I wanted to give this place a good review because it's my home town bakery and I want to support my community. Also, the ice cream cakes are good and the ice cream is decent as well. However the owner is extremely insensitivity and cruel. On several occasions, I've heard him talking down to his workers and if that wasn't bad enough, he was rude to me on several occasions as well. He's very intimidating to speak to about just about anything! I've tried winning him over with logic and kindness, but he's just awful. During my last experience, I asked him to please clean the serving spoon because my daughter is severely allergic to nuts - a practice that the workers typically do before they serve my daughter's ice cream because there are other ice cream flavors that contain nuts. He nearly snapped at me! His response was that he knew what he was doing and he went on and on in front of other customers. I politely waited until all the customers walked away and tried to reason with him. I kindly explained that my daughter is severely allergic to nuts and has to carry an epipen wherever we go. Again, he replied rudely, despite my explanation and patience. He replied that he "wasn't going to kill" my kid. I was taken back! He said all this in front of my child. We both were stunned by his insensitivity and rudeness. Honestly, I wanted to simply leave and cry in my car, but I had to show face in front of my child. I walked to the register, paid for my order, and walked away. Since then, I haven't returned. I don't know who wrote all the recent good reviews - perhaps, the owner's friends and family. I'd scroll down to read all the horrible reviews because they're speaking the truth. The owner is outright careless, nasty, and has no customer skills whatsoever. I truly love the Goodie Shoppe! Everything in the bakery is amazing. I just got the cupcakes for an occasion and they were Fabulous!! They are huge and so impressive everyone wanted to know where I got them from. I cannot thank Mark the owner enough for going above and beyond for me!! We really liked this place. I see someone didn't like the furniture, I liked it. I liked everything about this place. Cookies were great, I wish we had tried the ice cream. If I had anything bad to say it was only because the idiot they had in the corner, not the stuffed monkey :P rhymes with STUMP :P but whatever people are allowed to have different political views so we didn't really care. I like the goodies shop, there are some areas they can improve upon. I have been in the Hospitality business my whole life, That's not to say I know all... The Shop need to provide receipts for purchases. I purchase for clients who need receipts. If that means the owner need to upgrade the register, It's the cost of doing business. The pastries and cakes are very nice and tasty. The decour need attention. The area with the full size sofa and the big stuffed bear is very off putting. Upholstered furniture does not belong in a food establishment. Add some clean looking chairs and table in that area. I have not experienced the $1.00 per box issues but to me that is Nickel & Dime amiture stuff. The box should be included in the price... Keep the place fresh and clean looking it will make a world of difference :) :) read more

I truly wanted this to be a 5-star experience. I was visiting my sister in the area, and so excited to get 'goodies'; bread, pastry, etc. I was able to purchase all, but NOT with a smile. The counter team members were not friendly or helpful. I realized why when the owner / manager came out from the back of the shop. He was chewing and talking to his staff with his mouth full, not appealing and certainly not during these COVID times. And, he was not friendly to his team or the customers. I asked the cashier if I could have a box for my items, she looked at me like I had 3 heads. It's a bakery, they have boxes...I just spent $35 on baked goodies, why not a box?????? The owner / manager said that if I wanted boxes, it would cost me $1 per box. And, he said this in a rude tone of voice. Dude, do you not realize that a smile and kindness go a long way in business? I've been going to the Goodie Shoppe for many years. They make delicious pastries, cakes, cookies and breads (see my pics). There is a place to sit, have coffee and eat your goodies too. Most recently, on 7/27, my wife and I picked up a cookie platter to bring with us to a family members house. Needless to say, the cookies were gobbled up by us adults and the kiddies. I worked at the Goodie Shoppe previously and I have to say as good as the food was, it was the owner that was the issue. His rudeness, unprofessionalism, and thinking he was above everyone else, it's not okay. If a customer ever asked if we had goods that were either peanut free, vegan, or gluten-free, he was always there with a snarky remark that made both the customer and I uncomfortable... not only did he treat me like I was stupid... the place is gross... parts of tile missing... unclean workspaces... dont get me started with the fly problem, they were everywhere, even closed into the food display cases and one time one of the fish in the tank died and I brought it up with the fear of a child seeing it and his response was "whatever just leave it" it wasn't taken out until at least a week later.... overall this place is run by a narcissistic man who believed he was better then anyone else. Really overrated. I'm originally from NYC where the bakeries are top notch. Had moved up here and checked out the Goodie Shoppe quite a few times. Some of their cakes were alright, nothing out of the ordinary though; good for the occasional birthdays and whatnot. But basically this places leaves much to be desired. I went to the Goodie Shoppe after seeing their ad in the local paper and I was really disappointed: The ice cream was old and didn't have a very good taste, the hot chocolate "made from scratch" is actually swiss miss hot coaco and the free cookie offered if you buy the hot coaco is nothing better than a stop and shop cookie that comes in a box with 100 other cookies and costs a dollar. Contrary to the review from the person who was originally from New York City, this is the ONLY bakery around that bakes poppy seed rolls with both the lightness and the crunch of the very best of their class (most likely, from NYC bakeries that were gone before that writer was born). I don't even wanna give this business one star... thats how bad it is. I'm a frequent Peachwave visiter so i decided to check out The Goodie Shop for some Ice Cream. I was with my nana, so we decided to get some Ice Cream. So my nana asked the woman behind the counter if she could try the Chocolate Ice Cream. She tried it and said "Hmm, May I please try another one?" The woman then gave her the dirtiest look and said "Fine", which was really surprising because I would think they want their customers to get the best treatment they can get, in order to sell their products. She tried the Hazelnut Chocolate Mix or something, which tasted like chocolate with little chunks of ice in it. So my nana said "Ok i'll take the Vanilla." Because who could go wrong with a classic vanilla... they can. It seemed like someone had mixed ice cubes into it. It was like eating shaved ice in a vanilla flavor. We went outside to eat out ice cream because the inside was crammed and smelly. My ice cream soon started to melt so I decided to go inside and eat because it was colder in there. The staff must have not seen me walk in, because while i was sitting down eating my Ice Cream, I heard the man who seemed like the owner behind the counter saying "Did you hear that b*tch ordering Ice Cream acting like it was all hers, like try a flavor honey and stick with it." And then started mocking her. I was disgusted so I walked out. What kind of place is this? It should be shut down. Ice Cream was disgusting and old, and staff was the rudest staff I've ever seen. The seeded rye bread is a staple for me. It is sooo good, and everyone that I have spoken to that has had it resoundingly agrees! The bagels are unquestionably a cut WAY above the rest available in the area (and I speak from experience as I've tried them all...). My personal favorite are the poppy seed, and if you were to compare them to others you could honestly say "That's not a poppy seed bagel, THIS is a poppy seed bagel!" ;o) To my taste they're so good that I won't even consider getting one from anywhere else... I'm not much of a sweets eater, so I cannot comment on that... By far the best pizza in the area too! (Supplies limited, so come at noon if you want to get a slice...;o) The owner/baker is a refreshingly down to earth guy, as are the staff and regular customers too, which is unfortunately increasing rare these days, so that makes for a very nice atmosphere as well. read more

One of our guests n Thanksgiving brought a pumpkin pie from the Goodie Shop. It was the most delicious pumpkin pie I've ever eaten! I would show you a picture but it's all gone! The Goodie Shoppe is a wonderful neighborhood alternative to the local Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts. There is casual seating there, and I usually see some of the neighbors sitting and chatting while having coffee and a goodie. Mark has everything from ice cream, to pizza, to cakes, cookies and muffins, as well as coffees and tea. My favorite is the elephant ear pastry which is sweet and light and crispy. I usually scarf one down before I make it home. The black & white cookies are a specialty and live up to their signage which states they are the best you have ever tasted. If I could give this place a negative star rating I would. I have no idea how the food is because after witnessing how the owner treated his staff and how he spoke to me....I left without purchasing anything. I also found the inside dark, dinghy, uninviting and because of the owner....intimidating. Don't dare ask for anything made for people with special dietary needs....you'll get a lecture from the owner and I quote, "they won't know the difference", (they will when they go into anaphylactic shock) and "if you don't like the accommodations, find another hotel". I understand and accept if he does not want to include special dietary need items on his menu....his business, his right to decide but he doesn't have to be a complete jerk about it. I was there to purchase for a number of people, 20! to be exact, ONLY 2 of which had restrictions on what they can safely eat....because of his unprofessional and extremely immature behavior....he lost an incredibly large sale and earned this bad review but my feeling is....he doesn't care. BTW... I'm a brand new visitor to town, I thought it would be nice to have our retreat in what appeared to be a pretty, quaint and above all - friendly town - I won't be making that mistake again - so if New Fairfield has a chamber of commerce you may want to suggest some customer relations classes to your business owners - just sayin'. read more
