The contrived Pinterest-board presentation almost makes up for the complete lack of flavor. Almost. I ordered 7 items. The onion rings weren't seasoned. They weren't even salted. One of the fried green tomatoes was smaller than my thumbnail. I was genuinely excited to see how they'd incorporate Mediterranean flavors into a burger instead of just turning it into another chicken sandwich. I thought, I'm ready to be impressed. Show me how you're going to bridge a balsamic glaze into a burger & make it work. They didn't. It didn't work. It was trash. Apparently, the secret ingredient in everything I ordered was balsamic glaze. If I'd ordered 100 McDonald's chicken nuggets & put my own balsamic glaze on them, I would've had a better experience. The only thing I ordered that was actually seasoned was the steak fries. I paid an extra $10 for the entrée-sized portion, & those were genuinely tasty. I absolutely would not say they were worth $10, though. Great presentation. Terrible execution. read more

First time in four nine and for early bird hours this place was really starting to fill up. That says a lot. I had a mac and cheese wrap that had some spicy pork pieces and pretty great aioli! Server and host were great and the bartender made a really nice smoky Manhattan. Kids had Mac and cheese and a smash burger that was lovely and eaten pretty quick by both of them. Husband and I walked in on a Friday for dinner. We were seated at the bar as we did not have a reservation. We ordered their Mango flatbread for appetizer. It was ok. The flatbread seemed undercooked and it was hard to eat without getting stuff everywhere. We both ordered their pesto pasta. The flavor was underwhelming and the entree came with a salad that was served with the meal in teeny tiny bowls so when you tried to eat it everything spilled out onto the table. This was about our fourth time giving them a chance as we live close by. At this point we won't be back. Service was good though. I had never heard of this place before and it was recommended by a friend. HOLY COW. We will absolutely be back!!! My fiancé had the smash burger and couldn't wait long enough for me to get a picture, lol. He said it was delicious. Mine was absolutely divine, I had the brown sugar glazed bacon wrapped pork medallions with apple chutney and I was in heaven. The asparagus was soooo good, too, and the fries were nice and crispy. The bruschetta was out of this world, our toddler was even going crazy over it! She loved the tomatoes, lol. We had a side of mac n cheese for her so naturally I had to mom-tax it. WOW! The spiral noodles held the cheese sauce so well, and it was somehow the thickest yet creamiest cheese sauce I've ever had, and SOOOOOO flavorful!!! You can taste so many different cheeses in it. She ate it and enjoyed it, but honestly she was fiending over that bruschetta mainly. We cannot wait to go back and try more! Our server was amazing and always on top of checking in with us. A popular local restaurant expands into a new, roomy dining space next to the original establishment. Once they hammer out the kinks, I expect this will be just as good as the original! When in town for business, many locals mentioned FourNine as one of their top choices for dinner. The group was enticed by the menu, pictures on Yelp, and we decided this was our spot! Maps led us to--what we found out later--was the original location in a small building next to a newly constructed strip mall. We also found out, amiss the dining fiasco that followed, that the new location had only been open for FOUR DAYS. A short while after receiving our drinks and putting in our dinner order, the waitress stopped by and explained that the ovens/stoves had failed and asked for patience. We were a bit nervous, but we knew our appetizers were cold, so we decided to hold on. The waitress expressed, "We appreciate you!" :15 later we still did not have any of our appetizers and flagged our waitress down to ask about the status. She concluded again with, "We appreciate you!" About :05 later a pretzel came out, which we quickly devoured. Another :15 later, when we were about to leave, an order of bruschetta arrived; "We appreciate you!" The delivery of food continued like this for the next hour, all of us eating at different times, and every visit from our waitress concluded with a dismissive, "We appreciate you!" as she walked away. Two hours after sitting down...we finally concluded our dinner. Looking back on the experience a few days later, it's a bit of a blur to me. I even revisited the online menu and couldn't place what I'd ordered/ate. You may then ask, "Why four stars?" Several reasons: A) the food (once it arrived) was delicious, B) the manager personally came out to explain the kitchen situation, C) they accidentally made us another round of bruschetta; provided free of charge, and D) the manager comped several dishes on our bill and provided a gift card for our troubles. So in the end, would I go back to FourNine? In a few months, yes, I would most definitely revisit, and I recommend you do too. read more

Lived in Mt. Zion for several years and frequented the FourNine when it was still in the little old white house and saw it transition into the new building. Was back in town and excited to see they had added a dinner menu. Ordered the NY Strip medium rare. They delivered it well done. Sent it back. 2nd steak arrived medium well+. Had to look really hard to detect even the slightest hint of pink in it. Gave up and decided to suffer through it. Poorest quality cut of steak I have ever had, it was 50% gristle. Positive notes: The fried green tomatoes, bruschetta, and pretzel appetizers are still Excellent. Extreme buyers remorse on my part wishing I would have stuck with one of their tried and true handhelds. Would not recommend ordering steak off the dinner menu based on my experience. read more

My favorite dish here is the teriyaki wrap. I get it with chicken or salmon. Some of the dishes are too hot or garlicky for me, but there's plenty I can eat on the menu. A little on the pricey side. But we do eat here regularly. Good service too. read more

Weekday lunch. Atmosphere was good, service was okay, and food was really tasty. Charming decor. Menu has great offerings, but would love to see an off menu offering from the chef. maybe a daily fish special. I had the berry salad with added shrimp and it was absolutely delish! Cocktail was made expertly. Cute place. However, we were never offered water, and had a hard time flagging down our server once our meal came. The service wasn't bad, but they could improve on details, especially checking back after entrees were served. (I may have had a glass of wine, and definitely could have had a water with my meal). Pet peeve: plastic cups. Why??? Drinks came to table in large plastic cups. Why serve anything in plastic? Just tacky IMO. Invest in some nice heavy silverware, even if it's mismatched. It elevates the dining experience and easier to navigate a salad. I would definitely recommend this joint if you have time for a leisurely lunch. We'll be back on our next visit to town. read more

They were trying but we sampled 3 plates and an app and not impressed. Drinks were really good though. Fried green tomatoes could have been fried a little longer because the tomato was still a bit hard and not that hot and greasy. Hangover burger was good besides the layer of fries on the bottom with a slightly sweet sauce - Im personally not a fan of sweet savory usually, but my mom got waffles and meat and the syrup was real sugary and smothered at the bottom, wish one could put the syrup on themselves. I can't give it a 5 as the food was good but my sandwich was just lacking a bit of flavor. Fried green tomatoes are good but the normal sauce for this dish is so much better than the other options. Nice to have side options other than chips. Wait person was very good and efficient. Very good iced tea. It is a great space and much nicer than their old one. It is loud in the main room or you can sit in the heated patio. The patio wasn't too bad, but we sat by the heater. The wait staff changed at our table 4 times so it felt a bit odd. The service was good. We got one extra glass of water. The food is why I gave it three stars. While the description sounds wonderful and the photos look nice, there is no flavor. My wrap was tasteless. And lacked veggies. (I saw one piece of corn). The steak had no color and was cut in chucks, so if you take small bites like me, the chunks fall out as you eat the wrap. I had such high hopes because the thought of the wrap was really exciting. Their homemade chips are ok, but they didn't have any salt or seasoning in them. My husband was worried about the hot chicken. No need to worry. It was not Nashville hot. For wanting to try this place for the past year just to drive by many times when it was very busy, we felt let down. read more

I recently moved to Illinois from California and The FourNine was on my list of places to visit in my new neighborhood. I stopped in last Sunday and was instantly impressed by the cleanliness, atmosphere and friendly staff. At first glance, there were a few things that stood out as a touch of class to me, the lighting, paint and bar stools. The lighting paired with black paint on the walls/ceiling created a soft glow that was incredibly pleasing to the senses. The bar chairs were the definition of luxury! Like sitting in a Cadillac, the cushion was plush and the leather hugged your body in all the right places. I ordered the Bruschetta as a starter which was an absolute standout! The bread was perfectly toasted and remained soft in the center. The dish was a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity paired with ripe tomatoes and a fragrant glaze of balsamic and olive oil. I also ordered the Korean wrap with a side of fries, the portions were hearty and the flavors equally well balanced. The Hostess was welcoming with a genuine smile and the Bartender was knowledgeable and attentive, injecting humor with perfect comedic timing. Hello. Meet my new favorite place with a very large menu, craft beers and spirits if your into them. The place is not big, but the food we had was amazing. We had the Bruschetta for an appetizer. It was excellent. Not crispy, but warm and toasty. I had the party melt with battered fries and white cheddar cheese. Her the Shoni Shoe- with white cheddar. Small inside but I'm sure will expand soon. This place has a large selection of signature dishes. The staff was great. Very nice. Interact with them! This was a great find! Food was tasty with layered flavors in all the choices our table had! There were so many great menu options, it took our group awhile to decide what to try! Service was great - serving team was attentive but not overbearing. Very industrial but cool vibe type atmosphere. Would definitely recommend reservations during the weekend or in the evenings. We arrived about 11:30/11:45 am on a Saturday and they were about half full and had a lot of tables set up for reservations. By 12:30 pm they were full. Would highly recommend!!! read more

I was in town for work and The FourNine has great reviews. We were starving and the service started out great. We ordered an easy appetizer and dinner. Almost an hour later and not even the appetizer in sight. We asked the server and she kept saying it was coming out next. Minutes later we were watching other people's food come out but not ours. The other servers saw the expression on our faces and came to ask what we needed. Again we said we had waited an hour and no food (important for later). Everyone was apologetic. 10 minutes went by and our server came by again, we asked about the food and she apologized again and said "sorry you've had to wait so long , I can offer you all complimentary dessert". The food came and it tasted good. After we were done, we told the server we would take her up on those desserts. She gladly took our order. Minutes later the bar manager comes over and says "your server sent me over here to tell you that you can have 2 free desserts, not 4" We literally stood there stunned. How are you going to offer a customer something and then take it back? The bar manager said "sorry , the system only lets me do 2 desserts" Which is a lie. I've worked in customer service before and you can make anything happen really. It wasn't so much that it wasn't free but how rude and unprofessional they went about it. If I'm a server and I make the mistake, I am going to go out of my way to fix it and make it happen. This situation left a sour taste in my mouth, when I return to Decatur I will be going elsewhere read more

In the area for a business trip. After a few hours in the car, we made a stop here for dinner. Seated a 6:40 and did not receive our food until a little after 8:00 pm. Our waitress along with two others assured us it would be out shortly. While we watched tables who were seated after us receive their food, we began to get annoyed. Finally the food arrived and it was good. It's hard to say how good because we were so hungry and a bit tired by then. The waitress was apologetic and offered us dessert on the house. We thought that was a kind enough gesture and took her up on the offer. Then, the bar manager came by and said they could only accommodate two of the desserts and we would have to pay for the other two. Well, we weren't planning to order desserts and we were taking her up on the offer so none us accepted. The waitress came by after her manager broke the news to us to apologize and insisted she tried to get us desserts. Highly doubtful we will come here again. But for some reason it took almost an hour for our entrees to come. The service was outstanding! The gal running the place was everything you could have hoped for! They have a unique selection of bar drinks as well as the traditional go-to's. We had their charcuterie pretzel and OH MY HEAVENS was is divine! The pretzel was perfectly done and the fruits, meats & cheeses were just enough. We ordered burgers with homemade chips and the chips alone were worth our drive! The burgers (veggie & regular smash) were perfection! I recommend this place 10/10!
