I worked in Concord back in the late 80s, and would regularly eat at the Gas Lighter. That was a long time ago! I had recently been wondering how the Gas Lighter was holding up, and decided to take my wife there for lunch today. Boy, what a pleasant surprise! My wife is a second generation Greek American, and we both know Greek home cooking. We started by splitting a bowl of their Avgolemono Soup (chicken rice lemon); the absolute best we have ever had! We both ordered the Lamb Gyro, and it was delicious! The Tsadziki sauce was wonderful...loaded with garlic, and the Gyro serving was very generous. The French Fries were also good, crisp, but not greasy at all. My wife had Onion Rings with her Gyro... home made, lightly breaded, and very tasty. The desserts were next. They offered Baklava, Greek Rice Pudding, and Galatobouriko (a very special treat, made with crispy phyllo dough, and a firm custard, with a syrup). I had the Rice Pudding. My wife had the Galatobouriko. Both were delicious! The Owner/Chef, Soula, is very friendly, and the restaurant was very comfortable, clean, and inviting. Very nice staff! The Gas Lighter can lay claim to being the first Greek restaurant in Concord. Oh...and the beer IS the coldest in Concord! We'll be back! read more

Classic small town local restaurant. Not the most up to date inside but food is fresh made and good. Park on street. I had the chicken gyro. Meat is not made on the rotisserie spit, it's chunks on the grill. Tasted great and the Tzatziki sauce is fresh made, classic style, and tasted good. Portion was smaller than other places I've been, but I am ok with that. Only downfall, for some, is a limited beer selection. read more

Had dinner here, food choices were good. Prices were reasonable. Beer selection minimal but cold! Food was brought out very quick. Good portions and tasty. Waitress very friendly. I know this restaurant has been business for 50 years and the outside was recently done over but the inside desperately needs a remodeling. Carpets were very stained and are probably original and so are the bathrooms. We'll probably be back as they ran out of lamb 3 days ago. Want to try a lamb dish next time. Their power had just come back on after being out for a while earlier in the day. We would have had no indication they had anything out of the ordinary but for overhearing another table talking about it. It wasn't immediately clear if we needed to wait to be seated, but the woman cooking the food greeted us with a smile and said to sit anywhere. We grabbed a table in the middle of the restaurant and were promptly greeted by our server. We ordered and told the server we were going to share a couple dishes and she put our order in. First out was the soup which had the best lemon flavor ever. One of my favorite dishes in any Greek establishment, hands down. The chicken gyro (not pictured because we eagerly devoured it) came on two plates because we were sharing. We loved the flavor of the chicken and the robust portion. Everything was served hot and we loved it. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Concord. It's easy to see why this restaurant has had such staying power here. The only thing we didn't love was the 3% surcharge for paying by card. We weren't told there was going to be an upcharge for using a card and would've paid cash otherwise. The atmosphere was atypical of a Greek restaurant, but it was clean and the service was great. Can't recommend this place enough. read more

Been many times, food is always good. That said I am a very negative person when I see an service fee added on for a CC or anything else. That being said I will not return until I know they are not adding a fee for CC. Bury the cost in the food, heck most everyone pays with CC or debit, suck it up and put the fees in the cost like most everyone else does, then you can enjoy the extra from the few times when you do get a cash customer. read more

Man, this place is really old school. I wanted to grab something quick and good to eat before I headed out of Concord to beat the snowstorm. I made a stop at The Gas Lighter, which serves up Greek American comfort food. Step inside and it's one open room with bar counter seating with open grill/food prep area and table seating, for up to 60 people. The classic atmosphere inside reminds me of a bar back in the early 1980s with the exception of the large flatscreen mounted on the back wall. The walls are decorated with beer signs, Boston sports, and framed pictures of Greece. There are 3 beers on tap (Bud, Coors Light, Sam Adams), several bottled beers, and Pepsi fountain drinks. The menu offers sandwiches, Syrian pockets, grinders, burgers, hot dogs, omelettes, salads, soups, fries, onion rings, comfort dishes (teriyaki, souvlaki, gyros, liver & onions, chicken fingers) and desserts (baklava & rice pudding). I decided on the Gyros ($7.95) served with French fries. I watched my food being made, the flatbread and meat grilled to order and frozen fries cooked in the deep fryer. The good sized Gyros was very good and filling, stuffed with meat, tomatoes, raw onions, and homemade tzatziki sauce with cucumbers & yogurt, which was creamy and very garlicky, I could smell it! The cook mentioned, "I hope you don't have a hot date tonight because our sauce is homemade and has lots of garlic." I reply, "Hehe, no date tonight, I just wanna enjoy this and get the heck out of Dodge before the snow hits the roads." Don't get me wrong, I love garlic, but too much can throw off my schedule with not so stellar breath. Altoids anyone? The gyros became messy to eat with lots of that garlicky tzatziki sauce, very tasty nonetheless. The fries were standard fare, just okay. I was all good to go for my drive back home along I-93 South. The snow started to really come down as I drove through Manch, but made it home okay with really strong garlicky breath. Listerine time! Overall, 3.5 STARS. read more

Last time tried to add fries to sandwich online menu says $1 .. placed order got charged $4 .. said online menu was mistake.. but they never tell you this when ordering over phone. We were looking for a lunch place open for lunch at 3pm, surprisingly hard to find in Concord! Looked on Yelp and this place popped up as open and sounded perfect for us. First of all, it's on North Main St. so we easily found a free parking space right outside. Inside we found a place that time forgot! Anyone in their 50's will feel a sense of nostalgia as this place has probably looked the same for the past 40 years! Menu is simple, basic, but plentiful with sandwiches, salads, and Greek style items. They seem to offer a good breakfast, too. We ordered sandwiches and they arrived fast and good! Prices are reasonable and service was quick! Give this place a try, keep in mind it's not fancy, it's not chic, it's simple and good! read more

I have driven by this place literally thousands of times and never stopped in, until last week when my companion and I wanted a late lunch. Overall we were quite pleased. My friend ordered the buffalo chicken tenders which she very much enjoyed. I opted for the pastrami sandwich with fries and a side of onion rings. Our server, Christine, was very friendly and nice. The food was delivered quickly... hot, fresh and was very good. The only exception were the onion rings which we both felt were a bit sub par. Neither of us drinks beer so I can't comment on that. The server, as I said, was pleasant enough but she did seem to be more interested in socializing with the regulars at another table. Overall, a pleasant experience at a fair price. The other half and I were on an errand in town this evening, and since it was verging on the dinner hour we meandered Yelp for dining options. He was thinking beef and I am an absolute aficionado of Greek food, so The Gas Lighter just made sense. There's not much to the place, one big room with a bar along one wall and seating all around (and parking has the potential to be challenging) but the staff was friendly and the beer was icy cold, so we got off to a great start. We both ended up ordering the gyro special, and oh was that a fabulous choice. Now, I will warn you this - their tzaziki is freshly house made and they are very fond of fresh garlic. To the point of zing and a tongue tingle. If you're there on a date, you'd best both eat it or bring some Listerine for later. Or both. That said, the other half and I absolutely adored it. Let's just say we didn't so much eat as we inhaled the gyros. They were just delicious. Now, on to the next thing that should be on your to try list: The Kataifi. Our server described it as baklava's less sweet cousin, which I would agree with. It looks vaguely cake like, with a top layer of whipped cream, a center of firm custard, and the bottom is shredded phyllo. Somewhere in there is a layer of nuts, and it's drenched in a thin spiced honey sauce. It's pretty much the best thing I've put in my face in recent memory and, if we hadn't been in public, we might have licked the plate. If it sounds even remotely tasty, try it. You won't regret it. Went to check this place out based on other reviews and I loved it. Very cozy home cookin atmosphere with good food and beer served in a chilled glass as it should be. I ordered one of the burgers and was wowed by how good it was. My girlfriend tried something new neither of us had heard of before and it blew us away. The staff is very friendly and willing to answer any questions about the menu with an honest opinion on whether or not you will like it. This place is an ol fav of my family. Dont let the outside scare you- the inside is quaint and cozy. The waitresses are the best, its a family owned business so they really give off this warm and friendly feel. The food is great, never have had a bad meal. While the fries are not hand made, they are still decent. Great gyros and greek food. The wife/owner makes the greek dishes, pastichio is the BEST! Even my boyfriend, who tends to stay away from those types of entrees love their roast beef grinders (which are HUGE). I can say that the portions are large and great for the money. One of our favourite local spots. This place has without doubt the COLDEST draft beer you will find anywhere - perfect for the end of hot summer day (okay, actually the end of any day.) The food is consistently good - their thinly sliced roast beef is outstanding any way you want it, but especially good in the syrian pocket. The place is unpretentious and comfortable, but the real strength of the Gas Lighter is the people who run it. read more
