I've ate here a couple of times, and the food was good. Decided to take my family back tonight, my Son in law wanted a build the own burger add a patty with lettuce tomato mayo the server came back out the only way they could do that was to order a tower so that's what we did. It came out with the wrong toppings, told them it was wrong. Then they said you could not get the tower with that it only comes all the way. The owner told us it was be to much money, and to much food to add a patty to the build the own burger. After waiting just said okay, and got a single burger, my Son in law could have ate a double. Don't know how the owner knows how much money I can spend, or how much I can eat, it's not even that more expensive, and they don't know how much money I can afford. Made me feel like my family was stereotype. The food was good, but the service was really bad, and will not be going back. First went there on a Sat. at 11:40 we were told they don't serve lunch until 12. Facebook messaged the next day and was told they only are open until 1 and they only serve breakfast. We went back this Sat. after 12 for lunch. 1st thing I noticed is their hours posted on the door says breakfast ends at 11 on Sat. and they stay open until 2 Sunday so what we were told the previous Sat. was inaccurate or the sign was. We ordered two burgers with fries, an order of onion rings abd chicken tenders with fries and ohkra. We ordered the burgers mid-well. They had no pink in the middle, clearly not mid-well and the fries were soggy. They also were very expensive. The onion rings were phenomenal as were the chicken tenders. However the fries were also soggy with it and the ohkra had a strange smokey flavor. On a side note my wife and son both requested their fries crispy. Lastly our waitress was very inatentive. She was more concerned with another party and neglected to refill drinks and even allowed people waiting to be seated to wait a long time. All in all not a great experience. read more

Visited for lunch while in the area for business last week and this restaurant came up as the top choice in town. The building is large and easily accessible from highway. Plenty of parking and a drive through window to pick up your call in orders so you don't even have to get out of your car! I went inside to pick up my order and they had everything I needed: silverware, extra napkins, straws and condiments. The server who helped me was super nice! The meal I chose was one of their specials for the day. It was a Super Grilled Cheese which came with cheddar, bacon, tomato and mayo and served with a cup of tomato soup. The soup was fantastic and tasted very fresh! I thoroughly enjoyed that. The sandwich, not so much. The mayo was so overwhelming and the cheese was way too goopy. I opened the sandwich up and tried to wipe off all of that mayo, but it just didn't work. I wouldn't recommend that dish. I imagine I'll go back again for another shot because though my choice didn't pan out, I know they make their food in house and there must be better menu items to try! Though the service was good, the food, wasn't anything to write home about. I had a hamburger steak, and my wife had a cheeseburger. Both were dry and over cooked. T o be fair, we ordered both well done, but other restaurants cook hamburgers weii one, and manage to keep the meat juicy, as do I, at home. The sides weren't any better. In the potato salad, the mustard overpowered all of the other ingredients. The French fries were among the worst I have ever had. The pitiful potatoes were soggy and Kim I can't think of a single fast food restaurant with worse French fries. The main reason we showed up to The Fresh Depot the first time was due to their newer Karaoke Event with Dj Big Red, but now: the Fresh Depot is a spot for our date nights and my lunch breaks. The food is absolutely delicious and the service is top notch! The owners definitely make it a point to get to know their customers - especially if they are return customers. One of my favorite parts of my job is visiting schools in small towns across NC and asking locals where the best hole in the wall to eat is. I was skeptical when no one had heard of The Fresh Depot but I decided to trust the Yelp reviews and give it a shot. I enjoyed a vegetable platter with collard greens, hand cut fries, fried okra, and deviled eggs with a croissant. Unbelievable! The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because the restaurant had no beers on tap, yet it advertised as a gastro pub. I had a can of beer, it was good but this is not a place to go for beer- they only had chilled glasses. This is the place to go for a good lunch or light dinner!! I had the fish special great for 10$. Freshly fried flounder served with coleslaw and a side; I had the red beets which were served hot and not room temperature. My hubby had a bacon burger with thick bacon and the best French fries! The fries were thin, with pieces of skin and were served hot so the salt stuck perfectly to each fry- perfect with vinegar. I hope this place can develop a personality as either a gastro pub, fresh, local food or lunch spot. Right now it's trying to be everything, the decor is sparse; not inviting. Eh. That's about the gist of our experience at The Fresh Depot. My husband and I had driven by the restaurant a couple of times and finally decided to give it a try. It's not that it was horrible, it was just underwhelming. Nothing at all stood out or was impressive about the interior of the building - just plain and simple. I will say that it was pretty cold inside the building and my husband and I had to keep our coats on throughout our entire meal. We ended up getting the buffalo shrimp as an appetizer, which were your standard buffalo shrimp - no surprises. For dinner, my husband got hamburger steak with a side of smashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. They did not have gravy for the hamburger steak, so my husband got with sautéed onions on top. I got a burger that I can't remember the name of now, but it had a fried green tomato and pimento cheese on it, with a side of fries. My husband's hamburger steak was dry and undercooked (a big no-no for hamburger steak) and the sides were extremely bland. He said the Hawaiian roll that came on the side was the best part of his meal. My burger, however, was actually really good - was it a $12 burger? That would be a stretch. My fries were a little over-cooked and dark...like they had been cooked in old oil or something, maybe? So the meal was about half-n-half. My son and I were on the prowl for a date spot, so The Fresh Depot it was! We were sat right away. It was not busy. Our water was friendly. My son ordered Mac and cheese (because that's your favorite food group when you're 4). It was good and hot and homemade. I had the special that day, shrimp tacos. They were great. Well seasoned and fresh. The salsa and slaw topping were delicious. We shared some fries. Best. Fries. Ever. I got my husband some meatloaf to go and it was so good. Had some cake to go as well. We eat there about once a month. The food and service is always good. I have actually seen them put a sign on the door to let you know that are short staffed for the day just in case you are in a hurry and do not have time to wait a few extra minutes. Not many places will do that in fear of losing money, but they want to keep their customers happy. I recommend the Ruben or a cheeseburger with Swiss and sautéed mushrooms and onions. Tonight my mother and I visited. It was my first time. We were seated after waiting a few minutes. Then we waited for almost 30 minutes and no one came to take our orders. So we left. Others were waiting to order. Some were waiting to be seated. From what I could see there was only 2 servers who were also the hosts, but they spent quite a bit of time back in the kitchen. After looking at the menu online it looked like they had lowered their prices and there were several dishes I knew we would like. But the thing that really clinched my decision to go was looking at their Facebook reviews. Particularly the couple of 1 star reviews. I know you may think that's weird. But what impressed me was that the owner actually answered the complaints honestly. I'm so tired of reading reviews and the owners always give that PC bullshit response of "I'm sorry you had a bad experience, please come back and let us show you how good we really are!" What if it was the customers fault! oh no gasp! Like coming 20-30 minutes late for your reservation. One idiot actually said she would never step foot in the restaurant because the owner didn't respond with the PC answer! Amazing the world we live in where a person can just be crapped on by some crazy person. Then when they defend themselves they get crapped on again by a second crazy person! It's like if I called your baby the ugliest thing I've ever seen and you just stood there and said well come back and see our second child when we have one. Anyway enough of that! It is with heavy heart that I'm writing this review. There has been so much hoopla over this new great fantastic restaurant "the Fresh Depot". Well I waited awhile for the newness to wear off and my husband and I and grandma went in tonight. First impressions, great, except I thought there was a bakery also. Sat down right away. Menus were so disappointing I almost left because of that. Well anyway we finally, after the waiter had come by 3 times and then the owner asked if we had any questions, we decided to order. Well we probably should have left. Grandma and hubby ordered meatloaf, one with pintos and collard greens the other with pintos and mashed potatoes. It came with a rock for a roll. We asked about cornbread and the owner said they can't make it right without it getting hard so they don't serve it. So why serve a roll that you cant eat because it was do hard. Now to the meatloaf, it wasn't freshly made that day, you could tell. It was burned and looked and tasted dried out. And then when you bite it, not an inkling of flavor, no salt, no pepper, nothing. Or maybe it was so old the flavors grew wings and flew away. The pintos grandma said Cracker Barrels are better. Hubby said no flavor need salt. Mine are better at home. Mashed potatoes were okay, but they really should add a little salt and butter to them. Collard greens were okay but had to had a lot of hot sauce to eat them. Well I didn't like the menu, hamburger was 1/2#, I can't eat that much, I wish they had a ladies burger or a kids burger. So I ended up ordering the lettuce wraps and 3 chicken wings and fries. Well the lettuce wrap stuffing was decent except it was burnt in a few places which then permeated thru the rest of it. And it should be served with iceberg or romaine because the butter lettuce it comes with just falls and you can't eat it. Very disappointing when your food falls all over the table and your clothes through no fault of your own. And now the Wings, I ordered 3 which is the full wing, tip and all (tip should be removed). Now they came and we're beautiful very large Wings. First I was told they had no celery or carrots to go with it. I would have ordered something different had I known. Well they finally came up with some celery. The blue cheese was terrible so I asked for ranch, it was pretty good. The fries, don't even want to go there. I then ordered the hamburger steak with squash and onions and mashed sweet potatoes as a side. I also decided to go for the salad bar. The lettuce wraps came out around a bowl filled with an Asian chicken mix (enough for two). While I waited on my entree I went to the salad bar where the lettuce and the add ons were all fresh. The place is totally empty - first red flag! I ordered the grilled chicken with sides of zucchini and onions (topped with Parmesan) and roasted turnips. Everything on my plate was burned, old, greasy, cold and disgusting. My daughter ordered the tuna steak sandwich which came way overdone. Her friend ordered the BEC and it came with BLACK bacon. Altogether the food was despicable but what made matters worse was that we sat there for nearly 10 minutes, totally alone in the dining room waiting for the server to come back so I could explain the dilemma. A different server walked through the dining area and I asked for assistance, she told me she needed to complete a task first and then she would help. I then walked back to the kitchen and sought out the server. I asked her to the table and told her the food was a "damn shame" and showed her all the issues we were having. The owner (an older gentleman) came out and told me that he would not allow me to cuss out his staff. I told him that he should make sure the food comes out edible and he wouldn't have upset customers. We went back and forth like this for a few minutes with me finally telling him we wouldn't be back. This is based on lunch service: I'm on the fence about whether I would rate this place two or three stars. The food is ok (3-4 Stars), the waitresses are quick (4 Stars), but the food getting to the table is very very slow (1 Star). They moved to downtown Hickory on the square from Tate Blvd. One of the complaints I have heard about the original location was the same issue. SLOW. Now I know they are in a new location but this is not a new business. They need to get service moving. They wont last very long in this location if they cant move the 12 - 1 pm lunch crowd. I got to lunch today at 11:45 am (small table of 4). From the time we placed the order to the time we received the order was 50 minutes. Thats unacceptable.
