This price is very very high for a stay on a Friday.in Arcata in the middle of May. Pismo Beach # 1 destination in California is half the price to stay under 200 dollars. No pool at this time. This hotel is tucked in a quiet spot and the landscaping and surround is clean. It faces a strip mall with a few restaurant choices, a grocer for everyday items and a few other businesses. The parking area in this motel 6 is plenty. Unlike most motel 6s there is no parking right outside the rooms, it's a small walk away. Smoking is also prohibited within 25ft of building. The rooms are average size, water pressure is sufficient. TV works, bed and sheets are clean. Towels smell fresh. Staff is friendly and helpful. Definitely a nice place to stay over if you're on the road. read more

Okay, check in was super fast and easy. I'll give them that. This is such a strange hotel to me. I know it's a Motel 6, but for some reason when I walked in I was still like. Wtf? It's fine, just kind of odd. Bathroom is HUGE. Handicap accessible, which is awesome. Bed is not comfortable, again. It's a motel 6, but for $150, I would expect a little more comfort. And it's really noisy. I tried to watch tv, but out of all the channels that the dish network said it had, only 3 channels worked. None of which I actually wanted to watch. So, that was awesome. Husband, parents, and I needed to stay in Arcata for a wedding. For some reason I thought choosing the cheapest place possible was a good idea, about $100 a night. My parents got there before us and checked in, making sure to get a bottom floor room. When husband and I arrived, we were shocked at how tiny the room was, especially since it was supposed to be ADA compliant. If any of us had been in a wheelchair there wouldn't have been space for it in the room. Very surprising they try to pass this off as suitable for four people. Two full size beds took up the entire room. There was the tiniest walkway between the beds, (you have to turn sideways and sidestep), and the outside edge of each bed was against a wall. We all had to stay on the beds at all time, there wasn't even enough space to walk past each other comfortably, let alone leave our suitcases open. Our window didn't open even though the room next door had theirs open. One of the very few outlets in the room was faulty and only worked some of the time. On a positive note, the room didn't seem as dirty and disgusting as other reviews mention I will happily pay more for a bigger room next time. Oh well, now I know how small these rooms are. Also there was no breakfast, just a coffee maker in the lobby. We will never stay here again if we can help it. My low rating is mostly based off the size of the room. Maybe with only two people it wouldn't be so bad, but this is one of the smallest rooms I've ever been in. read more

Decent Motel 6 location. Rooms were tiny compared to other Motel 6's we've stayed in. No little freezers in refrigerators. We had a no smoking room, but it did smell a little smokey...assuming some people still smoke in all rooms. These rooms are pretty old and outdated. The bed was comfortable and room as clean as any Motel 6. I always bring my Clorox wipes and wipe down table surfaces, light switches, door knobs and faucet lever. The water pressure was great in the shower. Temperature and draining good too. Plenty of parking available. Owner is very nice and accommodating. Would recommend when traveling with pets. read more

Updated review: I stayed here 2 weeks ago. This time they wanted a $100 deposit even though I have stayed here many times & am in their computer. Even though I am paying by credit card so if I trash the place, they can charge my card. This charge only inconvenienced me that I had to go to the office at check out & wait for the clerk to check that my room was intact. That is an annoyance. I am traveling on biz & every minute counts. Someone else may be inconvenienced in that their credit has been used by the motel. They may have used all of their credit card credit. THINK: $100 deposit times 30 rooms (probably more) is an interest free LOAN of $3000 to this motel. I complained & asked that the new owner or manager be told. I didn't hear from him. I WILL NOT RETURN. This is the second time in a row I have not been treated good. original review one year ago: My room was clean. I think it was 133. The hosts were ok. I feel for the Yelper who had a FIL who couldn't climb stairs. Motel 6 should give them a free room for their poor experience. I stay here very frequently I've had mostly alright experiences. Some issues include my keys have totally stopped working the second day. We've had reservation issues. There is no coffee. Decent wifi is $5 but freezes worse than free WiFi. And no maid services but still $70 - 80 a day. The one star is for manger Patrica. I'd give her a negative if I could. She is rude, inconsistent with what the rest of her staff says, and lacks the skill to work in hospitality. She definitely put a sour taste in my mouth and doesn't care that we're regulars that might not come back solely because of her. When I told the front desk they said "yeah she can be like that" why is she the manger then????!! Where do I start?? My Son currently attending Cal Poly Humboldt started school. Being that this time is the most busy for Arcata due to influx of parents and students we had a hard time finding a room. However, this belly of the beast establishment had a room for almost $200.00. We were only going to spend the night and head back to Southern California the next morning. We we rolled up to our room, there was a party going on next door . The smell of weed and beers cans on the patio were a bit to much for me and my family. I went to the front desk and asked for a new room. The girl at the front desk was kind enough to oblige with that request. So we packed up our stuff and headed to a knew upstairs room. Upon entering this Devils Den, the smell of smoke and Body odor hit me like a Mack truck. I was a bit reluctant to even let my kids enter. Whenever I check into a room ( Especially with the last issues) I double check to make sure everything is in order. The first thing I did is look under the beds. Bed #1 was clear. Bed # 2..............NOT SO MUCH. When I lifted the mattress, there was a syringe full of drugs on the floor..I said, "HELL NO" we are out of here. I get it, the Motel cannot control what people do in the rooms. BUT, they can make sure it is clean for the next guest. With the smell , syringes, and possibility of more syringes, my family and I marched out of there back to the car. I approached the front office, and a younger girl ( who was very nice) called the Manager whom I believe was the owners daughter. She had the nerve to ask me if I was sure? Are you serious? Sure? I told her very sure and if she would like, call the police and have them check it out. Anyways, after those stupid questions, I was refunded my money and we went next door to Days Inn. We got a nice suite for around the same price. It was clean and 500x's better place. I had seen a lot of bad reviews with a 1 star rating, and I was afraid to take a chance on staying here. However, after I have spent a few weeks at the place, I realized that there isn't anything bad about this motel and that those few bad ratings had to have been just one time, isolated incidents. I am used to expensive hotels, and that is what I usually get. This Motel 6 seems to me to be quite good. I have never had any issues and the staff has all been very nice and sincere. It is well priced and has everything that you need. I highly recommend this Motel 6 to anyone. It has been a good experience staying here, and I'll be back, no matter how many people complain. Pretty bad experience here. But it was a warm, somewhat clean room so I was thankful for that. Upon arriving, I asked to be put in a quiet room and they put me right over where they are doing construction in the morning, lol. But oh well, I could have gotten over that. But what happened next was ridiculous. I came down to Arcata because I had been having some health issues and power went out where I live nearby. Upon paying and checking in (without inspecting the room first, which I usually do, so that was my fault) I turned on the heater and made sure it wouldn't make me wheeze. It had a bad burning smell when it came on and was making some weird sounds and struggling to operate so I decided to leave. This was within 5 minutes upon checking in. Upon going to the office, they had a "return in 15 minutes" sign in the window, so I went around the corner to get gas and clean my car. When I got back they still were not in the office. When they finally came back I told them the situation and requested a refund so I could go to somewhere a little newer. The front desk attendant called her overlord who apparently micromanages everything in his Motel 6 domain, and it came back that it was HSU graduation weekend and they would not do any refunds or some such bullshit, so Cal Poly parents beware, check the room first. I feel like this owner has a general no refund policy aside from his excuses. By the way, there was like 4 cars at 8pm with no sign of filling up. I asked to speak with him in person (he lives there). He came over and looked at me like I was a pos. He claimed by this point I had been there for 45 minutes and would not be refunding my money. Ya right man, you got cameras all over the place and could see I wasn't even on the premises during that supposed 45 minutes, and the time I was there I was waiting out front of the office. I told him about the heater and my health issue and he rudely told me to wait while he went to investigate. I heard him telling the front desk attendant to clean the filter on the heater. Upon coming back he said the heater was fine and said I had used the bed as well because it was made wrong. All I did was pull down the sheet a little to see if it was clean and put it back! Regardless, he said he wouldn't refund money, no matter what, and told me I could leave. I told him I would be writing an unbiased review, to which he responded it was my right and walked away. At this point I was pissed and called the police because I felt robbed, but surprise, they couldn't do anything, although the officer was understanding and gave me some good advice. He said it was this guy's right to not issue refunds but I could take the matter up in civil court. I knew there was nothing I could do at this point so I went back up to see if there really was no smell from the heater as the overlord claimed. When I went back up I noticed weed smell (or cooking from below? I don't know but it wasn't pleasant. Note: the room directly below is the overlord that lives there) and the sink was newly wet from where he had seemingly cleaned the heater filter. Upon lifting the toilet lid I noticed with abhorrent horror there was disgusting dried pee all over the rim and floor surrounding. I hadn't even noticed that before but it had obviously been there a while. I went to my car and got hand sanitizer to clean the entire bathroom and all surfaces. There was a weird blood stain on the bed comforter, that immediately flew into the corner. And the two flat pillows, ah, how sad they were. To top it all off, the room had ONE, and only one depressingly dim light. The lonely soul of a light was in the ceiling. There was no lamps on the wall, bedside stand or anywhere lol. WTH. I mean I know this is a Motel 6 but come on. However, I did noticed the heater didn't produce that nasty smell anymore so figured I might as well try to stay since I was being forced to. I also decided to stay there so they wouldn't try to do something even more shady in my room without me being there and try charge me for it! The cop had warned me he wouldn't give people their deposit back for smoking in there, though they didn't charge me for a deposit (thanks the Lord). I don't smoke anything so saying I smoked in there would have been the last straw and I would have gone to court over that. (Since it did smell like smoke). Fearing such an outcome at this point, I literally went home, got a lamp to use for the night so I could see and it wouldn't be such a depressing dim prison cell, and also some more pillows. It wasn't a great night but it wasn't the worst either. The room smelled fresh, though the bathroom did have that weird smell all night. I kept the bathroom door cracked and the fan on all night and that seemed to help. I didn't have any health issues so that's a plus. The bed was comfortable (with extra pillows). If I could give this place 0 stars I would! I booked the last room in town for my father-in-laws birthday and fathers day. When checking in at 4 (an hr later than we could have) they told me there were no clean rooms available on the 1st floor and the tried to put us on the 2nd room. My FIL is handicapped and on oxygen - unable to do stairs. I asked them how long to wait for a room. They said maybe 2 hours or longer as their housekeepers were working on routes. I asked how many people ahead of us were physically there waiting for a room and they confirmed no one. I asked why they couldn't re-route a housekeeper to do our room next since we were there waiting - they refused and said that if we wanted the first floor we had to wait hours. We are now stranded in Eureka on fathers day weekend with literally no where to go and no where to get my FILs oxygen plugged in. They literally refused to honor the ADA accessibility and now we may be stuck in the car for hours with no oxygen for my FIL going back home. This motel ruined our entire weekend and didn't even try to work with us or a handicapped elderly. I would NEVER stay here and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Terrible customer service. read more

This review should be 1.5 stars. We've been doing a decent amount of travel, and in CA we stay at Motel 6. This trip we were up for my niece's HSU graduation. The motel's on Arcata's "hotel circle" which is apparently where the city's homeless (sad face) and tweakers hang out. Did not interact with anybody, but both mornings when I went to get coffee, APD was on the street talking to the folks at the bus stop. The room was standard Motel 6 with a twist - the toilet was plugged, so we were generously provided A PLUNGER so we could manage our own waste - what a nice touch. Strangely, there was no dresser in the room, just cubbies in the TV stand, and the hangers were old-style wire ones. Ick. The pillows on my non-smoking bed smelled of smoke. The desk clerk - Greg (?) - was professional and conscientious, though. If we ever travel to Arcata again, this location will DEFINITELY not be on our stay list. I will be contacting corporate this week to advise them of the toilet "experience". read more

I would like to start the review by saying that the staff was friendly, helpful and respectful. After driving over 13 hours, we needed to take a break for a few hours and catch some shut eye. The only thing that mattered, was the bed and a couple pillows. When I saw the Motel 6 from the freeway, I figured it would be just what the doctor ordered. Well, so much for doctors orders. One of the beds had such a hole on one side, that my buddy nearly rolled off of it. We were so tired, that we didn't bother to ask for a different room. That turned out to be a big mistake as he didn't sleep well at all. In my opinion, this bed should have been thrown out long ago and there is no excuse for that. Due to the overall negligence of the hotel management, I would not recommend staying here. read more

On a coastal drive I decided to stay the night in Humboldt County. The reviews for the Eureka Motel 6 were pretty bad so I opted for Arcata instead. The Arcata location was shady. There were some tweakers about, the parking lot is pretty sketch and there's definitely a homeless presence in the area. The worst part was inside the room. The bathroom. The shower floor was seriously disgusting and made me think twice about even wearing my flip flops in there. It was gross. The room didn't look like it'd been cleaned, or at least cleaned well. The comforter had some stains, along with the bed skirting. Though I wouldn't recommend this particular hotel location, I gave it 2 stars because I often travel with my dog and tend to use Motel 6 as a no fuss, no deposit, pet friendly hotel option. read more

I was very surprised to find the room was updated with a modern look. They did the floors with a wood look so no gross rugs. The beds were very comfortable and the room was very clean. We had booked our hotel room for a nonsmoking room on a Friday night and got a pretty good deal. I booked through Orbitz like I always do. Once we stopped by to check in, the gentleman at the front desk informed me that at the time of my booking all their nonsmoking rooms had already been taken. I was trying to understand how it was possible that a room I specifically booked to be a non smoking room, was no longer available. I wanted to look elsewhere but it was passed 10pm and I'm sure everything was already booked on a Friday night. So I sucked it up and said ok. We parked and unloaded our vehicle with our belongings. As soon as I entered the room I could smell the nasty reek of cigarette smoke. It was disgusting. There were cigarette burns on the blankets and it smelled pretty bad. To make matters worse we had a biker gang right next to our room smoking weed. So it stunk both outside and inside. We went back to the front desk and we were angry at this point. The guy tried to find us another room, so we went to the new room he found on there but it was only a One bed on smoking. Ok so we walk up there and the room was not clean. The maids never cleaned this room and left it filthy with someone else's trash and sheets used. We immediately walk out of that one. Again, we go back to talk to the guy at the front desk. He asked if we would like to go stay at another hotel and would refund us our money. We knew we weren't gonna find anything since it was so late at night. We opted to stay at the smoking room. The gentleman at the front desk gave us a Sparta to use in the room that would help with the smell and it really did. We sprayed it all over our room and left the windows and door open for about an hour to air out the nasty cigarette smoke smell. Terrible experience to keep going back and forth so many times. The guy at the front desk really did try to make it better and look for other options but there weren't too many. I'm thankful that he gave us the spray to use on the room to help with the smell. read more

We checked in for a 2 night stay, and upon entry found clothing hanging in the bathroom from a previous occupant, the ice bucket was filthy with pen marks and dirt wrapped in the plastic, the pillows were stained with something yellow that was hard and crunchy, and the ice maker was non functional downstairs. Then the evening festivities began...between the hours of 7:00PM and 2:00AM "guests" went to and from the ice maker loudly and profanely proclaiming their irritation at it's lack of function. (No sign was placed on it) At 11:00PM an obviously drunk male was overheard trying to coax an obviously underage female into his room...her brother intervened and a fight ensued (That was one of three fights that night) At 2:00AM the party crowd returned and loudly continued on the balcony's, the highlight being the drug deal that loudly transpired. We did not stay a second night. The manager told us when we asked to be reimbursed, that "Everything is fine" THIS PLACE IS UNSAFE, DO NOT STAY HERE! read more

It was not dark yet when we arrived at the Motel 6 in Arcata but they still left the light on for us. Our rooms were nicely remodeled with that horrible carpet that Motel 6 is infamous for having been replaced by sheet vinyl that resembled hardwood flooring. It actually was fairly appealing for sheet vinyl that resembles hard wood flooring. I don't know who installed that flooring but they did a really nice job. Motel 6 is a budget motel, so don't expect any kind of amenities other than fresh coffee at the office in the morning. If you are looking for a room with a clock in it or a hair dryer or even shampoo then I suggest you go elsewhere. However, if you are willing to bring your own clock, hair dryer, and shampoo, 50 bucks is a great price for a motel room close to the ocean. Our room was clean and served us well as a place to shxt, shower, and sleep. The office personnel were also most accommodating. I am sure they will even leave the light on for you. read more

The staff here is great. The guy at the front desk was courteous and seemed genuinely interested in doing his best to help us out. The manager worked hard to find room for us (we were having a family emergency) and even though the hotel was sold out, he was able to bring a room online that had been down for maintenance. In addition to the excellent staff, the hotel amenities are great. Pet friendly with no extra fee. There's a very nice outdoor pool and someone has been giving care to the landscaping; flowers planted in repurposed, full sized old wine barrels were a nice aesthetic. It seems someone is interested in fixing the place up. Location is very nice too; easy walking distance (just across the street) from a grocery store, sit-down family diner, Chinese buffet, Mexican, and drive-through coffee bar as well as McDonalds, Subway, smoke shop, hardware store and gas stations. 24 Hour Truck Stop style restaurant across the overpass. Hospital less than a mile away. Easy freeway access and only 2 exits from Humboldt State University. read more

This is not your average Motel 6. Booked here last week for one night because it was the cheapest spot around. As Motel 6 usually is. And I know what usually comes with that. Basic, clean, and a full range of clientele, some sketchy, some not. I ask for two things when I book a cheap motel room. Low to moderate noise (never been an issue), and cleanliness. Our neighbors were all quiet, so that was nice. No sex discernible through the walls, as often happens. I'm a heavy sleeper, don't care about such things. The room...appeared generally clean at first. However, the blankets (not the cover) had not been washed. We removed the bed covers to find filthy-appearing blankets covered with dirt, lint, and what appeared to be crusty dried semen. I'll post some photos shortly. [Done.] I'm used to Motel 6, don't care about what my neighbors look like, and will not be staying at this place ever again. Ever. If you're looking for a cheap spot in the area, there's a wide range of low to mid range motels/hotels on the same block. I can't speak for any of them in particular (yelp?), but....if you don't want blankets with odd patches of crusty white stuff on them, don't stay here. It was disgusting, and how this place maintains an affiliation with the chain's name is beyond my understanding. It should be shut down, cleaned, and reopened with new management. read more

You know what you're gonna get when you book at room at Motel 6 --- a bed, shower and no extras. I stay here when I'm on business in the Humboldt Nation and haven't had any problems. It's cheap and that's about all that can be said about it. Last time I was there, two cars had their windows broken outside of my room. It's never a good feeling to come out of your room in the morning to be greeted by one of Arcata's finest asking if you saw or heard anything during the night. Many Motel 6s have updated their rooms and this one features newer 'wood' floors and updated bathroom fixtures. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were great. Sure, the table was a bit worn but you're not expecting solid oak furniture at a Motel 6. The best feature was the staff. Very friendly and very willing to offer suggestions about where to eat, visit and do while we were in Arcata. They made a genuine effort to offer good suggestions and did so in a friendly, accommodating manner. The towels were a bit rough (not very soft) but, again, you're not staying in a resort. I was a bit disappointed you had to pay for an internet connection, so I passed on that. The outside was good for what you're getting. I didn't see any garbage or whatever laying around. The neighborhood itself is ok for Arcata; you're going to see some locals (homeless or not) on the sidewalk but at no time did I think that was an issue. Overall, a pleasant experience. Awful, awful place. My husband and I checked in at 10pm after a 14-hour long car ride, looking forward to a shower and a clean bed. So much for that. It's in a terrible area (can we say crack heads?) and, while I didn't expect much from the room, I did expect cleanliness. The first room they gave us had unidentified stains on the wall and blankets and had a coat of dirt and grime on nearly every surface. Even our dog was disgusted by it. We switched rooms and the second one was clean and quiet, which seemed to be the best we could hope for in that situation. But we were still greeted by transients and broken windows in the morning. My dad thinks the price was right, considering the prices around the area but next time I'm going to make him read reviews before booking motel 6's in unknown towns. Worst part was when my family got our room number, we looked up to see the door already opened, with a dark room inside. We inquired the front desk person about it and she said, "Room 202? The maid probably just forgot to close it." The two stars go to the helpful front desk woman who went up to check our room to make sure no one had been living in it since my family was terrified to check. (We got in at night) However, we found later when trying to leave for a late dinner that our door would not lock. A man came up and used his fist to bang the the door lock & then proceeded to pull out his large pocketknife and unjam the lock, little intimidating but we were grateful. Extra small beds, not made for two people to fit even though they're labeled as doubles. No space between the walls & the beds so my dad was practically on top of the AC unit. Bed springs caved inward. Could hear the TV from the room next to us so we were just lucky to be neighbored with a quiet person. Strange because we had a connecting door to that neighbor so we made sure to deadbolt it. Weird stains in shower. There were no places to hang towels which felt weird. Coats of dirt under where "clean" towels were sitting. No continental breakfast. No amenities. So yay, thanks for booking cheap places dad (My family had a good laugh reading all these reviews after our stay and being further horrified. ;)) read more

This place is sketchy to say the least. I realize Humboldt has it's share of creepers, but they all seemed to be hanging out at the Motel 6. My room smelled like wet dog and the carpet was sticky. There was dog hair on the comforter and I felt like I had rented a dog house for the night... Not acceptable. I had to strip the bed and sleep in my sleeping bag on top. I awoke all itchy and couldn't wait to get out of that smelly room. The staff was fine, but the place is plagued by scumbags. Some crackhead started pounding on my door at 10pm looking for a previous guest. They need a security guard here or something. I couldn't sleep thinking someone would break into my car. Unless your typical evenings include sleeping in a dog bed, and scoring crack rock, I'd pay a little more and use the Quality Inn across the freeway. read more
