I had read that this was a great sushi spot in Cabo so I had to come here. Although it was a bit of a walk away from the harbor, I really wanted good sushi so we decided to pass up the sushi spots that were already on the boardwalk in search of great sushi and I'm so glad we did because we were not disappointed at all. Again, while we didn't have reservations, they had to seats left at the sushi bar, which is located in another room, separate from the main dining room, which we did not get to see since we were taken directly to the sushi bar room. It was a lively room full of locals, not tourists, which I found to be comforting. Everyone was having beers and a good time. We sat down and the owner and chef, Memo, attended to us and took our order. He answered all of our questions about the menu and gave us a bit of his history on his background working across the US in LA, NY, and Japan. He was clearly very well trained and brought his still back to Mexico. I ordered the Pho Soup which was an interesting take with wagu beef. This is a very rich appetizer dish which was delightful. I also had the following nigiri Fatty Tuna Wagu with truffle Uni Cucumber Salad I will concur that this is THE BEST QUALITY SUSHI in Los Cabo San Lucas! The sushi rice is on point! Wonderful gem Of a place... We had the mango tuna roll, the rainbow roll, the spicy tuna roll and the cherry roll...also tried the tuna tartar and the sashimi salad and everything was delicious. If you are looking for a great omakase experience, look no further. While visiting Cabo, we found ourselves craving for some fresh and delicious sushi. During our timeshare presentation, JJ gave us his recommendation to come here and made a reservation for us. We took a taxi here and were not disappointed. The place is not clearly marked, so it was difficult to find. It was diagonally located from an Oxxo convenience store. Back home in the Bay Area, we have a certain restaurant that we love to visit for omakase. I went in with no expectations and was blown away by taste, presentation, and quality. This had to be the best omakase experience I've ever had. If you are expecting to have just fish/sushi for your omakase, be sure to tell the chef that you only want fish/sushi, otherwise you may get some unexpected dishes like pho soup, gyoza, and fried oysters. While those were not really sushi dishes, we did enjoy them. Every dish was curated with such detail and care. The fish was so fresh and delicious that I'm not sure we could ever have fresher sushi unless we are eating freshly caught fish. I'm pretty convinced that this will be our best omakase experience ever until we visit Japan. Our omakase meal even came with dessert. They served us taro ice cream with some fresh strawberry slices, lychee, and green grapes. This was a sweet delicious treat to end our meal. Once arrived to this establishment, you knock on a large sliding wooden door with a small window through which you convey the number in your party and whether you have a reservation (it is a small establishment so probably a good idea to call ahead for larger groups), after which you are admitted into the restaurant. The sushi and sashimi are some of the best I have ever eaten anywhere! We sampled the miso soups, the Cherry roll, the Mango roll and the Maguro sashimi. This was enough for a comfortable dinner for 2. The staff are quite attentive and checked in with us often. I would highly recommend! Also, the location and entry are a bit obscure from the street (not a lot of signs identifying it) so might be helpful to take an Uber the first time to be sure you find it easily. read more

We ordered Uni, Ramen, and the Lunch Box Roll( Philadelphia roll, Cali Roll, Avocado Roll) Tried to order Salmon Sashimi and they said they were out...but guess what? Philadelphia roll comes with salmon. Ramen came out and broth was watered down with sesame oil. It was a disappointment. Uni came out looking really old and orangey. Took a small a small bite and it's not fresh. It looked like it sat there for days. It was room temperature. By now, I was pretty annoyed and hated all the food. We learned that he's worked everywhere in the US from LA, San Diego, San Francisco, New York, to Texas prior to opening his sushi restaurant. With all that experience, you know he has a lot of talent under his belt. It's a great hidden gem to anybody whose tired of eating Mexican food. We ordered the caterpillar rolls, gyoza, and the full bento box with the teriyaki chicken. The caterpillar roll had just the right amount of cream cheese to not make you feel bloated and all the fish in our dishes tasted fresh. Everything was amazing. I was visiting Cabo from Dallas. We came to this Sushi place and were blown away. We did not have a reservation but they sat us anyway. People had been raving about this place since we got here and so we decided to take a chance and try sushi in Cabo. Why wouldn't you try sushi using the freshest fish around? As people have mentioned, finding the place is by far the hardest thing to do. I suggest you google map it at your hotel and then take a screen shot of the location zoomed in. It's on the corner of a street directly across from an OXXO which is a convenience store. The other thing is that they are not called Blue Fish anymore and is actually called "The Fish" sushi. The chef is the same and it appears everything else is as well. One thing to note is that I like Sushi not sushi. I want simple, made with skill and fresh. I don't care for the fancy rolls or the things dipped in sauces that Americans are looking for. I like my simple sashimi and nigiri. The day we went (3 days ago) the only fresh fish they had available was tuna and salmon your basic stables. You can order them thin or thick which comes in 2 different price brackets. Thick is the way to go and reasonably priced for the quality. Clearly this chef has trained in sushi making before given how well the pieces were cut and how the rice was cooked. We also ordered the unagi (anguila - eel) rice and nigiri which I guess I shouldn't have been too surprised came precooked in a vacuum sealed bag. It didn't actually taste all that bad but I guess the fact that he was opening it in front of us and then plopping it on the rice was a bit of a turn off. We also ordered the ramen which is by far nothing likely the 24 hr cooked broth that you would expect at a ramen store but then again not one that you expect to buy at the supermarket for 99c. It was satisfying this cool evening. I probably don't need to come here again but I would say that this would be the most authentic place you'll get around here. Everything else is geared towards American tourists. Yes, they do speak English here. There are a lot of locals and tourists who frequent the restaurant. They do not take reservations but there is a lot of seating. read more

My husband and I loved this restaurant. We sat in the omakase room and Chef made us sushi. It was so good that we didn't stop to take pictures of the sushi but we did make a reservation for the next night. We returned (our last night in Cabo) and enjoyed it even more than the first night. Co-owner of Metate restaurant, Jorge Bazignan, gave us a list of some of his favorite non-touristy restaurants in and outside of the Cabo area. In his own words, "Go check out one of the best/freshest sushi in town at The Fish Sushi. There is a crazy Mexican who is more Japanese than he is Mexican!" My wife and I have eaten sushi in our travels, and Chef Memo Reyes's creations are absolutely legit and a testament to his 20+ years in Japan. There 2 separate areas as follows: (1) the first is a regular room with just as fine of a quality as the 2nd room, but less fancy and (2) the second is a little more fancy and it's where Chef Memo hangs out and creates an experience without a menu or you can choose to control your experience by selecting your own menu items. For reference, we started in the first room; however, Chef Memo pulled us into the second room when we told him that Jorge from Metate recommended that we visit. We had 6 of the freshest salmon and tuna nigiri, 3 different roles (dragon, rainbow, and chef's special), miso soup with crab and tofu, tempura, 2 bottles of Sapporo beer, and a bottle of really good Mexican white wine ...for USD $111.00 with gratuity. No way we would have paid as low as that in Chicago, New York, San Francisco, London, Paris, etc. Well worth the trip!!! Already planning to go back before we head back to the Windy City! read more
