Long time patron, first time reviewer. Hugo's is even more appreciated in downtown naperville now that catch 35 is gone. The seafood options down there are lacking. Hugo's seasonal specials, and its alignment with gibson's steaks, make it a great option for just about any one. We have been here for lunch and dinner. Always consistent service and quality. It is not a cheap place, but you get what you pay for. We enjoy their escargot, oysters rockefeller, shrimp and grits, and of course the crab cakes. The only thing I ever truly disliked was probably the sushi, but everything else is great. If they could add a couple more hot oyster preparations to their menu, that would be awesome. My husband and I visited this restaurant on a Friday night. The atmosphere was great when we walked in. There was live music, which created a fun and lively vibe, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. However, the experience went downhill after we were seated. We waited almost 30mins before our server came to take our order. I understand that Friday nights can be busy, but guests should still be attended in a reasonable amount of time. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. Several of the mussels tasted spoiled, which was very disappointing!! The avocado in the crabmeat avocado appetizer was not fresh either (please see picture). There were shell fragments mixed in with the oysters. It honestly felt like they were not shucked properly in the kitchen. Finding shell pieces in oysters is not something I expect from a restaurant at this price point!! The one exception was the frog legs. They were incredibly tender, flavorful, and cooked beautifully with plenty of butter. That was definitely the highlight of the meal!! I especially appreciated the variety of options on the menu FOOD: We started with a dozen oysters, frog legs, crabmeat avocado, and escargot. Every appetizer was delicious. It was my first time trying frog legs, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed them. They were served in a flavorful lemon butter sauce and tasted very similar to chicken. For my entrée, I ordered the swordfish special. It was fresh, flavorful, and not fishy at all. The fish was incredibly tender and cut like butter. My only complaint was that the portion size was a little small. For dessert, we ordered the crème brûlée, muddy bottom pie, and cheesecake. All three desserts were excellent, but the crème brûlée was the standout. The creamy custard paired perfectly with the crisp caramelized sugar topping. Overall, we had a great dining experience. However, the drinks were watered down, the goat cheese appetizer was basically just pizza?, the food took FOREVER to come out (I also noticed every other table was waiting for food, and it wasn't busy - 1pm on a Thursday. I have been here twice for a corporate event. The service here is remarkable. The servers/bartenders for our corporate function were attentive, friendly, and very welcoming. I recommend that you try the frog legs! Has the texture of a chicken wing, but the sauce and flavor is buttery and savory. The ambiance of the place is nice and family friendly. The location has very large space for private, outdoor, and traditional indoor. There is an ambiance for every occasion. The reason for the 4 stars was my overdone steak! I ordered a medium rare and it came out more on the medium/questionable medium done side. V wanted to bring his sister and brother-in-law here as we havent seen them in four years. Our waitress was excellent. She had great energy, and answered our questions expertly. She checked on us a few times, making sure we had drinks, and that all was well. We started with drinks, calimari with jalapeno and the crab avacado. The calimari was excellent as long as you like jalapeno, the crab had a very little flavor. The drinks were well prepared. The Pear martini(?) Was a hit, and I enjoyed my espresso martini. I had the crusted Tuna with avacado puree, and asian slaw. The flavors all pared perfectly. V had perch, and he enjoyed it. L had Sea Bass which she said was OK, while M had the White Fish with a baked potatoe. The fish was pretty good, but the potatoe was over cooked. It came with asparagus and I had a side of Brussels sprouts. Both of those were great choices. I also ordered the bread pudding... Wow! It was perfect! It was huge though, so be sure to share it with someone. The restaurant is beautiful. When you drive up, do yourself a favor and use their complimentary valet to park your car. A lot of times I think higher priced restaurants are not worth it. I could make it myself for a fraction of the cost and it would be just as good if not better. Not the case here!! Hugo's beckons from the street; ambiance amongst the sidewalk. That's what lured me. The inside is just as favorable, but I prefer the outdoor dining. The service is constant, beyond pleasant, and quite enjoyable. I was pleased with Aldalpho beyond expectation. He is so wonderful, and attentive. Every selection was remarkable, and above standard. In my opinion, the best oysters in Chicago-land. And you have East and West coast options. Perfect for this girl from the Pacific Northwest. I have missed the flavors of home. Hard to actually review since we didn't dine in the main area. We were with a private party in a room to the side. It was a Saturday night and it was PACKED in the main restaurant at only 6pm. People were outside waiting, reservations were backed up (based on what I heard people say) so it was quite satisfying to swan through the restaurant to the side bar. The bartenders for our private party were exceptional and made fantastic espresso martinis. The food was a pre-set menu so we didn't get to try any of the seafood, but what was offered was delicious. We've gone to the Hugo's Frog Bar at Gibson's steak house and always enjoyed it so I imagine this one wouldn't be worse. It kind of reminds me of some of the more popular New Orleans restaurants. read more

*ELVIA* is the best! She is a great server. I first asked her for a recommendation on a dry white wine and she gave me a small taste of a dry French wine. Pascal Jolivet "Attirude". It was perfect and we got a bottle. I would not normally get a bottle either! We enjoyed our visit here. Two managers (one was the general manager Ryan) stopped by to get our feedback and we raved about Elvia. The best part of the night was a table of 9 ladies next to us who gave Elvia a standing ovation for her service. The food is great. I got the tuna poke and my friend got the crab cakes. My main entree of lobster rolls was rather disappointing though. 3 small sandwiches came out on dried rolls and there was very minimal meat on it. Hugo's has done a great job of recreating the ambience of an old-line urban seafood restaurant without too much pretension. The ambience feels welcoming, lively, and upscale but still very comfortable. The white tablecloth settings are elegant and everything about the interior is well thought through to reinforce the nautical theme. Our party loved the look and feel of this place. The seafood is very good, but falls a little short of the best restaurants on the coast for salt water selections. In deference to this, here are our impressions on a few of the freshwater items. The white fish was excellent. It tasted fresh and the preparation could not have been better. This turned out to be our favorite seafood entree. The walleye was very good, but it was ever so slightly overcooked and lacked the flavor of the best I've had. However, It was served with an amazing lemon butter sauce along with a perfect pairing of smokey grilled asparagus. The signature frog legs were served in a similar butter sauce. We liked the clam chowder for its generous clam chunks, luscious creaminess, and bacon tinged flavor. Although, I wished for more clam flavor in the base. The mashed potatoes and creamed spinach were standout sides. We were pleased with the wine by the glass offerings, beer selection, and especially the martinis. Our server was delightful. Overall, Hugo's offers a very enjoyable experience. It represents a fair value, even though a few of the items seemed a bit on the high side. read more

This restaurant was on my list to check out. My boyfriend and I met up with my friends for a lovely couples late lunch date. We all were impressed and it was everyone 1st time at this establishment. Our waitress was amazing and the service was top tier. For appetizers we all shared frog legs that was out of this world. My boyfriend never had frog legs before (bless his heart) and oyster Rockefeller which is the best Oyster Rockefeller I've ever had (no exaggeration) My boyfriend had the Chicken Malinese. Superb! I've had the Rhode Island Calamari ( Excellent. However the house sauce wasn't the star of the show) My friend. She had the Filet Mignon and her husband had the Halibut. We all didn't complain. Ordinarily I love Hugo's but I went to Easter brunch and got sticker shock when I got the bill. It was $95 per person, and that doesn't include a mimosa or a spirit of any kind. I didn't expect cheap, but the food wasn't hot; all in all it was pretty mediocre. Room temperature fare. For three of us it was around $400 with tip. Staff was excellent and professional, manager stopped by tables and checked on every customer. It was my fault for not finding out what the price was ahead of time, but I'll never do brunch here again. It was okay, but for $400 I would hope for more than okay. read more

It's our favorite place for a nice meal in Naperville & we love to bring friends & family w us. Service is always exceptional and food is consistently GREAT!! We have a family tradition of dining here the night before Thanksgiving & while the dining room was crowded and loud when we arrived at 7:30, it was easier to hear others by 8 pm. Bread is fab, clam chowder delicious and I LOVE the filet!!! My son "popped" (even though I was paying) for the Chicago Cut & at & $84 it's not worth it...although I think the large filet is at $73!! Everyone loved everything else we ordered & you HAvE to end w the Muddy Bottom pie! I also think the corkage fee is reasonable at $30. Love it read more

I planned to get walleye but it was unavailable. Probably out of season. We enjoyed the chowder. Abundant clams in a thick chowder with a mild bacon base. The batter fried fish was overcooked. The crispy batter was pretty dark and had a heavy taste of oil. More than I would expect. The fish itself was hot and the portion was less than generous. Our French fries were basically throwaway. Barely edible when dipped in ketchup. Soggy as well. The coleslaw and tarter were very good. I like the spot and hope for a better meal next time. It's from the Gibsons Restaurant Group and the quality shows at Hugos. We ordered different appetizer dishes and split between my guest and myself. We started with a dozen oysters. We then ordered some frog legs, which actually do taste like chicken. We split the crab cake meal, and the kitchen was gracious to do that for us. We finally finished the evening with a chocolate dessert that was too delicious to take a photo of.
