The Fred is a small comfortable hotel. Front desk staff are great! Assisted me with help when dealing with a hopper booking. Every time I spoke with them, they were always pleasant and helpful. Hotel had nice little beach and a very nice pool - swam in both. Lounge chairs and tables through out.
I had a single room with a king size bed. My room was very comfortable and very clean. Although I ran to the store and picked up my own snacks and drinks, I did not use the little mini bar - no prices - I kinda like to know how much I'm paying for things. Room did have TV - but never used. Microwave and small frig (had mini bar items in and I just moved to make room for my items) and coffee pot. I did not get food at hotel. Only order at bar area (no restaurant) and short window to get food - closed at 3pm.
No fault of hotel but anybody that's been to St Croix realizes there are chickens and roosters running around all over the place. These roosters can start crowing at 3 o'clock in the morning.
Also my visit had a bit of unfortunate timing, the USS IWO JIMA who pulled into port and of course the sailors were enjoying themselves around town.
I'm a 60 yr old woman who is here for peace and quite - had business my first day then was supposed to be two days of relaxing, enjoy the area and play in the water. The Fred is supposed to have a STRICT 9 o'clock noise limit. Well the party went on way past 9 o'clock, reaching to almost 11pm.
For most people, it wouldn't have been an issue however the bed in my room faced the bar area and vulgar hip hop (not constant but enough) is not choice of relaxing music. Music was loud so voices were even louder.... I could hear conversations over the music. Earphones did not help.......
I am checking out a day early because the same thing will happen tonight. The one good thing is with weather issues in the United States on Saturday I was able to change my flights to Friday with no additional charge.
Again bad timing on my part cause the naval ships are not always here. The two cruise ships the day before left at night so that wasn't an issue. read more
