Our family visited The Flame July 10. There were six of us, all adults. The hostess was very helpful & friendly. Our waiter, Diamond, was also very friendly. We ordered a pizza as an appetizer, which arrived very quickly, and was very good. Two of us ordered wings, three of us ordered three piece cod, one of us ordered walleye. The wings arrived about 15 minutes after the pizza. They were delicious. More than a half hour later, the walleye & one cod dinner arrived. At that time, our waiter announced that they ran out of cod. About 20 minutes later, after we all had finished our meals, she brought one more cod dinner-after telling us they ran out of cod. All four fish dinners were to include fry bread, but only one dinner included it. The facility and the location are outstanding. It's too bad the restaurant is struggling to provide consistent service, similar to what you may expect with a new startup. read more

She had to leave the table several times while taking our order and during service to ask questions. Ordered wings and curds. Curds were adequate, ranch dressing was runny and wings were not thoroughly cooked. They replaced them and they were still not done and red inside. We waited an over an hour for our food. Our waitress brought out half of our order then went to a different table to take their order. 10 minutes later another dish was brought out but the pizza was apparently burnt so we had to wait another 20 minutes! So total waited a hour and a half for simple food items like pizza and fish fry. They also messed up our whole order and had fries in place of onion rings. They also forgot items that we ordered. I've been here a few times and this is a reoccurring problem. I highly recommend to avoid this place and go somewhere else. read more

The Flame has expanded their menu recently and it now has a little something for everyone. The recent remodel has really turned this restaurant into a destination via land or water. With dockage for at least 24 boats, you won't have to worry about not being able to get a spot. Ample parking for cars is also available. Dining outside was very nice. Our server, Sarah, was awesome and gave us the full scoop on the remodel and made us feel right at home. The cocktail and beer list was extensive and reasonable. If you are a rum fan, some fun bucket drinks are available for the table. We had a tasty margarita with our cheese curd appetizer. For an entree we had the fish sandwich, chicken sandwich with onion straws and a chicken Cesar. The food and drinks were tasty and fairly priced. The service and ambiance were excellent. We look forward to seeing The Flame continue to grow for the remainder of the year into next season. Definitely add this to your go-to list! read more

The Flame has opened under new management recently. The bar / restaurant is constructed with an open concept. One drawback to this concept was that it was loud and it was difficult to have a conversation. Indoor & outdoor seating were provided. The view was good, especially closer to sunset. The staff were friendly and nice. Service was good considering the recent opening and training of staff appeared to be occurring. The menu was limited at this time. I understand it will be expanded. I could not complain about the food. It tasted good and portion size was generous. The pizza, I admit, was one of the better ones I've recently eaten. The crust was thin and crispy with a very good flavor. Over all I would recommend The Flame to family and friends. read more

Great remodel - the bar is huge. Very loud though - hard to hear conversations. We waited a long time (15 min.) for our cocktails. Fish fry is WAY over priced. $32.99 for Walleye? We pay $18.00 in Madison! My friend and I had the onion rings for appetizer - thought they were shoestrings - nope. We both ordered the perch and waited over 30 min. for our food. The waitress apologized and said that they ran out and had to go get more at the store. What?? Coleslaw was awful, fries were okay, beans were very good and the fry bread and honey was tasty. The perch was the worst fish I have ever had - tasteless, soggy and the breading was falling off! We had been to The flame years ago and vowed never to go back. We thought we would give it a chance. The wait is not worth the food. Both the appetizer and the pizza were sub par quality not to mention took an unnecessary long time given their taste. The app called the Wachos (loaded waffle fries) were a mixed bag because the topping seemed fresh but the fries were over done or stale. The pizza took two hours and had a bland taste to the cheese and the soggy crust. The sauce is okay. The wait was the real problem. 6-930 was the time spent there and during that time at least two pontoons arrived via dock, entered and left the restaurant with To-Go containers which was the real kicker given the 'limited menu'. We waited over an hour to get our food. The server apparently lost track of the order. The manager came out to apologize but never really did anything to rectify the situation. The worst part was after FINALLY getting our 2 grilled chicken sandwiches, the food was absolutely HORRIBLE. Dry chicken served on a cheap, white bun. American cheese and a few onion ring pieces on top. The sauce that was supposed to be on the sandwich was never to be seen. There were a few cold fries on the plate and that was it! We have been going to The Flame for years and really loved the pizza. We were hoping for a good experience at the grand reopening. We arrived by boat, the boat launch, and the exterior of the restaurant looked great. Upon being seated, we found the staff friendly, but the food was subpar. Definitely not hand, tossed pizza crust, bland taste, not even good for frozen pizza. Sorry to say, we were expecting much better. Really hoping they figure it out and improve the quality of the food. The Flame has been a go to spot on the lake forever and we hope it continues to be so in the future. read more

The old Flame did need updating and a good cleaning, but the newly remodeled place is soulless--all of the Northwoods charm has been removed and has been replaced with a place that feels like a cross between a CrossFit gym and a penitentiary. Cold hard surfaces of black and grey and horrible bright lighting. It's very loud inside and hard to hear conversations. Bummed that there is no longer a porch which was our favorite place to sit in the old place. Outside, all the pine trees have been cut down and replaced with a manicured lawn. This is not what people come to the North woods for!!! Massive disappointment on the remodel. Service was slow but the staff was friendly and the food was okay. I'm hoping in the coming years they can give this place some sort of personality. God knows it needs one. read more

The cow's still bleeding?? Charred on the outside but she's still mooing, I don't understand how you can do this as a chef this is an absolute disgrace to cooking as an art. We have been to The Flame three times and each time was fantastic. The renovations are beautiful. The service is prompt and friendly. The pizza is fantastic with a great thin crust and quality toppings. We had their fish fry (cod) and it is very good with large servings. The breading was light and not greasy. I have never left a new restaurant so frustrated and disappointed. The restaurant was redone beautifully. That's where it ends. The service was worse than poor. There was no lines waiting at the door. A few tables were empty. Very poor communication with hostess and waitresses. We waited for a waitress for over 40 minutes. There was plenty of help. We finally got our own drinks and after we told the hostess we had no waitress one finally showed up 45 min later. We told her we were done waiting and left. The only, I repeat, ONLY, good thing about this place is that it's kid friendly! They have a small arcade, pool, darts, can jam, corn hole & it sits on a fun lake! We were seated at a large table on the porch-- the table wobbled & spun in circles. I could look past that though. The beef sandwich we heard was so amazing we found out 15 minutes after we ordered it was sold out. The mashed potatoes and gravy.... sold out. I settled for an over priced salad that was mediocre. The fries were over cooked & our food took an hour to come out to us. We had to ask for more water & received one water cup to share with 7 of us. Then we asked again when our food came & finally got water.... We received a $70 bill & left disappointed. But don't worry we had to wait 20 minutes for our check as well. But the location on the lake is nice!!!! We had 5 in our group and all of us left with the same opinion. The food portions we had were small and they were really expensive and overpriced for what you get. The waitstaff was slow but maybe there was only one person working. The place was almost empty and the person was a bit rude, when we asked after a lot of time for our orders. It was also difficult just to get more beers. It is/was an all cash business so make certain you have plenty of cash on you, or just choose to go somewhere else where you get more for your money and better service than we did. The ribs we ordered had no taste and were supposedly smoked but there was no smoke flavor in my ribs. Just moist bland tasteless ribs at a ridicules price. With limited choices appealing to us at the nearby Lake of the Torches casino, we walked over to The "New" Flame. I'm not certain what's new about it, but we spied the word "new" in front of the word "flame" numerous times. (Management, I presume.) The Flame claims they have the Number 1 pizza in the northwoods. That sounded good to us, so we loaded up a medium pepperoni with mushrooms, onions, and black olives. It was good ... really good! Growing up in the northwoods, I've come to realize that good pizza up here does not have the same definition as good pizza in the cities. Usually it means piling up ingredients in a giant heap upon a soft, doughy crust leaving a muddled, flavorless profile. Not so at The Flame. The ingredients were fresh and of a higher quality layered atop a thin, crisp crust. Just the way I like it! Our service was good. Our waitress had a genuine concern that everything was right with our visit. She was friendly and kind and quick with the beers. Pizza finished, we headed to the bar to take advantage of their bucket of 6 shorties on ice for $6. After all, the Packers first preseason game of 2012 was on the tube. Being the genuine Wisconsinites that we are, there's no way we can leave a bar until the game is over. While at the bar, the Pack only scored once, but that one score brought out a round of Apple Pie shots. Apple Pie? What a perfect dessert to our pizza! I like The Flame. The waitress sat us not far from the bar. There were several drunk regulars sitting at the bar. That was the first red flag. A woman with a foul mouth singing at the bar kissing another drunk customers. It took about 20 minutes to get our drinks. I found that odd since we were the only people in the restaurant. The server was pleasant, but had a issue comprehending our drink order.I told her my drink order several times,so did my boyfriend The food was ok but they need to care for customers if they want to continue getting customers from the casino. While away for a family fishing trip we stopped here. We had the fish fry which was really good. Unfortunately, our waitress was the worst waitress I have ever had. Never greeted us, not friendly at all. My husband ordered a cheeseburger and it came without cheese. He immediately told the waitress and her question was, oh you wanted cheese? He said yes, I ordered a cheeseburger. He then said if she could just get him the cheese he will put it on, she took his plate and said they will put it on, it came back and it was cold and placed on top. Which was fine but she could've just left the plate. She then said upon her return that the cooks yelled at her. At that point everyone ordered a round of drinks, and surprise, it took her more than 15 minutes to bring refills. We could see the bartender put the drinks on a tray immediately after the waitress went up there, but they sat at the bar forever. We wanted to go get them ourselves but my mother in law didn't want us to cause a scene. Three stars for the food, which is worth 5 stars to me, but unfortunately our waitress completely ruined the experience. read more
