Just really good solid diner food. I enjoy going here. Great parking in the back. Not a diner that's open for dinner. But that's ok. The staff puts in a long day and work hard. Most memorable meal I've had was the cherezo omelet which is very tasty. The bathroom was clean. Usually a good sign. The cooking area was a 6 for cleanliness I'd say. I was very impressed with this place, however, I didn't care for European seating style when they're busy. We sat next to this couple who kept talking very loud about inappropriate things when my children were with us. Also, i don't like that I cannot get tortillas instead of toast. The Geneva Diner is easily one of the best diners that is still in existence in Illinois. It is a small yet comfortable space with friendly service, low prices and exceptional food. I dine here often for lunch. The Philly, deep fried cod and Reuben sandwiches are my typical go-to's. For a late breakfast I typically hit a skillet or omelette with the gusto of a starved farmer. Cute little Greek-owned ham and egger place with a small old feel diner appeal. This place is tucked off the side of downtown Geneva and has booths and a classic look from the Tv show Alice. The gyros though was not really good like one would get at various grease joints and the gyrs did not taste like it was from Greece. I stopped in for breakfast around 9:30 AM on a Saturday. The place was pretty full for breakfast, I was alone, and asked if I could just sit at the counter. The hostess said that was ok and I sat down. She immediately wiped the counter, brought me table service and asked if I wanted something to drink. I asked for coffee and she brought me a cup of fresh, hot coffee quickly and left me a menu. I ordered the chorizo skillet. I sipped my coffee and the order came fairly quickly. She filled my coffee cup and checked back in a few minutes. The skillet was not massive, but a good portion, with choice of toast. The chorizo was just spicy enough, along with the jalapeno peppers. Delicious food for a very reasonable price in this town that has a lot of upscale shopping. read more

If you're interested in friendly atmosphere then this classic example of a small town diner is right for you. It's the type of quaint diner you see in movies - the usual locals reading their paper, drinking black coffee, and discussing daily events, the lone waitress saying "hi" with a wide smile and calling you "hon." Sweet. The food is inexpensive and the quality of the food reflects this. It's the kind of place you want to visit if you have an old friend you want to catch up with. And you WILL catch up because you'll have to wait an extremely long time to have your food served. When I say "long" I mean - bring the book Moby Dick. I understand we live in a Mcdonalds age of service. We're used to quick service and almost expect it to happen everywhere. But is it asking too much not to wait 40 minutes for eggs and pancakes? This happens all the time. I support local businesses which is why I come here but I've waited one too many times for a simple order of steak n eggs. I've wasted many a lunch hour waiting for a cheeseburger. This place is not for me. It may be for others - perhaps those who have nothing better to do. Don't get me wrong - the diner has a sweet "Cheers" feel. Nice people talking crudely about Obama, and loudly too. But that's fine. Freedom of speech. I support that too. But I'm not here to eat atmosphere or smiles. I'm here to eat what's on the menu and if I have to wait more than a half hour for simple eggs and pancakes - then I'd rather go where everybody doesn't know my name. This place has won multiple awards. I don't deny them their awards. It might just be this town has a low standard of excellence. I guess this is why bronze is also an award at the olympics. This is not a gold star restaurant. It's a cozy dining experience. I admit it. I wrote many a poem here but not because I wanted to - but because I had to wait forever for a simple omelett. The people giving this place 5 star reviews are good people. They want to support their local diner, or maybe they're family members of the employees. I don't know. I want to support this place too which is why I'm not giving it 1 star. I am giving 2 stars for the atmosphere and warm lighting. I've lived in the area for 20+ years and when I want a traditional breakfast without alot of fuss I go to the Diner. The family still runs the place and they are very sweet and attentive. I usually just sit at the counter and read the paper or a book and chill.......it's great. read more

I don't know how there food nor do I care. There staff thinks it is ok for there customers to leave there dog tied up out in front in 90 degree heat with no water, and to swear and spit in children's face. Then tell me I am not welcome there. That is ok by me with such staff you could not pay me to eat there. I can't rate this any lower or I would. read more

Through the din of all the over rated breakfast places, the quaint, old school Geneva Diner never fails us. The food is appropriately priced, served hot and quickly. I love the steak and eggs!! The coffee is poured by the always friendly staff as often as I need it. I like to go in at 10 when I have a choice, as it is a diner, and can get a little busy at the normal breakfast hours. I have never waited long, however, no matter when I go in. I like the "regular crowd" of old guys that frequent the diner, as I can usually pick up some local news while I'm eating. Sit at the counter if you are a party of two or less. The sun shines in from the eastern exposure in the morning. read more

We have gone to the diner for many year, usually twice a month. The breakfast food is reliable, and if you like 'real' corned beef hash, it is the only place I know of serving it. The eggs are always as ordered and the family greets us with friendliness...something we find important, the food is reliable and substantial, even if the atmosphere is a little lacking. After trying many if the newer more upscale breakfast places, we always find ourselves going back to the tried and true! read more

Forget the typical spots. This is a hidden gem. Very modest. Very casual. A place with no pretense but great food. I had the club. It had abundance of meat and there was no skimping. Great! Went there on Friday 10/4 with 3 others in the group. There were 2 persons at the counter and no one at any tables in back which is where we were seated. Our waitress was quick to take our order, but the order took forever to arrive to our table (at least 30 minutes). If it was crowded, I'd understand, but with only 3 parties in the joint, umm way to long. While waiting I visited the restroom which was downstairs into a smelly basement, down a hallway then up a steep stair to get into the restroom. Grateful there wasn't a smoke/fire alarm!! I ordered a gyros sandwich with cole slaw. The cole slaw was watery, but ok tasting. The gyros was the worst I've ever had. I've ordered gyro's from a 'diner' type establishment before and they've all been very tasty. The meat (all 4 slices that didn't even cover the pita bread) was old, and cooked way to long - it was hard. Crunched when I cut it with the knife and fork. I returned it to the kitchen explaining to the waitress why I was returning it. I ordered a safe meal of scrambled eggs and toast. My meal was comped, but I'll never return there to eat. I will say however that the other 3 people in my party enjoyed their selections of eggs benedict and southwestern omelet. read more

My husband and I have been to this diner twice recently and we are returning tomorrow. We love the place! It is clean, the staff are friendly and efficient. Our waitress suggested the chicken fried steak and she was spot on. I am returning tomorrow and will order the same item. It is a large serving and comes with hash browns and eggs and english muffins. The vibe of the place is cheerful. Perfect little diner. Wouldn't change a thing. read more
