoes and corn cobs. I'm always going for the TASTY seasoning which is all the seasonings. You can't complain about bland food if you don't hit up the spices! The portions are generous and I'd wager some went above and beyond the portion size. Don't hold me to that! It was a weeknight and I don't know how they account for shell weight! The service is prompt and attentive. I don't think we had any issues where the server couldn't take care of it. The "common" seafood like shrimp, mussels, clams, are priced pretty well. The lobster and crab start to climb up in cost fast. It's a messy affair to eat - they supply the gloves and bibs and hardware - everything to keep it all clean. My husband knew I was homesick after returning from my trip to Belize so he surprised me with dinner at this place tonight. It's where Bonefish Grill used to be and we both liked it better than the Boiler on Dempster. You're given three tools, metal dishes for your meals and a large tray to dump your seafood bag in so you don't have to deal with a mess on the table. We also got a tub for shells, gloves and wipes! Plus there's a napkin dispenser on the table. Much better than other places. We got a pound of snow crab, a pound of whole blue crab (seasonal, yum!) and a 1/2 pound of the headless shrimp in our choice of sauce. We were able to get hot Cajun seasoning on the side. The boils come with corn and potatoes. We also tried the gumbo. It wasn't bad, but it was a little too thin and not nearly as good as my husband makes, so we sent it back. Came at near closing but have to say it's no excuse for poorly cooked crawfish. I got the hot level n tasty sauce but it was very lacking in spice n overall flavor. The crawfish felt they were tossed into a regular pot n boiled - also there were still poop strains on there n not washed out with salt water. Also bc they didn't boil the crawfish in flavored broth the inside were all tasteless which made it tasteless b dirty. The shrimp in extra spicy n tasty sauce was better . The corn was over boiled along with the garlic noodle ... yeah overall poorly made but the shrimp was def better. I know coming near closing around 915 pm isn't great but you can't just cheapen out on flavors n if u don't want to cook well then we can go somewhere else too n just say it's too late. My first time getting a seafood boil and it was sooo good! We got the special at the time which included snow crab clusters, shrimp, 2 potatoes, 2 corn and we added green mussels and crawfish. My only complaint is that the crawfish was a little too fishy and kinda sandy that day, but everything else was delightful. We also got the $7 mai tai which was really refreshing! We were headed downtown on a weeknight, only to discover that our theater tickets had been for the matinee show when I thought I had gotten them for the evening performance. Oops! So we decided to make lemonade out of lemons, and try someplace new for dinner instead. We headed up to the Old Orchard area, and thanks to Yelp! found out there was a newish seafood place we hadn't tried yet. I am a crab lover, so the name was particularly appealing to me, and the reviews were really good. Not only were we happily satisfied, we were thrilled to find an amazing new place where Bonefish Grill used to be. Our server, Kevin, was the best. He explained everything in detail so we knew exactly what to expect, and treated us like royalty. I was very happy to see that they had king crab on the menu, and it was the perfect antidote for me to cure my blues after messing up on the theater tickets. I also added corn and sausage. I chose the mild garlic butter seasoning for the perfect combination. Some things that set this restaurant apart compared to others we have been to - three tools (scissors, a cracker, and a crab tool) were included for opening my crab legs; the bag wasn't just laid on the table, it came in a large round tray, so I could dump the contents into the tray and not mess with the bag; they provided a very large bucket for our shells; and we were given several pairs of plastic gloves and some nice large wet wipes to use throughout. I also liked that there was a napkin dispenser on the table, rather than a roll of paper towels. The crab legs were delicious, as were the corn and sausage. I finished the crab legs in the restaurant, ate part of the rest, and brought my leftovers home for a wonderful second serving. My husband tried both the fried clams and fried scallops, and declared them very good. He also said the Cajun fries that Kevin recommended were quite good. I topped my meal off with a couple glasses of Moscato, which were just the right amount of light and sweet to boost my mood. My husband had maitais, and said they were wonderful. He ended his meal with a piece of cheesecake (I may have had a few bites, too), and I just had another glass of Moscato. (Yum!) It is a new restaurant with a fun decor. It wasn't too busy at 8:00 on a Friday. We were seated right away. The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is the service was a little off. They forgot utensils, messed up our drink order, didn't bring the graveyard bucket back. Nothing major just a lot of little things I think will improve once they become a little more established, they just opened at the beginning of the week. Ordered the garlic bread, was ok but not much taste to it. For the main course, had a pound of shrimp and half a pound of clams with the garlic butter and Cajun seasoning. This appears to their first week open so maybe this was a rough example of how this place function. They have some growing pains. My mother can eat shrimp, but is allergic to crawfish and crab. Since this place is a seafood boil, she asked if everything was boiled together or if they could boil things separately. The server said she wasn't sure, but she would check after getting our drinks. She never came back. A manager came over, seeing we had no drinks. My mom asked him the same question and he said that he would check with the chef. We also ordered iced tea with him. He came back after five minutes and didn't tell us about the allergy answer. Getting fed up, my mom ordered coconut shrimp. I ended up getting the shrimp boil. The food was actually good. My mom liked her coconut shrimp and sides. I liked my boil, but there was literally one corn cob and one potato. I was warned on this, but it was weird. Near the end of the meal, our disappearing server was back. She never brought out any food or filled any drink. That was the manager. She brought our bill and asked if we wanted to leave a tip. I'm hoping the tip went to the right person because she didn't deserve one. I'm usually very understanding and service workers get a bad rap, but she didn't provide any service (good or bad) except for bringing the check. While the food was good, we are likely going to wait until they have their act together. This is a brand new restaurant that just opened this week. They have plenty of seating and can accommodate large groups. They made it look like you're on a boat inside with the fish hanging from the ceiling and the brown walls. Loved the lobster with sunglasses that was outside. The bar isn't opened yet. We got a pound of crab legs and a make your own bag with half pound of headless shrimp and half pound of sausage. The tasty special sauce we got had lemon pepper, Cajun and garlic butter which was delicious and we got the hot spice level. The spice was enough that it had my top lip burning, I don't want to know what the extra hot is like. The seafood came in a steaming bag and was fresh and delicious. I know they just opened and are just learning how things work but service could have been a little more attentive. The hostess was great and so excited. But Our waitress never checked on us after our food was delivered. After dropping our check off we had to wait another 15 mins for her to come back and scan our card. The service was good, and Rita was excellent doing her job. My only complaint was the gumbo. Uhm, I just can't do bad gumbo I make a mean pot of gumbo and I hate to put others up to mine but it is what it is. In closing, I will definitely be back many times it was that good. No reservations and got our pick of tables and booths. They have a decent cocktail menu and okay wine list. We ordered the combos. The tasty sauce hot is pretty hot. My wife had medium and she will do mild next time. Even though she puts tabasco on everything. we had an assortment of shrimp and snow crab and dungeness. All comes in a bag with two pieces of corn and baked potatoes. The half pound has to be more than a half pound. THere was so much food we brought back more than half of it. Was hesitant about coming because of some dramatic reviews, but my mom and I took the chance thinking ppl can be bitter and came for the weekend specials they have. We were sat very quickly, right off the bat cute decorations and ambiance.
