Made reservations for 11 of us to eat at the forum over the weekend. The reservation staff were very helpful however the process itself was slightly annoying just due to how long it took to hear anything. It was about 72 hours to dinner time before we knew we had a table. Thankfully the staff were able to get us one. As for the restaurant itself, our waitress was EXCELLENT and all the staff were very nice. Unfortunately they were out of multiple bottles of wine but our waitress made sure we had enough options to choose from. The food was good and made very well, 0 complaints from anyone. Overall it was a very good experience and I'm extremely thankful for the staff making it as enjoyable as possible for us. The only detractors were the reservation system making us feel like we were left in limbo waiting and the wine collection missing some options. Overall I'd come back again fully. read more

Such a crazy experience. The food was amazing but the pacing was sooooo slow. We had a 7:30 reservation and we didn't get our apps until 9pm and our entrees at 9:20pm. All the staff was friendly but really don't understand why we were eating at 9pm! Loved my pear martini. It was not too sweet and was well balanced. The calamari was surprisingly very good. For entrees we really enjoyed the chicken piccata which was very flavorful and not to heavy and the filet with mushrooms and broccoli was perfectly cooked, a nice portion and also surprisingly tasty even though there was no real sauce. We only ate here because we had been told incorrectly that the main dining room at The Greenbrier was closed. We ordered the Brie, which was fine followed by salads. My Caesar salad was terribly bland and not worth eating. We ordered the Michelangelo pizza for our entree. The crust was good, and it was tasty enough but ultimately forgettable. The service was terrible. We waited for twenty minutes before anyone took our drink order. Our server was emotionless and fairly uncommunicative. It's the quality of Italian food in West Virginia and expecting it to meet the minimum standards for this cuisine style. Way too salty for the red sauce, and pizza rather bland and flavorless. Even the pool house grill beat this restaurant. I don't mind if a resort has a wide variety of offerings, but this isn't their strong suit. read more

I want to start out by saying our waiter Rusty is my boy. Plain and simple, cut and dried. Dinner choice on Friday night after a long drive in and no snack after a noon lunch. Italian restaurant, normal resort attire allowed, though other customers might be in jackets and ties. Anyway - nice place. Ordered a beverage and had table water, adding the cheese fondue for an appetizer. The fondue isn't the typical - it's a fried slice of Gruyère cheese with crostini and a side of sun dried tomatoes. Fine by me. I will say I immediately asked for more crostini when they give you three and the cheese is the size of regular slice of bread. The dish was really good. And the tomatoes gave it a perfect bite on top. I ordered the chicken parm, which if you've read any of my reviews on Italian places, is my main order any time it is available. I added a side Caesar salad and an order of meatballs. The measure of any Italian joint should be (1) their gravy and (2) their meatballs. They also have pizza here, so we decided to share a small pepperoni to try it. Hey, it was 7:30 and I hadn't eaten since 12. I'm a growing boy. The salad was perfect, and the chicken parm was good. I would have liked to have more gravy, especially on the pasta underneath it. Overall, had it not been for the side of meatballs - which had a lot of gravy, this would have been a dry dish. Great flavor though. The meatballs were good as well - had a veal composition to it which I enjoyed and the cheese herb garnish had the perfect kick to it. The pizza was ok. I'm not sure if it was light on sauce, the cheese was off or what - but even though it LOOKED great - the flavor was off. I will say the pepperoni was the best part. The food is your typical amazing Italian! The pasta is to die for, especially the red pesto pasta. Rocked my socks off. Not joking. My socks were on the floor, my server Sarah, had to pick them up. Speaking of Sarah, she's amazing. She made the experience so amazing and was one of the best waitress's we have had in a LONG time. If you ever visit the hills of West Virginia, try going to the Greenbriar Resort. There is an old classic hotel that has been around since 1913. There are many restaurants, shops and things to do. We went to the Forum Restaurant and bar inside the old hotel. We ordered pizza, calamari and other dishes. We enjoyed a lot of delicious drinks. The service was excellent, and the food was good. The atmosphere is a little bit noisy and not recommended for intimate couples. read more

This was our best meal while staying a few days at The Greenbrier. We would have given it 5 stars but for one thing-- we felt totally rushed through our meal by the server. I thought it was only because we didn't have cocktails/wine but seeing her three times visit a table near us and ask if they were ready to order--and they had not been there long... and they had cocktails and were contemplating wine... I know it wasn't just me. We aren't slow to order but even we needed to ask for more time to look at the menu! And just after our dessert arrived our check was delivered to the table like we were at a diner! And while they were busy they weren't swamped and desperate to flip tables. Annoying. Fortunately our courses arrived at a reasonable pace despite the server. The food was excellent and the restaurant has a great over the top decor just like the rest of the place. So, it was fun! We definitely enjoyed it even more than the steak place there which was ok but nothing special. We loved the calamari. Very fresh and crispy. My cannelloni with wild mushrooms was so good. It was lightly crisped by the oven and topped with some fresh ricotta. So good! And the blood orange and lemon gelato we had was excellent. Without question the best dinner we had at the Greenbrier Resort during our last stay. From the moment we walked in the staff was warm and exceptional and truly took pride in ensuring that we knew we were staying at America's Resort. We started with the calamari which was OUTSTANDING. Who knew that in the hills of West Virginia we would find one of the best fried calamari dishes? The pizza was perfect. There isn't one thing we could think of changing. We're suckers for traditional pepperoni and truly believe that if you can master this classic then that's something. The pizza was a perfect ratio of crust, cheese, and pepperoni. And now for the grand finale--the tiramisu. Heaven. This dish fell out of heaven. First of all, we've never encountered a tiramisu this decadent and LARGE. It easily can feed four people but because it's vacation time, we easily obliged to finish the entire thing ourselves. Honestly, you could go to the Forum just for dessert and coffee. I really didn't want to have to do this, but I need to in order to make sure people are safe eating here... A couple nights ago, I took my two kids to dinner at The Forum. I had the Tuna entree and split the octopus appetizer with the kids. I thought both of these were actually pretty good. Pricey, but overall good flavor and cooked right. My kids each had the kids spaghetti and meatballs. It's just the right portion for the kids. Pretty simple... spaghetti pasta, marinara sauce, and one very big meatball on top. The kids ate their food pretty quickly, they were hungry after waiting nearly an hour for their food to come out. I ended up eating some of the pasta and marinara but did not eat the meatball. The food was lukewarm and at the time didn't think much of it... until the next day. About 12 hours after dinner, the following morning my son said his tummy hurt and he ended up vomiting pretty badly. Sadly, we had several activities at The Greenbrier planned and one more night of our stay. I had to cancel everything and leave a day early to tend to my sick son. It was on the drive home when my daughter then violently threw up that I really started to wonder they may have gotten food poisoning from meatball that wasn't properly prepared and/or heated all the way in the middle. After vomiting, both my kids quickly got their appetite back and were back to normal within hours. It was like nothing happened. I called the manager on duty immediately after processing what happened. She asked for my info and said the chef/manager at the forum may call me back, after following up with the kitchen team. I still haven't heard back. Didn't get an apology. And worst of all, because of the food poisoning my kids got from the Forum, I had to forfeit $397 for the final day of my stay. Overall, I'm glad my kids are safe and fine, but I need you to know.... If you are reading this and you decide to go to The Forum at The Greenbrier... please please please make sure your food is safe to eat. If it takes a long time for it to come out of the kitchen, just make sure it's hot and throughly cooked--especially if you are getting anything with the big meatball on it. It's very easy for restaurants to unintentionally let bacteria grow after storing prepped meatballs and not thoroughly cooking/heating it to AT LEAST 160 degrees inside. Anything less than that is danger zone for bacteria. And you can get one of 2-3 strands of bacteria that will cause food poisoning within 6-12 hours of consumption. read more

Meatballs were a combo of beef and pork, very heavy with lots of flavor. Chicken Parm looked run of the mill. The wood fired pizzas smelled incredible but we did not order. Our recent dinner at The Forum was awful. The prices were not unreasonable if the meals had met expectations. The veal Marsala was like chewing a spare tire (I'm guessing because I have never chewed a tire). It had no flavor and the first few bites almost inspired me to try and blow a bubble. The Chicken Parm was just not good. I am not sure how you fail at a basic like Chicken Parm but WOW what an epic failure. The grilled salmon was ok. Had the sea bass which very decent, fish piece is a little small but overall the taste is good. Complimentary bread is hot when it came out. Service is none existing only saw the waiter three times, serving bread, taking order and getting check. With 20% service charge already added to the bill. The Geeenbrier resort generally has some service issues and The Forum is a microcosm of the larger issue. Prices are high, mandatory service fees of 20% are tacked on to anything and as a result, the incentive to serve or provide even mediocre service seems to be lacking everywhere. While we had poor service in almost restaurant and bar at the resort, it was probably the worst at The Forum. Warm wine was served. Bread appeared after our $30 entrees were delivered. A birthday dessert was delivered on what appeared to be a plate used for various diners before us. The dessert was also newly unfrozen and/ or stale to the point of being almost inedible. There was a general attitude of no fucks to give anywhere. So, it wasn't worth complaining as it seems on par with other reviews here. Disappointing but the reviews were correct. Had the Shrimp pasta dish, the shrimp was rubber. The bolognese looked like dog food. The $50+ dollar steak was a glorified hockey puck. The $25 dollar bottle of wine we bought earlier at the gas station was $80. The chicken parm was not worth $35. Like everything at the beautiful Greenbrier Resort, The Forum is very overpriced, but the food was very good. The restaurant is located off the back entrance of the hotel towards the spa, so it doesn't require much navigating to find and is fully wheelchair accessible. The decor is lovely, albeit a bit cheesy, with murals of Italy and checkered table cloths. Our server was very pleasant, but unfortunately knocked an entire glass of wine after taking our food orders. I was soaked from chest to lap, but it was an accident that could happen to anyone. The server apologized profusely and the manager switched my party to a clean table to refresh the linens, but I thought it was in poor taste that my companion, whose drink was spilled, had her future drinks taken off the bill rather than mine, considering I was the person who sat through my meal in a wet shirt and pants. We did however also receive a free dessert for the table, which I enjoyed from the spoonful I had. For my meal I had the chicken parmesan with spaghetti. It was a very generous portion, two large chicken breasts with a bit helping of pasta, and while not the best I ever had, it was delicious. The sauce was flavorful and the chicken was juicy and tender. I would recommend they cook their pasta for a touch longer, as it was more on the hard side of al dente than I would have preferred. My companions also had the chicken parmesan, as well a light salmon dish and a personal pizza, all of which were complimented and enjoyed. The free dessert we ordered was the "tiramisu for two" which really could have served six! It was beautifully presented, and my happily companions at all they could but of course couldn't finish the massive dessert. I'm not much of a sweets person and was full from my entree, but my spoonful was rich, creamy, and well soaked in espresso, as a tiramisu should be. We decided to order a bottle of wine and asked our waiter for more information about one that we had noticed, but he didn't really understand what we were asking and just wrote down the bottle #. We found out later that they have a sommelier on staff so I wish he had just sent her over. Our waiter recommended the parmigianas so we went with chicken parm, fried mozzarella, and meatballs. We ordered several pizzas for our large group to take out. We got: Cheese, pepperoni, mushroom and meatball, and lobster. I had a piece of the first two (cheese and pepperoni). And then had a third piece of the mushroom where I gave the meatballs to a friend. All three were really good. The mushrooms were fresh. The pepperoni thinly sliced. The hostess looked like it would bother her to seat us without a reservation and placed at a table for two next to the bar and kitchen door. We got there at approximately 7:00. We sat down and after several minutes the waitress came to the table. We ordered drinks and then she came back and we ordered dinner. I had the pork chop with palenta and he had the lasagna. The restaurant had a number of people there but by no means was it full. There were two large tables next to us that were empty plus the bar was emptying out. The table for two that we had asked about and were told it was for a reservation remained empty as well. I had a phone call from a friend while we where there so I know exactly how long it took to get our food. His salad arrived 30 minutes after we had ordered it and it was wilted. He was well finished with that and we sat and waited. He had another drink that took at least 10 minutes to get. Still no food. Our food finally arrived at 7:54 when we had ordered it at 7:08. Thankfully my pork chop was yummy and he liked his lasagna. No want came by and said can we get you anything. No one said we are sorry it is taking so long for your food to come out. Nada! We had stuffed peppers and four cheese pizza (with added red sauce is a must) with the chocolate pistachio gelato afterwards was amazing. All the staff was super friendly, one was from Poland who only been here a week who was very nice and helpful. Of course 20% gratuity is added to the bill, like any place here at the greenbrier. No / low effort to make it properly... soaking the lady fingers and using good quality ingredients. Recommend to remove this from the menu vs the low effort mess. Disappointed this trip.... The quality of the food was that of Little Caesars (think cardboard). It was $4 to add one topping to the large pizza.
