My first introduction to Matta was their phenomenal buttery garlic bread that my brother brought to a party earlier this year. Even after traveling it tasted so good. I was cat sitting for that same brother who lives close to the restaurant and dropped by on a Friday night thinking I would just grab a slice or two. They had several available which all sounded pretty good but none of them was exactly what I wanted and seeing the quality of the ingredients got me to pull an audible and just order a custom New York style pie with my usual: sausage, mushrooms, and giardineira. The staff member at the counter was incredibly friendly and gave me a quick rundown of what they offered while I was deciding which was much appreciated. I stopped by the next day to see if I could get some sauce for dipping my leftover slices in and she was more than happy to let me have a little to-go container. I ordered here for the first time and was disappointed. I've walked by and been intrigued by the delicious smells, but the pizza did not meet expectations. I paid for extra sauce, and the pizza was dry. It was also so salty it was barely edible. We ate what we could tolerate to not waste it, but unfortunately, I won't be ordering from here again. We had some friends in town and decided to order pizza for an easy dinner. We wanted to try a new place and Pizza Matta came up as a highly recommended place in our area. We ordered a pepperoni and sausage tavern style, a chicken and veggie classic style pizza. We also ordered a salad and some cheese sticks. I didn't pick up the pizza so I can't speak much on the service or ambiance. The classic pizza was decent. I wasn't a huge fan of the tavern style. It seemed like the crust was almost nonexistent. Pizza Matta was so good! First time stopping by, ordered a veggie and cheese slice. I'm a little mad at myself for not getting 2 veggie slices!! But cheese was tasty too. Both just a tad bit salty, but still delicious! I ordered to go and the whole way home I could smell the delicious veggies! What a wonderful smell, I was rushing to get home and these slices did not disappoint. Such good flavor and not overly greasy. Service was fast, guy at the counter was nice. And price was reasonable. $4 for cheese and $6 for veggie. The inside of the Pizzeria is a bit small, but it's nicely decorated. Looks clean too. Def coming back! I've had Pizza Matta on my list for a while now after seeing fox's review on instagram, it looked phenomenal. I had to make my way up there and check it out for myself. We ordered the 16 inch tavern style cheese pizza. I had my queen with me and she's a vegetarian so we went with cheese, but you have the option to do half-and-half. The pizza was on point came out piping, hot, nice and thin. Their dough is amazing it stayed crispy throughout the whole dining experience. The quality of dough and flavors are exquisite and they cooked it perfectly with just right char on the bottom, you could also from the taste you can tell they use really good quality cheese. The sauce was nice and acidic the way I like it, only feedback I have is just need to add a little more sauce. They also offer free side condiments like hot honey and chili oil. The chili oil was amazing even the quality of their Parmesan is fire. The young lady that helped us at the register was very helpful and patient great customer service felt like she was happy that we were there trying their pizza. The location is little store front on Armitage with three tables with bench seats counter/register where you can get slices and an opening to see the guys making pizzas. It's really cool little spot. I love the ambience with the pizza peels hanging on the wall. Parking was real easy. Lots of street parking. They also have pay for parking in front of the restaurant. I ordered a delivery from Pizza Matta at pizzamattachicago.com. The order arrived cold - I don't mean not hot, I don't mean warm, I don't even mean room temperature, I mean cold. Per my texts, the order left the restaurant at 7:01PM but was not delivered until 7:59PM. So it sat in someone'e car or on someones bike for an hour. No mystery about the lack of temperature. I called Pizza Matta immediately and informed them of the problem. The person with whom I spoke was unwilling to accept any responsibility for the situation - it was Toast's fault, it was DoorDash's fault, it was Uber's fault, anybody but her and Pizza Matta. When reminded her that I did not order from Toast or DoorDash or Uber, that I ordered from Pizza Matta on their website, she was unable to grasp the concept. In short, her attitude was "too bad, so sad, your problem not mine". Giving this person up as a lost cause, I asked to speak to the manager. I was told the he had already left for the night. At 8:00PM on a Saturday night? I guess that explains the level of capability in this restaurant. Pizza Matta - please listen. When you choose to delegate parts of a transaction to someone else, you are responsible for that sub-contractor. If they do not perform their duties acceptably then that is the same as Pizza Matta's failure. Think of it this way. If you go online and place an order with Target and Target sends the order to you via UPS and that order gets lost or damaged during shipment, you are not simply out that purchase. Target will take responsibility for correcting that mistake and making good, either by sending out a new order or by issuing a refund. I can promise you that Target will not blame UPS or blame the delivery driver, instruct you to pursue a remedy with one of them and wash their hands of it. Target will act ethically and responsibly and will see that you are made whole somehow. Pizza Matta is not exempt from the standard of conduct applied to Target or any other business. I understand that deliveries can be problematic. If you cannot manage it then don't offer them. But when you entice additional business by offering that service, fulfill the implied promise and be sure that the food is delivered in a reasonably edible condition. You have accepted my money and so need to hold up your end of the bargain. Anything else is, in my opinion, cheating your customers. And consumers - please stop accepting this. This behavior will not change and will become the norm unless we refuse to engage with businesses that act in this manner. read more

Disappointed by the Giant team. This is just average pizza. It's not quite thin and not quite pan. Reminds me of Pizza Hut pizza. We have such good pizza in the neighborhood between Pizza Lonzo, Pauline Gee, Middle Brow, and Reno. I doubt I'll order again if they don't change things up. read more

This is a "great" review for the one time out of a dozen at Matta where we got a really bad pizza. It was an off night obviously at Pizza Matta, with a line out the door for both carryout and in-person dining. Our pizza, ordered well-done, took a while to come out, and no surprise, was not fully cooked when we got home. I called right away, and the woman on the phone couldn't have been more understanding or easier to work with. No questions asked, no arguing, no need for emailed pictures: they apologized and offered a gift card. As quick as everyone is to complain about the post-covid service industry or whatever, I want to give PM a shoutout for great customer service--along with a couple of years of great pizzas. This is a newer place and their Chicago thin crust I believe is even newer. It's in a rapidly gentrifying area, so this place I think is more directed at the younger transplants coming in. It's not one of those old fashioned family joints or hole in the wall places. I suppose this is Chicago thin crust but it reminded me more of well done, Square cut New Haven style TBH. It's pretty pricey. 14" with one topping will cost you $27. The crust is cracker thin and crunchy. I couldn't really taste the sauce. The sausage, from Slagel Farm, was pretty damn good. They don't skimp on the fennel. I'm not sure if it was the sausage or too much parmesan in the cheese mix or a combination of both but this was one of the most salty pizzas I've ever had. Overall, I thought it was pretty good but would probably only have a few pieces next time due to the saltiness. read more

There are only 3 or 4 tables inside and I've only ordered slices and eaten in. In doing that, there are easily 4 specials available and they're always ready to make you something else. I tried Matta when it first opened and was honestly underwhelmed. I gave it a second chance and am really glad I did. Matta is now among my favorite places to order delivery. Their salads are among the best in the city. The shrimp and pepperoni salads are standouts. They dance on the grave of whatever trash Sweetgreen is turning out. I never thought I'd say this about a salad, but I actually look forward to eating the salads at Matta. The pizza is cut into triangles and the pieces are foldable, although I don't know that I'd actually call this NYC style. Whatever you want to call it, the pizza is really good and makes a nice 1-2 combo with one of their salads. The mushrooms they use are noticeably better than other pizza places. read more

Ordered tavern style well done, and it was cooked very well. They are using quality ingredients, and it tasted really good. I agree with the other reviewers who have already mentioned this place is over priced- it definitely is. Overall, there are other pizza places in the neighborhood I'll prioritize first, but it's worth trying if you haven't yet. Also their pizza by the slice seems like a good deal to try the pizza without having to spend so much. However, if you're a big fan of Superman ice cream (like me) please do not waste your time on that. I was so excited to try their homemade Superman. It was 10 bucks for not even half a pint (again outrageously expensive) but I was willing to pay that for some good homemade ice cream. It was honestly the worst Superman ice cream I've ever had. My wife and I ordered from Pizza Matta for the first time tonight and went with the meatball, rapini and aged provolone special. We were blown away by the quality of this pizza. Incredible flavor, outstanding texture with a meatball that would hold up alongside pasta from the best Italian restaurants.
