If you know what to order, go for the Triple Surf Combo: garlic shrimp, furikake salmon, and poke. Solid choices all around. The cranberry duck with mashed potatoes was a special and ended up being a good call. Butterfish was good, and while the ahi katsu was tasty, it was a bit on the dry side for me. You get two sides, and it seems most people go with a starch and a veggie -- easy way to customize your plate. You can also upgrade your sides, which opens up even more options. We have eaten here 4 times in the last month-pleasant casual indoor and outdoor restaurant. Food : we like the chicken and pork dishes, and the papaya salad. Our friends like the haupia pie dessert and the potatoes. The best times to eat here are: Tuesday lunch -they have 4 special price dishes or Wednesday lunch-they have 4 special price sandwiches. All of these choices are tasty. Service :always has been pleasant and efficient Facility -the inside is open, casual but we like to eat outside. Searched on Yelp for a lunch recommendation after hiking in the area. We arrived a little after 12, and parked in lot close by. They have indoor and outside seating. One wanted to set inside. The interior has a relaxed vibe with some artist works on the walls for sale. We were seated right away and received our menus. Two of us ordered the Mochiko Garlic Chicken salad and one ordered the Mochiko Garlic Chicken entree. The salads were fresh and the chicken was nicely prepared an ono. Came here for a birthday lunch, was pretty quiet at 11:30am when we arrived. Service: our server was really lovely but could tell she was a little flustered running around. There seemed to be only two servers and our bill was very late to arrive when we asked for it at the end. Food: very fresh and the garlic fries were great. However portions were on the small side, my Kalbi salad was tiny on the Kalbi but decent on the salad. My friend said the ceviche was tasteless and not worth $18 portion wise. My other friend had a large portion of pork but disappointed in lack of kale. Price: not too bad for Kailua but inconsistent with portion size. A good place for lunch. Service staff were nice, but a bit slow, probably due to a staff shortage or that they got busy. Food was good though. I had their Orange Duck Confit which was very tasty & moist, crispy on the outside. (Supposedly this dish was on the DDD show). My friends had the Seared Ahi Salad & Beef Tomato; both looked good. Parking is either metered street or at two lots; one a block away front facing the restaurant & the other in back of the restaurant which has a big sign, Public Parking. I'd recommend the Public Parking one as it is only 75 cents an hour, but the old meter (& I mean old) only takes coins. My friends parked in the other lot which they said was a little more expensive; maybe $1.50 an hour? Note - make sure you put enough coins in the meter as they do come around & check. My Hawaiian friend took me here and we had some late lunch together. We share all food we order; steak is ok, ceviche is not my test. I just don't like that they put coconut to everything. Saw the high ratings for the windward side eatery in Kailua and had to give it a try and the food was awesome! We couldn't pass up the Red Curry Fish which consisted of fresh local ahi topped with Thai red curry and a heaping side of rice and green papaya salad. The plate lived up to expectations. This spot is great for groups, it was super convenient to make an online reservation and it's great that they automatically split the bill for each person and added an 18% gratuity. I really appreciated that they kept every order so organized. The parking is not as convenient but there are a few paid street parking spots up front and a few public paid lots a short walk away. We were celebrating so we each had a few drinks. I started with their strawberry mango marg and was obsessed that they had half the rim lined with tajin and the other half with li hing mui! We also had a celebratory glass of bubbly - we love a fun toast! I ordered the seared ahi with ginger scallion and with most entrees you're able to choose from white rice, brown rice, and another choice of sides like korean sprout salad, kimchi, and mac salad. I went with their brown rice and korean sprout salad. The sides are where it really fell short for me, both had a kinda mushy acidic taste. I tried a few bites of the spicy ahi poke and pork (kalua pig) combo and the fish curry and overall it was okay- no dish really stood out flavor wise and the textures kinda all read mushy. Came here today for a lunch date. I thought the service was fantastic! The food was just meh. I had ahi burgers as they seemed like they'd be decent. How is this place not rated higher? My wife had the Kalbi with white rice and Kim chi, and I had the Salmon Fukake with brown rice and salad. We shared each other's food to get a sense of the range of tastes. We often do that. Easily the best meal we've eaten while on Oahu...and that's saying something. We've been sticking to local food and avoiding the tourist traps, and haven't had a bad meal yet. And while this place hasn't the simple wholesomeness of a plate lunch, nevertheless the main courses here excellent. We had the Lilikoi cheesecake, and it was good, but not great. That doesn't cost place a star, though. The waitress-Tina-was fast, efficient, gregarious and very sweet. We'd eat here again, and will, if we get back here again. read more

After our excursion to Kailua, we were on the hunt for lunch. Per Li Y's suggestion, we came to Uahi Island Grill! It was a great option to kick back, eat, and talk story. The restaurant embodies a local spot with a spacious inside area, beach decor, and a relaxed vibe to it. There's also outdoor seating. Plenty of seating for both spots for all party sizes. Service was slammed but we were helped throughout our meal and our food came out fast. We shared Furikake Calamari as our appetizer which came with a sweet spicy sriracha sauce. It was good but I couldn't taste any furikake which I was excited about. To order, I had the Kalua Pork and Kale while she got the Orange Duck Confit. The portions were quite large and I had half of mine. The kalua pig was super tender and juicy. The kale was great and honestly tops the typical cabbage. My only wish was that there was more kale! You could choose two sides, I went with White Rice and Mac Salad. I'd pass on the mac salad as it was too creamy while the white rice was just too much. There are plenty of eateries in Kailua but if you're looking for a laid-back spot for any meal, Uahi Island Grill is a good option. When it's good, it's 5 stars great. When it's not, it's either teeny tiny portions, uncooked or soooo salty that it's close to being inedible. I don't know if they have a revolving door of chefs, but we've been coming to Uahi for many years now. We keep coming back because when their food is good (maybe when the right chef is working that night), their food is delicious. Favorites are the curry chicken, confit duck and irie chicken. Over the past year though, there have been 3 occasions that have hugely disappointed us. The first occasion just pertained to their watercress side dish. I love this so I always order a double order. This time, it was truly inedible. It was like whoever made it just dumped a bowl of salt into the watercress without even tasting it. This was a take out order, so I was at home and just scraped it into a bowl of water to attempt to wash off the salt. That didn't work so I threw it out and was left with only chicken to eat. The second time that disappointed was when my curry fish wasn't fully cooked through. Again, we were at home, so I threw it in the microwave to cook it through. I know it's fish, so it would have been safe to eat it raw, but the partially cooked just didn't fit with the curry format preparation. The last and most recent disappointment, was ordering the irie chicken and opening the container to find just 5 measly slices of chicken. I love this chicken and have ordered this entree many times in the past. The servings have always been generous - - - generous enough to even have leftovers for lunch the next day. Not this time. This time I'd say the portion looked like someone had helped themselves to most of my dinner before we even picked it up. We mainly order take out so unfortunately we don't discover issues until we get home and start eating. At this point, it's honestly too much of a hassle to pack things back up to take back. Maybe it's our own fault for continuing to go back, but like I said, when their food is good, it's great. Maybe when we pick up our order, we should open every container and take a bite of everything before we leave. It would be better if they could just be consistent. We usually give it a break for a bit when we're disappointed, then when we're craving the duck or curry fish or the chicken, we give it a try again and hope we've hit them on one of their good nights. I'd also like to mention that I have talked to the staff about this and every time I've been met with apathy. One person said to me that she only works there part time so maybe that's how it's supposed to be. Another person on the phone just said "oh, sorry . . . so do you want to place your order or not?". It's a crap shoot, but if you hit them on a good night, you'll love your dinner! read more

Our server Christina was so friendly and kind. She's also efficient and love how she checked upon us from time to time. They also got outside dining as well so I suggest to opt for that one. Food: Irie Chicken (Jamaican spiced grilled boneless chicken) w/ Green Papaya Salad - unfortunately it was so salty for me. I keep sipping my drink just to balance my taste. The chicken meat was a lil bit dry as well. The brown rice was a little bit mushy and needs to cook a little bit more. The green papaya on the other hand was good and tasty. French Fries - t'was cooked perfectly. So crunchy from the outside and so soft from the inside. Gave us two kinds of dipping sauce & was all good. They did a good job on the fries. One word... GARLIC CHICKEN! I was told to check out this place by one of the locals if I wanted try some great Hawaiian inspired dishes. I happened to stumble in during happy hour, and they have amazing deals on Pupu's (appetizers) and drinks! I tried the garlic chicken, which is an absolute must! So delicious and full of flavor. The service was absolutely amazing. Great recommendations. I loved sitting outside and enjoying the fresh air and outdoor ambience. I also ordered the curry fish dish which is also amazing but quite an adjustment after experiencing the explosion of flavor from the garlic chicken. This is a really nice place in Kailua. The food is super delicious and has a chill hangout vibe. A great place to come with friends or order takeout too! I've eaten in and gotten takeout from here and everything has always been so delicious. The people are very friendly as well. The fries are good with their aioli sauce. We also got the Parmesan truffle fries and those are super delicious as well. The kalua pig and kale is my go-to. The portion is really large. It comes with two side that you can choose from also.
