Very cool decor! Loved the Jamaican flag decor and the vibe. The food was good, I was hoping for more heat in the jerk seasoning but the chicken was so tender. The rice and peas was a little dry and I needed hot sauce but very flavorful. We had no complaints about the festival and cabbage. My biggest complaint was the service. Our main server may have been having a bad day because he was very curt; at the end we got our check from a different worker and she was lovely. The food took quite a long time for a lunch past 1:30pm, when there were only three other tables. We would come back but would plan for a bit more time, this is probably not the best place for a quick stop lunch. read more

Came again and this place just keeps knocking it out of the park! Oxtail tacos were soooo flavorful and decadent. Plantains and festival were perfect for a sweet tooth like mine. Staff was incredibly friendly, and on this Wednesday night, they did music bingo! Fun! read more

A really solid outing on a Sunday afternoon. Maddie was my bartender/server and she was amazing. Great recommendations. Super social and friendly. The weather was terrible when I stopped in, so I had the restaurant to myself. They have a full bar and cocktail list. I started with old-fashioned made with rum. It was delicious. For food items, I wasn't that hungry so opted for a few items. Ordered the beef and cheese, empanada, jerk, chicken, skewer, and the oxtail birria taco. Except for the chicken skewer not having a hard sear, everything was exceptionally delicious. Love the pineapple and onion relish that accompanied the chicken skewer. The Beria taco was rich with unctuous oxtail meet in a soaked tortilla shell. It was seriously addiction. Love to see the empanada with some sort of accompanying sauce, but regardless it was delicious. Three TVs to watch sports on. And just a great setting to grab a bite to eat. I took out dinner from here. The place was full. Good I decided to order ahead and take out. Place had a good vibe. Music was energetic. Their festival bread was my favorite. new jamaican spot in madison!!!! the goat empanada curry was just ok (could have used a side sauce to dip) but the birria oxtail taco is a must try. so full of flavor and made us want to try the oxtail entree which seems to be very popular and sells out early. the jerk chicken was actually appropriately spicy but so full of flavor. i did like the grilled salmon with the peppers on the side but it was just a TAD bit dry although the sauce was delicious. the jerk chicken / oxtail may be the way to go in the future.... read more

My friend and I shared a couple dishes and all the food we ordered was amazing! We had plantains, jerk chicken app, curry goat with rice and beans and festivals, curry chicken empanada, and the birria tacos. We both agreed the winners were the empanada and the chicken skewers. As someone who knows good Jamaican food, Fya Syde Kitchen did NOT disappoint. The jerk chicken was seasoned perfectly, the oxtails were tender and full of flavor, and the tacos were grilled to perfection. Coming from California, we were blown away. Most excellent food. On a cold Madison day the shrimp soup hit the spot. Deep, rich flavors that will make you miss your grandmother. Followed by a fish taco and chicken empanada. I'm in town for the Christmas holidays and was craving oxtails. My son and his wife surprised me my adding Fya Syde kitchen's Oxtails to our pre Christmas brunch!!! The food at Fya Syde is authentic, flavors are amazing and there is something for everyone. We ate there last night and the salmon was out of this world. It was topped with grilled peppers and onions. My favorite dish is the side of pasta. It's a simple dish but a great staple that makes me coming back for more. The chef Nicolette is so talented. Ate on a Friday night and the place was empty which had me nervous. We were welcomed right away and got to seat ourselves. The randomness of Bob Marley, Buju Bonton and other reggae music was a nice touch. The drinks were good and so were the complimentary chips and salsa. My wife ordered the jerk chicken and our server convinced me to try the ox tail stew. I was unsure- never had ox tail, but it was absolutely amazing. So much flavor, and the jerk chicken had a nice burn. We will be back to try the ox tail tacos. read more

We went with 14 people and the welcoming folks Xavier and Nicolette made it easy to sit together and made us feel very much at home. The mellow Jamaican music kept the ambience at the perfect relaxed vibe along with the friendly and interactive nature of our servers/hosts. Food came out in great time and all were happy with the taste. Stopped in on a Sunday night after 8pm. Do you know how hard it is to find a restaurant in town that serves after 8pm??! Thankfully this new Jamaican place is completely awesome and well worth a visit at any time. Greeted by a friendly server - and given some delicious salsa/sauce with corn chips. Sounds mundane but was totally delish. Our order was truffle fries, goat curry and the jerk chicken. Sides of rice and beans, cabbage and festival (a fried bread). A lot of food! Goat curry had a good long burn but without cauterizing your taste buds, meat was fall off the bone tender. Food your mother might have made for you. Jerk chicken was spicy and the spicy sauce was pretty great (spicy and fruity). Ordered ginger beer to go with our meals - good and spicy. Decor is modern casual and pretty cute. Good vibes even if we were the only late dine-in folks. Cute detail - jars of after dinner candy/mints on the table. Go check it out - food excellent and open until 10pm!! read more

This is a cute new restaurant on Monroe street. I stopped in for take out and had a Red Stripe and a warm bread appetizer while i waited. I tried the jerk chicken with a side of rice and beans and festival ( fried dough). The jerk chicken had a nice char, and the jerk seasoning had very fresh, well balanced tasting spices- yum allspice. Everything was really good, and the portions are big. read more
