The Town Duck (I love that name!) used to be at the other end of the street in Old Town Warrenton - the new location gives them more room and it's a lot easier to find what you are looking for - the old location felt like a cave. Lots of home decor and housewares stuff here. Dishes, plates, decorations, as well as a nice wine selection, specialty foods: sauces, jellies, jams, syrups, honey, spices, dips, and other munchables. I love shopping in Old Town Warrenton but will not set foot in Town Duck again. Their customer service has always been a bit shaky but my last visit there over Memorial Day weekend was terrible. No one spoke a single word to me or my shopping companions-not a welcome to our store or asking us if we needed help and I guess that's ok if that's how you want to run your store. However, my adult daughter was interested in purchasing some cheese from the fresh cheese case and was not just ignored but was actually snubbed. After standing there for several minutes, the man behind the counter gave her a quick glance and continued to talk to some folks who were apparently old friends from out of town but were not purchasing anything. When I noticed that no one was waiting on her, I walked over thinking that if two people were standing there, he would ask us if we needed help. Not only did he not approach us in any way, he actually walked away from the cheese case into another part of the store and left us standing there while he continued his conversation. We waited another minute or two then took the hint and left the store without buying the items I had in my hand to purchase. It worked out ok for us though as that gave us more money to spend in the adorable book store next door. Town Duck, you lost 4 customers that day as none of us will be back. read more

It is hit or miss in Warrenton if you get any sort of customer service in stores, much less friendly service. That said, The Town Duck was a perfect experience. The woman let me browse around a bit, then asked if I needed anything in particular, I explained I was looking for local products for a gift. She provided me with all sorts of gourmet goodies. It was great. Jam and candy and crackers and sparkling beverage and honey and on and on. I left with about 15 locally produced items. They have lots of interesting things and the prices are in line with other gourmet type shops. I had passed by the old store for years and never ventured in because it looked like someone else said, a cave. This store is bright and cheery. I will go back again and again. read more

The Town Duck has been a Warrenton institution for many years now, & it's nice to see them in a new & much more spacious spot. I hadn't visited them since last winter, & at first assumed, devastatingly, that they had closed their doors. Luckily I had the foresight to ask someone who pointed me to their new location. When I mentioned this to the Duck folks, they said that unfortunately the landlord/ leasing agent/whoever at the old spot refused to allow them to post a sign there(which is still empty) directing folks to their new spot. Shame on you landlord/leasing agent/whoever!!! Anyway, this is the perfect spot for picking up a novel housewarming or hostess gift, putting together a gourmet gift basket (which is what I was doing), or making a nice wine &/or cheese selection. I did notice, however, that the gourmet food items seem to have taken a bit of a back burner to housewares since last year. Customer service is still optimum. The wonderful young woman who assisted me suggested I walk back to my vehicle (parked several blocks uptown) & pull up in front of the store where she ran out & loaded my 2 large bags of goodie basket purchases, thus saving me a dicey walk with two very heavy bags of merchandise. Prices are in line with any little gourmet-type food/gift shop, & it's definitely a shop worth patronizing. read more

This is a lovely store with great gift ideas you don't find anyplace else. Before Christmas I bought an advent calendar with amazing Austrian chocolates. They also have a very in depth wine department. Each week they also take orders for fresh seafood. It's definitely worth checking out. read more

This was my first time in Old Town Warrenton and we went into The Town Duck. My daughter was smelling different types of soaps to pick out something for her 12th birthday next week. The woman working the store snapped at her and told her not to open the bottles to smell them. I was with her the entire time and not being disruptive or damaging the products in any way; just smelling to make sure she got something she liked. I guess we aren't the type of clientele they are looking for for their store because we certainly didn't receive the excellent customer service others included in their reviews. read more

We have enjoyed shopping at The Town Duck for a few years. I first visited the shop in 2013. I always walk out with something, usually at least one bottle of wine and some of the great variety of cheeses they have. The staff have been wonderful. When we got married in 2015, this is where we got all of our wine and champagne for a dinner reception we had for about 55 people. I took my menu in and they helped me pick several wines to compliment everything and we got champagne I actually liked (I don't care for champagne as much). They were awesome! read more

Shopping at the The Town Duck is a must when visiting Old Town Warrenton! Every time I go in there I see something new that I have to have! They are always bringing in new wines, food, kitchen gadgets, decor, scarfs, etc! They are a great place for hostess, birthday, and Christmas gifts especially if you're looking for something unique or local! My favorite gift to give is one of their custom made baskets/trays! Pick out the items, be it food, wine, themed, etc... And they'll wrap it up beautifully! It's my go-to for the person that has everything! read more

The packaging was disgusting. If you get a box from them, don't open it in your house. The weirdest packing peanuts, made of some sort of weird terrible material. They break apart into millions of little pieces and then relentlessly stick to everything. Made quite a mess and took a long time to clean up. read more
