Excellent Thanksgiving meals. Turned to G&G for an affordable vegan Thanksgiving last year, and they did such a good job that we're going back to them again this year. Delighted to see that many of their Thanksgiving menu choices are the same as last year's. If it ain't broken, don't fix it. And equally happy to find that you can still order a la carte, which was perfect for our patchwork Thanksgiving. I really enjoy the concept here of it being a part convenience store and part cafe. The staff was friendly and they brought out our sandwiches to our table when it was finished. I thought the passion fruit lychee matcha spritz was a very unique flavor but it was really good. The pistachio croissant was also a great treat with more pistachio custard inside. The sandwiches were also super fresh and delicious. One thing to note is I got a kale salad (from the fridge section) and there was something very hard and crunchy inside I felt like I was going to break a tooth so I had to throw it away. Oh, wow, what a fantastic place to have coffee. Downstairs is a little market, and upstairs is an air conditioned lounge area as well as a rooftop space with tables. It was such a lovely way to spend my first couple of hours in Chicago. I had both of their special coffee drinks - the Dubai chocolate cold brew and the orange dreamsicle latte. Yum! Their baked goods looked so good; they have croissants and prepackaged items as well as more lunch type sandwiches. Had a poor experience picking up my too good to go order. Having successfully picked up an order prior the the scheduled time, I decided to check out this place again. I came early and asked the guy if the order was ready. Unfortunately he had no clue but he chose to tell to wait and he would check. The other lady working helped lots of people but ignored me completely and prioritized talking about where to buy weed with her coworker. After about 10 minutes, another women came and was helped by the same lady so I asked about my order and after i finally received my order I asked what each item was and if it had nuts and the lady rudely cut me off and said it was a surprise bag and there are allergens. For Thanksgiving, since it was just going to be the two of us, I decided that it was easier to order a pre-made dinner than to buy the ingredients and cook. I wanted something that came close to tasting homemade. I decided to order Goddess and Grocer's Thanksgiving for Two dinner, and I am glad that I did. It was wonderful. Pick-up was at a pre-determined time, and could not have been easier. They had a truck in front of the store, and they were very organized. The dinner included a huge portion of pre-sliced turkey breast (along with turkey stock to keep it moist while reheating) mashed potatoes, stuffing, green bean casserole, rolls, whole cranberry sauce, gravy, and two mini pumpkin pies. I also ordered a quart of their delicious butternut squash apple soup. The reheating instructions were easy to follow, the portions were generous, and everything was absolutely delicious. I could not have purchased the ingredients and made this dinner for price they charged...so that was a big plus. I am a baker, and to go with the dinner, I made a homemade pumpkin pie with an all-butter crust. I have to admit that my pumpkin pie was better than their mini pies, but my homemade pies are tough to beat. I had never been in their Damon Avenue store, but it looked to be well-stocked and they have a wonderful counter for coffee and baked goods. If you need catered or pre-made food, I highly recommend Goddess and Grocer. It's wonderful! read more

I've been a couple of times and the coffee is a miss each time. Typically too hot and not prepared well. Today I watched the barista pull the shot and steam the milk for my drink then put them down and take some orders before finishing the drink. The baristas were also running around when I arrived so they might be understaffed here which is something that the should be changed if it is effecting service. There is a large space upstairs to work which is nice. The door to go outside seems to be a bit broken as a few people have gone in and out and weren't able to close the door all the way so as the weather gets colder it makes the space rather cold. There are also bathrooms upstairs and iced water. Overall if they had better coffee quality it would be a great place to stop in. read more

One of my favorite places in the city! I previously visited a Goddess and the Baker but didn't know what to expect for a Goddess and the Grocer. The first floor felt like a deli with one side full of prepared meals and fun drinks and the other side with a deli counter, salad bar, and a small section with baked goods. There was also a small menu (not the same at Goddess and the Baker) but still plenty of healthy and fun options! There was also an upstairs full of tables that worked great for remote work (we did have to ask to turn down the music a bit though). It was too cold when we visited but the outdoor patio looked cute and comfy too! I tried the breakfast quesadilla which was so good and very filling! read more

Ordered two simple sandwiches that I thought would be quick to make. They were supposed to be ready at 12:25 PM. After waiting 30 minutes to 12:55 PM, they were still not ready yet. They were 30 minutes late. I requested a refund since I needed to go, but they were unable to do it at the store. I'm having to go through Toast to receive it. I hesitate to give 1 star reviews to local businesses, but not delivering what I had paid for crosses a line. I'm not optimistic about getting a refund. read more

My experience was mediocre at best. I ordered a chocolate cupcake and was honestly really disappointed. The icing was like a stick of butter, and I could pick it up and put it on my plate. The cake itself wasn't that much better. It was dry and kind of bland. I opted for a chocolate chunk cookie as a trade in, and while it was better, it still wasn't as soft as I wanted. My advice? I've gotten into a fairly regular cadence or ordering a couple soups, a couple prepared meals, and a sandwich on a weekly basis to take the place of ordering out so much. I'm obsessed with the smoky corn poblano soup, it's pretty much what my soup dreams are made for. The sandwiches I've tried have all had generous portions of everything (I always ask for extra aioli on the side). I've tried enough of the ready to eat/heat meals to know they are far better than what I can make myself or what I could buy at a grocery store. I enjoyed the amount of grab-and-go items; however the service here is *very* slow so if you're ordering anything to go before work make sure you get there early. Came here for an early lunch before an appointment. The placement of the ordering area is slightly confusing, as it is right by the salad bar which was getting a lot of traffic. Was ultimately able to get someone's attention behind the counter to order the turkey with wild rice soup. It was probably on me to ask for a sample of the soup (worst that could have happened is that someone could have said 'no'), as I had envisioned a broth-based soup versus the cream one that I was served. Fortunately it was not a heavy-cream based soup. I was slightly taken aback that the soup came out without any crackers or bread :( I placed my order to eat in, with a number given me to place on the table where I planned to sit. I was all ready to make my way up the stairs to the seating area, when I see the guy behind me with my soup. Guess I wasn't quick enough in grabbing my number. The guy hands me the soup and I gingerly make my way up the stairs to the seating area without any incident/spillage. It was definitely a balancing act. Adding an extra star for the quiet spaciousness and ample seating of the upper level of this establishment. Prices are on the high side considering I had to carry my own order and bus my dishes--all when I would have been happy eating out of the cardboard to-go container. read more

Walked in. Ordered a chicken salad sandwich. The teller looks at me and says "egg salad"? Me: No, chicken salad. Teller: you mean a tuna salad sandwich? I didn't realize that this was complicated, so I say "I would like the chicken salad sandwich" that's on the menu behind you. The teller turns around, looks, and says "Oh, you mean the chicken salad sanger" Awesome beginning. Anyhoo, 2 soups, 1 sandwich and 1 rice crispie treat and $25 later I walk into my house, give my wife a soup, crack into my 1/2 sandwich. lol and behold, it's all bread. We had our Thanksgiving catered by Goddess and Grocer and WOW! I was so nervous about catering the meal but they overcame any and all concerns that I had. First, they were wonderful about answering my questions and communicating with me prior to the delivery which really helped me to feel at ease. The food was delivered on time and so easy to just heat up. As far as the taste goes, everyone was so impressed! Everything was absolutely perfect and they helped to make our Thanksgiving so special. I came here with a few friends for dinner. I had a turkey bacon sandwich. It was very plain but every ingredient was very fresh so it was delicious to me! I also had a half piece of carrot cake which was very tasty. I'd definitely recommend trying it but its a huge slice so you may want to split with someone. The outdoor seating area is nice to enjoy the weather. The only negative was that the checkout line was really slow. I was the second person in line and it took 5-10 minutes to even order. I'm not sure if the cashier was new or what, but someone should have been assisting him. My food however did not take long to get to me! read more
