Those wanting to come in for lunch can get a few things. Has a pretty limited menu but there's enough. It's about $12 for a sandwich. We each got the Mediterranean Wrap. Best vegetarian choice. This has black olives, cucumbers, feta, lemon garlic hummus, red onions, romaine, roasted red peppers, and tzatziki. Filling. I got mine without the feta and tzatziki. Great choices for both meat eaters and plant based. There's roast beef and turkey among the meaty sandwiches along with various salads including egg and pasta. On a Sunday when the weather permits, we like to take a long stroll north and south along the Fox river. We'll wander up to St. Charles, through Mt. St. Mary's Park and then Wheeler Park in Geneva. We wind up on Third Street and head toward the train station and always stop at our favorite little lunch place--Deane's Market & Deli. Start off with the tomato basil soup--SO good! Then we'll often split a sandwich, such as the roast beef (with any number of variations for cheese, bread, sauce). There's a nice case of drinks--sodas, teas, lemonade, water--from which to choose, as well as little bags of kettle cooked chips, also with several varieties. You order at the counter, take a seat (but be forewarned, it can get busy), and then some young person will come by with a tray of your food. While you wait, you can peruse the super cute kitchen items for sale, including seasonal tschotches, dishes, bowls, bottles, linens--you never know quite what you'll find, but we often can't resist one thing or another. Anyway, sated and fortified, we head back across the river using the double bridge (pedestrian below, railroad above), through Island Park and then back home. It's our weekend ritual and we love it. So vibrant and inviting, hosting a variety of locally sourced items, including: honey, jams, and home goods. Although the menu isn't big, the food here is done right. I ordered a roasted chicken salad sandwich and half of a watermelon salad and my husband ordered a half Cajun chicken sandwich. We ordered it as it comes, because we believe the best way to try new food is to try it as intended; the way the chef believes the dish is at its best. All I can say is both sandwiches are crave worthy and the salad couldn't have been fresher. Since it is a deli style restaurant, the cashier both takes customers orders and accepts payment. The young lady today was cheerful, knowledgeable about all menu items and had a good sense of humor. She is a good face for the deli. Because the sandwiches, salads and soups are made to order the line can be long but the wait time is appropriate considering the attention to detail put into each item. Ultimately, we enjoyed our visit to Deane's and if we lived in town, it would become our go to place. I recently went in with my family and was super disappointed. We ordered a hummus wrap, a tuna salad and a roast beef sandwich, a bag of chips and a drink for $40! I wouldn't have been upset if it was decent quality but man was it depressing. My tuna salad was literally some chopped romaine that resembled garnish more than an actual salad, a few chopped tomatoes and a scoop of tuna salad. My husbands wrap was sad as well. The only item that was decent was my daughters roast beef sandwich - which was just meat and cheese. Came upon this deli shop in hopes of trying something new. Thought since it had good reviews that food would be just as good but was a big disappointment. Got a hummus wrap that was cold and on a plain ol white tortilla. Since this was my first visit maybe I should've asked to toast the wrap or person taking my order should've asked me if I would like it toasted. But the fact that they didn't makes me think they probably don't do that. Terrible! Who likes to eat a cold wrap. I could've made the same thing at home which would've tasted 100 times better. Sandi and I went here today with the coupon we had for Sandi's birthday. With this experience, I would definitely recommend this place for lunch or coffee. I chose the smoked pulled pork on brioche. The sandwich was excellent and not too large. I added a cup of the french onion soup and you can tell that it was homemade. We split one of their coffee cakes. It was delicious. The inside restaurant is much better than the outside tables. They have a nice mixture of pub tables as well as regular tables. The couch and over stuffed chairs looked very comfortable. Came here for lunch today and really enjoyed it! It's so much bigger than I thought and adorable inside. When you walk in there is a bunch of local products it looked like to choose from ranging from candles to dish-ware, hot sauce and so much more. The assistant taking our order was very welcoming and seemed like she was happy to be there which is always pleasant :) We got here at about 11AM on a Friday and there were only about two other tables taken. We were chatting away so we were there for an hour and it started to really fill up closer to noon. There were a bunch of seating available though so good to know if you come during the lunch rush. I had no idea what to get so I decided to try something on their seasonal menu. I chose the Thai salad and the dressing was my favorite part! It was light, sweet, and tasted homemade. The salad was filling and very colorful! I also loved the nuts on top. The entire menu was very affordable! Three of us dined in, each got a bottle of water, and our bill was under $30! Someone in our group got the roast beef sandwich and it looked incredible. I need to come back and try this out along with everything else on the menu. This restaurant has so much character and is an essential lunch spot. When you walk in there are cute kitchen/decorative items on sale along with different spices and cheeses! I got the artichoke and tomato grilled cheese and it was phenomenal! Staff was also very friendly and welcoming. In particular I really liked the art that the had in the restaurant as well, lots of photos of downtown Geneva/Batavia that are overlayed with photos from the 1800s. As a local it was cool to see the contrast of what is there now versus what was there in the past. Also lots of board games that you can borrow as well! Definitely will be coming again!:) read more

The entrance is a little hard to get in, they put a table in front of the door and once you put a chair there you have no room to open the door unless you ask the person eating to push his seat in. The inside was nice and quaint, I was there for a pickup order. I saw the sign for pickup and of course I went and stood under the sign to pickup my order. I stood there for probably 5 minutes, not a long time, but the issue I had was the four employees that walked past me, three of them were all talking to each other as they were making sandwiches. As I stood waiting another couple walked in and they were asked by the employees behind the counter if they needed anything, while I stood there still waiting for my pickup order. Finally I was asked by a young lady if I was waiting for something? if I had an order? I looked up at the pickup order sign and said yes I'm here for a pickup, the bag was sitting right there the whole time, and of course she read the name on the bag and asked if that was my order and yes it was. So my complaint was the whole time I stood there not one person said "we'll be with you in a minute" "are you here for a pickup order" Nothing at all I just felt like an idiot standing there listening to their conversations. I think they need to work on that a little bit. Now my sandwich and potato salad was outstanding, I ordered the Porchetta, delicious, The flavors were incredible, and the potato salad was also very good. Overall I gave it before because we atmosphere the food was all good They just need to work on greeting people. Very cute inside. I wish we could have eaten in but we opted for one of the outside tables. I had the half roast beef sandwich, which is pretty good size. The french roll was fabulous and so was the rest of the sandwich. I would have liked a little more horseradish sauce. Next time I will be sure to ask. I also had a side of the pasta salad. I really wanted to give Deane's 5-stars--especially for the decor. But it's hard to when our beet salad was so small in portion and a bowl of soup was over $7. The food here is always fresh tasting, unlike some of the chain places. I have had a few salads here, but it seems like they're mostly mixed greens, and little of the main ingredient. I had a tuna salad, the tuna itself was very good, but it was a small portion. The mixed greens were kind of bitter tasting, like eating dandelion leaves. I could hardly finish them, and ended up dumping them out. One time, I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich to go, only to get home, & see that the bread was burnt. Also, found that the minestrone soup was missing Parmesan cheese. I brought it back, & was told they don't put the cheese in the to-go soups, because it floats to the bottom. This made no sense to me, they always put cheese in the past. They made the sandwich over again, was still kind of burnt, but I didn't want to wait for another one. I think I'd like it better if they offered a small side to go with the sandwiches, like chips, fruit, etc. Otherwise, it's just too overpriced for what you get. read more
