We were on our way home and needed cat food desperately so we stopped in here. We had trouble finding their cat food but after asking a helpful employee, they pointed us in the right direction. Fancy Feast was $1.59 here. Usually it is 95 cents at big box stores so we just bought two cans to tide us over through our little emergency. The store was so interesting that we continued to browse around and found a great deal on ice cream treats. The My Mochi - Strawberry is regularly priced at $6.49 but was on sale for $3.99 today. One of the more interesting things here is the wood floors. And it seems like at least a third of the square footage is dedicated to fresh produce and fruits. read more

I've been a fan of Fresh Market for years, primarily for their meats, seafood, and produce. Recently I started a sibling myself of their pre-made takeout items. Always fresh tasting, I've tried their entree items, as well as many of their sides. For me, the flank steak is my go-to. It's always perfect medium rare with a nice smoky flavor. I love to splash it with teriyaki, delish! Another favorite is their grilled chicken breasts. Always smoky and tender! In terms of sides, the Texas Caviar is usually very good. I always add salt and a tiny bit sugar, which really makes the flavor stand out! Other recommended sides are the vinegar slaw, the collard greens, and the mac and cheese! Fresh Market is hands down the most relaxing grocery store in Lexington that appeals to all the senses. Serene music plays throughout the store, the lights are dim but still bright enough that you can see all the items, and it smells nice as well! That could all be a ruse to dull shoppers senses to the high markup in prices...though you can get good deals on promotions they have advertised. It's a small store with limited variety of items, and a bit hard to navigate around with a cart as some of the aisles are narrow. My favorite item is the cocoa chili almonds in the bulk aisle- I can never pass them up! read more

A bit expensive for everyday shopping but my favorite place to go for a wonderful dinner, dessert, or a niche item. I personally enjoy their chicken pot pie (so cheap for the size and makes an easy dinner) and lemon bars! Today though, I became a major fan of their coconut cake! I've never tasted such rich potatoes au gratin or fresher green beans. Hawaiian rolls were the perfect compliment to a no-fuss elegant meal. We planned a Friendsgiving, but no one wanted to tackle the bird. One of the crew came up with the idea of letting Fresh Market do all the work, and we each chipped in. It turned out to be a very good idea. For about $80.00 we had a 10lb turkey and all the trimmings --- dressing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, and gravy. They even let us substitute green beans for the rolls. The turkey was super tender and moist, and the fixings were good as well. Someone brought pumpkin pie for dessert. So, if you find yourself low on energy to cook the big meal, don't hesitate to use Fresh Market. You can always add your own touches to personalize dinner. read more

I love walking towards the doors of fresh market. There always seems to be an amazing smell coming from the door. Around Christmas, you will find that smell to be from the cinnamon pinecone at the door. In the summer, it could be grilled meat or fresh flowers. The interesting thing when you walk in, is that the store is not super brightly lit. It's adds an air of mystery to the shopping experience. The flower selection is great and affordable. They always seem to have brightly colored flowers even in the winter. Wondering on through the produce section, you'll find things like buddha hands, figs, dates, and cotton candy flavored grapes--type of grape that was produced for its high sugar content. Generally, I don't need to buy things like onion or potatoes here, but they do carry them. Mostly, I tend to go for the things I can't get at the other stores. The coffee. The coffee selection here is fun if you liked flavored coffee. My favorite is the molten chocolate cake coffee. The bulk coffee is $11.99lb and has flavors like salted caramel and toasted marshmallows. They also have Kona and Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee if that is what you are in to. TFM has prepackaged coffee and a small selection of coffee for you to taste. If there is something you want to know about or try, ask the nice people in the coffee area. They will help you out. The meat and seafood departments are great to check for sales. Thick sliced bacon is a common purchase for me. The kicker is the sushi grade ahi tuna. It's been the only place in town I can find such tuna. It's not cheap either, but totally worth it. As for the deli. I'm not usually interested in the deli salads. They do have a heart of prosciutto that they slice that is delicious and cheaper than prosciutto de parma. It is a great find and I recommend it to everyone. The bakery. This is the bakery I go to when I need a crusty french loaf for soup or some dinner rolls to go with steak. The rosemary sea salt loaf and rolls are delicious. Pop them in the oven to heat and crisp them up and add some butter and I am in carb heaven. But let's not forget the sweet side. There is a chocolate fudge pie that is amazing. I am not saying that I ate a whole pie by myself one day, but that may have happened. There are also pocket cookies which are chocolate chip cookies filled with a pocket of raspberry goo or chocolate fudge. Then there are the muffins as big as a fist. Fruit tarts. Cupcakes, and an entire case of different cakes and sweet things. Yes. This is my go to spot when I want sweets, especially cannolis. There are other things that are good to buy here such as the bulk spices or bulk food (think Wasabi peas), but the real treats are the coffee, prosciutto and the bakery items. I can easily spend $50 on 5 items here. Yes, the prices are higher than that of Kroger or Wal-Mart. It's just how things are. read more

This is a nice, clean, well organized store with loads of fresh produce. I was shocked to find that they didn't have wine! Some kind or state law... Seriously, horrible. Not the stores fault, but disappointing none the less. The offerings here are what you'd expect and they have almost all of the items I've seen I'm other places. Even the prices were the same on some of my favorite items... Spooky. 4 stars comes from something missing. As Fresh Markets go, this wasn't one of the biggest ones. It has a large prepared food section that isn't generally what I'm looking for. I was able to snag a few deals on niche items like chocolate avocado cream (try it) and fresh rice noodles. I doubt I'll be able to do a large portion of my shopping here, but it's worth hunting for deals. They do have a ton of sodas and candy if that's what you're looking for. It is a notably smooth checkout experience here as compared to other grocery stores. read more

The cozy feel of this market contributes to a consistently positive shopping experience. I love the selection of products that are "clean". I can easily find products that are free of GMO substances such as corn syrup and hydrogenated fats. The staff is consistently pleasant. Folks are helpful. Staff and customers are generally friendly. Prices have risen, not as good as deals as there use to be. No longer deserts included in their family of 4 meals, prices up $5 a meal deal. They don't alert you either by signs walking into store or by e mail or if on their mailing list, no deals week of holidays, not even a Panini lunch special. Brenda's the hard way after driving in across town as I live past Costco, I get there to pick up a few specials, and after I put some in my cart they then alert me that they're not on sale. They're all regular price. Some are doubled. I had put everything back, and leave. But the worst part was, I had made several phone calls to dear friends about a few of the Thursday specials I thought they might like. I felt just terrible. After I found out while still in the store, I'm texting everyone, not to come out and shop with the fresh market. Everything was full price. One was already getting ready to walk in the store, one was just pulling in trying to find a parking space, and the other night had not left their homes yet. They all thanked me profusely for letting them know so they didn't have to go through this process and waste time. So just remember, the weeks of holidays, there are no weekly sales, as we know them. I'm so disappointed in this business practice to get you into the store and not let you know. There's no signs up anywhere! They figure you'll go to the register and pay for everything without realizing it. They always put banners up for sales across the front of the store, outside, , they should at least put banners up that there are no sales that week due to holidays to save customers time. So, the three of us just went on to Trader Joe's and got what we needed at very reasonable prices and no surprises. Just remember, if you go weekly for certain things, they're not going to be on sale during the holidays. Especially Christmas, New Year's, Easter, and so forth. read more

I really loved shopping this store at least twice a week, for specials and meals However, I've had to stop shopping here. In today, finding out no longer offer the Bistro Meals for $5.00 each ( was generally on Mondays), Thursday had $5 pizzas to nut bread, 2 for $5.00, not to mention other great specials that I drove across town for to specifically pick up each week. No longer on super specials after a long run. So, after finding all this out, walked out empty handed, and with multiple coupons in hand I had in console, went to my Meijer's in Hamburg where I had 50%, off several items I use daily, and few other great coupons, .75 to $1.00 off. Yep, same brand as Fresh Market. Cheaper in regular price plus coupons. No brainer. That saved me money....plus, every so often, get $5.00 to put towards grocery bill. And yes, I buy quality and high end cheeses to free range eggs, and no nitrate bacon, etc...quality yougart and almond milk there, love those 50% off coupons for them at Meijers. Plus, produce is less than Fresh Market and absolutely huge selection for veggies, Fresh Market doesn't carry. I hate to leave Fresh Market, they had a good run with specials for couple years, but no longer. I'd be spending literally double. It's nice if you need one thing in a hurry, if living close, but definitely not for weekly shopping. I like folding that extra cash in half I save at Meijers, and putting it in MY pocket. read more

I have a strategy for grocery shopping: buy canned goods and staples at Trader Joe's; buy fresh produce at the farmers markets; and buy meat at Fresh Market. This is a great strategy, IF i have time to hit three places...which I rarely do have...and IF I have planned ahead to figure out what my cooking week will be, which, alas, also rarely happens. Fresh Market has become my go-to store because their meat and produce selection is fresh and good quality. I also like their cheese selection, the bakery (try the rosemary & sea salt bread) and the sushi. I regularly buy rotisserie chickens here (2 for $12 on weekends). I also like the choices that their buyers make regarding prepared foods. The store isn't huge, but I rarely go to Fresh Market without finding what I want/need. This is a 4-star rather than a 5-star rating because of three things: the prepared food in the deli is not made on-site (and isn't fabulous), the in-store temperature is about 40 degrees (seriously, bring a sweater), and this store is very expensive. I have learned to scan the weekly deals (available at the checkout counters) before shopping so that I can take full advantage of the price breaks, but this is not an economical place to shop. read more

This is literally the closest grocery store to where I live but I rarely go there. It's just too pricey. That's not to say that their products aren't good. I actually visited this store three weeks in a row just because I discovered on chance that they had Golden Nugget Mandarins (which are basically giant Halo oranges, only way easier to peel). They have lots of specialty items that are worth the trip (thing that otherwise you've have to resort to Amazon) like authentic British Coleman mustard or Hummusphere Smoked Hummus (yes, that's a thing that exists). And they do have pretty good specials on occasion and some products that are priced reasonably compared to Walmart and Kroger. But on a regular basis, no. And yes, this store is way too cold. But as a large person, I actually like that. So kudos, Fresh Market. read more

Updating review. Several years have passed and I've found no more expired food issues. The checkout folks are MUCH nicer - in fact, I'd call several of them terrific and memorably great service. UPDATE: Although I never saw or heard from the manager again and I waited about 20-25 minutes for them to prepare my order, there was a gift card to the store attached to it when i did receive it. A nice gesture . . . . Fresh Market may have yummy food, which is why you may overlook the high prices. But, oh boy, does there customer service fall short. I ordered a deli tray online yesterday around 11:30 am to be picked up today between 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM. I arrived around 6:00 PM to pick it up. They couldn't find it. The representative said she would get a manager because "IF you really ordered it, you should get it.". Ummm, I have an e-mail confirmation. Manager half-heatedly threw out an "I'm sorry". This was immediately followed with a "but the weather is bad today and sometime this means internet orders don't come through.". I enjoy the convenience of the store but my largest issue is the price. You do have to earn a significant income to purchase food here. Like most folks, I have to carefully watch what is on sale and specials. I enjoy their deli and meats. However, like most on here have suggested, baked items are not made on site. Some national brands that are carried here are so astronomically marked up, it is unreal that folks might actually buy them. This gourmet grocery store is a mixed blessing. It's a great place for some organic vegetables, and my wife positively adores the meat department for their high quality lamb and good uncured bacon. They also have a pretty nice deli. They also have a very good selection of high-quality coffees (and the only free sample you can count on is from the coffees, where they usually have 2 or 3 flavors brewing). The bread tends to be a little old, and prices are pretty steep compared to other grocery stores, and selection in the dairy products is a little limited and idiosyncratic. Do not think of this as a general-purpose grocery store, because it isn't, and you probably won't be able to fill your entire shopping list here. It is a gourmet grocery that focuses on gourmet and high-quality meats, produce and other foods. If you keep this in mind, it's a good place to go for what it is good at. read more

May have to rethink my choice of FM as my happy place. Today I found that more than 10 produce items I was interested in were simply unpriced. No indication anywhere - neither on package nor shelf - of the selling price. I come here enough to know NOT to gamble... One little Hass avacado is $2.99, after all! Today, my young checkout girl was clearly rattled when I pointed out that a $22.99 item, prominently advertised at 20% off, rang up at full price. She suggested I call the store and speak to a manager!?! She finally agreed to put the difference back on my card. When I suggested that since the sale ran all month, I was hoping to help other customers avoid the problem - I thought she would just lose it... I truly hope that the store was just having an off day, but I fear that it's more than that. read more

Not a real fan of the store. It's convenient. It's very expensive. The staff mostly seem very snooty. Maybe some folks like snooty cashiers; I don't. They have a good selection of high end stuff - like a bagillion kinds of cheese, bread, and lots of funny sound names for manufacturers of soaps and yogurt. Very cutesy. Simple courtesy like handing the change then bills and receipt may be too much. Instead, "heres your change all piled ip with the coins balanced on top." And now I turn around and walk away so I can continue with some inane conversation at another tellers station. Pet peave of mine, maybe? Common courtesy, I say. They do have some veggies and such, that I haven't been able to find other places in town... so I return. Oh, and it turns out that much of the "fresh bread", is baked from pre-prepared (frozen) - not baked from scratch, onsite, as you would expect. It still tastes good, tho. read more

If you are not hungry before, you will be as soon as you enter this store. This has to be the most well laid out grocery store in town. The lighting is soft and one is greeted immediately to a sea of beautiful colors in their fruit and vegetable area. The meat & sea food section is well stocked and wonderful aroma drifts constantly from the hot bar. I like the meat, flowers, and produce at Fresh Market and appreciate that they often have sales to make these items more affordable, and I enjoy their tasting events and cooking demonstrations. The workers in specialty areas (e.g. the meat counter, bakery, etc.) are consistently friendly and helpful with the exception of one perpetually disgruntled butcher, but the cashiers are hit or miss. I've had some that are great and others who are so busy gossiping with each other (on one occassion about some very inappropriate topics) that they ignore their customers. I was also sad to see their "$2.99 Tuesday deals" recently become "$3.99 Tuesday deals." read more

A grocery store, pretty? Go see for yourself. From the colorful fresh produce and flowers to the deli sandwiches, this place is marvelous! They have $2.99 sales on Tuesdays and $6.99 sales Saturdays. If I lived on this side of town, this would be my go to grocery. Yes, it is a bit pricey, but only compared to Kroger or Wal-Mart.
