Crust is a traditional NY style crust that's crisp outside but soft & chewy inside, sauce is sweet but not overpowering. The cheese, although not a traditional NY thin layer, was still delish. They put a very thick layer of cheese to where the toppings melt down into the pie....super yummy! I'd recommend skipping "extra cheese" here. I love stopping by the Flying pizza to get single slices of pizza. The closest that compares is the Jets Pizza, but that pizza has 2 inches of crust. The place is really good for getting a pizza on the go. I even got the whole pizza for friends and family one time and it was great. The only thing I'm disappointed about is no coupons or loyalty reward program. I like having the pizza but would love to come back more often if they offered rewards or discount coupons. pizza is very competitive market and the only thing missing is getting my repeat business. I'm forced to go places like dominos/papa john/donatos for their mediocre pizza. If they offered special prices on facebook, local shopper ads or online, they would get all the business. I recently moved to Dayton from Long Island, New York after my job relocated me here. I've been nonstop on the hunt searching for anything even remotely similar to New York style pizza. Luckily after trying tons of different pizza restaurants serving up those square cardboard slices of pizza I found this place. Everything from the crust to the sauce to the cheese is made perfectly. The fact that I can walk in and order just a single slice to go makes me feel like I'm back at home in Long Island. The pizza here is by far more superior than any other pizza in the Dayton area. I ordered a medium pepperoni pizza here once and ate the whole thing. So I don't have any real complaints. The pepperoni did seem a little rubbery or something, but that obvously didn't slow me down. I've also tried the thick cheese pizza squares by the slice. They are pretty good. Why would they charge for refills? I'm pretty sure it doesn't cost them much at all. Gave The Flying Pizza a try during a hotel stay. Had a good reference from a friend. I ordered and picked up in the store and found the people running the late shift 7pm very friendly and the restaurant was very clean and well kept. I'm giving an average score because the pizza average. The sauce and crust we're great but I found the cheese and meats to be on the lower side regarding quality. I noticed the other reviews and it seems locals like the pizza and give 4-5 stars while those passing through like myself tend to give three or less. So it's likley a local preference. I whish they had a smaller size for single serving. read more

We eat here fairly regularly. The place is no frills, but they are as real as it gets. No decor. No table service. But AMAZING food. Their sauce is tasty, their toppings are flavorful, and they sell by the slice. Their Sicilian-style (deep-dish) pizza is fantastic and the slices are generous but not TOO big. Two would completely stuff the average person. Most people could eat one comfortably. Their employees add a little color to the mix, but in a good way. Nice folks. My only complaint is that they charge for pop refills (which is ok by me) but LOAD on the ice, which means your drink goes away much faster than it should. So "no ice" if you want your drink money to last. They also sell beer in bottles - Heineken, Killian's, Budweiser, and Miller, I think. According to the owner, a non-busy night averages 15 minutes for take out, "more than that" on Friday and Saturday nights or if something big is going on at WSU. read more

Great deal and the salad actually had romaine in it with tomato, olives, carrots and a bit of cheese. Pizza was as good as we remembered and the guys at the counter were friendly and efficient. I generally don't like to post negative reviews, but I'm likely to be in the area for business again in the future, and I need to remember not to eat here. I had two pepperoni slices. They were lightly flavored greasy cuts of cardboard. It's the worst pizza I've had outside of a Cici's (although Cici's wins the Worst Pizza Award by a long shot). The staff generally seemed friendly, but I simply didn't like their pizza. We stopped into this pizza place for the first time tonight. I read some reviews stating the pizza is frozen and taste terrible. I do not see how. The pizza is made fresh right front of the costumers with fresh ingredients. It was cooked quickly and perfectly. The chef even babied the pizza by turning it and checking it every few minutes to make sure it was perfect. The final product was delicious, real pizza. If you like thin crust, greasy on the top, pizza that you can fold, you will like their slices - don't expect anything fancy - plain, pepperoni, and mushroom. That's pretty much it. Flying Pizza is always excellent, this is how true pizza should be experienced. The location is nothing fancy and neither is the pizza, and that is precisely what makes Flying Pizza exceptional. Flying Pizza makes good, honest pizzas with no gimmicky ingredients, combinations, or names (like Spinoza's). There is also no local lore keeping people coming in for bad food (like Marion's); instead, what you get are fresh, made to order, pizzas cooked in front of you. The sauce is terrific and so are the ingredients. You will eat more than you expected and still have a lot to take home. I've been here numerous times over the past 4 years and it is consistent in quality and cleanliness. We ordered a few 'medium' pizzas last night and their ruler must be broken because the medium pizza was larger than the large pizzas at most restaurants. Now, service can be slow (still not as slow as the nearby McDonald's), but the pizza more than makes up for it. read more

I am originally from Youngstown, OH, a city with deep ethnic roots in Italian, Polish, Slovak, and Hungarian food. The pizza is authentic old-world, and I'm very picky when it comes to pizza elsewhere. Flying Pizza is the real deal. Big slices, thin crust (not cracker type), and they use only primo ingredients. It starts with the cheese and sauce, of course. To me, you should be able to order a plain cheese pizza and be blown away...FP passes this test. Just your standard greasy pizza place. I ordered two slices of mushroom and pepperoni and a Heineken for lunch. It tasted like average American style pizza with no special flavors to the sauce. The bottom of the pizza was crunchy and crisp from the oven but the crust around the outside was chewy and tough like day old pizza. I was happy they served beer as that is not always expected when ordering fast food but the selection was small and only had things like Bud, Bud Light, Heineken, and Killians. I love Flying Pizza. However, I think I will have to stick to the downtown location. I went to the Fairborn location last weekend because I work at WSU and had to drive to Columbus. The manager was unbelievable. He was berating the employees constantly. I was so uncomfortable I almost left without my food. I would have asked for his name, but I was afraid. This is my first yelp review ever...I hesitate to disparage restaurants based on just one personal experience. But this was pretty terrible. I ordered two slices of pizza and a pepsi, and sat down to wait for the order. Five minutes, ten minutes, fifteen minutes passed. Though I was pretty sure they were just heating up pre-made slices, I didn't hassle the staff. Who knows...maybe they were making a brand new pizza. When other customers came in and got slices immediately, I politely asked where my slices had gone. The owner/manager mumbled some excuse about a shift change, slopped some canned mushrooms on two slices and asked me to wait a few more minutes. In reality, he was too busy shouting to some illiterate friend about the latest Fox 'News' hysteria. (He was very proud that he wasn't rioting over the Jussie Smollett non-prosecution, comparing that grave situation to, say, a cop shooting an unarmed citizen.) I'd recommend that he pay more attention to actual customers and keep his uninformed opinions to himself. The pizza itself was subpar, and as the actual New Yorkers who have posted previously here have noted, this isn't New York style pizza in any way more than that of any cheap chain pizza...and way more expensive. There are (easily) 15 better places to get pizza even in Dayton. read more
