Visited The George to celebrate a friend's birthday and it turned out to be a wonderful evening. The restaurant has a beautiful and lively ambience that makes it perfect for special occasions. Being located right in the heart of downtown Naperville also adds to the charm -- it feels vibrant and energetic as soon as you walk in. My friends and I really enjoyed the overall atmosphere. The interior is stylish and cozy at the same time, making it a great place to sit, talk, and celebrate. The lighting and décor also make it a very photogenic place -- we ended up taking quite a few pictures during the evening because the setting was so nice. The drinks were great and nicely prepared, and the service throughout the evening was attentive and friendly. The staff made sure we were comfortable and taken care of, which made the experience even better. For dessert we ordered the carrot cake, and the portion was huge -- definitely big enough to share with the table. It was a great way to end the birthday celebration. Overall, we had a fantastic time. Between the ambience, the drinks, the service, and the central downtown location, this is a great place to celebrate with friends or for a special night out. I would definitely come back again.

I've drastically reduced my budget for dining out yet I've been to the George multiple times recently and will continue to go. They have such a unique menu of things you're really never going to make (or make well) at home. First off--the cocktails are top notch. Never had a bad one here. My new obsession is he perfect banana daiquiri. Next I'll never NOT get the chips with French onion queso. Sublime!

If you're looking for a place that instantly feels elevated, cozy, and unforgettable, The George absolutely nails it. From the moment you walk in, the vibe hits you rich dark walls, warm lighting, leather couches, wood accents, and that classic speakeasy-meets-modern-lounge feel. It's the kind of place where you want to sink into a chair, stay awhile, and order "just one more" cocktail. Drinks The cocktails are next level. Thoughtfully crafted, balanced, and creative without being pretentious. You can tell the bartenders actually care about what they're serving. Every drink feels intentional not just poured, but designed. Food The food completely holds its own (which isn't always the case at cocktail spots). Everything we tried was flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented. Perfect for sharing or building a full meal upscale comfort with a little edge. Atmosphere Honestly? This might be my favorite part. It's: * cozy but classy * upscale but relaxed * perfect for lunch, date night, girls' night, or a late dinner that turns into hours of conversation It feels like something you'd stumble into in Chicago or New York... but it's right here in Naperville. Final Thoughts The George isn't just a restaurant it's an experience. Amazing food, killer cocktails, and a vibe that makes you want to linger.

    Crispy chicken Caesar sandwich

My husband and I came here for lunch on a Saturday. Hadn't been in this space since it was Jimmy's, and it is quite transformed, with hunter green wainscotting, butler's mirrors, warm brass accents, vintage advertisements, leather seats, and a crackling fire. The menu is lean but well-appointed, and both dishes that we had (the tavern fish and chips and the crispy chicken Caesar sandwich) were very good. The coating of the fish was crispy, not greasy and held onto the fish rather than coming away. Shoestring fries often get cold quickly but these didn't. It was too early for cocktail time (for me, anyway) or I would have had an Aviation. Nicely curated little list of drinks. Our waitress was friendly and suggested the stroganoff for next time. Notes on accessibility: the hostess kindly checked what kind of table we wanted (low top, high top, booth), rather than just seating us. The ladies' room has an accessible stall, but note that the lighting in here is very dim, so if you have low vision, be aware (the flooring is also a wild black and white mosaic pattern in here, so it's a bit challenging to see clearly in the dim). Overall, a delicious lunch experience in downtown Naperville!

10/10 experience! We sat outside next to an outdoor fire pit on the patio which was very enjoyable. The service was impeccable. I had lots of questions, which were all answered with genuine enthusiasm and kindness. Our waiter helped me pick out exactly what I was in the mood for (because I didn't know). The sliders were perfectly cooked with a melt-in-your mouth umami flavor. Fries had the right amount of crisp and my cocktail was complex yet delicate. We can't wait to try many more items on the menu.

I was in a group of 4 and had dinner at the George the week it opened. I asked for one of the cocktails on the menu, but they were unable to make it perhaps because they didn't have all their inventory delivered yet. The food was great! Our server was very attentive and we loved the atmosphere. We were seated inside and the only problem was there was a draft directly above our table and we were cold all night. I'm sure by now all the kinks have been worked out.

I typically head to the city when I want great food, but I walk past The George almost every single day and have been wanted to try it for months before they even opened. What a great date night this turned out to be. The atmosphere is very classy. They really decorated it well. We sat next to the fireplace, which was perfect on a cold, snowy night. He was mortified but amused that I ordered the panko encrusted Spam as an appetizer. I couldn't help myself. It came in a Spam can and was just so random I had to order it. Don't be horrified but I actually liked it. It was certainly a unique choice. Loved my short rib stroganoff. While my first bite seemed a tad bit salty, I soon discovered that it needed it with all that creme fraîche they piled on. Those portions are quite large too. I took half of it home. He said of his French dip that it was perhaps the best French dip he's ever had. And he's had a lot of those. We saved room for dessert and ordered the sticky toffee pudding. I had to. It's one of my favorite desserts. The only other place in town to get it is at Ramsay's. The George's was sooooo much better. Food came out pretty timely, which was a shock considering how slammed they were. Service was wonderful too. I wish I'd gotten his name again or saved the receipt. He was a great waiter and I'd have loved to have named him in this review . My single only complaint was that I ordered a non alcoholic margarita and it came in a can. The banana daiquiri that I ordered was nice and strong. Disappointing that they didn't put as much thought and effort into the n/a cocktail too. When so many places these days really develop their mocktails and so many people are choosing to be sober, there's really no reason at all to not develop a good selection. Even with that, this is my new favorite date spot.

I went to dinner tonight with my friends at The George. The restaurant has a large bar area and outdoor patio in addition to the indoor dining room. I found the menu to be very limited as far as the main items. There are about a half a dozen sandwiches and a half a dozen entrées. They do have appetizers and salads in addition to the main events. Our server was Kyle and he did a great job. He was friendly and even split the bill between the five of us on his suggestion. The five of us started with cocktails. I ordered a bees knees, which was made perfectly. It's hard to find a quality bees knees, not many bartenders can make a good one. I was pretty happy. One girl ordered the chicken piccata for dinner and the other three had the prime rib sandwich. I opted for the Caesar salad with the addition of chicken. It was a large portion and I think the price point was fair at $14 for the salad and additional $5 for the chicken add-on. It was your basic Caesar salad, nothing super special. However, the dessert the five of us shared, the sticky toffee pudding, was divine. What's not to love about a moist cake topped with ice cream and rich caramel sauce? The bar has a decent bourbon, wine and cocktail list, and the restaurant did add a nice roof over the outdoor patio. The former restaurant had tables with umbrellas and the sun could get intense. Great idea to add the roof. I like the warm feel of the restaurant inside, but I wasn't very impressed with the menu, The George is a much different restaurant than Jimmy's, and certainly different than Bev's upscale menu. I think they're trying to sit in the pocket between the two former restaurants. It would be nice if the restaurant would accept reservations instead of their first come, first serve policy,

Had a great time at this newly open spot! They do not take reservations but we were able to get a table on their outdoor patio with less than a 10min wait! The atmosphere was upbeat and lively and they had a fun music selection playing along with a fire pit. We started with some drinks but had to go with our second or third choices as they were out of some of the ingredients to make our first choices. I went with the Not a Vodka Soda and it was pretty good. We split the Cesar salad which was flavorful and a very large portion. We had the George sandwich (essentially a French dip) and the pot roast toastie. Both were excellent and well executed with generous portions. The George was simple but comforting. It would have been even better if the bread was a little more toasted/crispy as both sandwiches were a bit soggy. We will try dessert next time! A few more veggie options may be a nice addition but they seem to have a good variety of menu items overall. Service was good even with it only being their third day open. We will definitely be back to try more!

Walked in for lunch on a sunday and was treated with great ambiance! the decor and setup of the interior is really nice and the fireplace makes it feel cozy. we ordered the fish and chips which was rated really good and fresh, i ordered the french onion soup which was flavorful and cheesy. the george was the star of the show and paired with great sauces and really well seasoned fries. our server was great, helpful but didn't hover. overall was great and will come again!

Chicken piccata worst I've ever had
    Jo G.

My go-to dish is chicken piccata and I've had it at more places than I can remember. The chicken piccata at The George is the worst I've ever had. Menu description just says chicken with lemon caper butter, sun dried tomatoes and mashed potatoes. It was breaded and deep fried. Fried to where it was practically petrified and bordered on burned. The lemon butter was practically just lemon juice and extremely sour. The mashed potatoes were ok, not too great. It came with green beans which were very fresh and perfectly cooked. For an entree that's $24, I expected better. Much better. My husband had the Cesar salad which was very large and had lots of freshly shaved cheese. The house made dressing was ok. Not bad but a bit sour too. It was very large and for $5 you can add roast chicken. Service was ok. I did have my empty drink sitting for a bit before I had to ask for a refill. Inside is very swanky and stylish but kind of dark. Bathrooms were large and very clean. Outdoor patio with a large pergola. We were there around noon so the sun was directly overhead and there was a bit of shade. Unfortunately with all the traffic on that corner it's a bit noisy but looks very nice.

It had a lot of potential but needs work. The location is the absolute best spot in all of Naperville. The decor is reminiscent of an old English pub crossed with a rich man's private den - comfortable, cozy (with fireplace), and luxurious decor. The food and drinks are both very good and I was pleasantly surprised to see a wide variety of house cocktails. The BIG issue they have is service. We waited long for a server to take our order. Then our food came before we got our drinks, and I had to ask 3 different people for ketchup for my fries. We probably won't be back.

Altavida's concepts for the three levels are Publico, Rumba, and Altura. Publico (1st Flr)- A South American fusion of food and drinks that will be rotating. The cocktails will be more tequila and mezcal based and food will be subtly rotated based on trends happening in South America. The food menu currently offers tapas, empanadas, ceviche, guacamoles, larger format meat/seafood entrees, and more. They will have a front of our bar as well as a back bar that will specialize in more coffees/coffee cocktails. Rumba (2nd Flr)- The entertainment floor! There is a separate bar on this floor that will specialize in more Rum based cocktails. Additionally, they will have a wine bar area with wines in tap. Lastly, they will have an open area for live music as well as dancing. Their hope is to have a mix of jazz, club music, salsa dancing options available. Altura (3rd Flr)- This floor is still under construction but will have a rooftop patio. The hope is that this space will be an event space both for public and private events. Back to my experience! My partner and I stopped in for a cocktail and to see what Altavida was about. Our first bartender was very nice but was still getting used to the drink recipes and was leaning on their cheat sheets. While we waited, another bartender kindly told us all about the restaurant and its focus on hospitality. Unfortunately, each bartender had a slightly different explanation of the restaurant's goal concepts which was confusing. We ended up ordering the El Toro and Vaquero (both mezcal drinks). Both were VERY spirit forward to the point that it may have needed better balance. Both drinks had a nice presentation with garnishes, color, and a skull feature at the bottom of the glass. Lastly, we saw many people walk up and look confused as there was no formal host stand. They didn't know if they should seat themselves or wait for someone. Overall, there still seems to be some kinks needing to be worked out as well as some conceptual editing. I feel they are trying to achieve too much and it ends up being confusing for staff and guests. I hope with time, Altavida is extremely successful in the Naperville area and I hope to circle back after some time passes.

I loved the modern decor and lively music being played. The place is truly colorful and has a very energetic vibe. The service was excellent. Everyone was extremely kind and happy to help. Edwin, the general manager was so friendly and accommodating by making sure that everything was to our liking. He is a gem. My husband and I ordered a few different tapas to share. We started with the empanadas and they were truly 10/10, highly recommend! We had the beef and chicken with the chimichurri sauce. We also tried the papas bravas and those were delicious as well. They are spicy and have a nice kick. The portion is pretty big and shareable. Last, we had chicken en mole. Omg, so good! They knocked it out of the park with this one. The presentation is very pleasing and the flavor is 10/10! I'm a hot sauce girly and even carry it in my bag just in case. The sauce they had in the dish was so good that I didn't even think about adding hot sauce! The rice and chicken along with the sauce is chef's kiss. I also tried the Brussels sprouts but they were my least favorite of everything. They should go back to the drawing board on that one. The drinks we had were solid. My husband had an espresso martini and dragonfruit margarita, while I had a mango margarita. All were good. Needless to say, I had an amazing evening at Altavida! The dancing on the second floor was also very fun and entertaining. I will definitely be a regular here!

We figured it would have been the perfect way to top off our evening. For first-timers it might be hard trying to find the speakeasy since at first I thought you had to access it from the Busy Street and walk up three flights of stairs. Actually you just walk inside of the Embers building, find the elevator that's kind of hidden and take it to the Third floor. I thought that the little trip up felt exclusive already. Once you're at the third floor you are treated to a beautiful array of scenery. Exit to your left and you were treated to the bar and some great tables with a cozy, intimate setting. I'm not sure if it was open seating since there was a little podium right off the elevator so we just sat ourselves. Some speakeasies require a certain dress code to keep up with the times. This one thankfully was casual though many people dressed business casual. We actually loved how the staff dressed as well. I have to try their Japanese sex drink and I absolutely loved every ship that I took. The drinks are fairly price. So, I waved to the other bartender who was female and she politely served me. I also found out that same male bartender kicked out two other friends of my friend I was with for no reason. Plus, when I reconciled my receipts the next day, I discovered that in my "not paying attention," they handed me two other receipts to sign which totaled about $80.00. (At the time, I thought maybe they were just helping each other out with ringing my order up) There's NO way I ordered that much, because it was SO crowded, I couldn't get served more than once, so that's why we left. So, basically I was robbed $80.00, because I wasn't "paying attention." I have one receipt that makes sense to what I normally order that says "Two-Nine". So on my credit card statement, I have one charge that says "Two-Nine," then two that say "Potter's Place." They scammed me. NEVER again.
