We ate our ice cream so quickly I forgot to get a photo of my Cookies & Cream scoop with waffle cone and delicious chocolate shake! The shake was a yummy drinkable shake, not overly thick and very easy to drink! And the cookies and cream ice cream was delicious. We highly reccomend this place as not only do you get a lovely coffee, ice cream, or pastry but you also get to to support such a worthy place of purpose! They create jobs for individuals with developmental disabilities called Super Scoopers! So next time you're feeling like a treat think of The Golden Scoop, located in the former golden arches where you will be supporting so much more!
I'd venture to say that The Golden Scoop is the best ice cream spot in KC! Their ice cream is homemade with new flavors every few months. Not only are the flavors unique, but I just love that whatever the flavor, there are chunks of goodness -- whether it be lots of chocolate chips, cookies, candy, etc. Beyond the taste, the service is great. The Golden Scoop employs adults with disabilities, with job tasks for everyone. I love seeing the same folks every time I go, and chatting with them as well as the kind volunteers that also work there. It's a fun and friendly spot that just feels like home!
First time trying the Golden Scoop on 103rd and Mastin in Overland Park. It's a non profit coffee, ice cream, pie, bread etc shop that employees adults with disabilities. tried the ice cream which is made in house. Fantastic taste! Coffee was really tasty. As soon as we walked in we were greeted with smiles and excitement. The store was very clean and also offered other items to buy. Definitely going to add it to my favorite places list. You can also drive through!!
This place made my day. FPO and I were picking up our finished masterpieces at Ceramic Cafe and decided to walk around the shopping complex. We happened across The Golden Scoop. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. The place was cheerfully decorated with pictures and artwork. It was clean and had a very friendly vibe to it. The Golden Scoop is a non-profit ice cream and coffee place that employs and benefits differently abled people. Never having been there before we needed a lot of advice. Hank was awesome. He explained about the different ice cream flavors (they make their own in sight), baked goods, and coffees. They have some branded t-shirts and ball caps and "Hawaiian" shirts that look like they would be right at home on Andy Reid. We got two small cups for $4.95 each and t-shirt. FPO got the mint chocolate chip (Hank sold the flavor when he said there were big chocolate chunks). I got Jill's Chocolate Freak (again a Hank recommendation with chocolate ice cream, chocolate cookie pieces - they bake their own, and chocolate chips). We learned every month one of their Super Scooper Employees gets to create the flavor of the month. April was Jill's month and the Chocolate Freak was her creation. She knocked it out of the park. If you want to try Jill's Chocolate Freak, you need to get there before May starts. The ice cream is very creamy and the servings come with the little wooden spoons inside just like the little ice creams cups from small kid times. We are absolutely going back. Soon. I want to try the Strawberry ice cream, which I'm told has strawberry jam from a local farm that also employs the all abled community. That's a summer flavor. Come fall they're switching to more holiday themed flavors.
How can someone give this place less than five stars? They do so much good for the community. Not only do they serve hand crafted ice cream in individual containers but they also sell dog treats and clothing. You are greeted with a friendly smile and a nice welcoming statement. The staff does their darndest to make sure you have a great experience. Out of all the local businesses this is the one that Kansas City should rally behind because of all the good that they do for the special needs community.
Went to The Golden Scoop after lunch for a dessert! The Ice Cream shop is spacious, and has a great atmosphere. The staff were very friendly. They have a variety of ice cream flavors sold in containers. They also have baked goods, and coffee! We had the Cookies and Creams, and Cookie Dough Ice Cream and they were delicious! This place is a must try!
I've never been to a local business that has more meaning than this!! I love the difference they're making!! I saw how clean and effective everyone was in the back making the lids for these ice cream cups and I got to say I'm highly impressed!! It took us a minute to read the signs and realized what an amazing cause this ice cream shop has! We didn't know this was a nonprofit local business when we stumbled across it. As we walk in everything looked very neat, simple, and clean!! I needed to use the bathroom after ordering couple containers of ice cream, && let me tell you I've never been to a cleaner business facility, ever!! The ice cream we picked was strawberry and cookie dough, they were both delicious (not overly sweet) the portions were perfect. All the staff were very helpful and friendly, we were there for approximately 15 mins yet they checked in on us 3 different times!! I highly highly recommend this the golden scoop, you won't be disappointed!!

The staff are awesome and the ice cream is sooo good! Such an amazing concept! We held a volunteer appreciation event here, they served over 50 of our rock star volunteers and it was such a great experience. Five stars!
Great local shop with a strong mission. They have fresh smoothies, cookies, and of course ice cream! Plenty of seating both at bistro tables and the big yellow table in the back. We had Charlie's chocolate ice cream, it was smooth and delicious.
It's not just ice cream. It is WAY more than that. Give it a try. You will find the most enthusiastic employees, many of whom are differently abled, in a welcoming environment inclusive for ALL. It's hard not to serve up sweet treats without a big smile and the smiles are everywhere here. Oh, and the ice cream. The flavors change, the pride is in the product, and the love comes through clearly. It's not about the workforce as much as it is about normalizing opportunity for everyone. The staff always makes me feel welcomed, the place is immaculately kept, and the conversation flows naturally. The concept alone makes you feel good and the experience will sharpen those feelings. After years of knowing about The Golden Scoop, and having sampled their ice cream, I FINALLY made it to the brick and mortar storefront. It was an unseasonably warm October afternoon so I joined a friend and we took our four year olds out for some post pre-k ice cream. Now, the first thing to note here is that The Golden Scoop has an insanely great mission to employ folks with disabilities while providing a great product to the public. When you walk in the door you'll be greeted with the friendliest employees, and I'm not just saying that, I was really blown away by the kindness that is evident here. You do need to give the folks working some grace as many do have developmental disabilities, but they do a fantastic job and are super friendly. The ice cream is also top notch. Like, you might think oh since they have this great mission they just have ice cream shipped to their store. Not true at all. Their ice cream is homemade and delicious. To top it all off this location is bright, cheery, and has some games to play while you enjoy your ice cream. Overall it was a huge hit with us and I can't wait to return. read more

We stopped in a few days ago and I am so glad we did!!! This is a non-profit handchurned ice cream and coffee shop that is just getting started. Definitely worth checking out the mission of this place. The line was out the door the entire time we were there. I asked one of the owners how it was going and she said they had to close for a few hours earlier in the day because they ran out of product. What a great problem to have!!! We were able to sample a few different flavors including probably the best strawberry flavored ice cream I've ever eaten. So excited for this business to get on it's feet completely. They are going to be adding several more flavors, shakes, malts, coffee drinks, and several baked goods to the menu. I absolutely loved the vibe in here. Whether they are in line or serving up the goodness everyone is smiling through their masks. Do yourself a favor and make this place your next coffee, ice cream, or good deed outing!! read more

The Golden Scoop serves amazing ice cream, baked goods and coffee! I especially love their new spring coffee menu with syrups from Pink House Alchemy. So yummy!! The employees are so kind and helpful and I love seeing them so involved in serving everyone. The product and service are amazing! Stop by if you're ever in the KC area. Loving the feel good vibes of this cute little non-profit ice cream and coffee shop. They provide meaningful employment for individuals with developmental disabilities... and the smiles all around spoke volumes! Did I mention the amazing hand churned ice cream?? It was delicious and I can't wait to sample even more tasty flavors. Today we ordered vanilla, strawberry and rum bread. Soo good!! read more
