Magda is a fantastic pilates instructor who truly cares about ensuring that everyone in her classes get a great workout that is suitable for their level. I discovered this studio through her online platform when studios were closed in NYC due to the pandemic, and have been taking group classes, privates, & duet sessions ever since. I've tried many other Pilates studios in NYC, and can say without a doubt that Magda's classes are the best if you're looking to strengthen your core, mobility, and overall fitness. I highly recommend for everybody - I've brought my best friend, my fiancé who had never done pilates before, my sister-in-law.. and now they don't go anywhere else. Also - don't sleep on the online platform on their website - the workouts are extremely effective yet doable. You get live feedback from an instructor who corrects your form. If you prefer live workouts (who doesn't?), the studio has a great variety of Pilates apparatus (reformers, Cadillac, chair, ladder).

The new studio she designed is stocked with brand new top-of-the-line equipment; Sylvia spared no expense and you can tell. From sleek reformers that turn into fuller towers with the addition of a panel, her classes now have no limitations. She thrives on creative moves, mixing things up and continuous learning and training. The studio is bright and airy, with almost floor to ceiling windows and just some plants in the window sills with props for working out everywhere else- there is no clutter or mess and it is all about pilates. You enter into a perfectly angled sitting area with a shoe & coat rack, and two curtained changing areas behind. There are socks for sale if needed (a must have as per studio policy), and a water cooler if you bring a bottle. I have been a student of Sylvia's for over 4 years and she has become a friend. She is a generous instructor, giving her all to her clients and not letting them slack- you do not go to her class to 'take it easy.' You go to get your ass kicked, and EVERYONE in class knows and wants that- prior experience necessary! Through class, Sylvia always makes sure the room temperature is comfortable, which is very unusual I find, but much appreciated. Obviously as you work out it gets warmer- most instructors never take this into consideration, and I think it shows a lack of awareness about their clients experience. Additionally she is hyper aware of everyone's injuries & limitations, as most clients are regulars- but if there is someone new, it is definitely the first question she asks...well, maybe after "you have done Pilates before, right?" With a giggle...... This too I find is not as common as it should be in other Studios and demonstrates to me even more the care she has for her clients well-being safety and overall health. Today was my first class and it will not be my last, we did a serious ab section, tons of quad and glute work, as well as a lot of work on our lats and our triceps. The hour flew by as it always does with Sylvia, and I was sorry to leave. I'm scheduled to come back already this week so I'm looking forward to getting my butt kicked once again! Glad you are back!

I've been going to Power Studios for several months for 3 main classes: Cardio Sweat Party, Kick Hopping, and Sexifit. The instructors are a blast and really motivated and hard working. No BS. The girls (and guys) who participate are very into the workout as well. I cannot say for the other classes but for the three: 1. Cardio Sweat Party is strictly cardio based dance and fitness moves that are nonstop but does not mean you can't stop for a breath and a sip of water. How you push yourself is how much of an experience you'll have in that class. 2. Kick-hopping incorporates dance, boxing, and fitness. Your body will ache for a couple of days, but it's worth it! You will have to partner with a fellow attendee for the boxing part of the workout. 3. Sexifit is a great morning class that is a workout and a dance class at the end. You learn a routine. Very fun and small group. Overall this gym is a great place to sweat with a ton of young professional women (and one-two guys if any). No judgements. And they give freebees outside of the class too. The classes are all taught by consummate professionals who do the class with you and use their depth of knowledge to sneak in stretches throughout the class while correcting your form to be sure you're doing everything properly. They do this in a positive & helpful way vs. shouting commands (this is how it's done!). I've taken the following classes - Cardio Sweat Party, Movenze, Dynamic Pilates, Total Body Burn, Afternoon Barre Crawl (love this name...) and Box & Burn. Every class was fantastic. Different spin on all of the usual moves in regular gym classes. The Studio in Midtown East - Small unassuming elevator building on 3rd Ave. and 55th with quick easy in and out access. Friendly efficient check in desk with water, products, etc. 2 nice bathrooms on the 5th floor with all of the amenities - soap, paper towels, coat/bag hooks, full length mirror Cubbies for your stuff inside the classroom Fitness studio in smaller in size, but never over-crowded in my experience. Night classes fill up, Daytime classes are smaller groups - sometimes just a few people and never cancelled due to low attendance. An indication of how well the place is run. Plenty of new equipment (small - no big bars or weights to hassle with!) to use during class (hand weights, blocks, balls, mats, boxing gloves, sliders, etc.) Small branded face towels to use for class This studio is a hidden and possibly secret gem in the keep in shape business in NYC. It's a small sleek place with a great staff. Bottom line - it's easy to workout here and the bonus is you'll learn a TON of new techniques and don't need to worry about a novice instructor that doesn't understand the effect of a move on your body. Intensive is the level of attention you get from your instructor. This isn't McDonald's style pilates town. This is old school, European gymnasium precision and dignity -- this practice honors your attendance, your commitment and the safety of your body without making it a bore. And it's rigorous and inventive. I can't recommend this place highly enough -- go see for yourself. As a side note, the space is spacious and pristine, with a purple zen vibe that caps off an already terrific experience.

It's a very spiritual focused studio but they also care deeply about the biomechanics and functional movement. I started going here for the Bikram and loved it every time because every week I would learn something new to improve my form and connect more deeply. Lately I've been more into the Meridian and Vinyasa classes which are not heated and less hot but challenge me in a different way with more inversions, some pressure points, and some new positions. The instructors are amazing and so down to earth. Highly recommend for a grounding and welcoming experience!

Also, and it is just my personal experience, the other practitioners seem to follow the same vibe as the people that work there; friendliness is a top down phenomenon. I've seen people of all body-types, all genders, all ages, and all races at Spiritlab. Everyone is accepted. The 26&2 teachers are top notch. There is not one bad teacher. I've learned helpful things from each and every one of them. I also took the 26&2 fall training last year and if you want to learn how to teach, it's a great experience. Spiritlab is like my second home and I feel that I am very lucky to be a part of it.
