We sat on a lovely blue bench outside while waiting for a table during one of the busiest nights of the week. We were seated quickly by Kaiko, a very kind young man. Even while waiting, service was great, other workers were always checking up on us. We got the Porter and it was delectable. Trivia was electric, but more difficult than anticipated. At the bar, one of the barbacks Lohi was very personable, and took great care of us. We will definitely be back!!!

We had already eaten before stopping in, so next time we come in to try more of their brews, and we'll sample their food too!

Usually, they'll ask how you want steak cooked, but they didn't. So I assumed that the chef had a recommendation, such as medium and didn't think anything of it until it came out. It was rare and too fatty. I definitely expected a much better steak for $58. I ended up packing it up in a to-go box and will reheat it in my airfryer at home. We don't plan to come back.

They have a small parking lot right in front of the place and Apple street parking and other parking nearby. There's even a food truck that parks close by on weekends if you want something to snack on. They also sell chips and beer nuts. It's not my kind of place but definitely worth checking out if you are into a authentic dive bar experience.

There were a few side parking stalls along the right wall of the restaurant, otherwise you would need to find street parking. There's a nearby 24 hour municipal parking lot and it's still a quarter of 20 minutes. This restaurant is not in the main Kailua town area. If you haven't been to Kailua, Kailua is a nice town to try all these different restaurants. You be surprised and pleased. They are closed on Monday & Tuesday. Brunch is on weekends from 9 am to 1 pm. Otherwise they open from Wednesday thru Sunday from 4pm to closing at 9pm and on Friday & Saturday nights they are opened til 11pm.

What a beautiful place. Super chill. Had the slushy margarita. Really good. The barista said that they juice locally grown limes every day. And they use premium tequila. It shows in the taste. They also have a "secret" cold brew espresso martini. I would not have know about it if not for the two ladies in front of me ordering it. I love going to Solar Shack! The staff is super friendly and helpful, the food is amazing (I get the veggie burrito with an iced matcha latte) and the aesthetic is super rad. Lots of outdoor seating available. It's always a good time there and the staff make sure to make you feel like you're a part of the Solar Shack ohana. When this location first opened, it felt like a true community gathering place. The staff were welcoming, cheerful, and knew many of their regular customers by name. I looked forward to coming in, and as a local artist, I was grateful to have my artwork displayed there during Christine's time as manager. Unfortunately, my experience changed dramatically after the management changed. As a longtime customer, I personally noticed a decline in consistency and quality after the management changed. Drinks and food no longer met the standard I had come to expect, while prices increased. Over time, I felt increasingly singled out and treated differently. Communication became tense and disrespectful, and I no longer felt welcome. My final experience was especially disappointing. I purchased a coffee that contained a significant amount of coffee grounds. I politely requested a refund, which was provided, and with the cashier's permission, I poured the coffee into the sink because I did not want both the coffee and the refund. The following day, I returned as a paying customer and was told that I was no longer welcome and would be refused service. I was also told that I had "injured the staff," yet when I respectfully asked what that meant, no one would explain it to me. To this day, I still do not know what I was accused of doing. Because I genuinely cared about this business, I wrote a respectful letter to ownership asking for clarification and review. Weeks have now passed, and I have not received any acknowledgment or response. This review is not written out of anger but out of disappointment. I believe customers deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, and clear communication, especially when serious accusations are made or a decision is made to refuse service. I sincerely hope ownership reviews how situations like this are handled so that no other longtime customer experiences the same confusion and hurt that I did. Living in Hawaiʻi, the Aloha spirit is more than a greeting--it reflects kindness, respect, and hospitality. Sadly, over the years after the management change, I felt that this spirit was no longer reflected in my experiences there. My hope is that Kalapawai Market Waimanalo will continue to be a place where every customer and community member feels welcomed and respected. Farewell. I leave with many good memories of what this place once was, and I hope one day others will experience that same welcoming spirit again.

The salad had too much dressing and was missing the "crunchy garbanzo crisps" and arugula lettuce that the menu's description listed. The garlic shrimp was dry and overcooked, and the steak was very rare. The best things we had were the coconut shrimp and pianonos. I was very disappointed with the steak. I couldn't eat it. Usually, they'll ask how you want steak cooked, but they didn't. So I assumed that the chef had a recommendation, such as medium and didn't think anything of it until it came out. It was rare and too fatty. I definitely expected a much better steak for $58. I ended up packing it up in a to-go box and will reheat it in my airfryer at home. We don't plan to come back.
