Went here spur of the moment and was pleasantly surprised - ambiance was good (got a booth, cause the Michigan Ave traffic noise ain't for me), my old fashioned was delicious and the halibut was perfectly cooked. The fries, which weren't mine might have been the best I've had - perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy and delicious inside. The service, while a bit scatterbrained was attentive. We had a corporate event hosted at the private dining space here and it was wonderful! We hosted around 40 people and had a limited menu curated to the event. It started with crab cake - one of the best ones I've ever had. It was pretty big, soft, warm and tasty. Then a salad was served - avocado with leafy greens and a vinaigrette dressing. It was tangy and light. The main entree was a choice between a citrus branzino or the filet mignon. Both were cooked to perfection. The brazino was exceptional. Then desert was a raspberry chocolate cake - the presentation was gorgeous and it was a decadent cake. Service was great! The timing between the courses was a little long. read more

An intimate setting that felt like an exclusive explorers club lounge. I was able to make a reservation on Google. I don't recall putting in any special requests but we got a lovely corner table in one of the side rooms, which made for a wonderful date setting. Very surprised at the amount of places offering poutine in Chicago! As Canadians, I give this place a thumbs up for their braised pork poutine. Lots of big cheese curds with braised pork that could have been served all on its own. The Chicken Fried Lobster was what originally drew me in. It was fantastic! Three lobster tails paired perfectly with a grilled lemon and spicy sides to complement the fried goodness of it all. I loved the innovative menu, its execution, and my overall experience here. We came here one date night in January. It is warm and dark inside with a large bar to sit at where we had to wait as part of being punished for being early. The mocktails were pretty good but too much sugar. When they sat us finally the wait staff came quickly. The options were usual American various meat dishes and everything your cardiologist would scold you for. I'm a gin girly, so they do have a Gold French 75, their twist on a classic Frech 75. It was amazing. Now i must say, they did tell me that they change out their drinks monthly, don't ask for one specific popular drink. Get what you want and will love. I started with a Scottish Egg, because why not, i never had one. It was great. And then moving on to TBA l the only reason o was told to come here, their Poutine. I had this as my main dish, some i was dining alone. It was AMAZING. it did NOT disappoint. Now, i do also enjoy a classic Old Fashion. So if you tell you have a twist on it, i gotta try it. Stopped by The Gage for a quick brunch while in downtown Chicago! Tasty overall but nothing too impressive or unique. I was craving poutine and their version partially hit the spot. The braised pork was well seasoned with a nice whiskey infused pork gravy. Good amount of cheese curds, but I did wish the meat to fries ratio was higher. The wedge salad was solid. Lettuce and veggies were fresh. Dressing was appropriate and not too tart. The pork belly was quite yummy and crispy! The Nutella Wheel Croissant was much bigger than expected. It really packed a lot of nutella! However, almost to a point that it was a little too overwhelming and. I did appreciated how the croissant aspect was still very crispy and fluffy. The chocolate coat was dark and not too sweet! For drinks, The Gage G&T was solid, although hard to appreciate the citrus and raspberry aspect. Our server was really nice and checked in often. Food came out at reasonable time. Decor drew from their Irish pub influences. Coming from NYC, I thought it was on the pricier side but their portions are also pretty big. read more

I've eaten several times at The Gage. This time was a little disappointing. Service was a little uneven by their usual high standards. They were not able to accommodate my garlic allergy very well, leaving me with only a burger or salad without dressing to choose from. The burger was good but not worth the price and they also added 3% fee. Previously there were more garlic-free options. Not likely to return anytime soon. read more

My friend and I decided to give The Gage a try to catch up and get drinks and we had a great time! This restaurant has a great atmosphere perfect for date nights. My friend and I walked in without a reservation but it didn't seem to be a problem since it was a rainy Wednesday evening. We both got a drink and shared a crème brûlée and it was great! Crème brûlée was delicious and sweet, paired perfectly with raspberry sauce. For drinks I had the waiter's choice which was the spicy margarita, I was told it was going to be spicy and sour and it wasn't so I was a bit disappointed. It tasted watery in my opinion and not spicy at all, my friend had the stone fruit cosmopolitan which is apparently their sweetest drink and it wasn't sweet at all, it was also watery and bitter which is OK but not what we asked for. Still enjoyed our time at The Gage and might come back to try the food but I would probably just stick to Cindy's rooftop a few feet from The Gage for our drinks. read more

We had a great meal at the Gage before the Pandemic, so I came back here as soon as I landed in Chicago. It turned out to be a great idea. I was wooed again by the fine food. There were lots of diners both indoors and outdoors when we arrived. The atmosphere ranged from quiet to lively depending on where you sat. The prices were reasonable for a Michelin restaurant. The service was efficient and nice. We ordered: 5* Venison Burger-melted onions, fire-roasted jalapeños, young arugula, horseradish mayo, hook's white cheddar on a brioche bun: tasted like beef to me, a very good burger. We asked for salad instead of fries. 4.5* Steak Frites-wood-grilled bavette steak, mâitre d' butter, crispy fries: medium rare, very good. New American spot on Michigan Ave- there is a decent sized patio along, covered, along the street but you can't make reservations for the patio just indoors. We had an indoor reservation and opted to wait a few extra minutes for a patio table which was lovely. Service was not rushed but attentive. The food was good but you're paying the surcharge for being in a tourist heavy area. The lobster roll was tasty, not too much dill and a lot of lobster meat I was pleasantly surprised. The pork belly Benedict was good but quite rich, we all felt a different cheese to cut some of the heavy creaminess could have helped. The pub scotch egg was quite nice, there is an apple mostarda which brings a nice flavor to the sausage/egg flavors. Again a relatively rich and dense brunch food. The star for me was the Brussels sprout tartine which was similar to a bruschetta but Brussels instead of tomatoes. My party of three flew in from different locations for a girls' weekend, and we were looking forward to a relaxed, enjoyable dining experience. Unfortunately, we felt rushed from the moment we sat down. The bill was placed on our table within 50 minutes -- before I had even finished my first cocktail. One of our guests, who didn't bring her purse so had no ID with her, was never offered a non-alcoholic drink beyond water. The food was fine, but I wasn't able to finish mine because our server repeatedly hovered and interrupted our conversation to ask if I was done, even though it was clear I'd only eaten half. We had reservations for the Gage and ended up going early to get out of the crowds on the streets. As I sat at the bar I noticed every bartender and staff person were on point. They handled every patron with kindness and most excellent service!!! They were slinging drinks faster than a leprechaun chasing a rainbow! Dinner was great! Made a reservation in advance for brunch on a Saturday a few days back. We had a party of 9 so I had to call in for a reservation but it was really easy to get one if you call like 3-4 days in advance. I really liked the interior design and setting of the restaurant - it gave off an industrial feeling. We all weren't too hungry so we ordered a few items to share. We ordered 2 sandwiches, 2 slow braised pork belly Benedict's and a lemon ricotta pancake. The best thing from this meal was the lemon ricotta pancake. I still dream about this! Please don't sleep on this pancake if you see it on the menu. I felt the Benedict's were good at first but eventually the hollandaise sauce became overwhelming and the fattiness from the pork made it more difficult to finish the last few bites of it. I did not try the sandwich but was told it was good. Overall, nice vibes and great service! I would come back again to try out the dinner menu. read more

I dined here before going to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on a date. I ordered the classic burger, an 8 oz prime blend served on a brioche bun. I decided to add an egg and bacon, and it was a juicy combination. I gave my fries to my date, who ordered the Prime Ribeye with blistered heirloom cherry tomatoes. He let me try the steak, and I have to say it was even more flavorful than the burger! The steak didn't even need the bordelaise or horseradish cream it came with--it was that good. Our waiter wasn't that friendly and the seating was uncomfortable so I give it 4 stars. A word of advice: make a reservation if you're planning to go on a Thursday evening during the summertime. Without one, you might end up rocking back and forth on bar stools at a tall table near the entrance outside or waiting about an hour for an indoor table. We ate quickly, and I was glad I had a cloth napkin to put over my lap since I was wearing a short dress. Even though we were only there for a happy hour, they really seemed attentive to our table and checked in on us constantly to make sure everything was as we expected. Food/Drink: The drinks were phenomenal-- strong and perfumed with well done garnishes. Not too sweet. The truffle fries were average-- definitely dressed with a nice truffle oil, but lacked garnishing. The ranch sauce needed some more lemon/lime. There are better versions in the city.
