Pot pie - a teeny bit salty but what a crust!!
Vijay N.

I was so pleased with the quality of food and the ambience at Union kitchen! The tables were spaced fairly far apart, so there was plenty of room to feel like it was a lively atmosphere without being overcrowded! There was a nice big table right near the window for our whole family. The service was friendly and all of the dishes were very creative and delicious! Well standouts were the vegetable pot pie with an amazing layered crust, and all of the desserts! We would happily return to have a meal with family or to celebrate a special occasion!

My first time actually having dinner here after previously coming for our lunch or brunch only. Inside the car is perfect for a date night or if you want to do a nice gathering with your friends. We start at the happy hour where they had plenty of drink options and different food items. Their wings were delicious and came with a blue cheese dressing that really liked. Some of the people in our party got the margarita and an old-fashioned. Both were very well liked. They had some many versions of their dinner entrées on the happy hour menu so we are glad to try them. We also enjoyed the chicken Katsu sandwich as well as the potatoes. The steak frites was new so we were excited to try it. Because we were sharing they were nice enough to separate it into two plates. I highly recommend this restaurant!

We stopped in for a quick bite during the Holiday Stroll. Me and my friend we both ordered the burgers and drinks. Our burgers were perfect and our waitress was really nice. She noticed I didn't like the first drink that I ordered and offered to bring another one which was a margarita this time. ( fig and pepper I believe) . Very tasty and perfect to warmed you up. The ambience was nice, a little bit noisy but a really nice experience overall. I would definitely return.

Have been wanting to try here for a long time. Finally went and it was great overall! Our server was very nice, cool vibe inside for sure. The space is open with a high ceiling so it does get loud when it's busy. The apps we had were so good! I was very impressed by the pork belly, and the presentation was 10/10. Entree was also good, I had the half chicken. Loved how saucy it was and chicken was very juicy. The drinks I got were just okay.Performative margarita really just tasted like tequila and sour mix to me. Wasn't crazy about espresso martini either. My husband's cocktail was very good, the Incan garden, great use of flavors! Same to the float like a butterfly, so tasty!

Went here for brunch with some friends. Loved the atmosphere of the restaurant! Food was pretty good - I got the eggs benedict and my friends said the omelets were good too. Nothing blew us away but definitely think a reliable option for classic brunch foods

Came on a Thursday night in November without a reservation and sat in the bar at a high top. The bar is cute. Service was good, food was decent not amazing.

I've been wanting to get up here to dine and it only seemed fitting to start the New Year off right with Union Kitchen's fried chicken and champagne brunch. New Year's Eve dinners/New Year's day brunch specials, in my experiences, have always been a cash grab by restaurants where you would get a decent meal but always leave hungry or the opposite where the price was super extravagant yet food was mediocre at best. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE!!! Food was amazing. Chicken was spiced and fried to perfection. Crunchy without being greasy. I refuse to eat fried chicken in public yet almost human eating this with people around. Juicy meat, 4 piece of half breast, wing, thigh and drummy all meaty. Sides of picked pepper mac&cheese and Cole slaw. My wife tore into that coleslaw like her life depended on it and was everything she's been looking for in a slaw Breakfast burrito was packed full of goodness, substantial. Side of potatoes which could've been a meal in of itself. $19 and well worth it. Brought half home for breakfast the next day. All in all, not only was their value in the prices offered throughout the menu, the food is incredible. Service was amazing. Our server was attentive without being intrusive, good eye for when we needed something without us having to ask. Perfect start to the new year and aching to come back for dinner. It was worth staying home NYE and falling asleep early in order to be fresh and ready for this dining experience.

If I could give union kitchen more stars I would. We made a reservation on a whim just to try a new spot for dinner while we're up in west Hartford and I'm mad we didn't come here sooner. Their tasting menu is absolutely worth spending the money on for 6 courses plus an amuse. We started off with a raw oyster topped with sturgeon caviar and was the perfect amount of briney. Next course was a seared diver scallop with fennel. The scallop had the perfect sear. Next was the foie gras course. It practically melted in your mouth. The dish had the perfect amount of sweet and saltiness to pair with the smoothness of the foie gras. The pasta course was a mortadella mousseline agnolotti. If I could order this one dish everyday, I absolutely would. It was no doubt the best pasta I've ever had. The saltiness from the cheese was the perfect touch to the mousseline that you savored in every bite. The fish course was a striped bass over jasmine rice and paired with a curry sauce. It was flavorful with a good amount of spice. The meat course was a dry bed New York strip with layered potatoes. I could lick the sauce off the plate it was so good!and lastly, after all that food was a chocolate tart with a mascarpone whip accompanied by a caramel sauce.it was rich, smooth, creamy and the perfect way to end the night. Overjoyed and satisfied is an understatement with this experience. It was truly one of the best tasting menus we've ever had. We're looking forward to returning very very soon!

We stopped by here for a quick bite and drink. We had mocktails and they were delicious and fresh! We had the apps i included in the pictures and they were pretty filling for apps, especially the brussels and pork belly. The pork belly was so good. The bartender was attentive. We need to come back for dinner for sure to get the full experience.

Happy hour menu

From the happy hour menu we tried: Dumplings, tuna Nachos and the mac and cheese. And anything with the words pork belly in them. Cocktails menu is creative and changes often. A great low key, classy, casual place that usually has options from a quick snack to a more upscale dinner experience.

Stopped in at Union Kitchen with friends for drinks and dessert. We just had eaten so we wanted something light and sweet. It wasn't extremely packed when we got there around 730pm On a Friday but people started to come later and it definitely got busier. Our waitress was very sweet and helpful providing suggestions! If you are GF , there is definitely limited choices for dessert ! I had the Montenegro Ice cream. I'm Not sure if it was suppose to be soft like a shake but separately the Montenegro liquor was served to be poured over the ice cream. It was very good. My friends had drinks and a Warm Brownie. Menu has lots to choose from but if you are looking for sliders and wings this is not the place. Perfect date nite restaurant!

Buckstar

My friend and I went to Union Kitchen for Happy Hour. We sat at the bar. Union Kitchen is a nice place for a first date, it isn't too noisy and it has a very upscale look and feel. I got the Buckstar cocktail, this was so unique and so delicious! This is a vodka based cocktail, with mint, cacao, and citrus. It is lemonade yellow, crisp and juicy with back notes of cacao. What a drink! For food, my friend got their house bolognese, and I got the Whipped Ricotta Toast. The bolognese was very fresh and was topped with the just right amount of parmesan. My whipped ricotta toast came on two tiny pieces of toast, but this ricotta was pouffy like perfect little clouds. There was a coat of sweet apricot jam on my toast. Finally, it was topped with balsamic and pine nuts. Wow! This was such a pleasant play on my taste buds! I was so happy with my first visit to Union Kitchen. My drink was unique and delicious and my ricotta toast was so delectable and tasty. My friend also enjoyed her pasta and her cocktail. I'm looking forward to returning here again soon!

My friend and I visited this restaurant for the first time, instantly had good energy and a pleasant atmosphere. Classy ambiance, no loud music, the lighting was just right (not too harsh). Staff were friendly, and warmly welcoming us. The waiter even offered her services to take a photo for us, which was very thoughtful and appreciated. Everything we ordered from this resturaunt was a 10/10, matched our expectations. The food description was perfectly described as what it tasted with its high quality ingredients and artistic plates. We were highly satisfied, and did not leave with empty stomachs, but with empty plates. We look forward to ordering more foods off the menu, and to see friendly faces with a personable attitude once again, for our next visit. Highly recommend if you are in the West Hartford center location. They also offer private seatings/parties as well for bigger groups. Thank you Union Kitchen!

We returned for Father's Day and we were seated immediately without a reservation, though I think we just got lucky so I don't recommend this. We all shared the warm olives, the croquet poulet sandwich, the fries, the quiche lorraine, the chateubriand, the roasted beets, and the strawberry ice cream. It was all a hit, and when a 3.5-year-old and a 22-month-old are enjoying your food without any coaxing or help, you know it's fabulous! My husband got some cocktail and I got the phony Negroni mocktail. Service was great and the atmosphere is chic without being uptight or snobby at all. We all left really happy. I still dream about that sandwich. I'd love to go back and try other things on the menu. I'm sure they knock everything out of the park. I am hoping Le Mazet will be our special occasion restaurant.

My daughter was eating so much of this steak and so were we! It was sooo tender and we loved the gravy on top. The fries were amazing and when they were drenched in that gravy it was chefs kiss! What really brought it all the together was the salad paired with it- it was light and refreshing and the dressing was so good! For dessert our server suggested the chocolate custard so we got that and a berry handpie. We ate both and kept saying "oh my god" with each bite. My daughter especially loved the chocolate custard but my husband and I loved both equally! We immediately said after our meal how we have to come back. We cannot wait to try other menu items and their cocktails next time. We are huge fans and will definitely be back!!

It comes with these giant HARD "chips" (think Bartaco guacamole - if you've been there). Was not a fan of their guac. I got the buffalo cauliflower tacos as my entree. They were OK. My boyfriend ordered the chicharrones and they came with pico so I took the pico and added it to my tacos and it made them better. For an entree my boyfriend had the chicharrones, a shrimp tacos and al pastor taco. He said all of the dishes were ok. We didn't bother with dessert since everything else was pretty much a miss for us. Service: Wasn't bad, there were only maybe 10 people so they were very attentive and nice but nothing to rave about. The textured walls are gorgeous and give the space a style it was definitely missing before. As usual, the happy hour menu never disappoints. The Pomjito is a personal favorite.. refreshing, light, and not too sweet. We also got the oysters and mussels, both solid. The mussel sauce was unique compared to a typical tomato base, which we really appreciated. For my entrée, though, I was disappointed to see that the tuna salad I always order had completely changed. It used to be an arugula salad with Asian flavors and the tuna served on top. Now it It's a Niçoise salad, and the tuna is awkwardly placed on the side. Nothing about the tuna tasted like it did before. I'm usually a sucker for ahi tuna, but this was honestly one of the most disappointing ahi dishes I've ever had. It felt totally incohesive with the salad next to it. I really wish they didn't change the menu so frequently. Once I finally find an entrée I genuinely look forward to, it disappears. That said, we'll still be back for the great happy hour food and solid drinks. Now it's just a matter of finding a menu item I like... and hoping they keep it.

I chose The Laurel based on the great reviews, not knowing much more about this place. Upon arriving, the parking lot was packed. I also had a difficult time getting in when walking from the parking lot, which is behind the restaurant. The issue here (which is my only negative about the entire dining experience) is if I were with a person with disabilities (as I am at times) who doesn't walk fast and we walked to what we "thought" was the entrance, only to find a sign saying to use the front door, but no arrow as to where that is (and keep in mind, I don't know the area, this place, never been here before) and if it were raining - This would have been a horrible way to start the dinner. PLEASE post a sign on the door with an arrow showing which way to go. Also, the door says it's for disable folks, but it's locked. OK - My griping aside... Coming in, I was quickly greeted and seated. The staff here was GREAT! Very engaging and VERY helpful! The menu here is AMAZING! Good thing it's a joint that specializes in small plates and that I was part of a group of three, it gave us the ability to try a bunch of items; seven, in fact and that's not including dessert! The flavors from their vegetarian and vegan dishes were so darn good, you don't miss the meat! Everything was plated beautifully and perfectly! We also placed our entire order (not desserts) all at once and they brought them out as they were made, which worked perfectly with our timing too. They not only have a full bar here, they have a "craft cocktail" quality bar! Upon walking in, one of the first things I noticed was their yellow chartreuse! Of course, next to this was green. So, when I sat down I asked about it, and my server told me how they were able to get this and so I ordered a Last Word, which came out SPOT-ON PERFECT! When it came to the food, some favs of ours - Their Watermelon Crudo - This looked and had the texture of tuna - AMAZING!! The Vegan Empanadas had amazing flavor and texture! I also liked their Stuffed Peppers - The "Samosa Potatoes" in them really hit nicely as well as the sauce on top. Save room for dessert, they have some great options here! We couldn't decide, so the 3 of us ordered 4! We tried their crème Brûlée, their Unbirthday cake, Tres Leches Tiramisu, and their Brûléed Cornbread. The Unbirthday cake was nice - reminded me of what it looks like, Funfetti! But their Brûléed Cornbread was AWESOME! Loved the crispy edges of the cornbread and the entirety of flavors. It wasn't until mid-meal that we really had a talk with our server about the amazingness of the food, the artfulness of it, as well as the attention to detail and creativity of the menu and that's when we learned that the chef here recently won an award for best chef in Connecticut! Well, now it's obvious - Why the parking lot was packed and why everything was so very good! Highly recommend stopping in - but make reservations!

It was actually too salty even though my coworker requested less salt on everything. I enjoyed dipping the fresh bread into the oil. Lastly came the entrees. I was a bit disappointed in both of them. The hanger steak was cooked medium rare like I wanted but the texture was not great. I was hoping for a more tender cut and this was a bit tough and lean. The frites were cooked well and very crispy. The duck confit was very tender but I didn't think it was amazing. Overall I don't think I will be returning to this restaurant with so many other great options around. I might be biased as I am not too familiar with French cuisine but we already sampled most of the classics already.
