My wife and I had the pleasure of visiting The Good Life on a recent Saturday. We were referred there by friends who had visited when it was under the previous ownership. The new owners, Lisa and Alfred were very warm and accommodating. Specializing in serving Beers and Wines from California, it gives us Californians an appreciation for the wines and beers produced in our state. We went in the late morning and we had no problem getting a seat. There were several other couples who would come in later. Alfred served us a flight of beers from a variety of Southern California breweries. Since he chose the beers, he was very diligent about choosing beers from different breweries that provided a natural progression from light to dark. He made sure to ask us if we had tried a particular brew before. The pricing for tasting is very reasonable, and you get an added discount if you wind up buying a bottle or glass. There's a great ambience to the location especially since it is set in a wine cellar. Alfred and Lisa have loads of personality and want to deliver a first class experience for their patrons. If you're looking for a place with a great personality, with a great variety of wines and beers, look no further than The Good Life. read more

Was in town over Labor Day weekend with some friends. We were staying right down the street so we walked over here. There aren't a lot of places open late in the town so this was a great find. Had a great time on a quiet Monday- was introduced to a terrific Pinot by the barkeep-a Nagy Gary Ranch Pinot noir that had a smooth taste with good tobacco finish. Locally grown, plus the pistachios made for wonderful time sitting outdoors. I would highly recommend The Good Life!!! read more

While I was having a great day visiting Solvang, I decided to meet my friend outside of The Good Life and while I was sitting outside a blond long hair woman walk out of the store saying that I couldn't sit there because it was for customers only and she didn't want me to rest outside her store. My boyfriend and I were walking around Solvang on a Saturday evening looking for a nice wine bar when we stumbled upon The Good Life. After a quick glance through the window we decided it would be a nice place to enjoy a glass of wine and listen to live music(bonus points!). We loved the atmosphere and selection of wines. Although the blonde woman behind the bar is neither friendly nor too thrilled about her job, it did not have any effect on our experience. The musician was lovely, the setting was serene, and it was just the type of date night we were hoping for. We would come back again if we ever visit Solvang in the future. read more

We were looking for a place to have a nice glass of wine on a Friday evening while visiting Solvang. After having a startlingly rude reception in another wine tasting room (seriously. To say that the other place didn't want to serve anyone else that evening so close to closing is an understatement of the century), we found The Good Life. We were welcomed warmly ( imagine that!) and sat at the bar. The owner and his wife were knowledgeable and recommended fantastic wines that we absolutely loved. We had a cheese and charcuterie board along with our wine. It was a pleasant and mellow vibe. Which was *exactly* what we were hoping for! There is a group of people here waiting, but I am actually on a schedule today and can't give this place another minute of my time. Took my boyfriend to Solvang for the first time. Looked on yelp and saw good reviews on here for this place. I'm so glad I chose this place. We had a red wine flight, a white wine flight, and a beer flight. All three flights were tasty and delicious. I learned a lot about wine during the two wine flights because the bartender was very knowledgeable. Also, she helped me realize that 805 central coast wine is just my fit. I highly recommend this place. Lastly, I loved that we were able to enjoy the patio while we indulged in the beer flight. The honey beer was so light and smooth and I'm an IPA girl so this was surprising that I actually liked a lighter beer. I ended up purchasing a case. I'm confident I will return for the wine, beer, and inviting knowledgeable service. read more

Allow me to be frank from the commencement, this place has the rudest owners I have ever encountered in over 12 years of visiting the majority (if not all) of the establishments in the Solvang, and surrounding areas. In fact, I don't think I have ever witnessed a more rude business owner, ever. Although this establishment does have a decent selection of craft beers, the selection of wine and beer is quickly and easily overshadowed by the pugnacious and cantankerous attitude displayed by the modicum blusters of the owner. Horrendous service. I was there with 3 friends and we all ordered separate flights. The owner personally took our orders, started us on the flights, and then told us 5 minutes in that we had to get up and move from our table because "tables are reserved for people who ordered glasses or bottles." Without any space at the bar or any other room to sit we requested to leave and the owner requested us to pay for everything we ordered despite the fact that he would not serve us. I have visited this place three times in the last ten days and the two visits with Alfred has been wonderful. He has always been great to talk to and always offers very good wine/beer suggestions. During this last visit, however, Alfred was not in. My group was barely greeted by the waitress, who lacked any professional or pleasant character. She did not even discuss the new selection for the week. We almost left because of this waitress (I think someone said her name was Lisa), but Sante was already packed. There were only two other groups in at the time and she was busy speaking to one particular gentleman, possibly her boyfriend, the entire time. The other groups also commented about the service. This last visit knocked down the overall stars. Alfred deserves all five otherwise, so thank you for the better of the two visits!! read more

This place opened my eyes. First, the place felt like a cottage and den. It was very cozy in there (and freezing outside I may add). Our server (I want to say, Alfred?) was the one who stole the show. From the moment we walked in he provided excellent, sublime customer service. As plebeians, our group did not know anything about wine and were one of those folx who wished to partake in wine tasting for the thrill of a new experience. The server explained to us novices the steps of tasting wine in a very accessible way, saying that it can taste different to each person. He took the time to guide us through the swishing and smelling methods, even showing us how people hold wine glasses for optimal temperature distribution. It was mind blowing and I felt like I learned so much from a small conversation. The wine tasting we ordered was a very good price for the experience, and we tasted the wine slowly over the process of an hourish. We got an assortment of red and white wines which were all great, from lots of local people who produced small quantities of the wines. I'd highly recommend! read more

Westerly chard was delicious! I thought the location of the wine and beer bar is great, very quaint and inviting. The not only have a phenomenal wine selection, they also have a delicious beer selection. I enjoyed the yelp check-in deal which was $5 on your first glass of wine or beer. The owner was very friendly and he was telling me about the growing of grapes in the local valley. I had a fun time and will be back! They also have live music on the weekends and are one of the few places in Solvang that is opened late. read more

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with friendly service by Lisa, the owner. Lisa & her husband, Alfred, are extremely knowledgeable & they offer a nice wine & beer selection to suit any need. The ambience is very relaxed, with a nice cozy fireplace. They have live music on weekends & a locals night on Tuesdays with great prices. This has been one of our regular spots since moving here. One of the many wine tasting locations in Solvang but luckily I found a Groupon for The Good Life. I got such a good deal and you can choose between wine tasting or beer tasting. Of course we had to do both! I really enjoyed my first experience here because this is where I learned that I like white wine better than reds. The big bummer had to have been the really awkward starring as I'm tasting my wine as if I was being rushed onto the next ones. I felt so weird standing at the bar not being able to have a conversation because I felt like I needed to chug my wine and go. I'm pretty sure that wasn't their intention because they seem like very nice people but I was very uncomfortable until I was done tasting and sat elsewhere. Very happy to see some local brews out all the way in Solvang in small places like these. I recommend getting the Groupon deal and giving this place a shot. read more
