We've eaten here numerous times over three years--breakfast, lunch and dinner. The staff is always friendly. Yes, during the busy season it can be busy and slow because it's at ground zero of the ski resort. If you go when it's not so crowded the service is faster. The food has always been good. I never had a bad meal here. Today we had breakfast. For 12 dollars you get eggs, French toast, ham, potatoes and toast, a totally fair price for a resort restaurant. There are a variety of other options too. We had the ribs for dinner and it was enough to feed two. We also liked the crab dip and farmers salad. read more

We had breakfast, lunch, and dinner at The Foundry. Great meal every time. The breakfast buffet was a good size and reasonably priced. Loved the waffle flavor. For lunch we had the Jay burger and the chicken & brie sandwich. Both excellent. Chicken & Brie sandwich was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. The fries were a perfect crispness too. We sat at the bar for dinner. Rob, the bartender, made us fantastic raspberry margaritas. He was attentive, friendly, and gave great food recommendations. The sweet and spicy wings were heavenly. Salad was okay, lettuce was just a tad wilty. The shaved prime rib sandwich (called the Forge or something) was super yummy. Overall, every meal was great and we'd definitely come back next season. Overall pretty good; the drinks we got beer for me, wine for my wife were good and decently priced. The poutine was pretty good; just had to add a little salt. I got the steak au-poivre and while over-cooked it had really great flavor and the finerlings with carrots and veggies were really good. My wife got the prime-rib sandwich and it was really nicely sized with good flavor.. Service did seem to be lacking when it started to get more busy but at least we had our food by then. The food is acceptable. The management, hostess, and wait staff are not. They simply have no idea what they are doing. The hostess is never (we came in several times, different nights) at the front, actually hostessing. She had no idea what the wait time would be. When we did show up to an empty restaurant it still took over 10 minutes to be seated, as the hostess gathered menus, wandered around, and generally was not at the front. The waitress was friendly, but failed to keep our drinks full at least 5 times. We waited over 20 minutes for our check (in a mostly empty restaurant, with a dozen people waiting at the front, apparently as confused as we were at the lack of Hostess. One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Save the time and make your own food, or get food anywhere else. read more

Menu looked good at first glance and had us intreagued. Ordered a beer came out with no head on it aka it had been sitting out so long that it lost its head. Once the food came out, the fries were cold, the medium-rare burger was maybe rare at best. When the stirfry came out it wasn't hot and the flavor was frankly slimy. The only good part of the meal was the Heinz ketchup. The service was slow, unorganized, and all around terrible. I would never eat here again. read more

One star is much too generous...had breakfast this morning after a 8 am hockey game. Had to wait for 25 minutes even though there were several empty tables. After sitting down it took 35 minutes until we ordered. The non-social wait staff never came by to refill coffee cups and water glasses. We should of left then because it only got worse. The wait staff was too busy being ridiculed by other unhappy customers. Our breakfast finally arrived and I must say Alpo smells and looks better than the slop they brought over to the table! The ice cold corned beef hash never hit the grill...it was scooped cold into the plate with the worst scrambled eggs one can imagine (how the hell does a person ruin scrambled eggs?) the bacon was soggy and cold..the English muffin was never near the toaster...I still cannot believe the audacity of the wait staff & two cooks...how can they possibly serve this? A giant waste of $75.00! I stopped by three other tables to chat after paying the bill and they were also in shock! It is by far the worst slop one could ever be served! If you have come to Jay to ski, don't eat here. If you've come to loose weight this is the place. Two hours after a very mediocre flavorless meal, it was back with a vengeance. Not my idea of a body cleanse. The other entray served at our table was a 24 dollar chicken dish The meat was so over cooked it couldn't be cut with a steak knife. We stood 15 minutes waiting for a host to seat us (party of 4) while the bartender continued to ignore us. I finally asked if we can seat ourselves. We should have walked out while we had the chance....this place was not worth the $$$. Everything was bland and tasted the same for each dish!! Don't bother ordering the pork belly..it was under cooked. It was literally one piece of tasteless pork belly one inch by one for $16 dollars. So there were were, seconds away from a mid afternoon meltdown, rushing in to place a to-go order and get her safely back to the hotel room before her head exploded. With panic in my eyes, I rushed to the empty hostess stand, searching furiously for anyone to help us. A bored looking, middle aged woman sauntered slowly over and started reaching for menus. I explained with a rueful smile that we did not think our small human would be conducive to a pleasant dining experience, and asked to place an order to take back with us. She immediately dismissed us with "Oh, I can't help you with that, you'll have to go to the bar." Umm, okay. We stood at the bar several minutes, as our toddler re-enacted scenes from The Exorcist before the bartender could pause her conversation long enough to tell us she could not possibly take our order because it would make her late for leaving for her other job. Then she proceeded to jabber more with her friends before another uninterested looking young man was called at to help us out. Once he realized that my previously friendly demeanor was quickly turning murderous, and I was not letting him get away, agreed to take our order. The time was 4:23. I put in requests for sandwiches that could only be made once the clock struck 5. He actually looked gleeful when he told me there was nothing he could do about my order because they were still "in lunch." "Then wait 47 minutes to put in the order for all I care!" I said, now clearly ticked off. Fine. He turned to leave. "Do you want us to pay?" I called after him. "Oh, uh, you can pay later, you know." "No" I replied, "Now." The Food: The Toddler/monster-alien sometimes inhabiting her body expressed satisfaction with her chicken fingers and fries via the lack of leftovers on her plate. Turkey sandwich- "It certainly wasn't lovingly prepared, but you can't really arse up a turkey sandwich, can you?" -Husband Chicken/brie sandwich- Their first attempt had a piece of grey chicken on the side of an untoasted bun with a bit of brie and rind that had missed the chicken and bun almost completely. It was supposed to have roasted red pepper and garlic coulis, bacon, and garnish (lettuce, tomato, onion) on the side. Nada. I called down to the restaurant to be asked, "Well what do you want me to do about it?" I thought a completely prepared sandwich might be nice, and I was promised one would be ready for me in another 15 minutes. This was going to get a one star review, but the hostess (different from the first) was truly apologetic and had me check the sandwich in front of her before I left to make sure it was what I was expecting. Even the "real" sandwich wasn't stellar, but at least it had all of the advertised ingredients. So, in a nutshell, "okay" food, terrible service. read more

Underwhelming food at inflated prices. The poutine is not a traditional one, more the Americanized- version with melted cheese rather than curds and a chicken gravy more than a beef. Not bad, just FYI in case you are expecting traditional Canadian poutine. Great farm salad, with yummy balsamic dressing. I had the scallop special, asparagus was inedible, a clump of plain sticky rice, and the scallops were a little undercooked and translucent. I ended up finishing my daughters left over chicken fingers, they were pretty good but hard to mess up fried chicken. We also had a spicy shrimp flatbread which was greasy and mixed spicy peppers and cilantro in overwhelming doses. The menu looked delicious.. Perhaps better to stick with the sandwiches next time if we ever return. read more

Good service , attentive and pleasant staff. Can't say the same about the food. I ordered their flat bread ( which is like a pizza but a better version) and was misinformed about the ingredients. There we're supposedly be portobello mushrooms but turned out to be the bottom , which made the dish taste completely different . Had I know I wouldn't have ordered. For my entree I had the BBQ pork ribs. The meat wasn't super tender and wouldn't come off the bones easily but I have to note that the vegetarian slow ( which comes with it ) was exceptional ( chef's special recipe that he won't share with anybody else ). This place wins because of its location( right at the foot of the mountain) and a great view. read more

Stayed at the new Hotel Jay at The Jay Peak Resort. The Foundry is the nicest place to eat in the new hotel. The other option is Mountain Dick's Pizza. The Foundry overlooks the slopes and has a nice, contemporary decor and a varied menu with pasta, steak, chicken, fish, pizza etc. There is also an "apres menu" that offers sandwiches, brick oven pizzas and burgers. One poor decision The Foundry has made, is to limit the "apres menu" to the bar and high top tables, which run around the corner to the regular dinning room. Since there is no truly separate bar area in this open area restaurant, it seems crazy to restrict the menu between tables across an aisle. We ate breakfast here and dinner and the food was excellent. The breakfast menu items were a good value like two eggs any style with bacon or sausage, home fries and toast for $7.00. The buffet was not such a great deal at $15.00. Dinner was very good, I had a rib eye, my kids had pasta bolognese and a brick oven pizza after pushing our hostess to order off the "apres menu". Overall a good start to a new spot at Jay Peak, we will return. read more

So for starters the hostess greeted us and asked us how many and if we had reservations, when we replied 11 and no we didn't have reservations she said well we have a table reserved for 6:30pm, so we'll need you guys done by 6:15pm. Although the hostess was rude we decided to still go ahead and hope our experience dinning would be better but we were wrong. The waitress was dumb as a door knob, messed up one of our orders and insisted that we ordered the fried chicken and not pizza, when we were sure of what we ordered. She then proceeded to bring a side of corn bread out half way through our meal. When asked what were those for she said "I don't know I was told to bring them out, I think it goes with one of your dinners". She didn't know the prices of the specials when asked she told us $26 and when we actually received the bill it was $28 for the dish. The food wasn't even great, we paid $28 dollars for the special pasta with calamari we had barely any calamari on the plate and it tasted bland. Half way through our dinner we noticed the other tables around us received dinner rolls before their dinner and we didn't get even one basket to divide between the 11 of us. It was probably the worst service we have ever had and most defiantly would not go back.Save your time and money check out the Tower Bar or Dick's Pizzeria instead! read more
