This was like our 10th stop and the kids were sitting by the fireplace with an adult while the others were starting to do a tasting when this "blonde" biddy came over and said "WE DON'T ALLOW "WHINERS" IN HERE!!" I thought she was kidding at first but no, she repeated it again in a very RUDE manner. (Like we were going to give the kids a few tastings!?). I understand that some places do not allow ANYONE under 21, but there are ways to say things that are not offensive. Calling the grandchildren names is not the way to win over customers. Wandered in on a sunny Friday afternoon. We walked around the town looking into other spots for a drink, and after half an hour of exploration, we decided to come back to Good Life and wait another 20 minutes until they opened. The little patio in the front is very comfortable and offers a nice view of the street. You can half hide behind the plants while watching cars and tourists go by. Inside, it's comfortable with dark woods, leathers, and a brick fireplace, but not so dark that your eyes strain to read the menu. Bar area is intimate, and seating area by the fire is also cozy. There are bar stools and tall tables toward the back wall where you can sit and read the various labels of wine offered. Service was kind and casual. Not pretentious. I appreciate that very much. Atmosphere inside was nice, but after a while, we decided to go back onto the patio and enjoy the weather. Even though we moved outside and even though there are only two people here running the show, we weren't forgotten. Looking forward to my next stop in Solvang so that I can try another local craft brew and sit on the patio again. read more

This is a nice little wine/beer tasting establishment in Solvang. They are opened until 11pm. Most other places will be closed around 5-7pm. So this is a good alternative for a nightcap. There are a few tables here, but it is on the smaller side. There are also seats on the patio where you can enjoy your drink. read more

One star for the cool local concept, and one star for the fireplace and armchairs if you happen to be caught in the rain like we did. The rude blonde female bartender, however, killed any desire I have of returning. Came in with hubby to get away from the cool rainy day by the fireplace. The bartender was curt in her responses to questions we had about the tasting, or just their products in general. We were the only customers she had at the time, so it's not like she's rushing to serve other people. Against our better judgement, we still decided to do a tasting on account of all the great reviews. While I was making my way to go sit by the fireplace, she stopped me and told me it's not for tasting customers, only those who get a glass or bottle. I mean, I get it. It's a small place so you gotta prioritize seating for higher-paying customers. But the place was literally empty, so this restriction really came out more rude than reasonable. This was my second visit. the first time was quite lovely so when I was visiting Solvang today, my bf and I decided to take our friends to try their beer flight. The barterder who was working today made us feel super uncomfortable. She was super rude and didnt want to serve us. When I was there with my bf and another couple (white and asian), the lady bartender didnt even welcome us, was not friendly at all and walked away from us. The other bartender was okay. I had the freshly kegged hazy from Half moon brewery that was as good and fresh as it gets. My son picked up some great wines for my parents Christmas presents! I enjoyed this bar since it offered both wine and beer tastings. For the beer, we could have 4oz tastings from a list of drafts for $2 each. There is also a selection of wines from a fixed tasting menu. My only complaint is that we weren't allowed to sit at a table unless we were ordering food or glasses of wine or beer. Since there was only 4 chairs at the bar, I had to stand for my whole tasting despite the fact that there were several open tables and couches. I've been here in the past and had a perfectly enjoyable experience, but I passed through town last week and had the misfortune of being served by the owner. I was very underwhelmed by both his wine suggestions and his overall vibe and attitude. If you're in town to drink wine, there are plenty of much better places to go, but if you absolutely MUST drink at this spot, do yourself a favor and call ahead to make sure he isn't working that day. A nice spot to stop in to cool down from the heat, and taste some great craft beers, and wine. Inside is small but very cozy with great atmosphere. There's a small bar along the wall and couches for you to relax in. The service was great, the lady checked in with us several times to make sure we were okay, and made good suggestions on beer. I love love love this place! It's absolutely adorable. We stopped in to take a break from the walking in the heat (it was like 82 degrees and I've become a baby when it comes to heat so I was near death) and the staff was wonderful. I am not a "seasoned" wine drinker so I am pretty clueless on what to order so I asked for help. The lady suggested a moscato (totally forgot the brand) and it was delicious! We came to this place because it was one of two places open past 9pm on a Saturday night in Solvang and it advertised live music. It was pretty packed when we got there and there was barely any place to stand or sit. The music was good and the bartenders were pretty nice. The weird part was how rowdy everyone was getting in there. It was bordering on inappropriate and there was a really weird vibe to the whole place. The bartenders didn't seem to want to stop the rowdiness and just seemed to feel awkward about the whole thing. We quickly grabbed our drinks, drank them and left because of the vibe there. Unlike the Wandering Dog a few blocks up the street, which specializes in international brews, The Good Life features an excellent selection of California micros. The stars of the current lineup are four bottled Eclipse Stout lines from FiftyFifty Brewing in Truckee, each aged in a different type of barrel; I tried the Old Fitzgerald version. Pricey but terrific! If you're planning an early-afternoon visit, it might be prudent to call in advance. Although their nominal weekday opening time is Noon, on the day of my visit they didn't actually open until 2:45. I have no idea how typical this is. First, there's dogs running around. Awesome. Second, good selection of bottles, 6-12 dollar range (What you would pay ANYWHERE for a quality 12 or 22 ounce bottle at a bar. A few higher end bottles. I was pretty let down by the wine tasting selection and it would have been nice to see a tasting menu to follow along & read up on the descriptions. My wife and I had the pleasure of visiting The Good Life on a recent Saturday. We were referred there by friends who had visited when it was under the previous ownership. The new owners, Lisa and Alfred were very warm and accommodating. Specializing in serving Beers and Wines from California, it gives us Californians an appreciation for the wines and beers produced in our state. We went in the late morning and we had no problem getting a seat. There were several other couples who would come in later. Alfred served us a flight of beers from a variety of Southern California breweries. Since he chose the beers, he was very diligent about choosing beers from different breweries that provided a natural progression from light to dark. He made sure to ask us if we had tried a particular brew before. The pricing for tasting is very reasonable, and you get an added discount if you wind up buying a bottle or glass. There's a great ambience to the location especially since it is set in a wine cellar. Alfred and Lisa have loads of personality and want to deliver a first class experience for their patrons.
