All of our…read moreChristmas errands, etc, were done, so we decided to take a ride and try somewhere we had not been to before. The first thing you learn is that this place is NOT A STEAKHOUSE!!! I did not ask to see if it was in the past. This a buffet / sandwich / steak / seafood restaurant. Tonight (Wednesday) was $9.99+ tax per person for the buffet, so we said yes because our stomachs were growling. The menu is modest, but they have mostly favorites most people like. We had no way to know if the help here on the 23rd of December was their "A" crew or inexperienced volunteers. The service was severely lacking, nonetheless. We got the buffet because after receiving our water promptly, the menus arrived after I was half finished with my first plate of food. My wife looked at the menu (as did I), and no longer felt like waiting. Most (90%) of the items on the buffet were cooked nicely and in good shape. The beef tips were a bit hard, but the rice to go with it was excellent. The "Salisbury Steaks" were of unknown origin!! A favorite of mine, "Mac and Cheese" tasted more like "Mac and salty Velveeta." All of the vegetables were good, especially the Brussels Sprouts. The only exception was the corn. It looked rough and I'm not crazy enough to try and chew it. The pre-portioned desserts were fairly decent. The pies were all nice, kids were enjoying the ice cream dispenser and the pseudo-cheesecake was OK. The one disappointment here was the Red Velvet Cake. The thin slices were so dry, we could hit it with the heavy end of our knife and not put a dent in it!!! We felt like taking a ride and travelled through several counties to try this place. It was OK. Would we venture out again just to come here, maybe, but not any time soon. Is it worth stopping to eat here if you're rolling by on US 412? Yes, we believe it is. For the price, absolutely!

Opened the box to just a slice of bread and chicken, not really what you'd call a sandwich. Went back in, and they got it fixed but that wasn't the end of it. The bread was greasy, chicken dry, and tomato tasted fishy, not a good sign. Fries didn't even have salt on them. For $12, just go somewhere else.

The buffet is buffet food. Once you've had it, you're good for a long while. I would like to go…read moremore often because Lexington doesn't have many places to eat, and the majority of them aren't anything special, but until they offer a variety instead of the exact same food every time, I will only go on occasion when someone asks me to go with them. I've found that sometimes food on the buffet is too salty (and I like salt). Once the turnip greens were so salty that I had to spit them out. It was as if someone had poured a whole cup of salt in them. The catfish is also usually very salty. Nothing on the buffet is labeled, so you may have to ask about some of the meat if it's your first time to go. The salad bar is very small and minimum, so I prefer to get slaw instead, but I no longer do that. Sometimes the slaw had a strange taste and smell as if it was going bad. Once it was so completely soured that it almost made me gag. I let the server know and she just took it away. Toward the end of the meal, she brought another bowl and said it was freshly made. She never apologized. She actually acted put out over it. Needless to say, I've learned to be cautious with the turnip greens and slaw. The dessert bar is terrible. I mean that. If you like pudding with whipped cream on top (they usually have chocolate and banana), and sometimes a low-quality overly sweet store- bought cobbler, then you'll like it. They also have ice cream, but it isn't the smooth kind. It is more like the type you make at home. My advice is to order off the menu. You will not have the variety, or the amount, but you will have a better meal. The location is good. The parking is good. It's a large place so you can usually get a table pretty quickly.

I loved visiting the store with all of the cool souvenirs and other little trinkets. They also had lots of cool stuff for the kiddos and all of the old school candy for us. On to the food and service! Everything was just lovely. Our server was so amazing and would check on us often throughout our visit. Not only was she kind, but the hostess and the cashier that took our payments. The food was delicious. I had the fish, baked chicken, roast, and fried pork chops for my meats. All of them were seasoned to perfection. For my sides, I had the spinach casserole, greens, mac and cheese. I enjoyed my veggies (so did baby boy, lol). The sweat tea to top it off tasted homemade. It reminded me of the tea my grandmother would make back in the day. Added bonus...the play area for children. My baby boy had an amazing time playing! Great experience!

I can totally understand why field trips and tour busses stop here. They have a restaurant, general store, a museum, garden, church, little walking area and a train. We spent an hour here and could've easily spent an hour or two more. The food was typical southern comfort style, hot and fresh and hearty. The staff were friendly. There's plenty of parking in the huge lot.
