It's very cutely decorated. The menu is really extensive and they have lots of vegetarian options for wrapped sandwiches, salads and soups. The service was really prompt and they do a really good job keeping track of all allergens and answering any questions you might have. Will definitely recommend as a great lunch spot!

Looking for something quick and easy and that won't break the bank, me and the fam stopped into Deane's. All the Yelp images looked good so I was sort of excited to check out the menu for myself. I had the smoked chicken salad plate, and I got to say it was a bit underwhelming. Maybe my expectations were too high but I was hoping for something more. It's not bad by any means, and as everything in the area is over priced, a quick and easy lunch is what to expect. The service was great, the people were kind and helpful. No complaints on the atmosphere or people.

So let's just say, now I understand what the buzz is all about. My husband and I decided to try this sandwich shop in Geneva, IL because we were in the area. What can I say, our hobby is trying local restaurants and supporting small businesses. Based on the previous reviews, I knew we should give Deane's Market & Deli a try. Deane's market is such a gem. So vibrant and inviting, hosting a variety of locally sourced items, including: honey, jams, and home goods. Although the menu isn't big, the food here is done right. I ordered a roasted chicken salad sandwich and half of a watermelon salad and my husband ordered a half Cajun chicken sandwich. We ordered it as it comes, because we believe the best way to try new food is to try it as intended; the way the chef believes the dish is at its best. All I can say is both sandwiches are crave worthy and the salad couldn't have been fresher. Since it is a deli style restaurant, the cashier both takes customers orders and accepts payment. The young lady today was cheerful, knowledgeable about all menu items and had a good sense of humor. She is a good face for the deli. Because the sandwiches, salads and soups are made to order the line can be long but the wait time is appropriate considering the attention to detail put into each item. Ultimately, we enjoyed our visit to Deane's and if we lived in town, it would become our go to place. However, even with the short drive, we will be returning to this super cute market and deli.

If you find yourself hungry while wondering in downtown Geneva, stop by Deane's Market & Deli for a quick bite. They offer a variety of artisan sandwiches, salads and soups. Bonus, they do have GF bread. We had: - Tomato Basil soup, which is GF. It is light creamy with distinct tomato flavor. However, it is a bit on the sweet side for my personal preference. - Roast beef Sandwich with GF bread. The bread seems to be homemade, and it is not dry or crumbly. Definitely a big plus! - Seasonal special roast pork with apple butter sandwich (1/2 order). The flavor combination of apple butter, roast pork and cheese are perfectly paired. We will come back again.

Love this place! Charming and cozy place for lunch! My go-to is the Caprese sandwich. PROS: -Local restaurant in downtown Geneva. -Lots of seating. -Quick service for dine in or carry out. -Caprese sandwich is delicious! Great blend of flavors. -Plenty of parking nearby. CONS: -A little pricey. -Everything a la carte. -Limited menu, especially for vegetarians. -Soups and side options are also limited.

Walking in you're immediately reminded that you're on sacred ground. 'Chicago's Best' has blessed Deane's with a PR move and a plaque to prove it! What does it take for this honor? Not sure, but I'm thinkin' it comes down to a middle-of-the-road 'Roast Beef' Sandwich (huh)?! Skimpy beefy portions and a copious amount of arugula apparently gets it done! Sadly, I needed a search party to find a few morsels of beef daintily tucked away under a mountain of bread, cheese and greens. Stick to the Tea & Crumpets, or maybe a trip to Arby's.

    Hummus wrap

Came upon this deli shop in hopes of trying something new. Thought since it had good reviews that food would be just as good but was a big disappointment. Got a hummus wrap that was cold and on a plain ol white tortilla. Since this was my first visit maybe I should've asked to toast the wrap or person taking my order should've asked me if I would like it toasted. But the fact that they didn't makes me think they probably don't do that. Terrible! Who likes to eat a cold wrap. I could've made the same thing at home which would've tasted 100 times better. Would've like wrap options. Staff was nice and polite. But for what they charge for sandwiches I expect better. See pic of my hummus wrap!

Sandi and I went here today with the coupon we had for Sandi's birthday. With this experience, I would definitely recommend this place for lunch or coffee. I chose the smoked pulled pork on brioche. The sandwich was excellent and not too large. I added a cup of the french onion soup and you can tell that it was homemade. We split one of their coffee cakes. It was delicious. The inside restaurant is much better than the outside tables. They have a nice mixture of pub tables as well as regular tables. The couch and over stuffed chairs looked very comfortable. I would suggest parking in back and coming through the back entrance. Street parking is scarce.

    Tomatoe and artichoke grilled cheese!

This restaurant has so much character and is an essential lunch spot. When you walk in there are cute kitchen/decorative items on sale along with different spices and cheeses! I got the artichoke and tomato grilled cheese and it was phenomenal! Staff was also very friendly and welcoming. In particular I really liked the art that the had in the restaurant as well, lots of photos of downtown Geneva/Batavia that are overlayed with photos from the 1800s. As a local it was cool to see the contrast of what is there now versus what was there in the past. Also lots of board games that you can borrow as well! Definitely will be coming again!:)

Came here for lunch today and really enjoyed it! It's so much bigger than I thought and adorable inside. When you walk in there is a bunch of local products it looked like to choose from ranging from candles to dish-ware, hot sauce and so much more. The assistant taking our order was very welcoming and seemed like she was happy to be there which is always pleasant :) We got here at about 11AM on a Friday and there were only about two other tables taken. We were chatting away so we were there for an hour and it started to really fill up closer to noon. There were a bunch of seating available though so good to know if you come during the lunch rush. I had no idea what to get so I decided to try something on their seasonal menu. I chose the Thai salad and the dressing was my favorite part! It was light, sweet, and tasted homemade. The salad was filling and very colorful! I also loved the nuts on top. The entire menu was very affordable! Three of us dined in, each got a bottle of water, and our bill was under $30! Someone in our group got the roast beef sandwich and it looked incredible. I need to come back and try this out along with everything else on the menu. So glad I stopped in here and I can see myself coming here for a day of work to grab a good bite and get some stuff done!

It was a solid 7, which is why I place it at 3.5 stars. I may be being picky here but it just wasn't to the level of "melt-in-your-mouth" pastrami standards for me. Not to say it wasn't good, because it was perfectly fine. In fact, it's better than most of the pastrami sandwiches I tried in Chicagoland. Maybe it's the fact that I had to bring it back to the office to eat it, and half hour had gone by and pastrami weren't as warm and the Jewish rye had become soggy by the time I took the first bite. I mean, it goes without saying that the sandwich would have been 3 times better had I sat down immediately and had it. Again, all things considered, it was a perfectly good sandwich. One interesting thing was that I had never been to an establishment that included a half sour pickle instead of a normal one and gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised. Pickles can be a hit or a miss for me. I like my pickles to be crunch, but some places offer overripened ones that become borderline mushy. Schmaltz's half sour pickle was not overly salty or sour, making it very attractive for me. The more I'm thinking about it, I'm convinced that I'll have to go back and try their #14 Sloppy Paul, which is the corned beef with sauerkraut, which is another favorite of mine. And this time, I'll be sure to dine in and give another review of it to see how much I like them better.

Lots of fun deli sandwiches to choose from. I chose a French Dip; hubby had a pick two-- a cup of matzo ball soup, and 1/2 corned beef sandwich. Both served with a whole new pickle. Mine was absolutely delicious. Tons of beef, melty swiss, and grilled onion. Served nice and hot with a tasty au jus. Hubby thoroughly enjoyed his as well. Great Jewish deli. Jerky dip was delicious. It was very easily spreadable and a little sweet. Wagyu Tallow was in the end of the fridge aisle. I will have to test this out when I smoke some brisket or something. Overall, the prices were very reasonable especially given today's-inflation prices. I am a huge fan and will return in the future to try more stuff. Especially the jerky!

This place used to be great and their facility in Carol Stream was legendary. We have been a customer for over 35 of their 48 years when Augie and Phyllis started. Now the portions have been reduced, and the bread tastes a day old. The eggplant parmesan sandwich is not nearly as thick as it used to be and their famous Italian sub which used to be very generous with the meats, will be making them less famous soon enough. Dislike leaving this review because of our history . . . but places change and good things come to an end at some point. Better options out there with more variety, stable pricing and consistent portions, tastes and breads.
