My first visit was very enjoyable. Such a friendly group of staff members put together a delicious sandwich. I went for the San Francisco roast beef substitute mayo for 1000 Island dressing. Added a bag of jalapeño chips and a delicious root beer. All totaled around $16. They've been making sandwiches here for 26 years. Very convenient to the Arcada Theatre. I love that I can order a tuna melt and not worry about tomatoes in it. The tuna always tastes fresh and the portion is great too. I like coming to this restaurant for a quick lunch but great value. So I had to try this sandwich shop Smitty's on The Corner in St Charles after hearing about it for years. I ordered the Turkey berry on cracked wheat because many of the Yelp reviews mentioned it. I can see why. The cranberry mayo on top of the several slices of Turkey was so tasty.The sandwich was perfectly crafted and looked almost too good to eat. Service was quick and the seating area started to get full. Great place for a good old fashioned sandwich that is reasonable . The white chocolate Macadamia cookies are really tasty as well. Smitty's has a charming decor, documenting local Saint Charles history and signed menus from the stars who have performed at the Arcada Theater. The service was friendly and quick as they made the fresh sandwiches in front of us. The food was delicious. We had the tuna fish salad on a croissant and the corn beef Reuben. The tunafish was especially good with little chunks of apples, making it crunchy. Both sandwiches came with a dill pickle. The sandwiches are ok. The setup is a bit chaotic. I came here for lunch for the second time the other day, which was also my last time. I overheard one of the employees making sandwiches call a patron, an "idiot". Going back to the chaotic setup, people tend to be confused about where you order, although there are two signs: one says "Pay Here" and the other says, "Order Here". The "idiot" of a patron helped another patron by advising him where he could order his sandwich, as seemingly he was confused. The employee said, "it doesn't matter where you order. Who is the idiot now". I know this is not the end of the world; however, as a patron, to overhear an employee call another patron an idiot, for simply helping someone, was really rude, unprofessional and unnecessary. I love this place! Excellent subs and very attentive service. I am only giving it 3 stars because of the inconsistent hours. I drive far to go there and half the time they are closed when they're advertised as open. Last time I went there they were closed for a graduation party. I get it, but at the same time this is a business and if you're a restaurant you have to be open when advertised.
