I used take my dogs on the ferry into SEATTLE to be groomed until I found Fluffy Ruff. I have a very small 14 yr maltese/chihuahua mix and a 9 yr old cockapoo. They both are always happy and look great when I pick them up from their appointments. The staff is loving and kind and I can tell they are well taken care while there. Kristen especially makes my pups feel safe and comfortable. The location is easy to access and park. The pups are groomed perfectly to my specifications and I couldn't ask for more. Went in with my two labs for nail trimming. Told to come back the next day. It could have been done in about 5 minutes while I wait but they were very snooty about it. I asked if they would trim the hair between the pads of their feet and they said they would not because it would make their trimmer dirty. I had to sign up for a $60 dog bath first but they would not do it for a full month. They were not even nice about it. I would not go there and would not recommend. read more

My wife and I are new to the Kitsap Peninsula and we needed to find a place to groom our Portuguese Water Dog. We are very particular on how he is cut and Fluffy Ruff Dog does a great job with him. The building is clean and they know what they're doing with grooming. We drive about 30 minutes one way to Bainbridge Island just to take him here! He always looks great and they always throw in something extra.(Free teeth cleaning once, toys at Christmas, and a nice bandana.) so even tho they might be a little on the pricey side, but if you want great quality you are going to have to spend a little more. read more

Fluffy Ruff is amazing! In the past [at other groomers] my dog has not enjoyed being groomed. He has been very dramatic about it: he hated having his paws touched, he hated having his tail touched, the dryer was his arch enemy, and he turned into an acrobat when you tried to cut his nails. Julie let me come in and sit with him (as his Emotional Support Human), and I think he may actually start to enjoy being groomed! I went in well aware he's a tough customer, and I was so touched by how sweet and patient and loving Julie and her team were. I knew things had taken a turn when he was starting to fall asleep during his blow dry. Besides the way he was treated, Julie is so talented at grooming! I would not take my Yorkshire terrier, Kenna, to any other groomer than the Fluffy Ruff. Julie and her staff just know what they are doing and treat Kenna very gently. My older dog came home with cuts on his ear, legs and tummy. He has always been very good at the groomers. Never had any complaints of being squirmy and groomers have always told us what a good boy he is. This leads me to believe they don't groom with care. They are so busy that they rush through the grooming which results in cuts on your dog. For the amount you're being charged they should be taking their time and be careful with your fur baby. Even though its a bit of a drive I'll be taking my dog to paulys in port orchard. She always takes special care of my little guy and doesn't over book and rush the grooming. read more

I have been taking my black Havanese male to Fluffy Ruff since we moved here in March. They truly are wonderful with him and he is a lot of work. He has his full coat and it's very thick, so to get him thoroughly cleaned and brushed takes a specialist. hello please excuse my punctuation etc. i am visually impaired so it is difficult to type. i have a labradoodle . this dog is the kindest loveliest animal you will ever meet. her tail is explosive when she sees you . she will kiss you to death so be careful. poodles like to lean into you so they can get their pets it is wonderful . she loves everyone. many of us say that about our dogs but she is the genuine article. i have had her since she was a puppy. she has been groomed dozens of times and has always had a great experience. poodles grow hair in their ears that has to be plucked when groomed. they shake their heads for a while because it feels funny , maybe a few hours. she is on her 4th day. it is so bad i had to take her to the vet who said the ear canal is terribly inflamed and raw , and i have to give her meds for 10 days. this is the first time i had to sign a waiver in case she is cut,nicked, gets clipper burn or brush burn but they will not be held responsible for any of these 'side 'effects. she got nicked and was bleeding from both fer ears so someone had no idea what they are doing . she is the love of my life . i hope you can understand how devastated i am. an experienced groomer would never let this happen. they would be gentle and caring .my dog is very high spirited. she will play for hours. she has not gotten up and has slept for four days. how can i help her. we know our dogs and she is stressed beyond belief. i am so sad for my little girl i don't know what to do. you decide for yourself. none of this has been exaggerated. read more

I brought my beloved, very matted 11-year old bearded collie into Fluffy Ruff. I was impressed by the cleanliness, and the seeming professionalism of Julie, the owner. We just moved, had the flu, etc. and so Ariel's matts had not been brushed as they usually are, and so we agreed that clipping her would be the best thing to do for her comfort. Fast forward 24 hours and my dog has corneal abrasions, pustules from an allergic reaction, and a staff infection. She is in a great deal of pain. Without asking me, without permission, Julie (the groomer) gave Ariel a flea bath -- although I told her I had not seen a flea and she was not itching -- using pyrethrum. Our vet told us that Ariel had definitely had an allergic reaction, and that this type of flea treatment is NOT the standard of care; pyrethrum dips are not considered good for dogs anymore because it is such an irritant and is very harsh, according to the vet. We do not know if Ariel's eyes will recover from her corneal abrasions, she is on antibiotics, Rymadil for pain, Benadryl to help with swelling, eye drops that make her cry. She is miserable and we are extremely worried. I called Fluffy Ruff, and left an even-handed message for Julie to let her know what had happened, and to tell her what the vet had said about the flea treatment she used. I did not lose my temper, and remained civil, intent of her getting the message that she had endangered my dog and that she should NOT use this dip anymore. She did not even call back to see how Ariel was feeling. That is the part that I find incredible. Not even a phone call of concern, let alone asking if there was anything she could do to make this situation better. When I filled out a form for Ariel, there were a few lines that said I would not hold Julie responsible for cuts, abrasions, etc. that happened when she groomed. I have NEVER seen a form like that from ANY groomer I have ever worked with; I should have left. I hold myself responsible for not taking a cue from that form that some harm might occur. DO NOT ALLOW THIS OR ANY GROOMER TO GIVE YOUR DOG A PYRETHRUM FLEA DIP AND PRE-EMPTIVELY SAY "I DO NOT WANT YOU TO DO THIS". My dog did not have fleas, has been groomed 100s of times by pros, and always came home bright eyes and shining, and in lovely shape. Also, this woman uses aromatherapy; I am an aromatherapist trained at Purdue University. Animals are VERY sensitive to essential oils. They need to be used with great caution and care. DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO USE ESSENTIAL OILS OR AROMATHERAPY WITH YOUR PET UNLESS THEY ARE CLASSICALLY TRAINED. These are serious chemicals and can injure animals unless handled in proper dilution and in the right way. I take no pleasure in writing this. My poor Ariel is so sick, and this was entirely unnecessary. No flea treatment would have meant no problem, according to the vet. And, according to the vet, it was completely inappropriate for her to use a flea dip without permission. And no call after leaving a long message. No caring. No concern. Had she called and told me she apologized and got the message, and would not use this flea product again, I would not have felt compelled to write this. It is a secondary concern (Ariel's ill health is by far more important as any dog lover knows), but the groom was $100, the vet visit $181, and we will need to bring her back at least twice. She cannot go out alone and needs eye drops every six hours without fail, which meant appointments, etc. needed to be canceled today. If the groomer doesn't care enough to own up to a problem or show any concern if there has been one, do you want your dog in her hands? read more

I just called and the owner said she's not comfortable grooming my dog because she doesn't know him and he's an elderly Chow. Dog racism.

We were looking for a groomer for our little dog that was kind not only to our dog but respectful to his owner. I thought that the price was high but was willing to give them a chance because it was convenient on the island. Boy was I disappointed. Not only did they charge that high fee but they were rude and cruel to our dog. They called me up after I dropped off our dog and complained that he wasn't very clean and did I realize that they only work with show dogs. I was shocked! I may not have a show dog but he is kind and deserves the same attention as other dogs. I have never been back. read more

We recently moved to Bainbridge and I hadn't taken my dogs to a groomer yet. Was a little nervous about picking someone out of the phone book. Took my dog, less than a year old and pretty wiggly, to them and couldn't believe it when I picked her up. She was transformed! They did a wonderful job with her, the best I've ever had. I have no vested interest in writing a review, and I don't do it often, but I found them to be thoroughly knowledgable and professional. They only had time for one of my dogs, have to take the other one in separately, but I liked the fact that they didn't try to squeeze her in. Clearly they are more interested in being able to take the time to do a good job. I actually appreciate that even though it means I have to make two trips. The groomer asked me pertinent questions when I got there about what kinds of services and cut I wanted for my dog that made me confident that I was dealing with a truly professional groomer. And the result when I picked her up confirmed my assumptions. Such a good job. I feel like I lucked out on my first search for a good groomer. They are a bit pricey, and I'm sure I could get the service cheaper at a pet shop groomer, but I've done that before and there is no comparison. I will be a loyal customer from now on! read more
