Hale Pele is hands down my favorite tiki bar in Portland…read more Sure, the space is small and intimate - so there can be a long wait on a weekend night, but it's absolutely worth the experience! As a heads up tho, I wouldn't come here if I had a party more than 4 if you want to seated quickly, less in your party is better! The moment you step inside, it feels like you've been transported somewhere tropical! If it is daytime outside, you wouldn't be able to tell inside of Hale Pele. Between the thunderstorm effects, flickering lights, bamboo accents, and cocktails literally arriving on fire, the whole experience feels immersive! I've been coming here for the last 10 years and it's the spot to recommend for birthdays! The drinks are fire (literally), the food is so good. I recommend the sliders and the Hawaiin bread that comes with the fruit jelly!!! if you feel like escaping Portland for a few hours and spending the evening in Hawaii or the Caribbean, you gotta come here!

Thankfully, the timing worked out where when our friends arrived we were able to be seated fairly quickly so we lucked out. They will not seat you until your entire party is there which I appreciate. The decor is what you would expect it to be with tiki style furnishings all around and a soundtrack to accompany the vibes. Once you walk in and shut the door behind you, it's almost a given that you'll forget the time of day because the entire place is windowless. Another cool feature if you ask me. I have to say when looking around I kept contemplating the fact that someone walked in here and said "yeah, this will make a great tiki lounge". Regardless, they were right! The food was actually delicious. I had the cuban sandwich and the hawaiian bread.

Order at the bar or seat yourself and staff will take your order when they can. Nothing fancy, just good food, strong pours, and a laid-back tiki theme bar. This was one of my go-to spots when I lived in SE, so many good memories coming here after work for dinner and a drink. They deserved a review.

This time around, while visiting Portland Oregon, my wife and I discovered Da' Hui Hawaiian Bar & Grill nestled on Foster Road, it offers quite an array of known and some less known island cookery. Some of their offerings include supposedly Portland's Best Kalua Pork, the likes of Hawaiian Style Chicken, Lemon Chicken and many, many other dishes ready to entice you. A few of us stopped in for a bite and I must say, none of us were thoroughly impressed! One of my fave dishes - Loco Moco in all its simplicity, I thought lacking. I had their Loco Moco consisting of grilled and lightly seasoned (somewhat bland) beef burger patty served over rice, topped with 2 sunny side up eggs (which can't be made wrong), with grilled/sauteed onions and totally smothered with a less than respectable brown gravy, then served with an okay macaroni salad! Although everything we tried was just okay, I found it nothing to write home about. Not bad, but not great either. It's just a place to get your adequate Hawaiian on!

I know we…read morehave several really popular polynesian and Hawaiian restaurants in the area, but I'm uncertain how many uniquely identify as Samoan. Tusi's Deli Creation may be the only one! Located at 68th and Glisan, the restaurant has been introduced to the community slowly over the last few months. The owners are currently doing catering and producing prepackaged deli style food for sale elsewhere, but they've also opened their doors to the public on the weekends. Apparently, the intention is to open for extended hours in early November when they'll operate from Wednesday through Sunday. I've only sampled Tusi's Deli Creation dishes sold for prepackaged takeout, but the chicken half moon pie and round pancakes (Panikeke) are so fresh and packed with flavor, I can't wait to visit this weekend to try more! I'll amend my review when I do. In the meantime, the deli is building quite a social media following where they show off some of their dishes, and make announcements about hours, etc. I highly suggest you check them out before they get so popular they begin selling out of inventory!

Please look for the sign. I had to take a turn around the block to realize it was there. (It was rainy and dark out). The owners are lovely people super attentive and welcoming. I called ahead to make sure this wasn't a fluke and the guy answered and reassured me they did indeed have COOKED Samoan food! I got fish, mamoe, muli pipi, with rice and taro. Let me tell you, I don't even think I chewed for the most part. HAHAHA. The food was warm, delicious ,and a comforting in the way that only food from "home" can comfort you. They for sure have blessed hands in the kitchen. I didn't try any of the baked goods or the deserts. But they're an option that I am fully going to take advantage of next time! The owners mentioned they were robbed and almost gave up! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE COME OUT AND SHOW SUPPORT FOR THEM! They truly deserve your patronage! Thank you again for the AMAZING meal.
