Cute little cottage place, plenty of Germanic influence. Service was prompt and plenty of attendants running around if you need anything. The food was good, particularly the strawberry muffins! Lovely place to bring those who haven't been to Wisconsin before

Visited Quivey's Grove for the first time for a Saturday date night. Made a reservation in advance for a table at the Stone House. The venue was really cozy & rustic looking. The staff were very polite and friendly. We started off with some complimentary seasonal strawberry muffins which were great. For main, I had the (Saturday special) prime rib which I thought was very tasty and reasonable for the price. Overall, had a good experience - would recommend!

I went here for the Friday fish fry. I recommend the Lake Superior whitefish....delicious ! Many local micro draft beers including Potosi, Capital, and New Glarus. The stone house is very busy on Friday for fish fry so plan to arrive early or later 7pm. Good bar too for pre dinner . Enjoy, I did!

This beautiful historical bar is absolutely breathtaking! So much character with the original flooring Rickty stairs it offers two levels of dining. I really love the ambience and the structure. It was disappointing with the food. We ordered cheese curds and they were just OK. I had the salmon which was dry And not very warm. Overall, not very impressive.

    Stable Grill Menu

On my last night in Madison, I wanted something local that was casual, but not as casual as just burgers and sandwiches. To that my buddy recommended Quivey's Grove - Stable Grill. Quivey's Grove is two restaurants in one with the main house being a full dining and semi-upscale experience. While the Stabke Grill is a casual, old school style steakhouse vibe with all wooden walls, floors, tables, seating along with dim lights and a slightly limited menu from across the sidewalk. It wasn't busy when we arrived, so we bellied up the bar and were immediately greeted by the bartender (Cory, I believe). He was excellent from start to finish! We ordered a few cocktails to get us started then settled on a couple of entrees including the schnitzel and meatloaf. The schnitzel was perfectly crispy, thin and the mushrooms and butter sauce on top set it off! The meatloaf was tasty, but not the best I've had. Was a bit firmer than I am used to and the red potatoes were like warm. Nothing that detracted from the dish as a whole, but definitely noticeable. During our meals we were talking sports and the bartender switched the tv for us so we could finish the Yankees game. Very cool of him! Overall, we enjoyed ourselves at Quivey's. Not sure I would rush back during my next visit to Madison, but I wouldn't run away either.

The lamb with mushrooms and onions and slice of their delicious Parmesan potatoes.

The waitress was really friendly and helpful with menu selections. We started out with the muffins they always serve you. A nice touch! Then we had the stuffed mushroom appetizer with Madeira sauce. So good! Next, we had the chicken and asparagus soup. From the first bite, I was hooked. Such creamy, yummy goodness. My husband had the lamb, which was perfectly done, and I had the Chicken Bond that is like Cordon Bleu. Also good. We didn't have room for dessert. We ate in the Stone House, which is the old farm house. It is so quaint. I try to imagine what life was like when the house was built. Love this place...also we have had the Friday Fish Fry! Also very good!!

Quivey's is our favorite fish fry in Madison! The bar is a super cozy and easy place to wait for a table. And this is absolutely worth the wait. We like to order cheese curds and old fashioneds. The fish is always perfectly fried and the parmesan potatoes are perfect. Don't let the wait deter you. Quivey's is so great!!!

I had the Lodi sausage sampler and the holiday sangria.
    Bridgette K.

Couldn't help but dive in right away. The apple-something sauerkraut was perfect with the sausage sampler. Really cool spot (we were at the carriage house side), even if I almost missed the turn and it looked closed, lol. Go in, it's worth it. There were a lot of interesting choices on the menu, so deciding was probably the toughest part, but we sat at a high top in the bar and the bartender was great.

We ate at the historic Stone House. It's a well maintained old building with lots of character. The service was excellent and the food was pretty good. We went for their Thursday night special - Date Night, which offers a meal for two. For $50 you get appetizers, choice of entree, a dessert to share, and 20% tip is included in that price!

    Fish combo with parmesan potatoes

I took out lunch from here on a Friday. This place was in a silent area. They have a dedicated parking lot. And it was mostly empty at that time. I was there for the fish fry and was not sure which one to go for. So finally decided to go with the fish combo. Cod fry was the best, and whitefish fry coming in as a second. Baked code was ok. Cross plains chicken was my other item. That was really good as well. The smashed potato that came with it was really good.

A delicious dinner at this storied spot. Ate at the Stable Grill, one of the several dining rooms at Quivey's Grove. The Stable Grill is in 2 rooms. The dining side is in what was originally a stable - stone walls, big timber, low lighting. Adjacent to the dining room is the bar, built more recently but using recovered timber from several old barns. Decor and ambiance is upscale in a rustic way, but not fancy. It's a cool vibe. We were treated to great service by our bartender and server. Friendly and efficient; orders placed accurately, food served as ordered, quickly and with a smile. THANK YOU! We started, of course, with cheese curds. You can't be in Wisconsin without eating cheese curds, right? Delicious chunks of breaded, deep fried cheese, served with a creamy ranch dressing for dipping. Yum! I tried the Brooklyn Beef. This is a sirloin, smothered with sautéed mushrooms & onions in a red wine sauce. It's served with half of a baked potato with melted cheese on top. The beef is tender and juicy, ordered and served as ordered - medium rare. The mushroom/onion/red wine sauce was well blended, a great complement to the beef without being overpowering. Delicious! We ended the meal with apple crisp. Chunks of apple baked in an oatmeal crumb crust, served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Soft apples with just the right amount of cinnamon and sugar, baked in a crispy, chunky oatmeal crust. The balance of the sweet with the vanilla ice cream is sublime. Add the texture of the oatmeal - this is a great dessert. For a great meal in a rustic setting, give this place a try!

Our waiter gave us great tips in navigating the menu and experiencing the variety - and it could not have been a more special experience celebrating my brother's 60th birthday with my 91 years old dad. They have 3 Old Fashion options - we tried 2 and they were both rock solid. The ravioli and trout almandine are savory entrees that didn't disappoint. The baked potato is an innovative cloud pleaser but highly recommend sharing. And don't sleep on the onion soup - I've never experienced anything like it. The smell that emanates when you first pierce the creamy foam layer will make you say 'whoa.' Will definitely return.

The restaurant was beautiful and the service was amazing. I appreciated that our waitress was very knowledgeable about the dishes on the menu and what ingredients they contained, which is perfect for anyone with allergies or dietary restrictions (like myself). We were seated near the open kitchen which also added to the dining experience. I tried: - Scallop toast - I really enjoyed this. It was mild, not fishy tasting at all, and the brioche was toasted very well. I'm not a huge seafood person aside from sushi and poke, and had never had scallops before, so I was not expecting to like it as much as I did. - Ricotta Raviolini - I was not a huge fan of this, which was especially disappoint since it was my main entree / the most expensive on this list. It was essentially a folded sheet of pasta with a tiny bit of ricotta, topped with barely cooked asparagus and snap peas. The menu also lists lemon infused olive oil, but I didn't taste that at all. The parts of the raviolini with a good amount of ricotta were delicious, but the dish overall was bland and tasted like raw asparagus and peas. My friends also tried it and none of them liked it either. - Baked Potato with The Works - super simple and perfectly executed. It comes with bacon, which we got on the side since I don't eat red meat. Potato was fluffy and salted perfectly, with a good amount of other toppings. My friends who do eat bacon said it tasted more like ham than bacon, and they actually preferred the potato without it. - Dark Chocolate Bread Pudding - Loved it. I love bread pudding and chocolate pudding, but never thought to combine the two. It was delicious - soft, not super sweet, and great portion size. I would recommend sharing, it's pretty rich which can be overwhelming at a certain point. - Flightless Bird mocktail - this was one of the best mocktails I've tried. It has a black tea base but tasted more like a regular cocktail without the alcohol burn rather than tea. Everyone at the table enjoyed trying it too. Despite the raviolini being a miss, the rest of the food, service, and ambiance made this such a wonderful dining experience that I can't wait to come back and try more.

We made a 12:00 PM reservation, which was definitely necessary because the place was full. Right off the bat, our server asked if anyone had food allergies or dietary restrictions. When I mentioned I have celiac disease, he confidently assured me they could absolutely accommodate it, which immediately gave me peace of mind. I ordered a strawberry spritz and we shared the gluten-free donuts to start. A huge win for the celiac community is that they have a dedicated fryer, so we also safely shared the truffle fries. For our main entrees, I had the fried rice which was excellent. My husband ordered the skirt steak hash with gluten-free toast and loved it, though it is worth noting for others that it packs quite a lot of spice. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable and attentive regarding the allergy protocols. The overall service ran a little slow, but it was understandable given how slammed they were for the Sunday rush. As an added bonus, the restaurant has its own parking lot, making the logistics seamless. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this spot, especially fellow celiacs looking for a safe and delicious meal!

Since it was nice outside we opted to eat on the small patio which was nice. Our server was was very good and kept things moving. It was happy hour so we ordered two of their spritzes which were $6 each - they were both good (strawberry/ limoncello). Appetizers were supposedly $10 each during happy hour - we got the tempura veggies which were very good. We also got the chicken wings which we later found out when we got the bill that they were not considered to be an appetizer covered by the happy hour pricing (they should make this clearer on the menu.) The wings themselves were good but six wings for $18 was a ripoff. I get it that inflation is high but that is ridiculous... My wife got the fried chicken sandwich which was very dry. This was the same result last time we were here - I guess we should have read our review and avoided it. Overall it was just an OK experience - disappointing.

The sangria is strong but you won't know it until you stand up. We started with the cheese puppies and they had a fantastic pull to them. Some of the best version of cheese curds I've had in a while. My husband and I both had salads and the bowl was too small for the salad but it was a decent salad I do wish the cheese was sprinkled on top as it ended up going to the bottom of the bowl. For an entree I had steak frites. Fries were solid and the cooking of the steak was good with the charcoal but it didn't have much flavor. The chard on the side was also good considering I've never had it. For dessert we had the valentine special chocolate cake and again it was good but nothing super special. We didn't stick around the bar too long but enough to get a winning pull tab. I would come back for the bar tenders they seemed chill.
