Bruh. Do not go here. There are so many cuter spots with better tasting wine and food. There were not really any other people in their tasting room when we arrived which should have been our first red flag and sign to dip. Even when the live music showed up, we couldn't bring ourselves to stick around because the food and wine were so bad. It's true, we did receive a story with our order. I don't care how good the origin story is if the wine sucks. It tasted like the bottle had been open for way too long (understandable given the lack of business) and the wine wasn't good to begin with so being stale didn't help. We were really there for the popcorn flight, which we had read raving reviews about. It was unimpressive to say the least. We kept expecting the flavors to get better but they only got stronger and more candle / soap like as we sampled. It tasted like the popcorn was doused in essential oils, so strong it was choking us to consume the soggy popcorn. Just brutal. I can't say one good thing about that popcorn. The one star I gave them is for the bow wow bag they gave my pup - it was a little goodie bag of milkbones which he appreciated! read more

We had gone here on a Wednesday. The outside shaded lounge and sign that they have charcuterie won me over the neighboring wine tasting rooms. We ended up getting a couple appetizers instead ! (Beef Wellington and Chicken Cordon Bleu) which were suuuper delicious I did the Owners Flight which was soooo good! It had a common theme of berries.. yummmm I like how each wine has a different story. Tanner who was our host did a great job You can tell these people have like acting talent or something. They are so good at making tasting wine an experience. They give u options of joining the club to get discounts if you want. They tell u about the other locations and the differences with each of them. You can buy any of the bottles if u want. At the end, they give u the opportunity to order more if u want, which I appreciated because I did want another glass.. The host read over our order to make sure it was correct, then he switched with another host as his shift was over. The tab ended up being incorrect, but the new host fixed it for us and it didn't taint our experience. We still had a great time. Because business was slow, we got to chat with Paul also. He is great with people and we struck up convo about the business n wines. The hosts were Good looking chaps too! I think being presentable with great hygiene, manscaping & a friendly personality is an important part of the experience. We also played a game of pool. That's what I mean by great customer service and that makes me feel as if they value their customers experience. When I'm in Solvang I'll definitely come back for a visit. However my wine tasting experience wasn't great! Our wine lady didn't seem like she wanted us there. I would hate to think it was due to my skin color so I will not assume.....but it was just a really weird vibe. Not welcoming at all. She didn't go over the wine club option and at the end didn't offer us pricing on bottles to purchase. I had visited two other places just the day before who were attentive and informational when it came to purchasing. It was just a strange experience. After reading through some of the reviews this establishment seems to be a little combative with the customers and shows zero concern for the customer's experience overall. I was going to give three stars because of that last point....but their wine is so good I cant go below 4. Cool room with sidewalk seating along the beautiful village of Solvang. Inside has some comfy chairs in a contemporary lounge. I did their master flight which is a series of medium and full bodies reds. I normally favor the mediums and avoid the fulls. Their full wines were fantastic. One was a mix of Merlot and Cabernet (neither of which I normally am a fan of) but they worked well. That one might even have been my favorite. Appetizers are just Pillsbury puff pastry filled with various stuffings. $13 for 3 small bites of puff pastry and cream cheese? Dont bother, Stick with the wines - thats what they do best. read more

I got the Hope and Faith, which was a very fruit forward red, and my husband got a Cab Franc that he loved. We sat outside for a bit by the fire but then moved inside as the sun went down and found the arcade games. You can get quarters at the bar to play. They also have a pool table and Photo Booth. Their presentation of each wine was nice to hear the background behind how the bottle was named. Charcuterie board was pricey and cost more than the 2 wine tastings equaling the bulk of the bill. The place we were staying for the night have deals for wine tasting and restaurants. For wine tasting - 2 for 1 while restaurants give 10% off. This is one of the wine tasting places. We came around 7:30ish. Little did we know that they stop wine tasting around 7pm because it takes an hour and 15 minutes to finish. The staff told us that we can order wine by the glass. Upon checking the wine list prices, we found out that they are pricey. $21 and above for a glass. It is like buying the whole bottle. We left graciously and decided to come back another time. In our last trip to Sovang the hotel kindly gave us a postcard with discounts all over town. McClain cellars was one of them. We got a tasting 2x1, so we were very happy about that. The place is really nice, the decoration is pretty awesome and they have a balcony to seat, even better. I always liked people watching. We got our sommelier, she was nice explaining the wines, it's pairings etc. To tell the truth we had a good time. All of tat ended when we paid, $42.41+tax per flight of wine. Our first stop wine tasting and it did not disappoint. We sat in the front of the shop, street side, next to the heaters. The fire was definitely nice since it was starting to get quite cold out. But what made this place 5 stars was Lauren. I've worked at several high-end restaurants, owned my own restaurant, and also semi-retired as a sommelier at the Concanon Winery in Livermore. Although this young girl has only been in the wine business for a little over a month, her people skills are a 5-star rating by themselves. As far as I'm concerned, she knows far more than a 1-month employee should ever know about wine, and she can only learn more. I'd love to see her as a fellow sommelier someday.
