    Greek chicken and rice
    Erika T.

Their power had just come back on after being out for a while earlier in the day. We would have had no indication they had anything out of the ordinary but for overhearing another table talking about it. It wasn't immediately clear if we needed to wait to be seated, but the woman cooking the food greeted us with a smile and said to sit anywhere. We grabbed a table in the middle of the restaurant and were promptly greeted by our server. We ordered and told the server we were going to share a couple dishes and she put our order in. First out was the soup which had the best lemon flavor ever. One of my favorite dishes in any Greek establishment, hands down. The chicken gyro (not pictured because we eagerly devoured it) came on two plates because we were sharing. We loved the flavor of the chicken and the robust portion. Everything was served hot and we loved it. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Concord. It's easy to see why this restaurant has had such staying power here. The only thing we didn't love was the 3% surcharge for paying by card. We weren't told there was going to be an upcharge for using a card and would've paid cash otherwise. The atmosphere was atypical of a Greek restaurant, but it was clean and the service was great. Can't recommend this place enough.

Man, this place is really old school. I wanted to grab something quick and good to eat before I headed out of Concord to beat the snowstorm. I made a stop at The Gas Lighter, which serves up Greek American comfort food. Step inside and it's one open room with bar counter seating with open grill/food prep area and table seating, for up to 60 people. The classic atmosphere inside reminds me of a bar back in the early 1980s with the exception of the large flatscreen mounted on the back wall. The walls are decorated with beer signs, Boston sports, and framed pictures of Greece. There are 3 beers on tap (Bud, Coors Light, Sam Adams), several bottled beers, and Pepsi fountain drinks. The menu offers sandwiches, Syrian pockets, grinders, burgers, hot dogs, omelettes, salads, soups, fries, onion rings, comfort dishes (teriyaki, souvlaki, gyros, liver & onions, chicken fingers) and desserts (baklava & rice pudding). I decided on the Gyros ($7.95) served with French fries. I watched my food being made, the flatbread and meat grilled to order and frozen fries cooked in the deep fryer. The good sized Gyros was very good and filling, stuffed with meat, tomatoes, raw onions, and homemade tzatziki sauce with cucumbers & yogurt, which was creamy and very garlicky, I could smell it! The cook mentioned, "I hope you don't have a hot date tonight because our sauce is homemade and has lots of garlic." I reply, "Hehe, no date tonight, I just wanna enjoy this and get the heck out of Dodge before the snow hits the roads." Don't get me wrong, I love garlic, but too much can throw off my schedule with not so stellar breath. Altoids anyone? The gyros became messy to eat with lots of that garlicky tzatziki sauce, very tasty nonetheless. The fries were standard fare, just okay. I was all good to go for my drive back home along I-93 South. The snow started to really come down as I drove through Manch, but made it home okay with really strong garlicky breath. Listerine time! Overall, 3.5 STARS.

Wonderful little lunch stop!…read more It was full of locals and regulars and on a wait for lunch. At that moment I knew I had picked a good spot! We chilled with the folks up front for a good bit before getting a table. It seemed we were the only people that had not been here 30-40 times before. Most people didn't even want menus and the sweet server ladies just brought them food without conversation at all. It's kind of old school feeling inside. It's an open kitchen and you can see all of the action. Inside is all wooden and rustic. It reminds me of my grandmas house in Camden TN. Not sure why. It's just really comfortable in here to me. The tile and fireplaces make super cozy. This place has some of the best chili that I have had in a long time. I dig the fact they give tortilla shops automatically with the chili. Win!! Thick and meaty and oh so filled with spice and love!! Cheese on top was a nice touch too. Really liked it! My French dip was fucking killer!! So damn big too! I could only eat half of it because of the the fire ass chili I had already eaten. French fries were battered type. Nothing wrong with that!! I drove around with this sandwich for two days of travel and ate it on the road later. Stupendous French dip!! C had an open faced roast beef sandwich. FIRE!! The green beans were so pretty and fresh too. She could barely get 1/3 down, lol. It was a ton of food. Economical! Hometown feel! Good people working and eating here! I love it!! I'm not even sure I could find the place again. I sure am glad I did the first time! '26 -39

This place is great. It's pricey...so be prepared for that…read more My brother got the avocado toast, ( I think thats what it was) and loved it. I didn't get any food. I ordered a smoothie. Banana/strawberry and holy shit it was incredible!!! I. LOVED. IT!!! Damn it was good. I think it was like $12 tho? Am I crazy to think...meh, it's ok, (the price) I was on a holiday and you are supposed to enjoy whatever? haha!! I would normally never spend that much on a freaking smoothie! HOWEVER! Once we got into Manchester, VT....we saw another The Works Bakery...I SHO DID get another one lol. I was surprised to see that this place is a chain. When we were in Concord...it kind of felt like this was a place exclusive to Concord. Nah, it's not. Thats ok tho. I got a smoothie at a coffee house in just outside Bar Harbor and it was absolute garbage. So it was nice to have one where they actually have you what you ordered. Most places in Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire all allow dogs. I travel with my little Yorkie wherever I go. Alfred loves to travel haha! He is my child...seeing as I do not have any human kids. My dog is my life. So it's nice when you go into places and they welcome dogs. This place....does not tho. Thats boooo! HOWEVER! I TOTALLY understand! I TRULY do! I travel with my dog everywhere, but yes, I do realize this place is a restaurant and they all have their rules. I just love restaurants that allow dogs haha! I am not one of those psychos that will tear a place apart about not allowing dogs. I am one who actually respects policies like this. And yes, I bring my dog with me bc it's just me...and my dog. He is a 6lb Yorkie who I will never leave alone nor would I ever kennel him. I say all this bc so many people out there judge others who bring their dogs everywhere. He is a family member. He comes with me. Just go to this place wherever you run into one. It really is a great place. They were all SO nice in there even when they asked my take Alfie back outside. OH for the record too...I carry my little man everywhere with me. He's not like...running around everywhere...marking his territory lol Atmosphere in this location is very nice. Kinda dark and Lodgy feeling. Its nice. Located too in what I am assuming is a historic building. Noce view of the downtown area too if you take you lunch or whatever outside to their outdoor seating...which I am guessing is probably brought in now...seeing as it is almost December. Ok thats it. I know I rambled a lot here, but I feel it all fits with my review. I ramble a lot to begin with. If you read this...thank you! If you didn't...I will sleep in 5 mins and sleep like a baby :) Thank you The Works for a wonderful first experience. I live in Idaho. Wish we had you here. Thanks for reading YelperWorkers! The place was packed and it was clear why since for the price and what you got, it is probably the best sandwich place around.
