Here is a place that can deliver some pretty decent food but has a couple of little issues from making it a great restaurant. I've only been here at night so what this place is like during the day is beyond me, I will give it a try for lunch one day. At night they need to turn down the lights a little as it is almost as bright as a 7-eleven. Just turn down the lights a little and throw some candles on the table, I want to look hot for my wife! Candles make a zero look like a hero! Also the time I was there it had some fine authentic Italian music such as poison, naked eyes and journey. Nothing like enjoying a great little pasta dish, squinting in the bright light to the sounds of every rose has its thorn. Issues aside my food was great, very tasty at a decent price, however Alicyn's lasagna was not very good, too much over cooked pasta, not enough taste. I don't like to waste the leftovers so instead of being excited to eat day old lasagna, it's now become a chore. So with a little bit of tweaking this could easily be a 4 star place, a definite recommend if you live in the area (and you don't feel like lasagna) read more

Went today with a friend for lunch. We had an Entertainment Book coupon, and I'm glad we did, because I'd have been a bit choked if I paid full price. We both had Tortelloni, mine in a white cream sauce, hers in a tomato cream sauce. Neither of us thought the flavour was anything special. She thought her pasta was a little overcooked, certainly not al dente. Now when I think of good pasta, my mind immediately goes to Ciao Bella on Denman Street in Vancouver. Perhaps I've been spoiled, but for $17.50 a plate, I expected a lot more from The Golden Boot. (I should mention that $17.50 was, I believe, the second most expensive entrée on the menu. Came here one evening with my girl friend. We heard great things from online reviews, so we had decided to give it a whirl. Had to stand around for 10 minutes before the disheveled waitress approached us, rudely informed us to wait outside while she gets a table ready. She appeared extremely hung over, and possibly under the influence of a substance or another. Never got to try the food, as the brutal service turned us away. We got the golden boot. In our behinds. Golden Boot definitely has the authentic Italian taste to offer. My group all agreed that this place definitely can compete with the high rated Italian restaurants in downtown and Commercial. It's great to find something like this here in my hometown Coquitlam. The complimentary bread tastes very delicious when paired with the olive oil and balsamic vinegar. My issue with the restaurant is not with the food that is being served. No doubt the food here is delicious! But when I first went to try was during a Saturday night. Waiting for a table did not take long as there was plenty of seating. But waiting to order, flag down waitresses for water or condiments took very long. The couple beside use even agreed by the signs they gave us with their eyes, as they were waiting for their order to be taken. Paying for our order took 20 minutes of waiting as the waitresses were very busy. I do not blame the waitresses as they were doing a great job, although a few could do better. I noticed some of them just standing there and chatting with their customers and not helping other patrons because they are not her customers. As this was happening more people started to come in, some had to be turned down because there weren't any seats but actually if they had just took our payment, they could have offered them our seat. All in all I hope they fix the amount of people working in the FOH so that customers can enjoy their dining experience. read more

Awesome. Very much an Italian cafe that also happens to serve freshly made pasta. The first time I experienced a wee bit of culinary ecstasy. Delicious fresh spaghetti, spicy sausage, red sauce - simple, but mind-blowingly tasty. The second experience was good, but the dish (same as above) was only good. If the review were based only on the first, I'd give 4.5, but the second brings it down a notch. Decor: I think there may be a soccer poster or two. It's comfortable, but it's definitely not designed to impress, just to provide inoffensive seating. As there's no pretense of it being anything else, I found it quite relaxing. This is my 6th visit, and WOW! Disappointing! It's been great in the past, but what happened?? This place has either lost its soul, or turned to the dark side of culinary arts by assembling food rather than making it fresh, like you'd expect with these kinds of prices in this area. The three of us ordered an entrée each, bread was fresh, wine was overpriced (Naked Grape: $8/bottle for $9/9oz.). The chicken and mushroom cannelloni was AMAZING! The other two, meat sauce with pasta/tortellini, was bad. Bad. Bad. It's like they boiled the meat in a strainer and then added maybe a spoonful of sauce and mixed it with the pasta. Tasted the way dog food smells. Low grade ground meat, kind of chewy and bland. Basically inedible unless you're into liver and onions, hold the onions. That being said, the waiter gets a bonus star. He was great, made recommendations as to what we were asking for, even though he totally misheard that I can't eat lactose and gave me a tortellini in cream sauce. We overheard the waitress in white pants bitch at our waiter for giving out the last tortellini, apparently a customer was coming to pick it up, and it ruined her night to have him correct his mistake for me. Awkward! He handled it with grace and did his best to make it all work. He deserves a nicer place to work! read more

I went there with an Italian friend who also happens to be a foodie. But then again, I think most Italians are pretty passionate about their food, so they're naturally foodies. Anyway, back to the review. My friend and I ordered the gnocchi and penne with vodka sauce and the Pizza Ferrari. First, the server gave us some delicious bread sticks which were fantastic. Each table had set of balsamic vinegar and olive oil so I used that to dip the bread. Yum! When the food came, both of us were just in a very happy place. The pizza was very good. The toppings were delicious and the crust was great. I could taste the love in the dough :) I loved my gnocchi. Not only was the vodka sauce rich and full of flavor but the gnocchi... they had the perfect texture and flavor to accompany the sauce. The only downside to this restaurant was that the price was slightly steep given the portion size, its location, and the decor. But the food is so amazing that it's hard to not come back.! read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE... a hidden gem in Coquitlam, just off of Austin. The gnocchi with cream sauce.. IS AMAZING......!! I am a huge gnocchi fan, when I tried their gnocchi I fell in love. One of my favorite pasta places. Handmade pasta, cooked perfectly, delicious creamy parmesan sauce. The pizza as well is again, amazing. Great flavor, thin crust. Perfect homemade Italian taste. My wife and I went there for lunch today and found a little gem. The food was top notch. I had pizza it was fresh and delicious. She had a half panini and the soup for lunch. The mushroom soup was fresh made in the resturant and absolutely fabulous the flavours were Devine. The 1/2 panini hit the spot and fresh. We work down the road and definitely will be back. Me and my friends headed here for dinner. This is probably one of the longest standing restaurants in all of Coquitlam. Me and my boyfriend had a plan. He ordered pizza, and I ordered pasta and we would share and try the best of both worlds. The portions are pretty good. It's something you can finish and be full. We ended up with two pieces of left over pizza. However, I definitely felt their pasta dishes were better than their pizza dishes. I devoured the pasta with ease, the pizza I ate but I didn't enjoy nearly as much. The spinach canneloni was great! Pizza Imola was good but nothing I can brag about. This place was pretty good for a small group (5 of us). In terms of price it's good thing this place is filling since dishes are in the range of $15-20 before tax. Luckily the $15 pizza, and pasta were indeed filling for me and my boyfriend so I didn't feel gipped with the price. read more

an oldie but a goodie :) I have been living in the neighbourhood for 12 years now, and I was at the Golden Boot Caffe for the first time on Saturday. It is a really tiny but clean restaurant. We didn't order from the menu, we got the daily special dishes based on the waitress's recommendation. I was blown away. The pasta was obviously fresh, and the tomato and basil sauce is delicious. Have been meaning to try this place for a long time. Met another couple for her birthday dinner. We shared the antipasto platter. Enjoyed the cold cuts and the crispy prosciutto on this platter. We both had pasta, and they were both well cooked and delicious. We also shared a Tiramisu for dessert. Although the presentation was cute, the portion could have been larger. Very casual dining I went to this restaurant last night. More like a cafe. It was far more casual then I expected. Most people where just wearing jeans and t-shirts. The atmosphere well...there really wasn't one. No music, very plain aging decor. In need of a repaint. Clean enough though. Nothing fancy. Simple. The service was casual as well. Nothing great, but not bad either. The dress code for the servers was non existing, they just wore a dress with bra straps showing. Not the most professional look. You couldn't tell by looking around who the servers were. A couple thought I was their server on my way back from the washroom. The food was not reflective of the atmosphere it was expensive! Prices you wouldn't expect to see on a laminated one sheet menu. Way over priced considering the lacklustre environment. It cost $18 for a single plate of pasta. My drink was about $7. We did got a complimentary bread basket. The meal portions were on the smaller side. The silver lining was the taste of the food was delicious! Would I go here again? Only if someone else was paying. Let me preface this by saying that the food is excellent & we thourghly enjoyed our meals - but we will never return there again after our experience tonight. 6 adults - reservation for 5:15 on a Saturday night. Waitress was unfriendly from the start and set the tone for the rest of the evening. Did not return to see if more drinks were wanted, did not clear bread plates from table despite us stacking them with used cutlery and dirty napkins, was obviously impatient and did not want to be bothered with doing even an adequate job. Waited for our pasta dinners for well over an hour - she never came to the table with an update or reason for delay. Then as she was removing our finished plates she said....'you don't want dessert or coffee do you as there's another reservation for this table at 7:15 and will have to ask you to leave in 15 minutes". Well...nothing like pushing us out the door when we've waited for food for an hour! When we pointed out this fact she was very quick to blame the reservation taker for not letting us know - totally ignoring the point that pasta took an hour to get to the table. It should be noted that we have had reservations at this restaurant in the past and we've had to wait 25 minutes at the bar past the reservation time! Overall...delicious food - but terrible service and a server with an attitude will ensure that we will never return. Stay away and spend your money elsewhere. read more

I've lived in Coquitlam for 20+ years and drove by this place almost every day. From the outside it looks a bit like a cheap diner, so I was surprised when a friend raved about their great Italian food. I went during off-hours on a weekday so it wasn't busy at all, the service was good and the food was delicious. Both my partner and I got sandwiches and were happy with our meals. Reading the other reviews on here I think I'll have to go back and try the pasta, but I'd definitely recommend this place as a surprisingly good little Italian bistro in Coquitlam. read more

Actually a 3.5 stars, and the only reason of not giving 4 is the menu (see details below) and the corresponding prices. The restaurant is kind of hidden at the back of Austin Ave, but when we got there were many people having lunch, which was a good sign, we hoped. The menu has several pasta dishes and some more under the speciality pasta section. Don't find any particular reason to have them separate... The portions are big, with prices between 16 and 18 bucks. Would say is little bit pricey considering the ingredients. The pasta is very well cooked though, but I missed some pasta dishes with more ingredients, making them more tasty and complete. I ordered for myself the Green Tagliatelle with Gorgonzola, which was good, but there was nothing on top of the pasta and the sauce... I missed something... Very good service. Unfortunately good Italian pasta is rare in this area. Will come back to try something else. They also have some grilled paninis... read more

I have to say, it was really good, I usually eat at Jimico But the wait was to long, so I took a chance and took the family here, Very good, very big portion, great prices, and lots of patiences from the server. Extremly disappointed - had a girlfriend come over from the island. We decided to try here as the reviews were so good. The ceasar salad was pretty good, but the main course was the nights special that the waitress said was sold out the night before crab & bacon in white creamy sauce over speghetti. My girlfriend & I thought we would try it & my partner had something else. After we had a few bites we both said there is no crab in this dish. It was greasy so I only ate about a 1/4 of it. When she came back to get the plates & both ours were unfinished she asked if we wanted it packed up. I told her they should put crab into the dish as my friend told me she didn't have any & I had 2 little slivers of crab. She instantly became defensive & very unprofessional & stated this is the first complaint we've had in a very abrupt manner & I'll make sure the kitchen knows in an abrupt manner. Prior to us complaining she was accommodating & very nice & instantly changed once we complained. She then continued to be curt & abrupt asking us if we wanted coffee or dessert but her attitude totally turned us off. She brought the bill & although she did give us a discount on our 2 meals she did not bother to let us know or say sorry you did not enjoy the meal. We won't be back & would not recommend going here due to her attitude. read more

I went there last night after my husband told me he heard good reviews. After being seated by the hostess close to the bar we heard a lot of loud, foul language directly behind us. There was two men sitting at the bar having a loud conversation with a server. She was laughing with them every time they swore. The couple sitting next to us looked shocked. These guys finally left after a half hour but were clearly drunk and made a scene leaving. I had the gnocchi with tomato cream sauce and my husband had seafood cannelloni. These dishes were good but the pizza looked better. We had several women serve us but have to say the young girl who gave us our bill was very rude. An attitude that shouldn't be working in the restaurant business. I won't go back to this place. Disappointed. read more

One of our new favorite Italian restaurants. I like the casual atmosphere and that the tables are spaced out unlike Rosa's. The pizza was a nice thin crust with fresh ingredients. My daughters also loved their spaghetti carbonara. The warm bread with oil and vinegar to begin with is a nice bonus. Would definitely recommend to anybody. Will never return. The worst Lasagne I have ever eaten. It says lasagne with meat sauce on the menu. Meat was mostly not there if at all, Spinach noodles were way too thick, Bechamel Sauce, basically flour and water was overly abundant and any cheese that may have been included was invisible. The food was good. Service was good. The thing they need to do here at this restaurant is the atmosphere. When you walk in, you see the open kitchen which is great. But none of the cooks were in any type of uniform or wearing hats. It was a diverse look, but in an unprofessional way. Example: My wife and I were sitting close to the bar. One of the cooks went to use the washroom...he was wearing black, with a white stripe down the side Adidas sweat pants, a short, dirty white T-shirt with some logo on it and his dirty apron,...which he took to the washroom with him. A complete NoNo when you are working in any restaurant. They should have had candles on the tables and some Italian music to set the mood. Two of the red wines they had for a "cheaper" selection were Yellow Tail and Naked Grape...dreadful wines to go with any meal, let alone Italian. The server asked if we wanted parmesan on our pasta...in any good restaurant you should be offered fresh parmesan and freshly grated by your server. Instead it was in a metal tea shaped container and more powder than fresh cheese. Have been going to the boot for years. Fantastic place if you can get in. Reasonable pricing makes it the place for party events, and it's not that big. Famous for their pastas especially the cannelloni in rose sauce and tortellini. Best pizza crust going. They use simple deck ovens and the pizza is better than ilforno oven restaurants. Tiramisu is very different, and a must try. Only complaint would be that the appetizers menu needs work. read more

Went here for a work event. The food was good, the servers were polite and friendly and the atmosphere was nice. My biggest complaint was the portion size for the price! Expensive! I paid 23$ for a small portion of some regular Alfredo pasta and some dessert. I didn't even have a drink! I won't go back, despite the staff being awesome. read more

This place was amazing and our cute blue-haired waitress was super nice and friendly, plus she was knowledgable about the vegan options on their menu. Even though I was disappointed to learn that all their pasta contains eggs, and I had been excited for a big plate of penne, I didn't even care after I had their amazingly delicious, crispy thin crust pizza. Came here for dinner with the little one and hubby. They give free Rosemary focaccia bread which is toasted on the panini press to start. Olive oil and balsamic is on the table. The balsamic is DELICIOUS. Ordered tortellini in Brodo to start. Then tagliatelle verdi with Gorgonzola cream sauce and tagliatelle Verdi with ragu sauce. The tortellini Brodo was amazing. The soup was so rich and flavourful and the tortellini was delicious. The Gorgonzola cream sauce tagliatelle was delicious. It is very heavy. I'm not sure I could eat the whole dish, but half was the perfect portion. Ragu was just as good as I remembered it. Tried the tiramisu this time. I practically licked the cup clean, it was that good. Little one gobbled everything up except the tiramisu. We will be back again soon!!! read more

Oh, how I'd missed this place. My boss/friend and I used to go often, a couple years ago, but she had a kid and hanging out after work kind of came to a halt. But we went last week for a late staff xmas dinner, and oh was it ever still delicious!!!!!! We all shared the bruschetta, which is amaze-ballz. They also give you a small basket of hot fresh bread, that you can dip in a swirl of balsamic and olive oil. Yum. I ordered gnocchi with an alfredo sauce *drool*, the other two ordered gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce and the meat lasagna. Bote loved their dishes as well. I've been wanting to try their pizzas, because they look so freakin delicious, but I'm a pasta freak, so I still haven't taken the plunge...yet... We ended with a bowl of ice cream, one scoop or vanilla and one of the pistachio. Both were good, but pistachio was my fav. Give the place a try! It's small, and usually pretty busy, but everything is made fresh by the cooks, and it shows. read more
