I haven't gone to The Fountain spa. I'm just writing to thank everyone who posted a review. I was GOING to buy a gift certificate to the spa today but based on the horrible reviews that were written I am going elsewhere!!! I would never go this this establishment again. The customer service there is horrendous! The young woman(who looks about 18) at the front desk could not explain to me what any of the body treatments were. She works at the spa and lacks knowledge of any of the services, how ridiculous! They clearly do not hire knowledgable staff. I walked in to make an appointment and the body scrub was a joke! It is suppose to last 50 minutes (although the girl from the front desk told me 60 min! go figure!), they only spent a few minutes (5 mins at most) applying (not massaging) the exfoliant to my body. I've had better scrubs at a nail salon and getting a $20/$25 pedicure, where they actually massage the exfoliant into your skin! For a majority of the time I spent laying wrapped up in a heated blanket and showering off the scrub for what felt like 30 min. The remainder of the time, they applied a cream for a few mins and the session was over . I was expecting a relaxing, hands on, soothing service, but clearly didn't get that. Having the scrub massaged would have been nice. The scrub was certainly not worth $98. (I also paid $20 for a upgrade lymphatic drainage cream which is a total waste!) In addition, I was set up with a male staff member, which they did not tell me when I made the appointment! It was very awkward and I was uncomfortable. (Please note: You wear disposable underwear while receiving the treatment so not for the modest especially if you get a male employee!) I didn't find the ambience that intimate or relaxing either. Their lounge is just a big communal room with a bunch of seats, with a lot of people sitting around. The bathroom lacks basic products that you'd expect in a spa, especially for the prices they are charging. I did't see anything besides one body of lotion there, and I was told and also read on a sign if I need bath products, to ask them. I'm scared to see what they would offer after reading a review about their suave products! And I did see a lysol air freshener in the bathroom stall, how elegant lol. Clearly this place is overpriced and I would not recommend it to anyone! I rather go to a more expensive spa in the city, where you get the treatment that you pay for and deserve in a luxurious, tranquil environment. Try Townhouse Spa in the city! I am very disappointed in this establishment. I was a regular that enjoyed my time at the spa although the massage was a 7/10. I went from 60 minutes to 90 and then to 2 hours. For the two hours they either stop to take a break or charge you extra because two hours here is really about 45 + 45. It is apparent that they try to nickel and dime you which is not a good feeling. I would expect more from a high-end spa. Because the facility is impressive, I decided that it would be a great gift for our admin. She went for the Microdermabrasion which she was not happy with the service and how they charged her extra for services that were supposed to be included. I call the owner but she did not care enough to return my call. I guess all good things come to an end. The fountain is not longer worth the $$$ they demand and can't be trusted. sad :( read more

I had a great experience here. I had a whirlpool, massage followed by a facial. All were great my skin was glowing after the facial. I would def come back, I feel the week days might be a little more tranquil bc saturday it was pretty crowded, but I expected that bc so many people are off on weekends. read more

I received a gift certificate which was my primary reason for going to the Fountain. I've checked out the website in the past and after sticker shock knew it was somewhere I'd definitely love to check out preferably on someone else's dime. So yesterday I went for a couples massage and was really pleased with everything. The staff was attentive and pleasant from the minute we walked in until we left. The grounds are very clean never once was I skeeved by the locker room which is a major plus for me. Im easily grossed out. I was able to get a steam in before and after my massage which I thought was nice. Both our masseuses (is that the plural?) were friendly and thorough. I basically fell asleep on the table. Great massage and totally therapeutic. They have a great little lounge where you can sit before and after to enjoy assorted drinks, cookies and muffins. The locker rooms are fully stocked with toiletries and the showers are incredible. Would love to go back again soon. read more

I loved this place for a really long time and it was the ONLY place I would go to, but they must have changed management or something because they were VERY shady the last 3(!!!) times I was there. The last 3 times I was there they billed me a certain price. I paid the bill (charged it to my Amex) and then left. The first time they called me to tell me that they undercharged me and they had to add a treatment to the bill that they forgot to add. Okay, fine. Stuff happens. I told them it was fine. I had never had the problem before. The next time I went with my mother and I made sure to tell them that I am adding a service and to please not to forget to add it to the bill since last time they forgot to add it. They assured me it was okay. I get the extra service. Ask them again at check out if they added it to the bill. They say they did. Get a phone call an hour later about how they undercharged me due to a problem with their register. I told them it was the second time they did this and I asked them if they had charged me before I left. I also told them that I don't like things being charged to my card if I have already left the spa. They apologized and said they were sorry. I had a feeling they would have taken the extra money out of the technician who gave me my mani/pedi so I agreed for them to charge it. But I'll tell you, I didn't like that one bit. My mother convinced me to go back ONE more time, because at this point, I thought they were shady. We go, I get my mani/pedi. Great service. I remind the lady at the register twice to look over the bill. She assures me that all is fine. I tell her about my last two experiences. She apologizes and tells me that it will be fine. Three days later I look at my Amex bill. This time they added an extra charge to my card AND my mother's card without even notifying us! I was pissed and when I called the lady at the front desk, she had the NERVE to get an attitude and she said, "You had the service, you should expect to pay for it!" I told her that I asked before I left if the bill was correct and I don't understand how they keep charging my bill after I walk out of the spa. I didn't sneak out. If they screwed up the bill, that shouldn't be my problem and there is NO way they should be able to bill my card after I only signed for a certain price. I didn't notify American Express because I felt they were going to take it out on the technician and it wasn't her fault, but I swear I'll never go back and I was a faithful customer for years. read more

My first and last experience at the Fountain Spa --- I was told this was the nicest spa in the area having recently moved from NYC ... I didnt have super high expectations given the spa is located in a mall ... but my expectations weren't low enough and I wont be back. The facility was crowded (there was a wait for a shower), the robes were not soft, the relaxation room was not relaxing (unless you enjoy looking at overweight men in bathrobes parading around and being able to catch a glimpse of the mall parking garage from stained club chairs (no lounge chairs or soft blankets to be found)). The refreshments included generic tea (ie lipton) and muffins/cookies (who eats muffins before a massage ... no signs of almonds or fruit). The room I was in for my massage was medical office like, no nice fragrances or candles ... and the massage oil felt like vegetable oil ... I couldnt get out of their fast enough to get home to my own shower to cleanse myself of the place and experience. read more

I went to the Fountain Spa for the first time for a facial. I wasn't expecting much because of the mediocre reviews I read, but I went because I had a gift certificate. I was so pleasantly surprised. The place is larger than I expected, it was clean, they use quality products, and had everything you can expect for a Bergen County spa. Nothing extraordinary but it's not bad like some of the reviews. The best part and most importantly was my aesthetician , Tina. She was awesome. She listens to you and focuses on your skin care concerns. She is the first aesthetician in Bergen County that I found to be good at extractions. She is knowledgable and professional. I am grateful for the girl who made my appointment, that recommended Tina. Based on the reviews, there weren't any specific aestheticians that were mentioned, so I'm glad I took the time to ask. I will go back to the spa because of Tina. The only reason why this place doesn't get 5 stars is because of the lack of amenities. In my opinion, the spas at resorts where they have a pool, sauna, lounging area, etc are 5 star facilities. But for Bergen County, it's worth a visit. read more

BEWARE. They have some very kind massage therapists, but it is luck of the draw on whether you get one who matches your preferences in terms of massage technique. If you get a therapist who doesn't match your needs you are sh*t out of luck. The front end managers are rude, greedy and won't do much to resolve your issue. This place (Riverside location) is a low level ripoff that pretends to be classy. They don't know how to respond properly to customer complaints. I was taken aback by the lack of professionalism from a place that presents itself as being so elegant. I get at least two massages per week (all different massage styles, light and firm pressure depending on my needs, at upscale places, regular beauty salons, solo practitioners, medical type offices as well as massage institutes, etc.) so I consider myself to be fairly familiar with what a customer is entitled to expect at a massage, especially from a place that touts itself as being as upscale as The Fountain. My massage recently at the Riverside Square location of The Fountain was the worst massage experience I have ever had. By the end, I was way more stressed than before the massage. The 20 minute chair massage that I had last week at a nail salon was more relaxing, focused, intense, and a fraction of the price. When booking the appointment and again upon arrival I emphasized that I needed a therapist who used very firm pressure due to special problem areas of my back that need to be worked on. The therapist that I ended up with was unable to apply very firm pressure, and stated that she preferred not to do firm pressure massages. She was as puzzled as I was about why they assigned her to me. She was really nice and would have been fine for someone who wanted light pressure, but I was clear and specific in my request for firm pressure due to my back condition. The bottom line is she never should have been assigned to me. Once the massage was underway and it became clear that it was not working out, the therapist tried to resolve the issue by leaving for several minutes to locate a different masseuse. I got way less than the 50 minutes of table time that I was suppose to. The actual hands on table time that I got was disjointed, not continuous, involved lots of conversation about what was wrong with the pressure and certainly were not as relaxing as the approximately $100 service that I signed up for. As I exited the massage room on my way to bring the issue up with the front desk, other therapists were in the hallway chatting about how the front desk personnel screwed up by not honoring my request for a therapist who could give firm pressure. They said that I should be comp'd a free service. However, the front management personnel were cold, unprofessional and cheap about offering any resolution or apology. Ultimately they gave me a token discount, expressed a half-hearted lukewarm sentiment way short of an apology, and gave me a coupon for a minor future discount (as if I would ever waste my time or money or anyone else's at this place again). Their position was that clients and therapists don't always match up and that's just the way it goes. That, in my view, is not the proper approach for a business that prides itself in pampering and relaxation. If it doesn't work out, they should take responsibility, stand behind their product and make sure that every client has a first class experience. I've rarely had problems at any other massage salon or therapist. But at most other places, if the customer does not have a good session they will try to work with the customer to address the concerns, offer more table time right away or just comp. the service altogether. The front desk personnel were totally unprofessional and self righteous. Incidentally, someone is planning a $20,000 spa weekend for about 50 guests and had tentatively selected The Fountain Riverside. After my experience she has now decided to host it elsewhere. I will be sure to tell my girlfriends and whoever else I can about my experience so no one else will be ripped off by them. Go somewhere else or at least to the Ramsey Fountain location which is slightly better! Woodhouse Spa in Montclair is wonderful, and I look forward to my massage at DePasquale in Morris Plains in a few days. Both are excellent and put The Fountain to shame. Skip this place! I've tried almost all of the other spas in northern New Jersey and this was by far the worst. read more

it was the worse massage EVER!!!! I had a horrible terrible un relaxing experience and now in retrospect I am so glad that I have announced it to the world!!! and the more I told everyone at work that saw my BRUISES and at the gym who saw my BRUISES from this horrible chatty untrained unprofessional masseur more people have also told me that they also feel that the Fountain is not what it used to be anymore. I do not recommend anyone under the age of 65 to come here. I just spent double at Bliss but it was so worth every dollar!!! read more

Would love to know who stole my beautiful diamond necklace and bracelet from the ladies locker room. I honestly cannot imagine another woman taking such valuable jewelry from another woman. The emotional connection we all have to jewelry far outweighs the montary value. Love this place! Go here for consistently good massages and facials. I have been to several places in New York City and I believe the fountain is the best bang for your buck. It's not cheap but definitely cheaper than the higher end nyc places. The quality however is just as good or better. read more

I have been to fountain now 3 times. The first time was exceptional, however the second time I was less than thrilled with my massage. But I think that was more the fault of the massage therapist more so than the spa. She seemed uninterested in being polite and I felt the massage was rushed. The place is clean, has a nice sauna to start off your treatments and I have always been treated courteously. The last time I went was fantastic. I had a heavenly floatation wrap that was one of the most relaxing spa treatments I have ever had. I also had a facial that was spectacular. It was difficult to find the place because of the construction, when I tried to call the front desk to ask how to find the entrance, you can barely hear the recording to even pick an option. I had the same problem with the recording being so quiet when I booked the appointment originally. When I finally found the spa, I felt it was completely an unpersonalized experience. After giving my name and that I was using a gift certificate, the girl told me to proceed to the next desk but didn't tell me where that was and there was no one at the second desk when I arrived. Once being showed the female changing room and changing, I went to the 'relaxation room'. It felt more like an executive meeting location in a hotel that men and women shared in robes vs. being a place you could really relax. I had a mother-to-be massage which was fine although I wish she would have asked how the pressure was because I would have told her I wanted more pressure. My massage was only about 40 minutes vs. 60 minutes. Overall, not a great experience that you get at a smaller, more intimate spa. Wouldn't go back. read more

I have recently visited the Fountain Spa in Hackensack, New Jersey for a Rejuvenation Spa Package, and came out absolutely disappointed with the whole experience. The treatment was less than par, and the front desk staff were the worst I have EVER experienced. I had made a reservation on Friday the 7th of September for a spa treatment for two on the 11th of September. The lady on the phone had said that if I needed to change my reservation, then it had to be done before 6:00pm Sunday. Well, I had to change to a regular facial appointment, therefore, I had called at 4:00pm Sunday afternoon to switch the treatment that was to be performed on the 11th. When I arrived with my friend ready to relax on the 11th of September, the Fountain Spa said that I had never changed my reservation from the original. Not wanting to make waves, We decided to go ahead with the treatment. After the first half of the spa treatment, we were waiting in the lounge to be called for our second treatment which was the facial. 10 minutes had passed, and no one came for us!!. Not knowing what to expect, we headed for the front desk, and asked what had happened. At this point, the lady behind the desk, said that we only had a massage reservation NOW.(no facial!!!) Are you guys kidding me?? One minute, the front reservationist says that we have a package reservation, and next minute we don't . Any relaxed feeling that we had, all disappeared when these SO CALLED reservationist had SCREWED EVERYTHING UP. On top of that, she had the nerve to offer us 20% off on our next spa treatment. WHY WOULD WE EVER GO BACK TO THAT DUMB ENVIRONMENT. NOTHING RELAXING ABOUT DEALING WITH IDIOT STAFFS. On the last note, the towel ladies were exceptional!!!.. That was the best part of the spa experience. My Four Kids go to a prestigious independent school near by, and I will be sure to let all the ladies of our school know how dumb this experience was!!! read more

The Fountain Spa is an oasis in the middle of Mall land! We had a group spa day and they were accommodating and lovely! The place is immaculate and the service offerings are diverse. All of our technicians were excellent (and we had 8 different ones!). Easy to get to from the city and northern jersey. Such a great place! read more

Never Disappoints! I keep going back for the most amazing facials. I love going early and sitting in the tranquillity room with cup of tea and some fresh fruit, away from it all, no phone etc.! I usually get a microdermabrasion and stay make up free until the next am. Its a real treat, enjoy the steam and shower area also. read more

My experience at this spa was very disappointing. You think because you pay top dollar that there would be masseurs that were better trained and front desk service with proper customer service skills. This is unfortunately not the case. You pay an outrageous price for a massage (extra for deep tissue!!), an hour massage is actually only 50 minutes, and the masseur I had did not apply any more pressure than a normal Swedish massage even when I asked for harder pressure. I arrived 5 min late because I couldn't find the place (it appears to be located to the far right entrance because there is a huge "the fountain spa" portion with no door but it is actually located on the other side of the mall and downstairs). There was only one woman working the desk and was busy with a phone call so I had to wait a few more minutes. She offered me to take the next appointment at 10am so I didn't have to rush but she reassured me I wouldn't lose any time off my 9am massage if I rushed in to changing room so I did. Well, long story short my massage was 35 minutes and I paid $120 plus tip for a short under-pressured massage, two mini muffins, a banana, and a cup of tea. This place is pathetic! Never a call of apology or reply ever came from this establishment for the theft of my 3 rings (engagement, wedding & anniversary ring)! An employee stole them, and management never did anything to try and make things right. They completely ignored the incident. read more

I just returned from a deluxe couple treatment .. The whirlpool was a great experience . But my massage was so disappointing .. I have been to this location many times before and have experienced great massages , but this time I had a masseuse named Debbie ... She rushed through my massage like she could not wait to get me off of her table .., it was a stressful and Not relaxing., which was disappointing due to the overall cost of the experience .. I have tried several different facials and have been pleased with all of them and especially the therapist Bosia. She does a great job in addition to being very polite and friendly. It does get a bit costly; but when asked by family what I would like for a present , I usually request a spa gift certificate. read more

The place is nice, and the tranquility room is peaceful but my best friend and I came here for a girl's spa day and were both extremely disappointed with our massages. Our masseuses were Debbie and Marissa. We both said they were just extremely average/below average. For the price, I Would have expected much better quality massages. Will not be back. read more

I've been to the Fountain a number of times, and have never had a bad massage. I've had a range of good to excellent, with Renato working the most on my knots and sore spots. It's a lovely way to treat yourself or to spend some time with friends before and after in the Tranquility Room. read more

i had once done a microdermabrasion treatment and either they didn't do it properly or i had a bad reaction because my face had little cuts the next morning. i called and complained and they sorta begrudgingly gave me a full refund. customer service is really not great here but for the money you're spending especially in NJ, i would think it should be better. what annoyed me is that on their website, they talk about a COMPLEMENTARY whirlpool bath with a treatment, but it's not complementary--it's actually $20 dollars to sit in a jacuzzi and they only let you do it for 30 mins. really annoying and false advertisement. maybe i'll report to BBB. i can only speak for the hackensack location when i say it's really quite mediocre. the place is really nice and pristine but depending on who's doing your facial or massage, it's really hit or miss. read more

Just spent the best two hours at The Fountain Spa. I really needed a massage, was very charlie horse from a hard workout two days ago and my husband suggested a deep tissue massage would help. It sure did and it was a great experience. Not only did Kerry Ann work magic on my sore legs and arms but the additional treat of a wonderful steam room, great showers and really thick absorbent towels topped off by a nice tea and treats at the Tranquility Room made for a wonderful afternoon. I have been to numerous spas throughout the US and the Caribbean and this spa is by far the worst. There were two representatives at the front check in and they were the most condescending and ill mannered. The older one in particular had no personally and no people/costumer service quality at all. My group made reservations for 5, upon getting there, they changed our reservation to 4. To make up, they asked if anyone in our party would settle with a mani and a pedi, which we opt for. Only she received her mani, but their according to the lady at check out, thier computer did not register a mani and a pedi, even after she waited over 40 minutes. I had the Deep sea paraffin wrap and add the lymphatic drainage. I have had this treatment a number of time, but at the fountain it was done in 30 mins. My entire treatment was done half a**ed. I honestly could have gone to Massage Envy, spend far less and got way better treatment. At the register while paying for our service, my family and I asked about the non pedi, and we were told they would look into. They actually ask for our numbers so they could call after they investigate. AKA- they already got paid for horrible service, so they are done with us. I can't even say it was only our group, as we were not the only people on the receiving end of their bad service. Though I will admit that it is a nice nice facility, I will not go back and I do not recommend it to anyone. Blows my mind that anyone could ever have anything positive to say about this dump. I could only assume that positive reviews would come from a person who has never stepped foot in a real relaxing, luxurious spa environment. My first point of contact at the front desk was rude, miserable, and compeltely unaccommodating - she actually might have been the Manager, which is even more shocking. I was rushed from the second I opened my mouth to "check in". My massage (which was supposed to be an hour) was actually about 30 minutes (if that!) By the time I walked/drove around the mall 200 times looking for ANY type of accurate signage, I walked in the door about 8 minutes late (not that big of a deal!) By the time I actually got in the massage room, after having to remind them that I specifically requsted a female, I was stressed and already wanting to leave. The "locker room" was gross and the sandals they give you to wear made me want to vomit. I was rushed through my massage and then sat in some weird room with 60 other people waiting for my next appointment.. after being there for 2 hours, I was disgsuted and disappointed (to say the least!) The bottom line is.. don't ever go to this spa. It was a waste of time/money. read more
