North Hickory Market is a new and local restaurant in Hickory. The focus seems to be on typical American food, mostly brunch and sandwiches along with some special dinner items. It is quite spacious inside and there is a section that offers outdoor seating underneath the roof, which is nice. Our server was attentive, although one of the orders was initially forgotten. That got resolved quickly. I got the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Sandwich on their homemade focaccia. Honestly, for such a simple sandwich, it was delicious! The bacon was not too salty and the eggs and cheese were not too overwhelming on the sandwich. My cousins enjoyed the Italian Stallion and Bagel & Lox (although they ran out of bagels when we arrived for dinner, so my cousins substituted with toast). They also really loved the Side Caesar Salad! I will say that I feel kind of cheated by my server. He initially asked if I wanted a side with my sandwich, basically insinuating that it was included with or part of the sandwich. To confirm that, I asked him if the side would be part of the meal. He nodded in agreement and was like "Sure, if you want it to be," so I got the Potato Wedges as my side. They were seasoned well and came with a dipping sauce that kind of tasted like vinegary honey mustard. But at the end, we were all charged for our sides. I see that the menu does mention sides costing extra, but I do not understand why that was not made clear to us by the server when he asked the question about sides. I was not even thinking about sides for my order until he brought it up. So I think the server could have made it more transparent that the sides were going to be an additional cost ("Do you want to add a side for an additional cost?"), ESPECIALLY since I had asked him upfront before placing my order. Other than that, I would say this is a solid place for some basic but good sandwiches. I would be interested in coming back and trying the other options on the menu. I also like how calm and quiet the surrounding area of the restaurant is. It makes dining in the outside section feel relaxing. read more

This is a great place to grab brunch and/or breakfast in Hickory. The service is great - it's family owned - fresh bagels and lox, eggs, bacon, etc. They have a cinnamon roll of the week - sometimes it's mocha/coffee flavored, other times it is blackberry flavored, etc. Always changing, always tasty! Get one for the table to share! Absolutely delicious bloody Mary's and service is always with a smile - no matter how busy and crazy it gets! The owner is always checking on tables, bussing them when needed. Check them out - the outside isn't very flashy, to say the least - and we wouldn't have thought to stop In had not our friends invited us to join them to be Sunday after church. So glad they did! Incredible food but make sure to bring an extra arm and a leg because it is not cheap. I got the steak sandwich as a daily special and loved every bite. It tasted super fresh and had a great sauce. The default side is chips but you have to pay extra if you want an actual side which adds up quick. They do have a lot of indoor and outdoor seating which is really nice. I also grabbed a slice of dessert and was honestly shocked at the prices, some were up to fifteen dollars for a slice. I got the strawberry pie and it was okay, nothing special. Overall the food and service were both great, it just feels way more expensive than most sandwich spots. read more

Lunch was delicious! Both my wrap and my husband's sandwich had great flavor. Seating outside under shade. I do wish the music inside and outside was quieter. It is also on a busy road with loud cars passing. It was pretty pricey. Does have great gluten free options! It's hard to find a gluten free wrap that size. read more

North Hickory Market has quickly become my favorite restaurant in Hickory! I've been for both lunch and dinner, and every single meal has been outstanding. The food is consistently fresh, creative, and absolutely delicious. You can tell they put a lot of thought and care into every dish. The staff is helpful and always friendly. It's rare to find a restaurant that's this consistent, but this place delivers every time. In my opinion, it's the best restaurant in Hickory by far. read more

Such a cute spot!! Loved the vibe in all 3 of the different seating sections. The service was quick, polite, and charming! Prices were not bad especially for the presentation and quality, and the food was delicious! One of the owners even went around to check in and made friendly conversation where welcome. Olay, I know I know, you're missing me, and yes I've been a little slack! Definitely recommend this little but not so little sandwich shop delight. Atmosphere was inviting, even on a pouring down rain kinda day. Was on an unofficial visit to Lenoir Rhyme, which was a phenomenal game, and won with over 100 points and everyone gets free pizza! Okay, back to review here. This market offered fresh cheese choices, fresh bread, and the works for a sandwich! I had the chicken salad on focacia bread, I sure hope that is spelled right but you know what bread it is! With a side of chips perfect and filling! There was a guy who gave me owner vibes walking around checking on customers, greeting customers, taking up plates and the whole she-bang! Loved it. I went for lunch and I had a BLT which was fine and it was as described but I guess I didn't really think they'd put sun-dried tomatoes on a BLT and the bread was so thick and chewy. I couldn't even cut it in half. It was a $16 sandwich and it didn't even include a side. My husband had a cheeseburger and he said he could've just went to McDonald's and saved a lot of money.. we have been there for dinner before and it was amazing but lunch is very overrated go somewhere where you can save some money and have better food. read more

Good afternoon! Yesterday, I had the pleasure of breakfasting with Tim and Penny Peeler at Calvin Reyes' new restaurant North Hickory Market. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Calvin has turned the old Hattie's store into a comfy, clean restaurant, retaining the roll down doors of the garage in the bar section. It's a spare and uncluttered and bright environment. I could see, hear, and sit comfortably. It smells of fresh bagels and focaccia bread. Ann and I had the $9 breakfast plate with a $3 bagel w/ cream cheese upgrade. We chose livermush and grits with two eggs over medium. We also tried the tater wedges (only cause I'd seen so many images online of them) with the special sauce. We had coffee. I snuck a Pepsi zero after the coffee ran out. Shh. The fountain set is great, a good mix of C02 and syrup. The meal was delicious and of great quality. The grits are real stone ground grits--not cheap, quick grits--full of cheese and butter. Good lord, y'all! The livermush was fried just right, flavorful and worth a Tim Early award. Eggs were correct in temperature. The bagels: OFF THE HOOK great. Nice and tight and chewy on the outside and soft and flavorful inside. Ann had a cinnamon one and I a sesame. Both were perfect in creation and taste. The tater wedges are large, well breaded, and hot, tender, and tasty. A tie with Mountain Fried Chicken wedges, IMHO. Now listen: the food costs a little more than Bojangles or Biscuitville. But the quality, ingredients, and thought put into it are worth it. The proteins are top quality as are the spreads, cheeses, and presentation. Btw, ask them to leave the piece of sandwich wrap paper off your plate. My hot eggs made the paper come apart and I found myself chewing on the paper. Lol! Also, don't feel bad to remind them when a coffee carafe is empty. I know it's arrogant to say, but Calvin Reyes reminds me of myself at his age; his business isn't built on luck but hard work, tenacity, and professionalism. He's the real thing. No BS. He can take criticism, but he adores advice couched with solutions. I used to love when a customer would make a suggestion to make his or her visit to my store a better experience. I can't wait to go for lunch. Once my fixed income account fills up, I'm at North Hickory Market for a Market Melt! And look at that dinner menu! Calvin worked as a chef at several restaurants in the area to learn to plan a menu, and thus food looks fantastic. The restaurant is a fascinating hybrid: Classic cafe diner with gourmet style food at affordable prices (based on the ingredients and item creation) during the first part of the day and true gourmet style meals in the evening. All locally sourced, fresh, and delicious. Good food is science. Flavors, ingredients, and consistency are the outcomes food scientists strive for. Calvin has it within reach. Try it. Be patient, kind, and joyous, and try it. Don't complain online, but contact Calvin and make suggestions with solutions. If you love it, bring friends. They have a bar too with mixed drinks and beer! What a great experience I had!! I came while exploring hickory one Saturday and had dinner. Best decision I made! The service was fantastic, everyone interacted with me from the beginning of dinner until I walked out the door. The food was fantastic! Not only is there a variety, but the recommendations are sure to make your decision a tough one. I decided on an appetizer of spam musabi. It was SO good! If you've ever had musabi, you've gotta try this! For my entree I ordered the pork belly. Yes, just yes. It's so good and comes out looking like a work of art. See photo. And of dessert, olive oil cake with I believe lemon frosting, it was delicious. It's big enough to share. I sat beside a very nice couple who informed me that building used to be an old garage that was full of asbestos and they completely renovated the entire place. It looks so great in there! They did a phenomenal job. Price was great. I failed to mention they forgot to put in my potato wedges but wanted to make sure I tried them anyway so they gave me some to go. They are DELICIOUS!!!! First of all we had reservations but were ignored by the hostess until she resolved some situation. When seated we were at a very cheap metal table that kept sliding and our items would fall off the table. We ordered a Hawaiian burger and Baja Chicken on pita. The bun for the burger was way too small and the toppings just kept falling off and the burger was way undercooked. Baja chicken was underwhelming with hardly any peppers and onions as it was advertised. Things were overly coated with too much sauce. On the positive side the decor and atmosphere were very nice.
