Stephanie (the owner) is, by far, the most caring, understanding, and helpful instructor I have EVER had. She understands each person's needs and can help each person grow not only in confidence, but in self-reliance. Stephanie always looks out for every person and makes sure they are getting the help they need, as well as being given the push to jump higher (sorry about the pun) as well. Her horses are all loved dearly, taken care of, and get to roam in spacious fields all day like horses should. No horse is forced to stand in a stall all day only to be ridden once, and returned. They get to stretch their legs and take in the serene backwoods Bowie scenery. Every lesson is formed around making each person better, with focuses in different areas. One day might be a balance day, strength day, cross country day, position day, ect. I never know what fun experiences lay for me on the other side of the white fenced arena. The grounds are well groomed, with several large paddocks full of happy horses. There is a spacious outdoor ring, covered indoor ring, and a host of cross country fences around the property. There are several friendly furry friends roaming around the grounds, including Brandy the ever present Goldendoodle, and Pepper, the most friendly cat in the world. I will continue to make Merkel my home and hope that everyone sees the beauty in this lovely farm tucked back on a piece of paradise.

Went for open swim today (Dec 14, 2009) and had a load of fun with a local mom group. You walk in…read moreto a very clean and welcoming lobby where the receptionist is very friendly. We paid for open swim (from 11-3pm $5 adults $3 child) and head for the locker rooms. Locker rooms were a bit small but did the job. They only had the half size lockers so don't bring anything long (coats, dress). Showers were clean and had soap available. The pool was wonderful. They dedicate two lanes for "open" swim and the rest of the pool is for lap (about 4 lanes I think). At 11 it was not too busy at all and we were able to have our mommy group space enough. We were not bothered and the life guard was right there the whole time. The rest of the facility looked great too. Might have to check out their gym or therapy pool/lessons another time. They do lessons as well.

Justin and Jasmine made sure we stayed hydrated, and regularly brought us into the air conditioning to avoid overheating. They ensured our safety every moment we were there. The rope course was insanely fun, the giant swing and zip line were a blast and our favorite part was honestly the rock climbing! Justin and Jasmine were fantastic - we will definitely come back (preferably not during a heat wave haha) and hope they will be our guides again - every single person today made it memorable for my family! Our two boys had a bad experience with this camp. One of our sons participated in the one focused…read moreon nutrition and cooking. He got very sick, and was one of three kids who were sent home in one day. We took him to the ER after learning he passed out at camp and after multiple calls with counselors and the owner, we still had no idea what happened to him. His symptoms were that of heat exhaustion or a concussion but the counselors' recalls of what happen were misaligned. In addition, from our son we learned that they had limited outdoor time and when he came home each day before his incident he said "I need to get my energy out, we stayed inside most of the day". I also noticed that the camper to counselor ratio was not great and was skeptical about sending both boys the following week. The next week we decided to send both boys to keep our schedules intact (I realize we should not have sent them after week one's incident) and they complained about the camp each day, saying they were stuck inside all day and they didn't do many activities. They also said the facilities were cramped and "dirty". On Wednesday there was a "suspected" lice outbreak. We pulled them out of the camp on Wednesday and they didn't attend the final days. Finally, unbeknownst to the camp counselors, our son exchanged one of his crocs with a new friends. We communicated with the counselors and owner to exchange the shoes and they were unwilling to help. They actually never replied to multiple emails and didn't return our call. Should my son have done that? No, of course not and I should have noticed before we headed home that Wednesday. But the lack of communication when we sought help, and the lack of oversight from their hired staff gives indication that the camp isn't run well and is overprescribed. The name SmartFit Kids is a misleading name for a camp that neither focuses on development, health or safety.

The sad part is when a person have to work they have to deal with the consequences of dealing with terrible daycare facilities. First off the cook at this establishment is very nasty and unclean. His clothes are very dirty and smells bad and he walks around touching food and doorknobs with his bare hands. A typical breakfast there would be a single cup of yogurt, or a blue berry muffin, or simply just a plain waffle. They don't feed the kids a real breakfast and it's high in sugar. My child was brought food and on his last day there they remembered he couldn't eat their food but didn't get him his snack until 20 mins after giving the other kids gold fish. It was heart breaking watching my child cryin to the adults for food and attempting to grab the kids goldfish. Not to mention one of the staff members stood next to them on his phone the whole time. I told them and even provided a doctors note that my child isn't allowed to have milk but they actually poured him milk on serval occasions after being reminded and he was even able to get other kids cup of milk. They say they do family style dining but they don't sit with them while they eat so if your child has a deadly allergy to any food do not and I repeat DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILDREN HERE!!!!
