We've been here a half dozen times or more, which is enough to have a good sense of what a place is like reliably. Overall, we are fans. Service has consistently been great- friendly and prompt but not overbearing. The menu is interesting, with a mix of Regional and European-inspired dishes plus salads and burgers. Hard not to find something that sounds good. Food quality is very good, and everything we've had from burgers and entrees to fish fry to soups and sandwiches, has been tasty and well- prepared. Nice beer selection. The menu is limited to appetizers, salads and a few sandwiched for lunch. They have additional items available for dinner. Their French Onion soup is a mainstay on the menu and worth ordering. Very beefy with a nice amount of onions topped with rye bread and cheese. We went on a Friday and had the soup du jour Clam Chowder. Big pieces of clams and potatoes in a cream based soup that wasn't fishy. Sandwiches include a house salad (very good) or Fries (also very good). I had the Cuban. It was good but I expected it to be a pressed sandwich and it wasn't. This is a hidden find in Fitchburg, I can't believe we had never been. We had great service (shout out to Rebecca) and the atmosphere is fun and welcoming. The place was busy on Friday night, but it was fun to get out! We both had the peartini which was a little watery tasting and bitter in a strange way. Other than that, everything was delish! I had the chicken piccata and we split sweet potato fries, which were amazing. My partner had a pesto grilled cheese -- holy goodness! After hot yoga a friend and I wanted to try this new to us restaurant. A Saturday afternoon it wasn't too busy but it did get busier the longer we stayed lol. It's a cute place to have lunch. I ordered the Cheesy Steak Sandwich and a Pomegranate Margarita. My sandwich and margarita were really good. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Even when they became busier she still checked on us. The margarita was huge compared to other restaurants and I loved that they used Pom pomegranate juice. As for the Cheesy Steak Sandwich it included hearty slices of ribeye with fresh provolone and mozzarella cheeses, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, and garlic aioli, loaded between slices of grilled panini. I stopped in on a rainy Tuesday night, after a long day. It was fairly busy, but I was able to find an open table. A bit understaffed, only a bartender and one server for about 30 tables. Just had lunch here. I wouldn't get the Strawberry Basil Salad if you're expecting to see berries in the salad. There MAY have been one berry cut into small pieces. However, you will get a MOUNTAIN of Arugula. Hubby had the clam chowder, which was good. The patrons seated next to us dumped a full glass of water on the floor. Duchesse de Bourgogne, Flanders Sour Red Ale is delicious. The Founders French Toast Backwoods Bastard, Wee Heavy Scotch Ale is also very good but a bit heavier and slightly more stout like. My friend and I were happy to find a nice restaurant open after 9:00. The Flying Hound has a nice pub / sports bar decor with some rear terrace tables. Very few patrons were evident at that weeknight hour and the hostess / server was immediately attentive. We skipped an appetizer because my friend wasn't particularly hungry ordering, I believe, the Chicken Piccata. The 8oz Ribeye caught my eye partially because of the chimichurri sauce. I've seen chimichurri sauce prepared on cooking shows and salivated for it, now with an opportunity to taste it. Upon my request the steak was ordered as rare as possible without salt or salted seasoning, chimichurri on the side. The first slices into the steak were delicious with a real charcoal grilled flavor. Subsequent slices reached an internal gristle layer which inhabited 80% of the steak. Luckily the supplied steak knife was quite sharp so it was possible to salvage perhaps 2oz of the steak which, when augmented by the potatoes and string beans, provided a sufficient volume of food to satisfy at that hour. The chimichurri sauce was as delicious as imagined able to enhance the available beef. We passed on dessert and my friend grabbed the check. As the "guest" I didn't free to complain but hopped the kitchen would notice the amount of waste. If fully consumable the meal would have cost $3.125 per ounce of steak. Readers don't need me to do the math of this meal. I've done enough cooking in my life to know salt will tenderize most meats and internal fats will gelatinize at a correct temperature. Ordering rare and unsalted may have put the kitchen at a disadvantage. Still, I think the particular cut prepared and placed for the server was defective and should have been observed and eliminated by properly trained kitchen staff. read more

Gosh, I absolutely love this place! The atmosphere is great, the beer list is phenomenal, the food menu is great, and the outdoor patio is beautiful when weather permits. When the Hound first opened I wasn't wild about a lot of their food options, but now I it's always such a tough decision with the food menu because I want almost everything. I was just here with the family for dinner, and ordered the pappadew burger with veggie patty. It was super delicious, although I must say I've had better veggie patties before. Still, I appreciate that it's homemade and everything on the burger was great. I like to think of myself as a french fry connoisseur, and theirs were perfect as a side! The mixed greens as a side also looked delicious. Tough decisions! Everyone else at the table enjoyed their entrees and everything looked amazing. I always enjoyed my experience over the passed 8 years but they changed the name to "The Hound" in July of 2024 and ever since the bartender and some waitstaff seem confused about the vision of the establishment. My friend had the grilled cheese -- she enjoyed it but it was bit dry too me and we both commented there was too much lettuce on it. Our other friend had the hound burger and it was only ok. I first ordered a Maker's Mark and a ginger ale, the guy said okay......but will ginger beer do as a substitute for the ginger ale. No it won't I said. I told him you could substitute sprite with a splash of coke. Okay he said.......but will a Sierra mist and Pepsi do? No I said, nevermind I will find a beer I like. I cannot believe a bar has no ginger ale, coke, or sprite. What a crock. So I ordered a wheat beer, my wife the watermelon gose and she had the salad and I had the fish and chips. If you're a stout drinker like me, there are plenty of good choice here. You will not be disappointed. For food, they offer an Oktoberfest special. The one I tried was the Brawtburger. Pretty juicy and major goodness. The Scotch Egg was awe-ite, basically a sausage wrapped hard boiled egg with Chinese mustard. Mustard was good but not spicy enough. Had fried cheese curds for the first time. Pretty good but super heavy. Only need to eat 4-5 of them. The order comes with about 20-25. Excellent comfort grub. I also had the French Onion soup which was good and had quality though I didn't think it was hot enough. I like French Onion Soup to be blistering hot. All in all, had a great time here. Food is always great, the beers are ever changing, offering new sips each visit, and the staff is always very responsive and friendly. Having dined at the Flying Hound quite a few times I would say it is definitely a solid choice. The atmosphere does have a very hip vibe to it. At any time they have 20 plus taps that rotate. This creates a nice selection and something new every time you stop in. Most recently I went with some friends on a Friday night. It was nice outside so we sat on the patio. Our server was not the most friendliest, but every other time we have been here the service has been good. She may have just been having a bad night. For drinks I got a cider that was on tap, and my fiance got an old fashioned. The cider was a good patio sipper, nice and refreshing on a hot day. The old fashion was well made as well. For food I was feeling ambitious and got the barbecue chicken. I soon realized this was way to much food for me. It was a half chicken with coleslaw and choice of side. For the side I opted for a cup of there home made clam chowder. The soup was delicious and rich with big pieces of clam in it. The chicken was also very good it was just a huge portion for me. Usually I opt for a sandwich, wrap or salad. The sauce had a good spice to it and the meat itself was cooked but still juicy. Overall the flying hound has some very good pub food that has been up scaled. Its a nice local restaurant that you can count on for a good meal. read more

This was was a craft beer stop on a rip through Wi so didn't have any food so this review is only for the craft beer selection. The place is deceiving because it's in a strip mall and until you walk in, you can't get a good idea of what this place is. This is another one of those cool places with high ceilings and exposed stone walls behind the bar. It has rich red walls and dark woods balanced by the lighter wood floors. There is some big flat screens for all the games but not tons of them like some places. The back does have some out door seating for the nice days. The craft beer menu was very diverse with beers from all over the country and the world. I had some sheeps brewery dark beer that I can't remember the name but it was cold and good. Overall I found this place to be a nice place for some craft beer and just chill with friends. read more
