Seems like a great spot for drinks, apps, and live music--the music was in the bar area, with the dining room in an adjacent space. You can request seating closer to the bar if you want to enjoy the music while dining. Otherwise, the window seats are nice if you're looking for something quieter, restaurant lighting is dim. They're also able to modify some dishes to be gluten free. The Poached Pear Salad was light and refreshing, GF if you omit the goat cheese "crouton." Though if you like goat cheese, it looked delectable, perfectly cooked. It's more like a small fried goat cheese patty (almost like a mozzarella stick). The risotto was well cooked, but nothing particularly memorable in terms of flavor or components (bacon, mushroom, pesto, parmesan butter). The cassoulet was bursting with flavor. They offer both a small and larger portion. The small is really just a few bites of duck, so if you're looking for something more filling, definitely go with the larger size, which feels closer to a standard entrée. You can omit the panko breadcrumbs to make it gluten free. The guava sorbet was a refreshing way to end the meal, served as a trio of scoops and a cookie (not GF). Portion sizes overall are just okay, as you're unlikely to have leftovers. Unless you order apps, an entrée, and dessert, you may not leave completely full. Drink-wise, they have cocktails, beers, one cider on tap (GF), and wine options. The Mint Julep (bourbon based) was strong, simple, and surprisingly tasty. Service was fine overall, though one gentleman stood out for being especially attentive and friendly (wish we caught his name). Pricing didn't quite match the quality, but would be open to return in future to try out other dishes. read more

We haven't dined at Adele's for a couple years now, and since that time they renovated the restaurant. I have been here several times in the past and always had a good experience. I chose this restaurant for my birthday dinner going on my actual birthday. Friends of ours joined us for dinner. I chose to sit in the lounge area next to the bar, which is a smaller space than the dining room, more intimate. I enjoyed that space. There's a couple couches in front of a fireplace perfect to enjoy an after dinner drink. My friends brought a couple bottles of wine so we didn't order any cocktails or wine from the restaurant. Their corkage fee is $25 a bottle. The four of us started with appetizers to share. The deviled eggs were creamy and delicious. The charcuterie board was good but could've had another cheese on the board to match the three meats on the board. It was served with perfectly grilled baguette. The special appetizer for the evening was morel mushrooms. I love morel mushrooms, but these lacked flavor and the portion was small. That was a miss for me. For dinner, my husband had the crispy chicken milanese, which he thoroughly enjoyed. The chicken was topped with arugula, capers, manchego cheese, tomatoes. I opted to have a Caesar salad and the Spanish octopus appetizer for my dinner. Our server Carmen, who was so engaging and provided good service, said that the octopus was outstanding. He was right! It was the best octopus I ever had. Tender and flavorful. The owner stopped by our table to see if we were enjoying everything. I told him I didn't like the octopus at all and the chef needed to make me another one pronto, but he didn't buy it. I tried! It was noted on our reservation that it was my birthday and my friends bought a bouquet of flowers so it was pretty obvious, but the restaurant did not acknowledge it with a little dessert at the end of the meal. That was disappointing since I chose this place specifically to celebrate my birthday. We've been coming here for years. One of our favorites and we always try to make an Adelle's date night at least once a year. Last night reminded me why it's still a special place. Excellent food, atmosphere and service. Not cookie cutter but always creative. We started with the fried green beans that were drizzled in a honey plum sauce. Also did the build your own charcuterie. Flavors were wonderful (portions of the meats and cheeses a bit small). That blackberry jam was amazing! I enjoyed the white fish with couscous which was satisfying but light enough considering we filled up on the great apps. My husband can't say no to a steak so he enjoyed the ribeye. Wonderful sides filled with flavor. My favorite though was their strawberry cake. OMG!!! The best! So incredibly satisfying with a hot tea after dinner. It was almost like a gourmet version of an Entenmann's coffee cake in the best possible way. The cake was topped with this layer of creamy home-made frosting, a layer of fresh strawberry jam, and a crumbly top. I'm glad I don't have access to it all the time, I'd be eating it too often! Hadn't been to Adelle's in a long time, so we decided to give it another try. The pork belly appetizer was delicious, sweet Asian chili flavor. The crab cakes were good. The burger was cooked perfectly and very tasty. I tried the Oktoberfest special, Goulash with mashed potatoes, it was delightful, the cucumbers with sour cream was a perfect accompaniment. In my second visit to Adelle's, they hit every high point possible! Enjoyed a light and refreshing Aperol Fizz at the bar with a couple deviled eggs while waiting for our friend to arrive for dinner. The bartender was fast, friendly and knowledgeable; the cocktails were terrific! The restaurant was mostly empty but that was helpful in terms of keeping the volume down. We enjoyed the Asian ribs appetizer; 6 hearty. ribs full of sesame and soy flavors. I ordered the Parmesan chicken with cheddar potatoes and grilled asparagus; it was a bit spicy but very delicious, and the asparagus was perfect! The staff was attentive without ever being intrusive and they brought us water and drinks all throughout the meal. Very friendly and guided us to good choices on wine and desserts!! For dessert, I had an affogato and they made it decaf for me--still so good, and they gave me a a generous scoop of vanilla gelato!! It was my friend's birthday, so they gave us little glasses of champagne to toast her and a little limoncello after dessert, too!! So much fun!! Plus everything was delicious. Thanks, Adelle's!! We hosted a welcome party on a Friday evening from 7-9 for about 70 people before our wedding on Saturday. I looked at a number of places but Adelle's was the only one that provided the nice ambiance and worked with us and our budget to come up with a plan for drinks and food - every place else only had set packages that were pretty inflexible. We got the whole cocktail area to ourselves and it was so nice and didn't get too loud. The space itself is so modern and chic - it honestly went great with our wedding colors/theme so it was perfect! The food was great, the service was great, and everyone loved everything about it! Here is what to know if you want to ever come to this restaurant 1. It's an American cuisine: American people, American environment, and American lifestyle. If your not American just like me you will stand out 2. The service is REALLY slow. 2 hours for 5 dishes when there were just a couple of old people with their families, seriously. 3. The food is too expensive. For 5 dishes the cost was 150$, averaging each meal being 40 dollars 4. Waitresses are kind: A man served us water about 5 times in 2 hours, so that's a positive. 5. Food is delicious. Definitely worth some of the cost and the long waiting time. 6. The restaurant is old which shows that the chefs are experienced but it should've not tooken them 2 hours for 5 dishes. That's everything you need to know about this restaurant. Not bad. 3/5 is fair. Adelle's is very pretty on the inside. With the vibrant floral wallpaper, dark hardwood, large tables, and soft touches in the fixtures, etc., it feels like going to a dinner party at a friend's. This kind of ambience seems hard to come by in popular restaurants in the western suburbs so we enjoyed it very much. The music is also at a perfect volume and the space itself is not too loud even with a full house on a Saturday evening. However, the food is nothing extra special. It's definitely good and won't disappoint but it won't "wow" you either (and their cocktails are admittedly much too sweet). As for the service, it's slow but nonetheless fine. It seems they're understaffed, as per usual with downtown restaurants. Overall, it's a comfortable place to spend the evening. There's plenty of room on the tables for your meal, the ambience allows for a conversation that can at least be heard, and the food is still nice despite not being spectacular. This is the place for you if like a cozy dinner with no fuss and a great atmosphere. We'll definitely return at some point as part of our weekly dinners out. read more

I took my wife to Adelle's this week for her birthday. I've been eyeing this restaurant for a number of years as it looked like a nice place to go. We were greeted and seated fairly quickly. The inside decor seemed nice, and it seemed more like a "grey heads" place from looking at the other clientele. The wait staff was pleasant and we placed our dinner orders after perusing the single page menu. My wife ordered the tortellini and a beet salad, and I opted for the butternut squash soup and the pork chop. We also ordered a table serving of the roasted carrots which came with two different sauces. My wife said the salad was OK, but really did not have a lot of "there" there in the taste. Her tortellini was alright. I had ordered a decaf coffee, but had to ask for it several times. The butternut squash soup was excellent. My pork chop was a bit on the thin side, tasty but had a lot of fat and gristle in the chop. This was one of the few things I could order being both gluten and dairy intolerant. One of the biggest disappointments was the roasted carrots which we both were looking forward to. We had to ask for them several times and they kindly apologized and promised to get them out right away (after our entrees were eaten). The small carrots were $9.00, and were basically raw carrots. They hardly had any flavor and were not soft at all. I think they walked them past the broiler ;-) on the way to our table. Again the wait staff was very nice, no complaints there, just rather underwhelmed by the food that night. Not sure we are going back anytime soon, esp for a ~$94.00 dinner bill plus tip. read more

After a wonderful Van Gogh immersive experience we headed back to the burbs and made an impromptu reservation at Adele's. Our first time here. We received a warm greeting. Our server was very polite and attentive to our needs. I orders a Martini, you know that is good when you can see a very very very thing layer of ice at the top from the shake. For appetizers we shared grilled Mediterranean baby octopus with fingerling potatoes, pickled peppers, garlic alioli, and chimichurri with an authentic Caesar salad with boquerones (anchovies) and shaved Grana Padona. My husband, for entree, ordered the Raised Lamb Ragout came with potato gnocchi, mirepoix and Grana Padona. I ordered the Pan-roaster Steelhead Trout on a number of braised kale and oven roasted Brussels sprouts. Every morsel was very good, each dish packed with subtle favors. We capped off an afternoon of culture in the suburbs - Frida Kahlo and Morton Arboretum - with outdoor dining at Adelle's. It was an inspired choice. We arrived for an early dinner and got a table in their lovely covered outdoor patio. It did fill up quite quickly so plan accordingly. The cocktails seem pricey but they are HUGE. They make a good Sazerac. The wine list is fairly limited and mostly New World, but the South American Malbec was delicious and a good value. Food is excellent across the board. The foie gras mousse appetizer is a decadent wonder, rich and creamy, accompanied with a sweet bread that would make it almost dessert worthy. I ordered the veal chop and Kelly got the steak. The veal chop is good - be sure to order it medium or medium rare - but the steak, rare, is superb, and I would make a return trip simply for that. The Yukon gold mashed potatoes are also delicious. Even the dessert is impressive. Chocolate chip cookies are cooked to order, come out warm, and are AMAZING. Gelato is excellent too, as is the coffee. read more

It's rare that I write a review but I feel it's necessary. First, the ambience and staff (from the hostess to our server on down) were lovely & attentive. However, that's the only good thing I can say. I'll start with the cocktails. Our party of 3 ordered a manhattan, old fashion & the Nola sazerac. The sazerac was ok, nothing special for its $18 price tag. But the other 2 drinks were abismal. The bartender put club soda in the old fashion & my manhattan was mostly ice & watered down. When we asked to have the old fashion remade, the bartender just mixed it this time with more water & ice. It was undrinkable. As for the manhattan, the bartender dumped the ice and put it in a martini glass. It was mediocre at best. We had the muhamarra & the confit Spanish octopus. Both were good. But our entrees, tasted like something you'd get at a chain restaurant. My son ordered the crabmeat risotto. Before ordering it, he asked if the crab was fresh/real. Our server told us it was pasteurized. What we didn't realize is this meant canned/processed crab meat. Not that there was any real pieces in the dish. At $35 for overcooked risotto, imitation crab & 1 scallop it's highway robbery. I had the crispy chicken paillard. It was essentially readymade (think something you'd get in the frozen food section of your grocery) fried processed chicken with some micro greens & 3 pieces of cheap manchego cheese on top. And it was inedible. The shrimp linguine had so much lemon juice with only a few shrimp it was also inedible. In other words very disappointing. We were celebrating our son's graduation and looking for an elevated dining experience. Adell's is not it. I will say their customer service is excellent. When the manager stopped by our table to ask us how our dinner was and we told him frankly the food/drinks were horrible, he comped our entire bill. This was unexpected and extremely appreciated. We asked our server if she could charge us for something so we could adequately tip her. She had after all been great throughout the course of our meal. I'll say it again, excellent customer service. But still, given the quality of the food & drinks we won't be back. It's too bad, Adelle's use to be so good. read more

Well I'm torn on this. This was our first visit to Adelle's and looking forward to the "fine dining" based on the menu pricing. We were seated at a table and our waitress was prompt and very sweet. We weren't there more than 5 minutes and a group of 3 adults and maybe 5-6 kids under 9 came in and were seated in a room directly across from us. Between all the kids charter and the father?? Dropping the f bomb I was not happy. It sounded like a preschool lunchroom in there. Seriously, who brings children into a "high end" restaurant? I will never understand that. We had brought a good bottle of wine with us which we were looking forward to having in a nice, relaxed atmosphere.That wouldn't be happening where we were seated. I asked the server if we could move and she was very accommodating. We were seated in the back room of the main dining room and it was very quiet and relaxing. I was also surprised that the tables had tablecloths but butcher paper over them. Really? The waitstaff is excellent and the food was top notch. I don't think we will be back which disappoints me but I didn't find this experience was one of my better ones. read more

I really wanted to like this place. It has been on my "to try" list for ages. Since it was Valentine's Day weekend, I thought it was finally the perfect opportunity. Parking is fairly easy. It isn't in the heart of downtown Wheaton, so it wasn't difficult to find some street parking. The ambiance inside is intimate and cozy. We sat by the window, which doesn't offer a great view, but is perfect for a romantic dinner for two. The service was ok. The hostess was nice, but our waitress seemed like she was in a bad mood. They didn't appear super busy, but you never know. However, we had an amazing bus boy who was constantly asking if we needed anything. The prices are pretty expensive, so we were expecting some high quality meals. Boy, were we disappointed. The Valentine's Day menu was prix fixe and we didn't like any of the appetizers except the bread. This cost about $3. I don't know what made this bread so special it couldn't come with the meal like many other high end places do, but apparently this bread was very special as they charge. My husband ordered the chicken breast. It was ok. Nothing special and it was super small. Like very small. Like the kind of portions you get a high end restaurants in the city because the flavor is so exquisite you only take one or 2 bites. For $39 and that small, it was sadly disappointing. I ordered the house made pappardelle with orange duck breast. The pasta itself was completely inedible. It was WAY too thick and had an unappealing, gummy texture. When I say thick, I don't mean the width of the pasta, I mean it needed to be rolled out a good 5 more times. Typically you are supposed to twirl the pasta on your fork, but this was too thick for that. The duck was great. It had excellent flavor and a good texture. I can't get past that pasta though. I can cook better home made pasta. Cooking 101 tells you that it would have needed to be rolled out more. Who let that leave the kitchen? All I can do is picture Gordon Ramsey tossing it in the garbage and making the chef do it again because he would never allow that to be served. It is really embarrassing for the restaurant. For dessert, we ordered the pistachio financier. The name was a bit misleading. I thought this was going to be a pistachio flavored cake, but really it was just a yellow cake with a few chopped pistachios as garnish. Not horrible, but nothing special. I wish I would have gotten something else. I personally won't be back and am disappointed I tried this place for Valentine's Day when I know there are better places I could have gone. I don't know if it was because of the prix fixe menu or if all the food is that bad, but they should not charge that much for food and allow an inedible dish to leave the kitchen. read more

My husband and I dined at 6pm on 08/19, in the dining room. I love the atmosphere at Adelle's (although it pales in comparison to the quaintness and style of its previous location.) We had been a couple of times before and it was just okay, but we decided to try again. We wanted some American fare because we had been mostly eating ethnic or fusion style lately. We were disappointed. The food was ill timed, arriving all at once. My husband's beef staganouf was average at best (watery) and the orange slic in his old fashion cocktail was rotten. My scallops were excellent and the presentation was creative but 3 scallops on corn kernels for 34 bucks was a bit steep! The bread was delicious. I questioned the side olives however. I would have preferred a rich Balsamic or natural honey. The service was horrible. Like they forgot about us. Didn't clear after we were done, no offers to freshen drinks no offers for coffee or dessert. We eventually asked for a dessert menu (and I am glad we did!) The spice cake and the salted carmel Gelato were both magnificent. Next time we will dine elsewhere and opt for dessert and coffee on the patio. The patio was busy and looked fun, whist the diningroom seemed to cater to the senior crowd (there is nothing wrong with that, and it WAS early. ) Adelle's is charging Chicago prices but falls short on delivering the experience and quality. Nice spot in Wheaton close to the train station. Outdoor seating looks like a great spot, wish it wasn't end of November! Inside is warm and inviting, nothing cramped, soft lighting and music, great for conversation. I would say this makes an excellent date night destination, since that's what this way. Met another couple here for a date night of "place we hadn't been before." It is fine dining, be ready for fine dining pricing. Cocktails are amazing. Wonderful twists and additions to classics. I had a Bee's Knees Stinger. A Bee's Knees is usually a little on the sweet side, however, they have added some spicy honey and it was fantastic. And let me tell you, they did not skimp on the whiskey. They also offer a decent sized beer list of local beers and a good offering of various wines. The food was wonderful as well. Portion sizes I would say are perfect. I had the shrimp scampi linguine. Shrimp was cooked nicely, not rubbery or limp. Pasta was delicious and the sauce I could have taken home in a bottle!
