I will not embarrass him, but we found out about the restaurant through him. We try to come once every month to six weeks, covid permitting. Gafford is normally a good spot for dinner, but they were way off their game Tuesday evening. We were a party of 4 with a reservation at 7:30. Seated promptly however service was extremely slow and not welcoming. Entire meal consisted of salads and entree's with no desert and we finished dinner at 10PM...a 2.5 hour dinner. Has to be an all time record. Topped off with having the buss boy clearing the table and stacking all the dirty dishes in tower in front of me. He didn't seem to know better or care. What an amazing place! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the food was absolutely amazing, the portions were more than we could eat! My wife, sister in law, brother in law and I went to dinner at Gafford's. We had a reservation and they were extremely busy. Because they were so busy I thought that they would seat us late. We sat at the bar to wait and have a glass of wine. The bartenders were very attentive even though the bar was very very busy. To our delight the hostess/matrade were very well organized and seated us 10 minutes early. My wife and I had the grouper. My sister in law and brother in law had the mahi mahi. We dined at the Gafford Tuesday night. I had made reservations previously. We arrived about 10 minutes before our reservation. The hostess seated us by the window, which I declined because it was still too hot and the sun was directly on the table. She seated us to the table closest to the hostess stand which I wasn't crazy about either, but it was fine. The restaurant only had a couple tables taken, she could have put us at a more desirable seat. We were greeted promptly by our server David with water, warm bread and butter. He offered cocktail specials, which we had pineapple vodka martinis. David told us the appetizer specials, we ordered the Burrata and Gator ribs which arrived to the table within 10 minutes. I loved the Burrata and the ribs were good. David took our dinner order, and replinished our drinks. Our Gafford Ribeye and Filet Mignon were cooked perfectly!! The accompaniments suited the dishes, and were yummy as well. David described the desserts in which we had the banana cheesecake in fried Philo with salted caramel ice cream and coffee, Delish!!! David took our payment in a timely manner, we complimented his wonderful service, and will ask for him when we dine again!! We have been frequenting The Gafford for a number of years now and it only keeps getting better which is hard to believe since it was tremendous from day one. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is fantastic. The service is beyond awesome, professional. Rick, Taylor and everyone truly make you feel like you are family. This is our "go to" place in Stuart and anywhere for that matter. We recently celebrated a birthday dinner along with spending New Years Eve and many other occasions and always look forward to enjoying the best meal anywhere. To embellish how good The Gafford truly is. Our son just came home from South Korea for the first time in 18 months and his only request was dinner at The Gafford. So he flew 24 hours and thru 7 time zones just so he can go to his favorite place. I guess it is the best place in the world. lol So if you have not already made the determination we kind of enjoy it here to say the least. We went in for a late dinner around 8:30 , our appetizers were yummy . We had the crab cakes and salmon salad . We were excited to order the lamb but was very disappointed . It was so fatty that my husband barely ate one and decided to pack it up . I tried it the next day and it was blah, not the quality we were expecting . I had the carne asada and it was delicious and had great flavor, the avocado salsa that it was topped with was yummy . Just not sure why the lamb had the same topping of avocado seemed strange to me . Our server was good, drinks were on point as well . I think next time we will stick to other things on the menu. Had dinner here with friends and I am still in AH as to how amazing the food and service was. Our waiters name was Trevor, very nice, funny, and personable made us aware of specials as well as was very attentive. I had the confetti chicken thighs with mac and cheese and wow! Meat falling of the bone perfectly seasoned and combined with the glaze and cheese was out of this world.They have a very good wine selection as well as a full bar. We've never had good luck here but have friends who love it so we decided to give it another try. We started with the tuna appetizer which my husband loved and I thought only ok. Then we each had the shrimp bisque which was fabulous. We then split the ribeye special as our entree. It was split in the kitchen and the presentation was good. However my half was probably 95 fat. When I told our server, her response was "yeah ribeyes have a lot of fat". We probably won't be returning. read more

This Gafford is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Over the course of the last year, I have been here at least 10 times and I have never had a bad experience. The service, food, and drinks are always excellent. Many restaurants are good but not consistent; they have mastered consistency. To anyone thinking about trying the Gafford, do it! Been to The Gafford about 6 or 7 times now and must admit, it is hands down one of the best Stuart restaurants/bars. Ask for Jodi - she is the best server and will help you order the most delectable items on the menu! I thought my favorite was the salmon until I tried the swordfish. The fried chicken is amazing off the daily menu. Espresso martini is perfect for an after dinner drink. Bar is normally packed by 4:15 so get there early. And just ENJOY!! Through this Corona Virus "stay at home" scenario, my husband and I appreciate owner Rick and his staff for giving us two date nights a week when I don't have to cook and on one night, he comes home from the hospital/office, showers (then on Saturday we just know) and he goes downtown to pick up the BEST food ever...yes, it is as wonderful as when we are sitting in the restaurant, with Harmony, Jeanine, Trevor and all the support staff serving us to make it absolutely perfect...We miss being there but are so thankful for all of them for making this situation so much more tolerable!!!! The experience here was not as good as I was expecting. My husband and I wanted to go out for dinner and the Yelp reviews indicated this would be a great pick. We walked in, and immediately noticed a "Smokey" environment (from the fryer). Very unpleasant. Very stuffy and warm because of it. We both felt like we needed another shower. We ordered specials and they were sub-par. Waitress handed us the check without asking if we wanted coffee or dessert, but somehow turns around and asked the table next to us if they wanted coffee and dessert. One of my favorite places in town. We had no reservation and they were very busy but were able to get us in on a Friday night very quickly. We were greeted with a smile from the hostess and the service was spot on. We ordered two fabulous appetizers and I highly recommend the duck wings. We've eaten here several times and it has always been phenomenal. The filet was cooked to perfection and the Caesar salad had a great flavor (I did need more dressing though as I'm a Caesar dressing fanatic). Happy hour is from 4:00 p.m. to only 5:00 p.m. There were about four or five couples liked up at the door waiting for the Gafford to open. We had the crab cakes and there were three on the platter. We both could only eat two each after the salad so you know they are a good size. Extremely delicious, they came served on a small bed of mixed greens and were drizzled with a stone ground mustard mayonnaise sauce! The salad was served in a large sized bowl and was only $5.00 and the crab cakes were $8.00. These are the happy hour prices. All drinks are half off during happy hour and half off all night on Sunday's. Our friends also had the crab cakes and the grilled avocado first, which came served with a balsamic sauce....also very delicious! The atmosphere here is relaxed and comfortable. Had dinner at the Gafford with five of my friends last week. Our server Jeannine was excellent & attentive. We all started with various salads which were tasty and had the freshest ingredients. My pretzel crusted snapper was delicious. Three ladies ordered the grouper special and raved about it as well as one who ordered the Scottish Salmon. My friends all ordered the Tito's strawberry lemonade which they thoroughly enjoyed. Will be returning with my husband in the very near future. read more

Delicious food and drinks! We came with a big group and the service was impeccable. Make sure to listen up when they mention the specials; tonight we had the pleasure of enjoying the curry king crab soup. Portions are pretty big, so you'll probably have leftovers for lunch! How do you ruin a family holiday that is based on food? The Gafford managed to this year. The Thanksgiving special that they ran this year was that you could order a meal and pick it up. After doing this last year we figured the quality would be similar this year. We were sadly mistaken. Luckily we only ordered side dishes ( I'm scared to see what they would have done with a turkey). The green bean casserole was more like whole green beans, stem and all, poured into a white soup. The stuffing was a sausage and bread concoction that tasted more like store bought croutons. And I never thought I would say this but MASHED POTATOES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE MASHED! after pulling out 3 whole slices of potato I finally threw it away. It only good thing about this event is that the gravy was decent, bit nothing worth putting it on except the turkey WE made. And the sweet potato casserole was good. That is the only reason this place gets 1 star. If this is the product that they are willing to give out I'm sure their endeavors as a restaurant are that customers would want to avoid. If your in downtown Stuart, go to Riverwalk or the Italian restaurant you won't be disappointed like I was on thanksgiving. read more

Not much taste experience. I ordered the Avacado App and again was bummed out. It was basically a hot avacado with some salsa. The wine choices were very reasonable and solid. Not a ton of depth but more than fair. Sides. Asparagus was great. Mac and cheese. Solid. Ambience was ok but if the meal would have hit I'd let it go. Excellent!!! One of the best meals we had in our 5 day stay in Stuart. We had the tuna tartar (special for that day), the salmon and the crab cakes. Btw we came in around 9:40pm and they are supposed to close at 10, they still seated us. Our server was David and he was great... Very pleasant and professional. Overall an awesome experience -- quite the contrast to that of the spoto's oyster bar. When we visit again, we will be sure to be back here. read more

Ehhhhhh it's just a so so place. Sloppy food prepared poorly, trying to imitate a fancier restaurant than they really are. The tuna tartar was gross and cut badly. We have been to The Gafford a few times in the last year. On each occasion we have found the service to be wonderful and the food to be top notch. The restaurant is small, though it doesn't seem to be as cramped as other similar establishments. The ambiance is casual, you will see people wearing almost anything from suits and dresses to shorts and polo shirts. While others have noted the noise level, the night we were there the noise level was such that a normal conversation could be had. While everything is made in house we learned that they do obtain their bread dough from a bakery in Chicago. The bread was the right combination of crispy outer crust and warm soft inside and served with softened butter. This trip my wife the Mahi served with rice and green beans and I chose the Mushroom Ravioli special served in a sauce which looked similar to a pesto but was made with spinach. The fish was grilled perfectly and the green beans still had a nice firmness. The ravioli portion was huge with the mushrooms remained firm inside the pasta. Even though we both were stuffed, we decided to end our meal sharing the seven-layer carrot cake after seeing a few pass by our table and the way to other guests. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great dining experience in a casual setting. In addition to the entrees we had this visit, I can recommend the both the meatloaf and the fried chicken if you are in the mood for some delicious comfort food. As with other downtown restaurants, parking can be a challenge especially during season. Our dinner, which included two salads, two entrees and the carrot cake dessert came to $80.00 before adult beverages, taxes and tip. read more

My wife and I ate here this week and it was a pleasurable dining experience. We had been told to try them out and this week was the time. There was a show crowd in (next to the Lyric Theatre) and they were slammed but we had a few lingerers that were waiting for the last minute to leave and go to the show. Not the Gafford's issue. Until our table was ready we were asked to wait near the door. My wife asked that a chair be provided because I have back issues and standing isn't fun. The owner provided a chair and took our drink order while we waited. I had a very nice Rick's 46 Manhattan and my wife, a glass of wine. We were seated and Nic, our server, took great care of us. The service was very good the entire meal. I had Mabel's fried chicken, which was moist and flavorful,over mashed potatoes and asparagus. Good comfort food. My wife had the beef short ribs and they were very good alao. We started with a fig and pear salad which we split as well as a tuna tartare app that we split. I have seen some comments about the place being pricey but I don't agree. I thought the prices were very fair compared with the area market and the fare that they serve. We'll be bringing guests next month and we hope we are seated in Nic's section. read more

We ate dinner here on a Friday night in the off season.. but the restaurant is still packed. There is an open kitchen which is super cool, because you can see the kitchen preparing your dinner as its made. We were extremely impressed with our dinner. I had the duck deviled eggs, and my girlfriend had the tomato bisque soup for starting. We then had steak and tuna for dinner. The chef specifically prepped and cooked a perfect tuna for my girlfriend even though they had run out. The food was the best I'd ever had. I'd easily give this restaurant 5 star and more. I had the pleasure of going to the Gafford twice over my holiday break! The food and the service were both exceptional. The first night I sampled many appetizers including the cheese board, crab cakes, and the hummus. All were amazing. I followed the appetizers with the fried chicken and waffles. The chicken was delicious, and the chipolte syrup brought the meal to a new level. The second night I went, I treated myself to an intense 4 course meal. I started with the beer cheese soup, by far the best soup I have had! I also ordered the caesar salad which was light and delicious. The chef brought out a sample of the night's special : Roasted pear purses with caramelized shallot and brie creme with palm vity honey drizzle. It was amazing. I then ordered the filet, I know you are judging my intake at this point, but I was on vacation. The filet was cooked perfectly. My service was equally amazing both nights, and I loved the ambiance the restaurant provided...I highly recommend this place! read more
